Installing Aperture - Before or After Installing PS CS3?

Hi Guys,
I'm about to do a complete reinstall of my system and I was wondering which app to install first:
1) Aperture or
2) Photoshop CS3
Any advantages / disadvantages?
Previously, I had Aperture first, then Photoshop, but then it turned out that Photoshop was setup as the default application for RAW images. (meaning when I double clicked a RAW file on the desktop, it would open PS instead of Aperture) Would that change when I switched the installation order?
What would you recommend?
Thanks,
Tom

Doesn't make a blind bit of difference.
but then it turned out that Photoshop was setup as the default application for RAW images.
Remember, Aperture cannot "Open" images. Aperture is a database and images have to be imported to Aperture before it can see, read or be aware of them. You cannot set Aperture as a Default App to open images.
In any event you can change the default app with the Get Info window in the Finder. Takes a couple of seconds.

  • Install bootcamp before or after installing lion

I'm currently on 10.4.6 (snow leopard) and want to install bootcamp to run windows. I've made a bootable clone with ccc to an external hd. I also want to update to lion. What should i do first:
    a) make the partition in my hd and install bootcamp
    b) install lion and re-ccc my hd to an external hd
    thanks!

If you're going to be installing Windows XP or Vista, you must do so before upgrading to Lion. If not, do it afterwards.

  • How to use Time Machine before and after installing a new hard drive

So basically I'm buying a new hard drive for my Macbook pro and I have a lot of files on my computer that I would like to save. I have never used Time Machine before so I need help on how to set it up before AND after installing the harddrive so my files get transferred onto the new hard drive. Thanks in advance

Me, I would never use Time Machine to do this. What I'd suggest you do is get an exterior enclosure for your new drive. Then use either Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper to clone your existing drive to your new drive. Once done, verify your clone is bootable & all of your data present. Then swap drives & use your old drive for Time Machine backups(after erasing it). Then get another drive & exterior enclosure to regularly clone your new drive to.
Unless he was swapping for a lower capacity HDD or to a lower capacity SSD, then the old drive would make a lousy Time Machine disk.  However, whenever I swap out a disk I do exactly what you do.  CCC to get the ol drive onto a new one.  Test by starting up to the new (but still external drive).  Then replace the internal drive.
I usually just sell the old drive on eBay.  My Time Machine backup is always 2X the size of the internal drive, which I believe is a bit above recommendations, but works for me.  The price of large external drives is almost the same as smaller internal ones.

I would get Pages, if it is word processing AW documents, and try to open them without changing the system back to Snow Leopard. You could have Snow Leopar d on an externalhard drive if you really need to have Rosetta and AW.

    I'm running Windows 7 Professional (64 bit)

  • Install trackpad before or after Lion?

I am running 10.6.8 on my old MacBook.  I know that Lion will run okay on the MacBook (checked specs).  I just bought a Magic Trackpad so Lion gestures will work on the MacBook.  Should I install the Magic Trackpad before or after I install Lion or doesn't it matter?  For the record I tried search but I am still confused.

Thank you so much for the kind remark.
Given the stock market I wish I could convert some of that capital into capital.

  • Upgrade to  Snow Leopard before or after install new Office 2011 for Business?

I'm about to upgrade from Leopard to snow leopard. I also am going to upgrade to Microsoft Office 2011 for Business and then download the Tiger OS.
Should I install Office 2011 first (currently use 2004 Office) BEFORE I install Snow Leopard, or after?

As long as you have the 10.6 DVD, you are all set. It probably contains 10.6.3, and you will then have to use Software Update to get to 10.6.8. You can do that with Word updated or not.
Upgrading to 10.7 will add a Lion Recovery partition to your Hard drive. When you are ready to do that, you may want to run Disk Utility Verify first.
All these cats make my head spin, so I just use the numbers.
If you are concerned about losing something, shouldn't you have a backup? Add word to your backup and don't worry about losing anything.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this test is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account. Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The "Guest User" login created by "Find My Mac" is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.

  • Re-install Aperture 1.5 without install disk

Yes, and stupid, I seem to have lost (sight of) my original installation disk of Aperture 1.5 after moving to my new home last December. I do have my license key, my proof of purchase and a working app on my G5.
Today, my MBP however crashed, and during repairs the repair tool (techtoolpro) crashed as well, leaving the MBP to be re-installed completely.
Does anybody know if the trial download version of Aperture 1.5 is still available somewhere? It would just work fine with my serial number.
I do not know how to copy the working Aperture from my G5 to my MBP, that would be a possibility too. No idea which files need to be copied. (I have my libraries sitting on external drives, so there is no problem.)
    Any suggestions, anyone?
    Thanks, Marius

Thank you William, but I went there already and got myself the 156 update.
So I must assume that this Note is the official answer to my question:
"Important Note: Aperture updates available via Software Update or this download page can be used only to update full versions of Aperture. They cannot be used to update Aperture trial software, which has now been updated to Aperture 2.1."
Indeed, the 156 update first looks for a 1.x Aperture.

    Hi Shailesh / Graciela,
To use a language in SAP, you must first import the language in the system using transaction SMLT.

  • Install Yosemite before or after HDD Upgrade

My MBP (Model A1229) is the earliest that will run Yosemite. I had Yosemite running but found my overall Internet experience just too slow. Even after downgrading to Mavericks I wasn't content with the snap of my machine. On further notice, I found everything was dog slow, finder, opening apps, etc. I did all the optimizing at my disposal, primarily repairing permissions, hard drive repair and running Disk Warrior, but even so things are just sluggish. I found my Install Disks and ran AHT and had a few errors, among them was one for the hard drive. This is the original hard drive that came with this machine so must be getting real tire. I've noticed the hard drive is constantly 'ratcheting', sometimes for minutes - wondering if this is a sign of an ailing hard drive.
So, I intend to replace the drive which I have on constant Time Machine back up and wonder now if I should drop Yosemite on before I upgrade the drive, or wait and install fresh on the new drive?
Would it make any difference? Any thoughts?

The things that I would suggest that might work is to make sure that you have the updated version of Yosemite. When this was posted you said you have OS X Yosemite 10.10.... The version I have is 10.10.2 so there might be an update. Also you could call apple at 1-800MYAPPLE if you have purchased the applecare protection plan. Also you might wanna take it into the apple store near you.
    Hope this helps!

  • Re: hp 5510 won't print black before and after installing new cartridge. have done specified checks

I've followed all of the instructions and still no luck...what's worse is that I can't seem able to PM you for help.  Please get back in touch with me as I would like some sort of remedy.

    Hello Redwing1991,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I see you are running into some print quality issues on your HP Photosmart 5510, you are unable to print in black ink.
I see you have tried ALL steps listed here: Printer Does Not Print Black Ink or Color Ink, or Prints Blank Pages, with no success.
Please note: There are three printhead cleaning stages. Complete all three stages if necessary. If the printhead is badly clogged, it might require another cleaning cycle. If so, wait 30 minutes after the last (third) cleaning stage to start the first stage of the cleaning process over again.
I suspect the issue may be the printer and not the cartridge. Please let me know which Country/Region you are in as well as the product Warranty status: HP Warranty Checker
I hope to hear from you soon.
    Thanks,
    HevnLgh

  • Re-installing 10.3.9 after installing Tiger

Hello, I have a problem with an OS X 10.3.x re-install. Let me explain what I have done. My Cube was running fine on OS X 10.3.9, networked with an old Mac OS 8.5 that we need for certain OS Classic tasks, which I also ran on my Cube. I believed I needed to upgrade to OS X Tiger 10.4, so I installed that (turns out I didn't). After that I got a dialog that the 8.5 was not recognizable on the network. Plus, the printer which is essential for Classic apps, an HP Deskjet 1220C, was no longer recognizable or useable.
This setup is absolutely essential for our office function, so I decided to re-install OS X 10.3.x over Tiger. That may be where my problem lies. I ran an Archive and Install, which put the new Tiger into a folder titled "Previous System."
The re-install was successful enough that the old 8.5 and the Deskjet were networked again, but my newer printer, HP Officejet 6210 All-in-One was not recognized. When I tried to access the System Preferences, and the Printer Setup Utility, neither would open, or would open and immediately close again. I proceeded with "Software Updates" which updated my OS X to 10.3.9, as before. I uninstalled the HP 6210 and re-installed it. Still nothing.
So I downloaded Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption, and did everything according to instructions except cache cleaning (verified and repaired disk, verified and repaired disk permissions). Now I can open my System Preferences, but still not the Printer Setup Utility or System Profiler--they try to open but crash.
I have not been working on anything else for several days. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
    Nancy

djcarpediem, Sorry I've been AWOL for awhile. I considered erasing everything and re-installing Panther (10.3.9) from scratch, but then got concerned about my former OS 9 installation: Would that work after just dragging a saved copy over onto the hard drive? I doubt it. The only thing I've lost is the newer printer (to my knowledge). So I decided to keep my system the way it is. It is now a re-installed 10.3.9 over the Tiger. My System Profiler still don't work, nor does the printer setup utility, but everything else is still working.
I agree, Apple should provide an OS Uninstall, to step back to previous OS. Tiger and Panther are quite compatible, obviously, since I have not lost any files or functionality except for the printer setup. You are lucky your System prefs came back after Disk Utility Repair, mine didn't. I'll let you know if I lose anything else, but for now I'm keeping everything as is, with fingers crossed.

  • Can't install or uninstall apps after installing N...

I downloaded Nokia Maps via the Nokia website this morning, and tried to install it on my E71-1. On my PC, it said 'continue installation on phone' or something to that effect, so I looked at my phone to see 'File corrupted'. I figured it may have just been a dodgy installation, so I tried again. The same thing happened.
I have since tried to remove it from my phone, but receive a message saying 'Removing failed'. I kind of thought nothing of it, and figured I'd try again later, or I'd find a solution. I left it alone, and tried to uninstall a theme I have. I once again got the 'Removing failed' message. I have since tried to install apps but I get 'File corrupted', or whilst trying to uninstall anything, I get 'Removing failed'.
I have to assume that it has something to do with the Nokia Maps installation, but of course I'm not 100% sure. I'm still stuck back in firmware version 100.07.76, as I got this phone from a friend a few months ago, and she had no idea about phones so never updated it. I'm waiting on a usb cable, and I believe I am unable to update the firmware without one.
Anyway, I would really love to be able to use my phone properly again! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I'm sorry, I actually did a hard reset, I'm not sure why I wrote soft reset!
A soft reset will basically just restore the phone to it's factory settings. You shouldn't lose any data when you do this, but you should definitely still back up your phone first.
    To do a ‘soft reset’
    Switch on the phone
When the phone on the standby mode enter the code *#7780#
The security code should be 12345 unless you have changed it.
The factory settings would be restored and there will (hopefully) be no data loss.
Now this is what I did...
A hard reset will definitely delete everything off your phone. After you've done a hard reset and turned your phone back on, it will be just like it was the day you bought it. Please make sure you backup your phone (contacts, photos, music, everything!) before doing a hard reset.
    Switch on the phone
While the phone is the standby mode enter this code *#7370#
The phone would ask for a password, the default password is 12345 unless you have changed it before
From memory, the phone will restart itself, or you may have to turn it back on... but that's it. You're done.
    Hope this helped Thylacine
