Installing Apex_3.2 with 10g
I need to use my Windows-XP laptop to test some APEX_3.2 applications that use Application-Server 10g. I am having trouble getting the single-user installation to work. I am using HTTP-Server, and it seems to work, using my domain name of raven.mydomain.com. I am able to logon and use Enterprise Manager at http://raven.mydomain.com:1158/em.
When I try to logon to APEX at http://raven.mydomain.com:7777/pls/apex, however, I see the login screen and it accepts my workspace, username and password, but when I click the logon-button, nothing at all happens. There is no error message of any kind. The logon-button gives the appearance of being depressed, but there is no other change in the page display. It is as if the logon-button is not connected to an application.
Clicking the reset-password and find-my-workspace links do result in new pages. But the logon-button and theproduct-page link seem disconnected.
Please suggest anything I should try, or diagnostics I could run.
Thanks!
I notice that _homeASControl appears in my Windows-XP Services list, but it will not be started. An error occurs when I try to start it. Do I need this service?

Installing Discoverer with Database Version Oracle 10g Express Edition
Hello,
Is it possilbe to install Discoverer with database version Oracle 10g Express Edition? I have Oracle Fusion Middleware 11.1.1.1.0 on my Windows XP machine as well. If so, can someone please provide me a link to the Discoverer download.
Regards,
KellyNote that the Personal Edition of the database is 'the most powerful' version, in that it contains all features and options of the Enterprise Edition (expect RAC and Enterprise Manager packs)
As such, the Personal Edition, at a mere USD$400-500 is one of the most cost effective for-fee products that Oracle has in it's inventory. It is targeted at the developer. And it comes with the complete set of Sample Data, whereas XE has a very limited subset (since it does not support all functionality).
Express Edition is indeed free, but it is not supported, and can not be patched. OTOH it does have a lighter footprint.
Again, I am not sure whether Disco 11g is compatible with Express Edition. (It's on my schedule for December ...) -
Suggestions b4 installing 11g on Servr 2003 with 10g already
Hi,
Are there any pitfalls I need to be aware of before installing 11gR2 onto Windows Server 2003 with 10g (10.2.0.5.0) already installed? I've searched the forum and found threads on multiple installations in Linux, Solaris and AIX, but not on on Windows Server.
The databases will not be run simultaneously. I've looked at the documentation in the 11g Administrator's Guide on Managing Multiple Database Instances on a Single Server. This is not what I'm trying to do. Caging and allocating resources is not going to be an issue. I intend to turn the Oracle Services for 10g to Manual and stop them. Install 11.2 into it's own Oracle Home. This is on a test server.
I have a program called Windchill that uses Oracle. I have an existing test environment version of Windchill running 10g.
I want to test the latest release and version of Windchill, this requires 11g. I will not be running both at the same time, one or the other. I will start the Ora services for the version that I need depending the version of Windchill that I intend to start.
Are there any issues or configuration notes that I should be aware of before installing 11gR2 Enterprise Edition on my test server or the 11gR2 Client on the Windchill test server? I intend to configure both on the same ports for the TNS listener and on the Windchill server the Tomcat and Apache will be configured to use default ports; so both cannot be running simultaneously.
Both servers are running:
Windows Server 2003 R2
Standard x64 Edition, SP2

duvelkeWell, from our .rsp files for Database Client installs:

oracle.winprod:DEPENDENCY_LIST={"oracle.odbc:10.2.0.1.0"}
# ODBC
#oracle.winprod:DEPENDENCY_LIST={"oracle.odbc:10.2.0.1.0"}

# ODP.NET för .NET v1
#oracle.winprod:DEPENDENCY_LIST={"oracle.ntoledb.odp_net:10.2.0.1.0"}
If you need ODP for .NET v2, you should complement the Oracle Home with install from ODAC 10.2.0.2.x (what a mess, isn't it). -

Thank youI had this problem and resolved it by transporting the file to the installation server with the correct ftp datatype (binary).
On page 54 of the install guide (..Server\Oracle_Business_Intelligence\doc\doc\bi.1013\b31765.pdf) that comes with the installation files, there is an instruction to make sure that any ftp activity is done in binary.
This may not have occured with the license.xml file if you use a tool which offers the "feature" of automatic datatype recognition.
Hope this helps. -

Can't succesfully install Oracle Database 10g Express Edition on Ubuntu
Hi,
I've been trying to install Oracle Database 10g xe on Ubuntu 10.04 and when I execute the .deb package (oracle-xe-universal_10.2.0.1-1.0_i386.deb) I get a quick installation that doesn't ask me for any configuration settings. When the installation is finished I don't get any menu in my Applications menu named "Oracle Database 10g Express Edition" as specified in Getting Started Guide (I only get some items grouped into an category called "Other" (Backup Database, Get Started, Get Started With Oracle Database 10g Express Edition, Go To Online Forum, Read Documentation, Read Online Help, Register For Online Forum, Restore Database, Run SQL Command Line, Start Database and Stop Database). As a consequence I can't access the Oracle Database Home Page.
In addition when I click on Start Database I get the following message: "Operation failed. josep is not member of 'dba' group".
I've tried to re-download the packages and to configure it by editing /etc/init.d/oracle-xe but this doesn't solve my problem.
can you give me some help?

Install Oracle Forms 10g R2 in Windows 7
Hi,
does anyone has ever succeeded to install Oracle Form 10g R2 in Windows 7 Home Premium?
How to overcome the Jinit issue in there? Friend of mine suggested we can download the Jinit for Vista version and replace the current Jinit with it.
Do I need to change anything too in Formsweb.cfg? Windows 7 works with IE 8.
Is the Forms can work with Oracle 11g R1 client 64 bit for Windows?
thanks in advance.Why bother with JInit? It's long desupported. Just replace it with the latest Java Plugin, and you'll be fine.

Page Space usage in Windows XP64 with 10g PE 32-bit
Hi.
We have three workstations installed with 12GB of RAM and XP64.
Due to issues porting the database from the user's XP32 bit machines into oracle 64-bit,
I instead installed Oracle 10g 32-bit, and just copied over the %ORACLE_HOME\oradata\orcl directories.
Since the time that I installed these machine, I have learned how to port the database to 64-bit correctly.
However, I've noticed that the systems slow down a great deal when loading data into tables.
I've traced this to Paging file activity - which is odd because there is 6GB completely unused on these
machines, and I don't understand why it is paging. The size of the paging is fairly small, under 100MB,
but the machine slows to a crawl when it starts paging, not just for Oracle but for all applications.
Does anyone know if this is 'normal' behavior? Would switching to Oracle 64-bit fix this problem?
What about disabling the pagefile? SGA memory settings? The systems are configured to use a
SGA of 3.2 GB. Is this wrong?avramits wrote:
Windows will be always using Page file. But i do not think paging is a problem. Running 32 bit emulation in 64 bit environment is a problem. Why won't you upgrade your database to 64 bit and enjoy. It will take no time to do that.
install 64 bit oracle software, Recreate service, copy database dirrectory, then startup upgrade, run utlirp, shutdown then startup normal and run utlrp. Done. All together will takes less then 10 min to complete (64 bit software could be installed upfront).Oracle 10g 32-bit was causing significant paging even though less than 6GB out of 12GB system RAM was used.
I read the instructions for upgrading a 32-bit database to 64-bit, but it didn't work correctly on this database.
The database contained a good deal of JAVA and other code, and utlrp crashed every time I ran it, to upgrade a 32-bit database to 64-bit.
I found other advice on the network on how to upgrade the 32-bit database completely to 64-bit, but I could never get it completely error-free.
However, after I actually learned what the tables in the database were for, I came up with a script which exported/imported only the non-system data, and then re-installed all of the 'code' tables separately, which results in a fully-working 64-bit database.
Initially there was a very short 'porting' window for moving the data from the old 32-bit machine to the 64-bit PC, so I went with the easier solution of just copying the oradata directory and using 32-bit Oracle 10g. Now I have essentially the entire weekend to
upgrade the PC from Oracle 32-bit to Oracle 64-bit, which is plenty of time. -

From Venu(INDIA)Was the oracle-xe configure completed successfully?
Are the pmon and listener processes running ... set your environment and connect via sqlplus if so. If no processes, the instance needs a startup.
$ ps -ef |egrep pmon
oracle ... ora_pmon_XE
$ ps -ef |egrep lsnr # can also check the listener status, see below
oracle ... /usr/.../tnslsnr ...
$ lsnrctl status
Endpoints Summary ...
(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=<your hostname>)(PORT=1521)))
(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=http) ... (PORT=8080)))
...In the ORACLE_HOME/bin directory there is a shell script you can source to set up your environment variables for connecting to the database. The full path to the .sh should be revealed by the tnslsnr process, /usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/bin/oracle_env.sh
$ /usr/.../oracle_env.sh
$ sqlplus /nolog
SQL> connect system
Password: ...
Connected.
SQL> select status from v$instance;
STATUS
OPENThe oracle user created by the configure won't have a known password set. Set it and switch user to the oracle login. If you don't want to muck about with the oracle user, at least add your user to the dba group so that you can connect with the sysdba privilege when needed.

11g database compatible with 10g ASM?
Hi all,
I have one server with Oracle 10g database and ASM installed. Now I need to install a new database on 11g version. Know you if my new 11g database can use the 10g ASM? Or I need to create a new ASM in 11g too?
Thanks in advance,
JordiPLease look at the following link. The 11g Database is indeed going to work with 10g asm but the features available will vary depending on the version compatibility.

Can I use Oracle 11g Developer tools with 10G and XE
Hi, I want to use Oracle 11g ODAC 11.1.0.6.21 with Oracle Developer Tools for Visual Studio with 10g and Xe . Will there be any issues. I want to do so because I am not able to see Oracle Database project in Visual Studio when I install Oracle 10 g developer tools wherein I see that in Oracle 11g developer tools. Please suggest.
No there are no issues. Just be sure to install ODT in a separate location than where XE is installed.
