Installing ATA Zip drive in G3B+W w/Rev MB

I have already fresh loaded Tiger.4 on my G3B+W. Wanted an ATA Zip drive, but added it later. The OS will not mount it. THis Zip came out of a used PC. Got the DVD/Zip set to Master/Slave. Any advice without reloading Tiger? Do not really want to do it. Please reply to [email protected] with the subject - G3B+W Apple Help. Thank you.

  • Error message after installing external zip drive

After installing a replacement zip drive (and accompanying software from CD), I'm confronted with a periodic error message advising that hardware has not been closed properly disk ejected prior to removal? I'm not removing anything--the zip disk is remaining in the external drive. I've turned off all power, rebooted and reinserted USB connections and the error message keeps coming up periodically. Iomega web site isn't much help. An suggestions, please. Thanks.

Thanks for your quick reply!  I was wondering if anyone would reply!
I made the copies on a suggetion that the original may be scratched or something so I figured what the heck?  I did format the hard drive though.  It is a Seagate 500gb hard drive.  I only formatted the whole drive and figured that the restore disks would make the additional partition.
Aside from that, it's the same error message that I had on the original drive.  The original drive and OS works (Vista), but I wanted to restore it because I just wanted to wipe everything and start clean.  What can be causing the error message, and what IS the error message?
Anymore suggestions or help would be great as I am in desperate need of getting my computer back to working.
    Thanks again for replying!

  • Internet Explorer has stopped working on home computer - is it possible to download firefox & then burn to zip drive & install from there?

I cannot get to the internet because MS Internet Explorer has stopped working & I would like to use firefox anyway. Is there a way to install from zip drive? I am using Windows 7

The Firefox download is the complete installer, and yes, you can run it from external storage such as CD, ZIP, or USB flash drive. https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/fx/#desktop

  • Can i install system 7 on a zip drive?

    Hi
I own a Mac plus and i'd like to connect it to the internet. I had a look at a few web browsers, like MacWWW "Samba" but it isn't great. I'd like to try out MacWeb, but it requires system 7. It appears I need to install system 7 on a hard disk to do so. Problem is, I don't have any SCSI hard disk... and they are quite expensive on ebay. So I was wondering, is it possible to install it on a zip drive? They are quite inexpensive and I already have zip disks at home.
I've never hooked one up to a "classic" Mac, so I hope the os recognises it as a drive and not as a floppy. If not, I'm afraid this won't work...
    Thanks,
    Bad Gold Eagle
PS: My Mac has 1Mb of RAM, I've got a copy of 7.1. Is 1Mb enough for the early version of MacWeb (1.1.1E)?

    Hello,
A Zip drive can be connected to a Macintosh Plus. The following web page has further information about this:
    http://www.vintagemacworld.com/pluszip.html
System 7 requires at least 2 MB of RAM. In order to connect a 68000 processor machine to the Internet, you should really have the maximum amount of RAM, though (in this case 4 MB).
An older Internet FAQ could possibly be of interest to you:
    http://www.knubbelmac.de/spiegel/mac-internet-faq-2002-12.html
You may also need access to another appropriate approx. 1991-1997 Macintosh computer (with a floppy drive for both 800K and 1.44 MB) to be used as an intermediary for software downloads.
System 7.1 came on 1.44 MB floppy disks, which cannot be used directly on a Macintosh Plus. A full US System 7.0 on 800K floppy disk images contained in a larger self-mounting image (.smi) is available for download from Apple:

  • Cant install xp on S-ATA single drive.

Hey I am building a new machine with a single s-ata hard drive and 3 other ide roms. I am using a 865pe neo2 board. The board has no promise chip so there is only two s-ata conectors. I am using a WD Caviar 80gig with 8mb buffer. I left the jumper on master and pluged it into the s-ata1 port. I have read many s-ata questions on the forum and have tried to change the settings on the bios from legacy to native and also messed with the DDR voltage. I can recognize the hard disk in the bios and it posts succesful. I have the bios set to native, S-ata only, enabled p-ata, both, S-ata first. I can start the install of windows XP pro with service pack1 and it will format and install files but when the system reboots and the xp loggo comes it loads and then goes to a blue screen with a hard disk config error. Please help!

    Pentium 4 533/512k 2.8gighz
WD Caviar S-ATA 80gig 8mb buffer and sure connect cable
    512 DDR 333
    Asus 52x rom
    Creative DVD Rom
    Yamaha Burner
    Radeon Pro 9000 128mb

:bonk:Ok I changed the overclocking to disabled and then I reinstalled xp. The setup rebooted and went to the windows logo and when the logo screen droped I got a blue error screen asking me to check my Hard disk config. I read the S-ata link and I dont have a cell phone or any  radios in my computer room. I have not tied any cables together and I have used a special sure connect cable made by WD for there Caviar S-ata drives. I have built 2 other systems with raid s-ata 0 configs, but they were both asus boards. I just dont think I understand the MSI board. I really like it and I have thought about changing my computers to MSI boards but I need to get this one working before I would do that. If you have any other ideas I would greatly apreciate it. I dont really understand the shadow cache option or the system cache. Do you think it could have something to do with those?

  • Installing 500Gig ata hard drive

Hi,I'm going to install a 500gig ata hard drive to go along with my 250gig ata drive. The 250gig is on a 133 controller card that will support 4 drives. My question is:do i format the drive first or can i just clone the 250 to 500 with super duper.

    Hi-
Hard drives add a bit of heat to the interior of the tower, so a PCI slot fan would probably be a wise investment.
Although the PSU would probably be OK, the other upgrades may not appreciate additional heat without additional cooling.
Getting some of the heat out before it all goes through the PSU will help keep the power production steady.
Removing some of the heat from the Radeon and the CPU upgrade with the help of PCI slot fan won't hurt either.
A PCI cooler has minimal amperage requirements, so it should not overburden the power supply.
As compared to earlier drives, late model drives do run cooler.
WD drives are some of the coolest running drives.
One might consider getting some external drives, though. Two internal drives should be plenty for OS, applications and scratch.
Putting files, music, photos, etc. on an external FW drive won't affect performance adversely, and will reduce the heat and power loading of the tower.
Make sure you have an external backup drive that can backup all of your "working" drives.
Another benefit of an external drive housing, is that you can use a SATA drive, up to 2TB capacity now, and connect by FW. This way, you get the benefits of SATA capacity, and don't have to buy a controller card.

  • Installed Lion OS 10.7.2 and now Zip Drive 100 will not open

Using iMac Intel in only Apple mode. Zip Drive 100 connected to USB
Thank you for your replies to my Zip Drive question. I too cannot understand what happened. Up until I upgraded to Lion OS 10.7.2, I was able to use  my 100 Zip Drive. Now it will not open any of these Zip disks. The Zip takes the disk, green light goes on but it never registers on the desktop nor opens up

Up until I upgraded to Lion OS 10.7.2, I was able to use  my 100 Zip Drive.
But what were you running before you upgraded? I'd say your problem is that you don't have any Zip Drivers that are compatible with Mac OS X 10.7. If they even exist, you'd find them on the Iomega site. But the last ones they have are for 10.3 and 10.4, so that doesn't bode well for any support.
If I were you, I'd post a question in the Iomega Support forums about this problem and whether or not (and how) you can get your Zip drive to work on 10.7.

  • Zip drive in MDD

Now I'm trying to make use of some parts of my newly abandoned G3 B&W. One thing that's in there is a Zip drive (100MB). Is it possible to install this in my "new" G4 MDD 1.25GHz? There is a SuperDrive in there already.
    Thanks.

The zip drive is recognized but not the super drive.
That sounds like the jumper issue I mentioned to the original poster. The ATA bus that serves the optical drive(s) requires little jumpers on the back of each drive be moved about to set priorities on that cable. You cannot have two masters or two slaves, only one master one slave. Unless it's been altered, your optical drive should already be set to "master."
This Iomega install document (a small pdf) shows how to set the jumpers on the back of the ZIP:
    http://download.iomega.com/english/manuals/english/en325401.pdf
    It's on page 5.
Typical cabling suggests that the master device be at the end and the slve device use the mid-cable connector.

  • CLASSIC will not recognize my zip drive

classic will not recognize my zip drive...i have one program that roland will not update and it only runs in os9...so the program opens but will not let me select the zip drive as a option...please advise if classic can detect zip drives etc...thanks soo much...
oh and the driver for os9 is installed etc as well...

1 is the Zip drive a SCSI, a ATA, or a USB Zip? Or are you talking about a flash memory drive?
2 if you're not talking flash memory, do you have a disk inserted into the drive, and is it formatted HFS or FAT?
3 if you are talking flash memory, is the flash drive formatted HFS or FAT?
4 can you get to the desktop in whichever application this is?
5 which application is it that you're trying to use?

  • Mac won't recognize CD and Zip Drive

  • Internal Zip Drive and Internal DVD Burner Question:

Where can I find an internal Zip drive for my b&w g3 desktop?
Or should I just get an external USB or 1394 Zip drive?
+(I have a 20gb hard drive that doesn't have its computer anymore and I connected it to a Gateway 2000 and the hard drive has Windows 98 SE with lots of files...jpegs for example...and I am going to get the files off of the hard drive before I erase it and put it on another desktop. The only way I can get it off is with a Zip drive. The USBs wouldn't work).+
Besides that one reason, I was going to get an internal Zip Drive for my Apple desktop anyways.
I have a DVD Rom in the apple desktop. I also want to upgrade it to a DVD Burner / DVD+R/RW or whatever it is called. Is that possible?
    Message was edited by: In-Correct

I have a B&W G3/400 purchased in '96 which I've upgraded with the PowerLogix 1.1 GHz Zif Upgrade. When Apple introduced OSX I also installed and ATA hard drive, and a few years ago I replaced the original Apple CD ROM with a Pioneer DV D-RW DVR-111D (which surprisingly burns DVD's faster than my new iMac 2.8GHz Intel Core2 Duo). The Pioneer DVD burner works like a charm. There were no issues at all when it came to the instyallation: rebooting, reading installation CD's or what have you. It was true, PLUG & PLAY.
    The G3 is currently running:
    1) OSX 10.4.11, on an ATA drive (Maxtor 6L100PO; 93.37GB) &
    2) MAC OS 9.2.2 on the original equipment 9GB SCSI Drive
The G3 cannot take advantage of the ZIF processor upgrade in OSX 10.4.11, and I am in the process of downgrading OSX to 10.4.9 so that I can take advantage of the faster processor. According to PowerLogix the ZIF upgrade is not compatible with a later version of OSX after 10.4.9 as they have been unable to keep up with the changes Apple has been making in the OS.
    I hope this helps.

  • 250MB ATAPI Zip drive

I have a 250 MB ATAPI Zip drive, is it possible to connect it to my iBook G4 or PowerBook via USB adapter?
I've a generic IDE/SATA to USB 2 adapter but when I connect it to my IBook nothing happens.
Thanks a lot for any info or suggestion

You're right it's a bare ATAPI zip drive. As a I said it's a generic IDE/SATA adapter so it doesn't say anything on the manual or box but I found this on Apple System Profiler under USB Hi-Speed Bus:
    USB to ATA/ATAPI bridge:
      Version:          1.00
      Bus Power (mA):          500
      Speed:          Up to 480 Mb/sec
      Manufacturer:          JMicron
      Product ID:          0x2338
      Serial Number:          EE22D6D52722
      Vendor ID:          0x152d
I've searching for JMicron 2338 but haven't found the tech specs
Maybe I need to install iomegaware to install a driver?
    Thanks for all your help

  • Need help installing Intel Lan Driver on a Satellite A100-011

I have bought Toshiba Satellite A100-011 notebook with Windows Vista. Now I downgraded the os to Windows XP. The problem is how to install Intel Lan Driver. I would really appreciate any help, because there is no .exe file and I have no idea, what to do with those files.

    Hi buddy,
the files which are in the zip file are really the drivers but you have to install them manually which means you must go to the device manager, search for the LAN device which probably should have a exclamation mark and then right-click on it. After clicking a wizard should appear which leads you trough the installation process. When the wizard asks for drivers (if not already automatically found) then point on the folder where the driver files are located.
Then everything should be fine. :)
    Greetings

  • Problem with S-ATA optical drive(MSI 875P Neo)

    Ahoy MSIers,
I am in a most dire situation, and before I go to spend money on some computer-tech guy to solve my problem, I thought maybe you could help me.
    *My PC specs:
    Intel Pentium 4 Northwood C 2800Mhz
    MSI 875P Neo
    A-DATA 512Mb RAM DDR 400 * 2(1024)
    PowerColor Radeon 9800Pro
Western Digital Hard Drive 80Gb 8Mb buffer P-ATA
Pioneer DVR-212D S-ATA (The main issue here)
    Bios - AMIBIOS - VERSION 3.31a
    Windows XP Pro - SP2
Until 2 days ago I owned an MSI CD(P-ATA) burner which was virtually dead.
2 days ago, It died completely, So I decided that I will not just replace a CD burner for a CD burner... no! I will buy myself a new shiny DVD burner!
So I bought myself a Pioneer DVR-212D(S-ATA) and I went on with installing it.
I plugged the Serial Power Cable from the PSU to the drive, and connected the drive and the S-ATA port on my M-Board with a serial-ata cable.
I booted up, and found that the device was nowhere to be found although power is being transferred to it(the drive opens and closes when pressing it's eject button).
I searched the net and found that I was supposed to "enable" S-ATA in my BIOS.
Tried that, yet every setting I tried besides the default setting gives makes the computer freeze for a few minutes at the MSI logo and then a "friendly" error massage appears, usually it's something like
"4th master drive ATAPI incompatible" ( the number changes, I haven't got a clue why).
Searched the net a bit more and found almost nothing... most s-ata "problems" were about booting from a s-ata hard drive....
I am getting desperate, So in order to maximize the chances of me getting help solving this issue, I took a few pictures of the BIOS and the inside of my case... maybe it will help, I dunno.
    Here are some pics:
The S-ATA cable connected to the Mother-Board
Back of the DVD burner with the S-ATA cable attached
    BIOS - standard CMOS features
    BIOS - Integrated Peripherals
    On-Chip IDE configuration
    P.S
I have a DVD ROM(Toshiba, nothing special) and I would of course occasionally like to burn Dvds/Cd's from my DVD ROM to my DVD burner. However, seeing as the DVD burner is S-ATA, there is no physical connection what so ever between the two drives(unlike in P-ATA connection where each cable has 3 "connections", 2 for drives(hard or optical) and one for the Motherboard) I really don't know how I can "achieve" this.

A friend of my father's, whose occupation is a computer technician toke a look at the PC and bios settings today.
WE tried EVERYTHING and It still wouldn't work so we concluded that the problem is probably in the hardware.
There were two possible "suspects" here - The Mother Board(specificially the S-ATA controller/ports on it) or the drive itself.
We connected the drive to my sister's computer and it worked like a charm.
So the answer was clear - something was wrong with the board.
I replaced my S-ATA drive for an IDE drive, and all is well.
    Well
that's the end of that story

  • How do i install sata hard drive?

ok, i am using right now my sony dvdrw on ide1 as master and ata hard drive on ide2 as master, booting to the hard drive. i am going to install an sata hard drive and use that as the boot drive, the normal ata as a storage drive only. how will i install the sata drive? do i install it to sata 1 and then durring the install of windows xp tell it to hit f6 for third party scsi drivers and then use the intel sata floppy driver disk that came with my board? it's the MSI-6728 board. or is there anything special i need to do in the bios or what?
oh yeah. what connection for power should i use? my powersupply has sata and normal, so should i use the sata power connector? and then what's this about legacy or something in the bios, or am i wrong?

Well first of all, you dont install the Intel S-ATA Driver Disc unless you are going to create a RAID Array....Go into the BIOS and on the "On-Chip IDE Configuration" Page Set the Options like this.........
On-Chip ATA Operate Mode : Legacy
    ATA Configuration : P-ATA+S-ATA
Keep S-ATA Enabled : (Greyed Out Yes)
Keep P-ATA Enabled : (Greyed Out Yes)
    P-ATA Channel Selection : Both
Combined Mode Operation (At first you have to set this to P-ATA Channel 1, then switch after you Move Windows to S-ATA)
Configure S-ATA As RAID : No
Then you are Going to have to Install the OS on The SATA and Just Move the Files that you want to save from the P-ATA HDD and then Remove the P-ATA Drive from the "Boot Device" List in the BIOS....
You really should List Your Full System Specs. When you POST...Create a "Signature" with your Forum User Control Panel...........Sean REILLY875
