Installing backup CD's from Power PC G5 to new Intel 24" - how?
My 2004 G5 iMac died as in HD was "fried" when power supply went. All I have are my Home Folder back up discs from Nov 2008.
I tried installing the 1st of 7 CDs and clicked it opened. I was doing this while on the phone with Apple Care and told them what was showing. The AC guy said he didnt't know what it meant and needed to get someone that understands backups so I waited about 8 min and then I was transfered and she just didn't understand the issue and didn't know what the items were and told me to go to Mobile ME and go to iChat and they would know because it is backup. Mobile Me said to call back to Apple Care. AppleCare is closed for the night so I thought I would try posting here for any help.
I would love to get my old documents off this backup, but more than anything I would like my photos. I have my iTunes on my iPod so I am not greatly concerned there.
Any help would be so very appreciated.

You didn't say what the error or message is?
To transfer your photo files from the CD(s) to new iMac's iPhoto. Insert the disk and open iPhoto, then with iPhoto on the menu bar select File > Import to Library. Now navigate to the Picture folder or Picture files depending on how they were saved on the CD(s) highlight them and select Import.
To transfer your doc's and other files to your new iMac's User's folder, first open Finder > User Folder and move the finder window to fill half the display. Now double click and open the CD, it should open in a new finder window that you can move to the other half of your display. Now from there you should be able to drag (copy) files and folders from the CD's finder window to the corresponding files of new iMac's User's Folder.

HT1766 I cannot backup my apps from my iphone4 to my new comp
I cannot backup my apps from my iphone4 to my new comp (which doesnt have any apps in the itunes) for my iphone 5.
it requires me to burn into a CD or DVD or using local sharing network to do so. well... a bit inconvenience...
Please help. You should have a folder within Itunes folder names Mobile Applications. If not, it got deleted. If all the apps you had on your computer are all the same ones on your phone, just connect your phone, and transfer purchases in itunes (right-click your phone name in the devices column).

I got a new laptop (Macbook Pro) and my IPhone is synced with my previous laptop (which I no longer have). I've recorded dozens of very long (un-emailable) Voice Memos over the last few weeks and need to get them from my IPhone onto my new laptop.
How do I do this?
(when I click on the Sync option I get the warning: "Are you sure you want to sync music? All existing songs and playlists on the iPhone will be replaced with songs and playlists from your iTunes library." I fear that if I click this I will lose all of my important Voice Memos as well)Just to add to what ChrisJ4203 said. You can sync them to your new computer using iTunes by selecting to Include Voice Memos on the Music tab of your iTunes sync settings and syncing. However, you still need to re-establish syncing with the new computer without iTunes erasing all the iTunes media from your phone (as the warning mentioned).
If you copy your entire iTunes folder (not just your music) from your old computer to your new one, along with other non-iTunes media you may be syncing with iTunes (such as contacts, calendars and any photos synced to your phone from your old computer) by using migration assistant of following one of these methods: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527, then when you sync again with your new computer it will recognize your phone and sync as it did before. You will still have to authorize the new computer for any Apple IDs used to purchase from the iTunes and App stores (in iTunes>Store>Authorize this computer).
After that you can sync your voice memos to your computer as mentioned earlier.
If you want to archive your voice memos before you do anything with iTunes, you can use a 3rd party program such as PhoneView or Touch Copy. -
I have burned numerous cd's onto my old computer. Many of these songs cannot be purchased on Itunes (Garth Brooks for example). My old computer died and now I can't transfer these songs from my ipod onto my new computer. How can I retreive my data?
What options do you have enabled from under your iPod's Summary and Music tabs for syncing preferences?

you're not reading correctly. try again:
However, if you’ve already added music, you won’t be able to merge the libraries; in the iTunes Media folder, found in the iTunes folder, move the Music folder to your desktop and add those files into iTunes after you’ve completed this process. (Note that you’ll lose any playlists, play counts, and the like associated with those files, however.)
the important passage is
since iTunes uses the same file format for both Mac and Windows, the program will be able to read your iTunes Library file and it will show your music, videos, podcasts, and so on with playlists, ratings, play counts, and the like. -
I replaced my iMac and want to put apps from my phone onto my new iMac. How do I do that?
Connect it to the Mac and use the Transfer Purchases function in iTunes.

MIGRATING FROM POWER PC G5 TO NEW i MAC
Approx how long should it take & is connecting machines via ethernet cable the fastest?
Anything to watch out for?
Thanks.Depends on how much you need to migrate. Ethernet is not the fastest. FireWire is faster - Target Disk Mode - and is what you will need to do using Migration Assistant. However, there are some caveats when migrating from a PPC to an Intel Mac:
A Basic Guide for Migrating to Intel-Macs
If you are migrating a PowerPC system (G3, G4, or G5) to an Intel-Mac be careful what you migrate. Keep in mind that some items that may get transferred will not work on Intel machines and may end up causing your computer's operating system to malfunction.
Rosetta supports "software that runs on the PowerPC G3, G4, or G5 processor that are built for Mac OS X". This excludes the items that are not universal binaries or simply will not work in Rosetta:
Classic Environment, and subsequently any Mac OS 9 or earlier applications
Screensavers written for the PowerPC
System Preference add-ons
All Unsanity Haxies
Browser and other plug-ins
Contextual Menu Items
Applications which specifically require the PowerPC G5
Kernel extensions
Java applications with JNI (PowerPC) libraries
See also What Can Be Translated by Rosetta.
In addition to the above you could also have problems with migrated cache files and/or cache files containing code that is incompatible.
If you migrate a user folder that contains any of these items, you may find that your Intel-Mac is malfunctioning. It would be wise to take care when migrating your systems from a PowerPC platform to an Intel-Mac platform to assure that you do not migrate these incompatible items.
If you have problems with applications not working, then completely uninstall said application and reinstall it from scratch. Take great care with Java applications and Java-based Peer-to-Peer applications. Many Java apps will not work on Intel-Macs as they are currently compiled. As of this time Limewire, Cabos, and Acquisition are available as universal binaries. Do not install browser plug-ins such as Flash or Shockwave from downloaded installers unless they are universal binaries. The version of OS X installed on your Intel-Mac comes with special compatible versions of Flash and Shockwave plug-ins for use with your browser.
The same problem will exist for any hardware drivers such as mouse software unless the drivers have been compiled as universal binaries. For third-party mice the current choices are USB Overdrive or SteerMouse. Contact the developer or manufacturer of your third-party mouse software to find out when a universal binary version will be available.
Also be careful with some backup utilities and third-party disk repair utilities. Disk Warrior 4.1, TechTool Pro 4.6.1, SuperDuper 2.5, and Drive Genius 2.0.2 work properly on Intel-Macs with Leopard. The same caution may apply to the many "maintenance" utilities that have not yet been converted to universal binaries. Leopard Cache Cleaner, Onyx, TinkerTool System, and Cocktail are now compatible with Leopard.
Before migrating or installing software on your Intel-Mac check MacFixit's Rosetta Compatibility Index.

Transferring data with Setup Assistant - Migration Assistant FAQ
Because Migration Assistant isn't the ideal way to migrate from PowerPC to Intel Macs, using Target Disk Mode, copying the critical contents to CD and DVD, an external hard drive, or networking
will work better when moving from PowerPC to Intel Macs. The initial section below discusses Target Disk Mode. It is then followed by a section which discusses networking with Macs that lack Firewire.
If both computers support the use of Firewire then you can use the following instructions:
1. Repair the hard drive and permissions using Disk Utility.
2. Backup your data. This is vitally important in case you make a mistake or there's some other problem.
3. Connect a Firewire cable between your old Mac and your new Intel Mac.
4. Startup your old Mac in Target Disk Mode.
5. Startup your new Mac for the first time, go through the setup and registration screens, but do NOT migrate data over. Get to your desktop on the new Mac without migrating any new data over.
If you are not able to use a Firewire connection (for example you have a Late 2008 MacBook that only supports USB:)
1. Set up a local home network: Creating a small Ethernet Network.
2. If you have a MacBook Air or Late 2008 MacBook see the following:

Copy the following items from your old Mac to the new Mac:
In your /Home/ folder: Documents, Movies, Music, Pictures, and Sites folders.
In your /Home/Library/ folder:
/Home/Library/Application Support/AddressBook (copy the whole folder)
/Home/Library/Application Support/iCal (copy the whole folder)
Also in /Home/Library/Application Support (copy whatever else you need including folders for any third-party applications)
/Home/Library/Keychains (copy the whole folder)
/Home/Library/Mail (copy the whole folder)
/Home/Library/Preferences/ (copy the whole folder)
/Home /Library/Calendars (copy the whole folder)
/Home /Library/iTunes (copy the whole folder)
/Home /Library/Safari (copy the whole folder)
If you want cookies:
/Home/Library/Cookies/Cookies.plist
/Home/Library/Application Support/WebFoundation/HTTPCookies.plist
For Entourage users:
Entourage is in /Home/Documents/Microsoft User Data
Also in /Home/Library/Preferences/Microsoft
Credit goes to Macjack for this information.
If you need to transfer data for other applications please ask the vendor or ask in the Discussions where specific applications store their data.
5. Once you have transferred what you need restart the new Mac and test to make sure the contents are there for each of the applications.

I have to install Photoshop CS4 extended on a new computer from a disk because my old computer had a hard drive crash. There is no serial number on the back of the case. How can I obtain a usable serial number?
Find your serial number quickly
You can activate software without following up and registering it... at least that was the case in the past. The serial number is normally located on the disc case or a box inside the main box. If you did not purchase the disc from Adobe then it is possible you would have dealt with a redemption code, in which case it would have been up to you to keep a record of the serial number, especially if you did not follow up and register the software. -
Have multiple iPhone backups across 2 iPhones and 3 iPads. I need to pull backup files and pictures off of backed up devices that are not my current in-use device. How do I do that? They are all under one apple ID.
If you still have the devices, import them to your computer (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083), then sync them to your current device. If they are only stored in backups, the only way to access them is to restore the device to the entire backup. Note: you can only restore photos in an iPhone backup to another iPhone, and from an iPad backup to another iPad. If the backups are on your computer, you may be able to extract the photos from the backup using 3rd party software such as iPhone Backup Extractor.

Migrating files from Power Mac G4 to iMac Intel Core 2 Duo machine.
I'm hoping someone can help me figure this out.
I have a Power Mac G4 that runs OS X 10.2.8. I just got an iMac Intel that runs 10.5.2. Both machines have firewire ports but when I have them connected and try to turn on my G4 while holding down the "T" key, the G4 starts to boot up--then it shuts down.
Does anyone have any idea why this keeps happening? Or, alternatively, is there a way for me to transfer files from my G4 to my iMac without using firewire or a flash drive?Click here for information; the position of the hard drive on the G4's ATA bus needs to be changed. If it is a SCSI drive, FireWire Target Disk mode cannot be used and the items need to be migrated by hand or the drive placed in an enclosure.

I have downloaded games from POGO just fine but when i go to install them it will start and then say installion aborted, all instelled componests were removed via the rollback feature and i have no idea what this means or how i an fix it. This has never happened before and I am not sure on what do to
Yes, the website works fine on my PC computer.
It was working fine on my iPad too until the message showed up. The website took a long time to load and when it finally did.. That message showed up twice. The site works now but at times will stop loading.
I do feel like my Internet connection on my iPad is spotty today. One minute it is loading super fast, the next, the page won't load at all. Could be my connection though.
I do not have the debug console set to on. Should I set it to on? -
A few years ago I was running out of room on my Windows laptop so I followed instructions on how to move all of the music to an external hard drive and then had all music added to the always connected external hard drive instead of the laptop. That old laptop has now died and I have a new one and need to get the music added to the new one. Is it as simple as just plugging the external hard drive into the new computer and importing or is there more I need to do? I'm just really not sure what to do and nervous about doing the wrong thing. The old computer was running Windows XP and the new one has Windows 8. I have downloaded iTunes to the new laptop. Please note that I am not super savvy so if anyone could provide easy to follow steps that would be great. Thank you!! Please let me know if you need more information. Thanks again!
