Installing bootcamp, pauses and reads "Back up the disk and format it to a single Mac OS extended journaled"

I just ran disk utility as promted and checked, the main disk is already formatted to a single Mac OS extended (journaled).
It previously had parallels partitioning, it is still installed and I can't uninstall it, could this be the problem?

No, Parallels does not create a partition, it's just another program.

  • I need help with boot camp. "Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant again."

"Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant again."
I verified my Macintosh HD disk on Disk utility and then tried to repair it, but I am unable to click the repair button.
It says it's not available because the startup disk is selected.
I don't know what to do or how to go about both these problems.
    Please, any suggestions?

  • Odd problem with partitioning the disk-- it says it needs to be a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume, but it already is? (Screenshots in post)

I have a 1 TB Macbook Pro running Mavericks.
    My disk is a single-volume...
Here is the information on my disk:
And I'm trying to use boot camp assist to partition my disk, like this:
But when I do, I get this error message:
"The disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved. Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant again."
It already is a single Mac OS Extended journaled volume.  Right? Here is an image from Disk Utility:
    Any ideas?

    Hey there!
It sounds like you are unable to install BootCamp due to an error that your some files cannot be moved, and to format your disk as a single volume, but you have confirmed that it already is. I would verify and repair your disk permissions with the following article next, if you have already restarted your computer and tried again:
Disk Utility 12.x: Repair disk permissions
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ph5821
Choose Apple menu > Software Update to make sure you have the latest version of Mac OS X.Software updates sometimes change a file’s permissions to improve security, so updating your software can solve some permissions problems.
Open Disk Utility, in the Utilities folder in Launchpad.
Select the disk you want to check. You can verify or repair permissions only on a disk with Mac OS X v10.7 Lion installed.
    Click First Aid.
    Do one of the following:
Click Verify Disk Permissions to test permissions.
Click Repair Disk Permissions to test and repair permissions.
Disk Utility repairs the permissions for files installed by the Mac OS X Installer, Software Update, or an Apple software installer. It doesn’t repair permissions for your documents, your home folder, or third-party applications.
If that does not resolve the issue, I would next verify and repair the disk with this:
Disk Utility 12.x: Repair a disk

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Take care,

Again without stating the trouble shooting steps you have taken, its hard to direct you with any information.
Try a different port on the computer.
Does the iphone beep when u plug it up. ?
Plug iphone into computer and give it 3 to 4 minutes to see if it connects and is running slow.,
Delete the apple mobile device from your computer.
    Upgrade itunes to newest version.
Is you USB cord defective ?
Any USB 3.0 on your system ? .
Delete or Disable  any antivirus program on your computer ?
I will tell u the problem is your computer not the phone.
We could do this for hours.

  • Bootcamp 5 + 3TB HD: The startup disk must be formatted as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume

    Hi all,
I installed a brand new 3TB Seagate Barracuda HD in my iMac late 2009 after read that apple provides a patch to use 3TB discs with bootcamp with 10.8.3.
I tried to install windows in my 3TB disc 4 o 5 times, reinstalling from scratch, formatting the disc from terminal, etc... I tried everything and I keep getting the same message: The startup disk must be formatted as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume or already partitioned by Boot Camp Assistant for installing Windows.
The disc has a single 3TB Mac OS Extended (Journaled) partition, but bootcamp keep saying that is not... and doesn't allows me to install windows. I read a lot of discussions here and other communities but as I said, none solution worked for me.
Any of you could manage to fix this issue?? Is Apple aware of that problem?
    Any idea will be welcome!
    Ivan

    Hi,
Anybody in the forum have managed to use bootcamp with a 3Tb disc?? or get any answer from Apple...
    Regards,

That's essentially what Solving Boot Camp partition creation problems says. What is your question?

Why not just use tabs? I have several tabs (up to 10) open all day long; I simply switch (click) from to the other and then hit refresh/update the content if necessary.
And, in order to get here (or wherever) easily, I have the most used bookmarks in my Bookmarks Toolbar right above the tabs, so everything is just one click away.....

  • Can't save multiple folders to external drive. Get: "The operation can't be completed because you don't have permission to access some of the items." when dragging large folders to mac os extended journalled external drive from OS 10.6.8

    Hi
    I am feeling  VERY desperate!
After losing an external drive [dont ask....]  -   I got  another one :  2TB WD formatted properly [ OS extended journalled for mac ] ready for action to move  my thousands of files and images and ppts in hundreds of folders across from the laptop to this drive because I travel a bit with the laptop and this is too risky not to back up at home.
But this message came up after starting on moving folders across [** and not straight away, sometimes after moving  a folder  when  4 of 6 gb of files across  then the message comes up  = very frustrating]:
"The operation can’t be completed because you don't have permission to access some of the items."
I am  dragging mixed sometimes large complex folders to this  os extended journalled external drive from my mac book pro OS 10.6.8  - it would take decades to move items one by one or even folder by folder and really confusing.
I have  dragged-copied  various small folders and files across successfully, but it is only working 50:50 and I can't leave machine with the idea of things copying eg: overnight - it just won't work....
I have been browsing google and find some people describing in CODE how they overcome this 'message'   .... but  I  [and I guess some other viewers of this in future & also in desperation]  would need  instructions for beginners....  to try this type of thing.  I don't know any code.
How can this be happening - I feel ANGRY at APPLE !!!!  for not posting easy fix instructions yet re; this, or better still  updating software so it doesn't happen [ that I can find at least  !!! ] .   There seem to be hundreds of people stuck with this stupid message and inability to back up their projects etc.
    Can anyone help ?
    Many thanks
    Julie
    15 August 2011

    hi Samberl
thanks a lot for the fast reply.
I was dragging folders from main folders on the laptop-desktop  onto the external drive icon - to copy them across....
Your suggestion sounds very promising -  I didn't know about 'cloning'.
Yes the idea is to backup the laptop -    I thought I would just move it all now, new - and then keep saving/dragging physically   across to the new drive myself each day or two...
Would this be the sizeof the internal hard drive = c.500 gb  ?   =   under the HD icon on desktop is written  :
    " 499.76gb , 311.5 gb free  "
I can erase and start agin on the new external drive - so this plan is to make two partititions, rather than the one at present, and make one of them 500 gb ?
I have found CCC [carbon copy cloner] googling - looks good.
When CCC site says it backs up  the hard drive - would this  mean all my files  [over 100 gb] that are mostly  in folders on the desktop, plus the others in itunes, iphotos etc found in the HD icon,  would all copy across successfully [wherever they are in the computer ]  ?
thanks again, hope you can clarify these things and then I will go for it.
It would be great and amazing if this 'lack of permission' message doesn't show up in the process of doing this ccc transfer - hopeful!
    Julie

  • HT4407 Hey, I am unable to install windows 7 using 'bootcamp 5.0' . I have already partitioned the drive as (mac Os Extended Journaled) and yet it seems bootcamp won't acknowledge this?

Hey, I am unable to install windows 7 using 'bootcamp 5.0' . I have already partitioned the drive as (mac Os Extended Journaled) and yet it seems bootcamp won't acknowledge this?
My first thoughts were that 'bootcamp' was out of date...needed an upgrade to register windows 7. Since then I am once again met with the same problem... how can it not see the I have already have a paritioned drived ready to be used for installition, is there a way to fix this problem? I don't really want to pay out for 'i-parition' only to merge my 2 drives back into one and start again from scratch =/. Seems silly to do so...what are my options?
Regards Swishi...p.s If anyone can help me...it'll make my day :3.

    ONE PARTITION.
You don't need to buy anything but you should have backups.
you can delete #2 you created. Then resize to full drive.
    There are already

    Recovery
and there needs to be Windows which cannot be higher ID

You must have a slower connection if it took 2.5 hours, did you pause it or exit out to the main screen? I've paused movies many times and it resumes..it could be due to the connection as well  so what is your actual speed? Check www.speedtest.net Wifi or ethernet? Have you changed the DNS settings?

If that doesn't help, the battery may be dying and need replacement. See here (tap on Battery Replacement): http://support.apple.com/kb/index?page=servicefaq&geo=United_States&product=ipad
Alternately, might consider start saving for a new iPad. The newest iPad 6 should come out in the next few months. When it does, sellers will want to get rid of old inventory with good deals.
