Unsuccessfully trying to install network printer om iMac running OSX 10.5.
Able to access printer ip address via browser but unable to add network printer since the bj network tool is not finding the printer. When pinging the printer ip address - there is no response on wired or wireless ip address.
Assistance will be appreciated.

  • HP LaserJet Pro m201dw suddenly not printing via ethernet (wired) network using Mac OS 10.10.1

    Hi,
My brand-new HP LaserJet Pro M201dw is suddenly not cooperating when I go to print using my Mac. I had it set up following the directions which closest matched my OS and it worked perfectly for one week; today suddenly it won't cooperate. The printer is seen on the network. I have deleted and re-installed it from my System Preferences several times. I have rebooted my computer. I cannot seem to get it to work. Even the HP Utility is having difficulty. The HP Utility is suddenly slow and often needs to be force-quit as it hangs when I navigate to other applications (web browser, etc.) while waiting for it to respond to clicks. Most often the HP Utility shows the printer in the status ara as "Device Status: Unknown" and "Supplies: Unknown" which it wasn't having issues with yesterday.
Can anyone help me troubleshoot this device? Is there better documentation than the basic setup page here on HP? What about adjusting some setting in the printer web page (which I can access) - is the answer in there?
    Thank you.

    Hi @td2243,
I see that you are having issues printing over the wired network. I would like to help you out with this issue today.
    Try and ping the printer.
On the Apple menu bar, click Go, then click Applications, then Network Utilities. (you can go to the finder and type in Network Utilities)
Click on PING from the bar at the top of the window.
Enter the IP Address of the printer and click Ping.
Did you get any replies back?
Repair the Disk Permissions on the Mac:
    Close all applications.
On the Apple menu bar, click Go, click Applications and then click Utilities.
    Double-click Disk Utility.
Highlight your hard drive/partition on the left.
Click Verify and then Repair Disk Permissions.
    Restart the computer..
    Reset the Printing System:
Note: This will remove all printers in the print and Fax/Scan, any printer removed can be re-added later by clicking the plus (+) symbol.
Click the Apple icon and then click System Preferences.
    Click Printers & Scanners.
Right-click (or Ctrl +click) in the left white side panel, then click Reset printing system.
Click OK to confirm the reset.
Type the correct Name and Password.
Click OK to reset the printing system.
Then click the + sign to add the driver, highlight the printer. (you might have to click the drop down to select the printer's name) Then click on the Add button.
    Try printing again.
Here is some more information on this issue.

  • Installing Canon MP600 printer

Cannot install Canon MP600 printer. I've cleared out all the old Canon software, then downloaded all latest drivers form Canon, but when I try to add the printer I get message
"An error occurred while trying to add the selected printer.
    successful-ok-conflicting-attributes"
Any ideas how to resolve this?

My mp600 installed perfect. If you have the cd that came with it, I just installed the included drivers and all went fine. Try trashing all the canon software again. Search with spotlight to see if any other canon programs are in folders elsewhere and trash them too. Then try reinstalling again. Even without installing the drivers, your mac should recognize and make usable the mp600 (it just has less print settings than the actual canon driver).

  • Windows Cannot Connect to Canon MP530 Printer via AEBSn

OK, here's my setup, and my problem:
    1. Mac mini, Windows Vista PC, Windows XP PC all connected to an AEBSn via Ethernet.
    2. Bonjour for Windows installed on both PCs.
    3. Ministack w/built-in powered USB2.0 Hub & Internal HDD connected to AEBSn's USB port.
    3. External HDD in USB 2.0 enclosure attached to Ministack via USB port.
    4. Canon MP530 Printer connected to Ministack via USB port.
I can read and write to the Minstack's internal HDD and the other External HDD from any computer on the network, no problem. I can print to the printer from the Macintosh. But I CANNOT print from the Windows PC.
I can, allegedly, see the printer from the Windows machines and add it via Bonjour. I have also tried to add it via the method listed at iFelix's website (i.e. adding a printer by creating a new TCP/IP printer port). But nothing works.
Here is what happens: everything "appears" to work and the printer shows up on the Windows machines and in fact quite often once it is set up I can print a test page. However, once I try to use the machine later on, after the initial set-up it never works, this has happened now over about 15-20 cycles of installing, uninstalling, and re-installing the printer.
What I notice happens by looking at the Windows printer queue when i send a document to the printer in Windows is the following:
    1. Sometimes the print dialog will simply say something like "Checking printer status" and just freeze there and nothing prints.
    2. Sometimes it will add the document to the queue and then immediately delete it and nothing prints.
    3. Quite often it will simply say something like "Printer is not responding" or "Printer is offline" and the print job just sits in the queue and nothing prints.
    4. Sometimes, and I am not joking, the document will print out minutes later, inexplicably, once ten minutes later after the computer was turned off!
This is maddening and I would love a solution, even if that solution is ditch the Canon and buy "insert printer name" or "known working printer", because at this point I just need to print from the network with some consistency. I can print from any computer if the Canon is directly connected, but that is a horrible process of plugging and unplugging USB cables, and this is SUPPOSED to work.
Also, I would note that I am not adverse to using a switch with the printer, and would prefer an auto switch if anyone knows one that is know to work with PCs and Mac. I would prefer one that did not take an Ethernet port (like the new Belkin one) as I need all three of them for wired connections.
Any help greatly appreciated as I have been battling this problem for many days now with no help, and the Apple Geniuses at my local store could not provide a solution or even recommend a printer that was known to work with Windows via the AEBSn.

    Thanks, Arimaris!
    Appreciate the response!
Your first link should be: http://www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/8013.html
That is the link for the compatibility list for the NEWER AEBSn, the one you provided is for the older base station. I've seen this list before and the problem is that most of the printers are older there, and hard to find, and there is no certainty that if you do buy that older printer it will workk as the disclaimer on the article reads: "Please also note that due to changes in firmware and software upgrades some printers which are in this list may no longer in fact be compatible."
I would love to see an OFFICIAL lost from Apple about which printers are KNOWN to work with the AEBSn via USB, but I am thinking they might not do that so as not to anger their partners who cannot seem to make their printers function properly via Windows.
I've also tried the method mentioned in your second link, many times, and it does not work for me, either consistently or reliably. I've gotten the printer to work that way (creating a new printer port via TCP/IP w/ AEBS IP addy) maybe once or twice, usually right after I set it up, and then immediately after the test print, or after a restart, it stops working. I've also had it not work after set-up. I've also experienced the "It doesn't work, walk away, and then it prints 15 mins later" syndrome, with this approach. Also, it is a pain to later delete this new TCP/IP port and try again.
Something has got to give, someone has got to know the answer to this problem. I valiantly tried to get answers from the "experts" and "geniuses" at MacWorld this month, to no avail. Sorry you are experiencing the same, I feel your pain.

  • How to install Canon MG3170 printer to Macbook Air (mid 2012), both USB & wifi

I have been trying to install the Canon MG3170 to my Macbook Air (mid 2012 version) using OS X Version 10.8.4. I followed the paper manual that came with the box & used the CD provided. In the midst of the installation, "AN ERROR OCCURRED WHILE TRYING TO ADD THE SELECTED PRINTER: UNABLE TO FIND THE APPROPRIATE SOFTWARE ON YOUR SYSTEM AFTER RUNNING SOFTWARE UPDATE."
    Problems:
    1) Cannot connect on Network because there is no WPS button on my Airport Extreme and Airport Express.
    2) Cannot print, both via USB or wifi network.
When I bought the printer, I specifically selected this because it has Airprint and wireless printing and was one of the few printers in the Apple Online store. However, I have been having a lot of issues getting the printer installed to be used on  my Macbook Air.
    Please help!!

    Thank you John Galt!
After running SOFTWARE UPDATE, I restarted the Macbook. (DO NOT CONNECT THE PRINTER TO THE MACBOOK YET!)
Then I connected the Canon Printer MG3170 to my MacBook Air via the USB cable.
Next, I switched on the printer.
    I am able to print and scan (via USB cable) from;
SYSTEM PREFERENCES - PRINT & SCAN - select CANON MG3100 series.
To install applications for printing & scanning, go to http://support-asia.canon-asia.com/contents/ASIA/EN/8201148300.html
However, this solved part of the question above, i.e., printing via USB cable (which is not the whole purpose of using the Airprint Printer) but at least it is a start.
*NOTE: UNINSTALL any prior Canon softwares and drivers specifically installed for this printer first before attempting the steps above as it may interfere with the installation process.

  • How do I get my PC to See my Photosmart 5515 Printer via my wireless network

I have recently purchased a Photosmart 5515 (B111h) printer and have followed the setup instructions to the letter. The printer is now connected to the wireless network with an IP address of 192.168.0.4. However I am unable to find it on the network using the HP setup software.
To test the connection I have set up eprinting and his works fine, so the printer must be connected to my route to be able to connect to the internet. I have run the printers wireless newtork test report and everything has come out "PASS"
I have tried turning off my personal firewall (Norton Internet Security 2012), but this has made no difference.
I have run the HP network diagnostics, this has not found the printer in (in the "HP printers found on your network" box) but does show it (in the newtwork devices list) as a device on the network with the IP address above and the name HPEC9A76C7CAB.
I have also tried to brows the printers internal web page at the IP address but I get nothing, the page is in a constant state of update (No "page not found message", but no page either). Eventually (over 5 min) it stop trying to update, the page remains bland but a "HP" logo appears in the page tab.
I have a samsung laser on the wireless network and this behaves perfectly and can easily be browsed.
I also had a Kodak, which I removed to be replaced by the HP which also behaved perfectly for nearly 2 years.
I am using a SKY router, which had been in use for several years now - without any problems.
I have also tried connecting the printer via USB. This worked fine, but when I tried to use the setup software to change the USB connection to a wireless one, it identified the the printer was already connected to my wireless network, but again could not find it.
I am pulling my hair out here (and i have not got much to spare) can anyone help me out with a solution?
    Thanks

    HI,
I do not have a "Devices and Printers" option when I click on the start, The only thing I have close to that is the "Settings" then the "Printers" option but that behaves nothing like you describe from step 2 onewards.
I did have a play with the printers though and tried to add a preinter manually. When I chose the option of the new printer to be wireless it found the printer and I was able to install a driver for it from the CD. So now I have the printer working..... BUT the HP 5510 family printer software still does not work, I still can not connect it to the printer and can not install the scanner.
If I run HP home diagnostics It still can not find the printer on the network. However (now that I have installed the printer manually) the HP printer diagnostics finds the printer straight away and tells me there are no problems with it!!.
This is a far from satifactory situation. I may have the printer working (not exactly sure how I managed this when the HP software still can not see it) but I have no scanner or access to the HP tools.
Has anyone got any Idea what is going on or how to fix it?
    Cheer

  • How do I manage to setup my Canon to print via Time Capsule

    Dear MacGurus
I've got a Canon MP520 printer/scanner that I've connected to my MacBook Air (OS X 10.8.1) and works well with printing & scanning. Just received my 2TB Time Capsule and want to set it up as a printerserver. I've joined it to my local WLAN that connects to Internet and set it up with Time lapse for backup.
Now, plugging the MP520 USB into the back of the TC I go to System Preferences -> Print & Scan. Here I naturally see the MP520 being unplugged from my McBook Air (as it is now plugged in to the TC...) Anyway, I click the small [+]-icon and selects "Add new printer or scanner". Here I now see the "Canon MP520 series" listed as a "Bonjour"/printer with Location on my TC. Selecting it and clicking "Add" a pop/says "Setting up Canon MP520 series-2, downloading software" and the progress par reaches some 30% progress when I get the following error message:
"Can't install the software for the Canon MP520 series because it is not currently available from the Software Update server."
What is the problem? The printer works fine locally, but not over the air. Is it not supported by Bonjuor?
    Kind regards
    Niclas

Much more likely they don't have network drivers for ML.. try downloading whatever software is required directly and then installing it instead of allowing auto install.

  • Cannot install Canon MX700 Printer Drivers

I have tried to install from the CDROM that came with the printer, it failed with both the "Easy" and the "Custom" installs, with the error message:
MP Drivers could not be installed. Click [Start Over] to reexecute the installation process. That also fails, and I decided to break out of the infinite loop of starting over again and again by posting this message.
I also tried the suggestions as to how to correct installation problems, such as trying to install with an administrator account, and having no other apps running. These did not work; this is good because this isn't Windows after all.
Furthermore, I downloaded the drivers from the Canon USA site
    http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=SupportDeta ilTabAct&fcategoryid=238&modelid=15651&kbpage=yes#DownloadDetailAct
but no joy with 6.9.3 nor with the CUPS 10.1.2 either. Both report failure with: The following install step failed: run preflight script for Canon IJ Printer Driver. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance. I wondered if I was alone with this problem with OS X 10.5.6?

I think you will find this is not an issue with 10.5.6, but rather something about your Mac setup that is stopping the installer from working correctly.
Try the following procedure for repairing faulty installations of the Canon drivers.
    1. Open System Preferences > Print & Fax. Highlight the Canon printer in the Printer list and click the minus ( - ) button.
    2. Hold Control key and click in the empty Printers list. Click on Reset Printing System.
    3. Close Print & Fax
    4. Go to Library > Printers > Canon and delete the contents of the BJPrinter folder.
    5. Go to Library > Receipts and delete the Canon driver package file, if one exists. The file name will show Canon MX700 xxx.pkg
    6. Go to Library > Preferences and delete the Canon folder.
    7. Empty the Trash
    8. Unplug the Canon USB cable and restart the Mac
    9. Install the version 6.9.3 Canon driver that you downloaded. You don't need the CUPS v10.1.2 driver or any version on the included CDROM.
    10. Once the driver installation is complete, go to Applications > Utilities and open Disk Utility. Run the Repair Disk Permissions option.
    11. Reconnect the Canon USB cable. Then open Print & Fax and see if the Canon printer is listed. If it is, try a test print.
    12. If the printer is not listed, click the plus ( + ) button.
    13. Select the Default view and select the Canon printer connected via the USB port. The Print Using menu should automatically change to Canon IJ Printer.
    14. Click Add to add the printer.

  • Trying to add Canon MP500 printer via Bonjour; get Error -9672

I have my Airport Express hooked up to my Canon MP500 printer. My computer recognizes the Airport Express. I go to Print & Fax in System Preferences and try and add the printer via Bonjour - it stalls and then displays Error -9672. I have had this printer hooked up successfully before. Any suggestions? Thanks.

    From HP Support
Reset the device when it is not functioning properly.
If the device is not functioning properly or to clear memory, reset it.
On the operator panel, press and hold the <ON/OFF> button for one second. (The display will go blank.)
Wait approximately ten seconds and then press the <ON/OFF> button again.
Wait until the device has completed its cycling process before submitting another job request.
A number of site online mention problems with different brand printers on intel macs. Some have correcedt the problem by downloading an older driver that that which came with the computer.

  • Cannot print from IMac or Dell Latitude Laptop on Canon MX330 printer via Airport Extreme.

Trying to connect a Canon MX330 printer to an IMac and Dell Latitude laptop via Airport extreme and having no luck.
All devices recognize the printer, but when I try to print from the IMac it says that the printer is offline, even though it is not. The printer status on the IMac says offline until I clear the printer queue and then the status goes online.
When I try to print from the Dell laptop the printer reacts, but nothing prints.
I have run through all of the troubleshooting in the support section online. Any advice?

Unfortunately, not all USB printers are compatible with AirPort base stations. In addition, the  AirPort's USB port does not support the "advanced" printer functions, like scanning, copying or faxing, of multi-function printers.
To see if your printer is compatible, take a look at thisiFelix Unofficial AirPort Printer Compatibility link. If your printer isn't listed, it doesn't necessarily mean it won't work, but simply that it has not been verified. iFelix also provides the following workaround for printers not on the list that would certainly be worth a try.
Also you can try this Apple Tech Support article to see if it will help: Printer troubleshooting for AirPort Base Stations and Time Capsule
Finally, check out this IBM support article to see if your printer is listed as having a Postscript or PCL3 interface. If it does, then it will most likely work with the AirPort's USB port. Printers that use the "HP LIDIL" interface must be connected to a computer directly and will not work.

  • Canon MP980 not visible as wired network printer

I have a Canon MP980, ethernet attached that worked fine on two MacBook Pros running Leopard. Upgraded to SL on one of the machines and the printer can't be discovered. Updated drivers, works fine USB attached. Spent an hour on the phone with Canon tech. Can ping it. Scanner works. We trashed preferences, repaired permissions, reinstalled again, no luck. Canon sent me to Apple who told me that network printer issues were "not supported." Suggested I try the forums. Here I am, any advice? When I run the Canon IJ Network tool, it shows me the mac address, when I click "Apply" nothing happens. Network printer never shows up in the add printer panel. Only "printer" listed is Canon MP980 Series but the "Kind" column lists "Bonjour Scanner."

Here you go. Thanks for your help!

  • Can you use AirPrint to print to hard wired printer via your WiFi network?

Recently I bought an Officejet 6700 Premium e-All-in-One to serve all my PCs in the house and to use the AirPrint functionality for all the iPhones & iPads.
The printer is located in the basement office where there is poor wireless reception, and therefore connected with a wire (ethernet) to a wireless router one level up on the ground floor. The wireless router covers & connects everything (PCs, iPhones & iPads) in rest of the house.
I do not seem to be able to set up AirPrint when the printer is connected through the ethernet to the local network. Only when I unplug the ethernet cable and connect the printer wirelessly (with poor reception) to the  wireless network, I get AirPrint to work ...... As soon as I plug in the Ethernet cable the WiFi of the printer shuts off and AirPrint does not function anymore.
Is there anyway for me to keep the printer "ethernet connected" through the wire and use AirPrint ??
I underdstand ther is a lot AirPrint is wireless, but why can it not be wireless from the iPhone/iPad to the wireless router and then through the ethernet cable to hard wired printer ? It's all on the same network with proper IP addresses etc. Do not understand why the printer also needs to connect wirelessly to the router to enable AirPrint.......
    thanks for helping out,

I came across this discussion when looking for a solution to a similar problem. We have an AirPrint certified printer that does not have built-in Wi-Fi. Using a USB cable it worked well with our iMac, but we also wanted to use AirPrint with our iOS devices. In our situation, we cannot run an Ethernet cable from our router (a 4th generation Airport Extreme) to either our iMac or printer. With help from Apple Support, here is what became our solution.
Using an Ethernet cable, we connected an AirPort Express router (2012 model) to the printer to provide a Wi-Fi capability to the printer. AirPrint apparently will not work with a USB cable. Because the AirPort Express was being repurposed, we reset it using what Apple refers to as a “Factory” or “Default Settings reset.” With the reset completed, the Express became visible within Airport Utility, showing a connection to the Extreme. Within Airport Utility, click on the Airport Express to open its status window; click on the Edit button, then the Wireless tab, and then select “Join a wireless network” within the Network Mode options. This made the Express into a “wireless bridge” between the printer and the Extreme, allowing our iOS devices to see the AirPrint printer. Our iMac also connects wirelessly to the printer.
Within Airport Utility, we could have selected “Extend a wireless network” as the Network Mode, however because we rely on a wireless connection between the Extreme and Express, doing so has the potential of reducing throughput among Wi-Fi devices because of the resulting network overhead. We had been using Printopia to allow our iOS devices to work with an earlier non-AirPrint printer. To avoid conflicts we turned Printopia off, accessing it within the iMac’s System Preferences. AirPrint is easier to use and provides better printer output than did Printopia.
When our HP printer sleeps, the iMac computer wakes it up as needed, however the sleeping printer becomes invisible to the iOS devices. We hope to fix this weakness, possibly by resetting the printer's sleep setting.

  • How to get How do I get my Vista PC to See my Photosmart 5515 Printer via my wireless network

I have recently purchased a Photosmart 5515 (B111h) printer and have followed the setup instructions to the letter. The printer is now connected to the wireless network with an IP address of 192.168.0.4. Nomatter what I try I cannot get my PC or laptop to see the printer, either using hp setup software, hp network diagnostics or via web browser using the printers ip address. I can use my pc to get the router to ping the printer sucessfuly. In desparation i set up my XP netbook and eventually got it to browse the printers built in homepage but i could not connect via hp software. After running the hp network diagnostics it told me that the correct software was not installed. After some further effort i eventually ended up downloding 5515b drivers and now the netbook is sucessfully sending to the printer, but I still can not get the two Vista machines to even see the printer. Any help from the Experts would be much appreciated. Thanks Thanks

OK, well, I don't suppose it could have been that easy
I am thinking it has something to do with your router.  It is supplied by your ISP, right?  Try restarting the router by pulling its power plug momentarily.  Make sure the printer re-connects (with a proper IP address) after the router restarts.
Can you check to see if the firmware in the router is up to date?
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • Printing over wireless & wired network.  3 Macs.

I think you can do this not sure. I've got the AirPort Express connected to a wired router for internet. The printer is plugged into the AE. How do I get the other two Macs (connected to router; wired) to add the printer? Is this possible? Thanks.

I have a similar setup -- DSL router in basement wired to 4-port hub in attic -- from this hub, wired to an iMac (OSX 10.2.8), an eMac (10.2.8), and an AirPort Express. iBook (10.3.9) connects via AirPort, as does a new Dell laptop (I had no choice) running XP Pro.
Macs had been sharing printer (Epson Stylus C42) connected to the eMac, but I decided to move printer to the AirPort Express.
iBook and Dell both succesfully print to the AirPort connected Epson.
The eMac sees the printer, but everytime I try to print, "Processing Job" gets about 1/2 way thru, then Job stops. Restarting in Print Center gets same result again.
The iMac doesn't even see the printer (Add Printer -- Rendevous, shows empty window). So -- the hardwired computers are still a problem. (Restarts did not help).
    Any ideas greatly appreciated!

  • Not able to add Canon MP830 printer via TC

I have a Canon MP830 connected to my TC via USB and I cannot add it as a printer. I am getting an error message of -9672. Does anyone have any info on this? I can add the printer and print to it via USB, but not connected to the Time Capsule.
I bought the TC so that we could have backups now the printer does not work. Please Help.

I had the same issue but have a Canon iP4500. Try the following which worked for me:
Make sure your printer is hooked up to the Time Capsule.
Open System Preferences, then open Print & Fax
Hold down the Control key while you click in the Printers box and select Reset Print System
Then hit the + button to re-add your printer.
Hope this helps. I'm not familiar with your Canon model but bear in mind that the TC printing option is for basic printing only. You won't be able to scan or do advanced stuff when the printer is hooked up to the Time Capsule.
