Installing Captivate 7.0
I have been struggling with loading Captivate 7.0 (electronically). Even thought I am attached to the internet, and other programs have no problem attaching, the install program is unable to get to the sign in screen. When I bypass that and continue the install it gets to the 3% mark and then just keeps increasing the About xxx minutes remaining (3% complete).
I have uninstalled our last version Captivate 5.5.
Please advise.

Install Captivate 4 on Windows 7 64-bit machine with Windows XP mode?
Hi,
I have been searching the web to find out the best way/place in which to load Captivate 4 on my Windows 7 64-bit machine. Seems some people have issues with recording, others don't. I have Windows XP mode on my machine.
My question is... what's the best way to load Captivate 4 on Windows 7 - should I install to Windows 7 and see how it goes. Or should I install under Windows XP mode?
Thank you!
MicheleYea it works in XP mode

Try running Cp4 in WinXp compatibility mode on Win7. Also make sure
you're set to Run as Administrator.
I run Cp4 on Win7 without issues. But other users report similar problems
to yourself. In the end, it may or may not work for you because Adobe has
never claimed Cp4 was compatible with Vista or Win7 64bit.

Installing Captivate 8 on an external hard drive?
Is it possible to install Captivate 8 and supporting files on an external hard drive so that I can use it on different computers, such as library or school labs, so I can create screen capture or tutorial scripts with their system without having to install the program on their computers? For instance, I work at a family history center and want to create tutorials that show exactly how the exclusive programs and websites work in center's system, but don't want to leave my program on their system permanently. I also want to complete the tutorials without having to take the time to do the installation or wait for tech staff to install the program when I am visiting other family history repositories or learning institutions.
Install a trial download of Captivate 8 on their system. The do all the captures you need. Transfer the CPTX files to your own PC and finish off there. It shouldn't be a problem. You cannot finish files on their system with the trial version because the output will stop working after 30 days. So you just need to make sure you finish the files on your own system and be careful to turn off the 30 day expiry in Preferences.

Hi,
I've just downloaded the trial version of Captivate 5 but it throws an error while installing and I've not seen anything on the web explaining what might be happening.

The first line of the error log seems to hint at unmet requirements, but the laptop I'm trying to install Cpativate in is a Windows 7 64 bits machine with 4Gb or RAM and plenty of disk space (well above 20Gb).
Can someone please help me? I've been waiting for CP5 for ages!
RuiHi Chirs , sorry for the trouble you are facing. We would like you to be up and running in the language of your choice and not choose the workaround. I have a solution , see if this works for you
Inside the installer folder [either from dvd or a local folder or a extracted location], you can find a folder called "payloads".
1) Inside that, you can find some folders with their names starting with "Microsoft_".
2) Amongst such folders, you should find 3 folders which also end with "_x86_x64".
3) Go into each of these 3 folders and try running the "msi" files manually by double clicking them. In the options screens, select "modify" and keep clicking next till you finish.
Before the workaround .. you have uninstall Captivate 5 and after the workaround re-install captivate in German and this should solve.
if not , I can set up a meeting with you and try and help resolving this issue.
We deeply appreciate your interest shown towards Captivate 5
Thanks

Can't install Captivate Voices 8 on Mac
I downloaded and installed Captivate 8 on my Mac, but I can't seem to install the NeoSpeech Voices add on. I've downloaded the .dmg installer I couple of different times, and started the install, but everytime it only gets to 2% installation, and then says Installation Failed. When I look at the error summary it says:
Exit Code: 7
Please see specific errors below for troubleshooting. For example, ERROR: DS003 ...
-------------------------------------- Summary --------------------------------------

FATAL: DS003: Installer package might be corrupt. Re-download the installer and try again. So like I said I downloaded the installer 3 separate times and tried again, but same thing.
Is there a work-around or a way to get a .dmg installer that works?See if the following leads to a solution

Am I allowed to install Captivate on 2 machines (desktop and laptop) with 1 license?
Am I allowed to install Captivate on 2 machines (desktop and laptop) with 1 license?
Does it matter whether it is an individual license vs volume license? The End user license agreement says that you can install of 2 machines however you can't use both at the same time with captivate working on it.
The previlage is givent to the user keeping the fact in mind that you might have a work laptop that you need to bring back home and work on it,so you can install it on Desktop at office and on the laptop as well and bring it back home and start working on it.

Purchased and downloaded/installed Captivate 7 but get 'serial number valid but' error
Purchased and downloaded/installed Captivate 7 but get 'serial number valid but a qualifying product could not be found on this computer' error. I have checked serial number, checked that I purchased correct version (7) direct and not an upgrade but the drop down list tha tthe window shows is only previous 6 versions and it is 7 I purchased/installed and is opening.
Captivate thinks you bought an upgrade. Adobe Support will have to help you.
I went through this (with an upgrade) but my qualifying product was also an upgrade, and Adobe didn't list my original product (CP2). So there was no way to put in all the info.
And, just FYI, keep that serial number handy. Even after Adobe Support fixed my Captivate so that it will run, every once in awhile...for no apparent reason...Captivate will start in "trial" mode and I have to re-enter the serial number. It always works after I do that. But, it's a pain so I now keep the serial number posted on my bulletin board for handy reference.

I have installed Captivate 5 using the License serial no. as showing on the Adobe LWS.
I dont have any License for Captivate 7 nor have I installed any trial versions.
So not sure where this info. is being picked up.
Thanks,
SPHi SP,
I dont think this is anything to worry about, Captivate 5 is legacy software, So it maybe something in the system has got confused, Captivate 5 was superseeded by Captivate 5.5 in 2011 and 6 in 2012, and then 7 in 2013, so i'm guessing that regardless of the version someone has the latest version number is displayed.

Cannot install captivate 8 on Mac - Installer failed to initialise
I have a iMac 10.7.5 and cannot install Captivate 8
I have installed it successfully on my Macbook air using the same file
I have 6, and 7 on my iMAC and never had any problems installing software on this machine before.
Any help would be very appreciatedI can only find a Flash CS3 Installer. When I try to use that, I get an error message that reads:
JavaScript Alert
Critical errors were found in setup
- The installer database is invalid: please re-install the product from the original media.
Please see the Setup log file for details.
Hi Ted,
It seems that you might have upgraded your OS from Tiger(10.4)/Leopard(10.5) to Snow Leopard(10.6) and in the process the Adobe installer database file got corrupted somehow. I would need you to uninstall Flash CS3, run the CS3 and CS4 clean up script to remove any remaining entries of Fl CS3 or PSE 8 then delete the below two files by moving them into trash and emptying the trash and then install Flash CS3 again followed by PSE8. Now, you shall be able to run both the products fine. All the othr CS3 apps mentioned in your above thread will get installed along with Fl CS3.
Here is the location where you will be able to locate the .db files:
<Macintosh HD>\Library\Application Support\Adobe\backup\
<Macintosh HD>\Library\Application Support\Adobe\caps\
Here are the reference links for CS3 and CS4 clean up scripts:
http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cs3clean.html
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/406/kb406241.html
Let me know in case you have any queries before executing the above mentioned steps.

Ankush

Installing Captivate on Windows 7
We are 'upgrading' to Windows 7 from XP. We have Captivate 2 and then the upgrades of versions 3 and 4 to bring us up to date.
When trying to re-install captivate 2 as the base level software on the Windows 7 machines the Install Wizard keeps coming up with a message :
Any ideas would be welcomed.
Regards
Dick PHi Dick
Have you tried skipping the version 2 and 3 and just installing version 4? That's probably what I'd try. If that fails, I'd try installing the trial, then using the key from the 4 upgrade to see if it will convert to a licensed version.
Cheers... Rick

I get a 213.10 error after installing Captivate
Why do I get a 213.10 error after installing Captivate 7 on a Windows 7 32 bit workstation?
These ones are tricky. But the following instructions are worth a try.
First do a complete uninstall of iTunes and related components (but don't reinstall just yet), as per the following document:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
a. Launch regedit (Start >> Search Programs and Files >> type Regedit and open the regedit that comes up.)
b. Access the following Location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData \S-1-5-18\Components
c. Perform the following actions
i. Right Click on Components Folder
ii. Select Permissions
iii. Select Full Control and Read Permissions options
iv. Select Advanced Button
v. Select Owner Tab
vi. Select to Change Owner to the Administrators
vii. Check the option “Replace owner on subcontainers and objects”
viii. Select OK when prompted that it may not change all.
ix. Select Apply
x. Select Apply again
xi. Exit the Registry Editor
Now try reinstalling iTunes again. Does it go in properly this time? -
Problems installing Captivate 7
I am running Mavericks on my Mac. I removed the layout file. Installed Captivate 7 from CD, downloaded and installed the patch 7.0.1 and now get an error message "Theme file copying failed. Try manually copying Adobe Captivate these files from "...." to "...." I did this, but I continue to get this error. I've uninstalled and reinstalled 3 times. What else can I do?
Did you do this?
Excerpt from the release notes --
Important: Before using Adobe Captivate 7.0.1, ensure that you make a backup of the Layouts folder and delete it.
Layouts folders are present at:
Windows: C:\Users\Public\Documents\Adobe\eLearning Assets\
Mac OS: /Users/<user account>/Documents/My Adobe Captivate Projects/

I have just installed Captivate 7 but I can't get Help to load, any ideas?
I have just installed Captivate 7 but I can't get Help to load, any ideas?
Hi hazelplt,
When you say you can't load does that mean Captivate does not launch?
Try launching the application as 'Administrator' and check.
You might also want to check by launching it in 'compatibility mode' and see.
In case you still face issues, try resetting Captivate preferences and then check by launching the application.
To reset the preferences, please follow the steps below :
Close Adobe Captivate.
Locate the preference folder:
Windows Vista and Windows 7: C:\Users\[user name]\AppData\Local\Adobe\Adobe Captivate 7 folder
Rename the Captivate folder.
Restart Adobe Captivate. A new folder is automatically created. -
Recording without installing captivate
Hi,
I'm working for a big customer that has a very restricted
environment regarding security. It is very complicated and time
consuming to install captivate in the PC that has access to the
application we have to capture (We have to ask IT department,
etc...).
Additionally every time I need to capture screens from a
different application I have to reinstall everything again because
we have to use a different PC.
Anyone can help me and tell me if there is any way to run
captivate capture functionality (or any other application) from a
CD without installing anything in the PC?.
Thanks in advance.
Xavier.Hello Xavier,
No, sorry. Because Captivate includes files that have be
written to the Windows registry, I don't think that there is any
way that you can run Captivate directly off a CD. I've used many
screen capture programs in the past and never managed to find one
that I can use in this manner.
Historically, what I have done is to network the two machines
together and used Remote Control software such as
Timbuktu
Pro to capture screens.
Recently I worked a project ( for a large client) where I had
to capture screens remotely using
VNC, unfortunately due to the
way Captivate and VNC interact this mean't that manual capture
(using Print Screen) would not work, so probably not the best
solution.

Mark
