Installing CC on another Drive

Hi,
I have read several posts and have yet to find a solution for a complete CC install on another drive other than "C"
I have an SSD 168 GB Drive of which Windows and CC take a TON of space for. This has rendered my machine virtually useless because there is no swap space left. I need to be able to install CC to any specified drive (understanding that there will be some shared files on C). My CS5 install is on a dedicated SSD Drive (for speed in loading) and I would like to do the same with CC.
Are there updated instructions for deploying the CC Suite to a specified drive..? as none are being presented when I do an install.
Thanks!
Rittic

This has rendered my machine virtually useless because there is no swap space left.

And you can set the default install folder once the CC app is installed, you know...

When I choose Restart in Yosemite it shows my 10.6.8 hard drive. But when I click Restart in 10.6.8 it does NOT show my Yosemite drive. I used to know how to get the startup screen that showed multiple drives but I've forgotten it. How do I do that?

    Press Option at startup.

  • HT1926 How do I install itunes to another drive, other than drive C

Please help; I would like to install iTunes in my "new volume E" folder and it automatically installs in drive C. I don't see an option to change destination folder or an advanced option. ty

If your library is properly self-contained then app updates should be saved in the iTunes Media folder. See Make a split library portable for details.
The other main issue will be device backups which are stored on whichever drive is hosting your profile, normally C:
    Relocate MobileSync Backup folder
You can redirect <Profile>\<AppData>\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup to a folder on another drive using NTFSLink (shell ext., might only work on XP) or Junction (cmd line tool).
In essence you move the existing folder to a new location, create an empty folder where the old one used to be, then get the operating system to link the two together and silently redirect any file operation on the old location through to the new one.

  • About moving an installed system to another drive.

In the future, I intend to move my install from my very small 9.2gb disk, to a considerably larger one (freshly formatted disk).  What is the best way to do this?  I know there's some way to back up files, but I have a hard time finding this...anyway, I'm just clueless as to what I would do to accomplish any of this.  And what if, just what if I tried to move this from the current ext3 to a Reiser 4?
Question:  Best way to transfer whole system to another drive.  Also, what was that command for backing up the system I know I've seen before, but have a hard time finding every time I think about it.
    Thanks alot!

Using tar vs using cp. There is some info in the forums you just have to dig a few months back. Also google will spit a lot of links if you ask it gently ;-)
Previous versions of the Mini How-To stated that you could also use tar to copy the disk, but this method was found to have a bug.
I have no idea it this is still true but I'm always using cp to move data from one disk to another. Just don't copy /dev, /proc and /sys - they should be recreated and use verbose option with cp.

  • How do i install itunes on another drive other than c

I would like to install itunes on a drive other than c drive in a fresh install to keep it free from my operating system.Itunes is not currently installed on my computer, so i dont need to transfer anything or move anything and i dont want to put itunes on a external hard drive as i just simply want to do a fresh install on a drive other than c drive. Can itunes accomodate me in this simple task.

Install it normally, launch it with the Shift key held down, and create a new library on the desired drive. The iTunes application contains system components and therefore must be installed on the drive or partition containing the OS.

  • Can I install Mavericks on another drive?

I'd like to install Mavericks on a second internal drive, a clone of my main drive, to check it out before i use it on my main drive. How is this done?

I have installed 10.9 on an external hard drive, started it and played around a bit.  Pretty cool.
My question: I copied the 10.9.1 update dmg to the external drive.  Can I safely update to 10.9.1 after booting Mavericks on that drive?  I don't want to mess up my 10.8.5 system.

  • Everything caving in after installing Leopard on another drive . . .

. . . and everything is imploding. Apps on my 10.4.11 partition are not functioning as they did or should. If I leave the machine for less than a minute it locks up. But then sometimes it doesn't. Today, I finally got a crash report to send to Apple. But we all know as I have been told by Apple that they don't read them.
Here's the message that comes up after restart. Anyone with a translation, it will be greatly appreciated. Please no chiming in, just to chime in. Thank you.

I always do zero out erases with DU before installing. It seems to make the install more stable. At least in the beginning and until recently mentally satisfying that only the new install files were the ones there. And this Settings and Trash thing I have experienced not only lately from Tiger to Leopard, but for a long while Tiger to Tiger, Leopard to Leopard and Leopard to Tiger. Always, whatever trash and Spotlight settings that are in the last used OS transfer over, even though I am installing from a source (DVD) that as nothing in common with the source of the trash and settings. Apple (even though you don't "really" watch these boards) Why?! This makes me wonder with this simple level of cross-contamination what else is happening and is it only during install or during operation does 10.5.x go in search for prey?
AND what is the use of the Migration Assistant in the OS when it won't let you migrate your, my main, user if it has the same name as your new install. So what's the point. And before ya all point and say that the cross-contamination is coming from migrating. It's there waiting for you before you get a chance to even think of migrating. AND in a couple of experiments I have seen that not everything migrates when doing it as you install. Whereas, it seem to when using the standalone in the OS. Which it use to be the opposite.
I really miss OS9 and the ease of updating, migrating and just plain (no repairing permissions) trouble free use. AND the ability to really trick (trash) it out and it cruised without incident. This new trouble-free (as per an Apple Dev Rep) OS is more trouble than it should be. Way more.
I predict that the next 10.5 updater will be a large one also. Still holes to be filled.
Right now I am in a new install of 10.5 that I brought up to 10.5.2 before doing anything. I am installing each app as I need and running for awhile. So far clean, no freezes. But back in 10.4.x, if left idle for just a second it freezes.
Now to leave this 10.5.2 install for a bit to see if it will freeze. Oh I did a migration of the very simple and clean 10.4.11 that I thought I would have to do to get a new unfreezing OS. But since it froze right after install, I knew I was doomed. So I set it up with just the basics and migrated them to Leopard as an experiment to see if it is any of my apps that are the culprits. So far NO freezes over 12 hours.
    So . . . . +strange things are afoot at the Circle K tonight.+

  • How do I install FF on a drive other than Win 7?

I'm trying to conserve space on my SSD (small) and just have the OS (Win 7) on that drive. So how do I install FF on another drive, as so many of my other application programs are stored? They work great without any hitches, so far. . . But I would still like to try this with FF and Thunderbird. Thanks.

I re-installed XP and kept the old program files on another drive, how can I transfer my bookmarks list to the new Firefox ?
I tried shifting the Profile folder contents from the old to the new, that seemed to work but I kept getting a message that my security was affected and that the problem could be in that folder so I shifted it back.

    Hello Kencrews,
When you connect the iPod to the computer and iTunes is authorized for your Apple ID, then you will get a prompt to transfer the purchases from the device to the computer. Keep in mind this will only transfer purchased items from the iTunes Store.
Here is a helpful article to assist getting that done.

  • I want to triple boot Have Snow Leopard and XP on separate drives and I want Windows 7 on another drive, can it be done by temporarily removing the xp drive and installing windows 7 on another internal drive?

I want to triple boot my Mac Pro I have Snow Leopard and XP on separate drives (osx on drive 1, xp on drive 2) and I want Windows 7 on another drive (drive 4, drive 3 is used by osx for storage), can it be done by temporarily removing the xp drive and installing windows 7 on drive 4?
I realise bootcamp only allows 2 operating systems and refit could change the size of my current xp drive to accomodate W7, that is not an option here for various reasons one being the drive is pretty much at capacity with only about 30gig free (I work with video so that free space fluctautes quite a bit). I have a brand new drive 4 with 1TB set aside ready for W7 but I'm unsure how to go ahead?
any help or advice would be really appreciated, thanks

Boot Camp is used to support Windows on the same drive.
You can have a different OS on every drive.
You could have Windows 7, Vista, and XP all on one drive if you so choose.
I recommend not putting Windows and OS X on the same dirve when talking about Mac Pro - unless you just need something small and lite.
Remove all your other drives while you install Windows 7.
You could even relocate XP - if you need it even - or recover the hard drive space.
You should always keep 30% free for Mac OS; same for data/media drives.
Considering 1.5TB WD Black $110.... and you want OS X to be on a fast high performance drive as well.

  • How do you upgrade OS X server 4.0 to another drive after installing on primary drive

I've upgraded OS X Server to version 4.0 after installing the Yosemite OS X. As usual, the server does not work properly after the upgrade. I've installed Yosemite on another boot drive to rebuild the system. I'm trying to upgrade the new install of Yosemite to the Server 4.0 version but when clicking the upgrade button, it just sits there with the wheel spinning. Has anyone seen this and how can I get the copy downloaded again to install version 4.0 of OS X Server?

I appreciate both of your prompt replies. According to the following support page (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107037), I only needed OS X 10.1 or later (more specifically, it says that 10.0.X or earlier cannot be upgraded without erasing). This page was directly referenced by this page (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301270) which is on the very post that Ferd referenced ("10.4 Tiger Upgrade: Decision tree+Checklist" at http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=121773). I can find nothing on official Apple websites that says anything about needing OS X 10.2 to upgrade to 10.4. The bottom line is that most of my harddrive is consumed with my music (approx 15 MB) and there is no convenient way for me to back it up or move it without buying an external hard drive. It just seems absurd to me that in order to use my new $300 iPod that I need to both invest $120 in new software and then another $100-200+ in an external hard drive so that said new software can be installed over my existing data. It's really bad enough that Apple gives you no charger and no case for the iPod, charges you for new software versions, and then makes their new software so incompatible that you have to erase your hard drive just to install it. Exactly why do people love their Macs over their PCs? If I have to buy an external hard drive, why shouldn't I simply take all my data off of my iBook and be done with Macs forever?

  • Possible to Install Logic 9 Content onto Another Drive?

I am using a small 60GB SSD drive, but I also have a larger drive inside the Mac. is it possible to install the additional content onto another drive? Otherwise I won't be able to use Logic 9 at all. Lame. :-(
    Thanks in adva

I have the install DVD's but it only allows me to install the apple sound effects to the other drive. Believe it or not, I have now attempted to download it from the app store because it's smaller. I've seen some posts on YouTube about moving the files and I might try their techniques but I'm at a loss as to what to do.

  • Can i install to another drive? 3GB install is ridiculous

my PowerBook's drive has been partitioned into multiple drives for ages ... the 'boot' partition is 8GB, as dictated by the "old 8GB max" issue.
that said, i've been happily humming along with ~ 1.5-2GB free on that drive forever.
i now note that iWork6 requires 3Gb free! of which MOST are resource files ...
is there a way to install -- all or some of the files -- to another drive? if the installer's not that 'smart', then perhaps using symlinks?
if not, then am i really faced with having to reformat/repartition this drive jusst to install a word processor?
    thx.

The first to posters to this thread made reference to the 8GB boot partition limitation. Both those posters indicate that they have G4 machines (in their system profile information). The 8GB limitation applied only to some of the early G3 Macs. If that's the only reason you have a bunch of smaller drive partitions (each with not enough space to accomplish much of anything), you might consider "thinking different" the next time an opportunity arises to reformat your drive, and consolidate the free space that's currently fragmented by your partitioning scheme.
