Installing color Laserjet 3600 driver on Windows 7 machine

When I installed the drivers from the HP website for my color laserjet 3600n printer, it does not show up as "Printer and Faxes" it show up below as "Unspecified".  It then is not recognized as a printer, and I am unable to acess the device.  It also cannot be deleted for a new install.

mikeg1,
I am sorry, but to get your issue more exposure I would suggest posting it in the commercial forums since this is a commercial printer. You can do this at http://h30499.www3.hp.com/hpeb/ .
I hope this helps.

  • I need a print driver for the HP Color LaserJet 3600 for OS X 10.8.3

Now that I have updated to the newest OS I'm frustrated because neither Hewlett Packard nor Apple has a driver for the printers that I have.  So I can't print from my laptop to any of my printers.  I just need a driver option for and HP Color LaserJet 3600, Canon MF5900 Series, and a Hewlett Packard CP1518.

  • HP Color LaserJet 3600 series (VISE Installer)

    Hi everyone,
I made the mistake of using the VISE Installer that HP suggests as a download for the HP Color LaserJet 3600 series printer. I installed it, and then couldn't figure out why I still couldn't see this printer driver. After reading http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303057#hpdrivers and learning that the "driver" included for the Color LaserJet 3600 is not a "Modern Driver", I realized that installing the VISE installer from HP does me no good.
    Now, I have two questions:
    1) How can I uninstall this stuff that HP crammed onto my system? The VISE Installer seems like its a blast from the pre-OS X past, and doesn't appear to offer any sort of uninstallation. Do I need to write up a shell/AppleScript to read the log it writes to my / and remove the files manually? (I'd rather not do that, but I will if I have to).
    2) Is there a PPD that anyone knows of for this printer? I'd like to be able to print to it over our network, and I need a "Modern driver" (i.e. PPD) to do that.
    Thanks dudes!
    MacBook Pro 15.4"   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

To get a modern driver, you'll have to install a few open source packages. Try hpijs and ESP ghostscript from here:
    http://www.linuxprinting.org/macosx/hpijs/
(I think you have to use the 3500 model choice/PPD).
If that doesn't work, you'll have to compile the driver:

  • Color LaserJet 3600 and 10.6 over wireless (Broadcom Wireless Chipset)

Checking the archives, I've found that I'm not the only person who has experienced problems printing to a Color LaserJet 3600 via wireless. Those threads were archived with no solution so I couldn't reply, but I wanted to expand on what I discovered.
It is not so much Mac OS X 10.6, but the way HP's horrible host-based printing drivers are tied to the wireless. I've discovered that laptops with 10.6 that are also using the newer Broadcom BCM43xx chipset will garble their print command, causing the print queue to mess up on the host machine, and the printer to become unresponsive to all other machines (it perpetually thinks there's something in the queue, so no other print commands will go through.) The three laptops I tested were the unibody aluminum 13" MacBook Pro, unibody aluminum 15" MacBook Pro, and the plastic unibody 13" MacBook; all with clean installs of 10.6.2. All three laptops have the same printing error.
Laptops with the Atheros 5416 chipset work fine, even with 10.6. Laptops tested with this chipset were the aluminum 15" MacBook Pro, aluminum 17" MacBook Pro, and the white MacBook.
This is not any fault of Apple, it is HPs abysmal host-based printing system. The solution to this problem until HP updates their printer drivers is to use the open source HPIJS drivers (HP drivers for the Linux Foundation Open Printing.) You'll need HPIJS, Foomatic-RIP, and Ghostscript; all installers are listed and come with uninstallers should any unexpected errors occur.
I don't know Apple's policy on linking to external websites, but a simple Google search for HPIJS will give the desired link.
This may be a good solution for 10.4 and 10.5 clients working across subnets, as the HPIJS drivers can be used via simple LPD/LPR instead of the HP IP Printing System that relies on mDNS.
Once installed, when you type in the IP address of your Color LaserJet 3600, you'll be presented with the option of choosing the HPIJS driver.
Additionally, if you use the HP drivers for the LaserJet 3600 over both wired and wireless network, you must add the printer while on the wireless network only; it is important that you disconnect the ethernet cable. If you add the printer while using a wired connection, the printer will not work over wireless; however, if you add the printer while on a wireless connection, the printer will work on either wireless or wired.
Yes, the HP host-based drivers are that ridiculous.

Unfortunately 10.6.3 did not fix the problem.
I've also, unfortunately, found out that the HPIJS will also eventually fail to print.
This is beyond frustrating since we invested several thousands of dollars in these printers and we can't use them.

  • Very slow printing Illustrator CS3 to HP Color Laserjet 3600

    Howdy!
OS X 10.5.8 G5 dual 2.0. Printer is connected via Ethernet. I've created new printers using Bonjour, IP address, and HP IP printing under Other...
Illustrator hangs upwards of ten minutes with a beachball at the "Printing Page:" window, before the file shows up in the print queue.
Illustrator is printing fine to all my other printers, (hp Deskjet & 2 Epson Pro 4000's) and all my other apps print to the HP Color Laserjet 3600 nice and speedily. If I reboot, it takes about 45 seconds on the first print, then back to 10 + minutes, after that.
Happens with any Illustrator file. I've created several new files, both RGB and CMYK. Acrobat will print these files nice and speedily. I can place them in InDesign, and it prints them nice and speedily.
CS2 also hangs in the same fashion.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks!

I don't know if this is related, but...
My MacBook Pro (Airport) has always been dicey connecting to an HP LaserJet 4000 on my wired LAN. Before Snow Leopard, I used AppleTalk rather than IP printing because it just worked.
But Snow Leopard doesn't support AppleTalk any more, so I reinstalled the printer to connect via JetDirect (which supposedly provides more features). When it works, it works fine. But very often I get a message that it can't connect to the printer. The only thing I've found that fixes the problem is power-cycling the printer, which somehow enables queued jobs to print. Needless to say, this gets old.
Is there some trick I'm missing?

  • HP Color LaserJet 3600(not 3600n) with Fast Ethernet port - can I use it?

Hello! There is a HP Color LaserJet 3600 in our company connected via USB with XP-based PC. Recently I decided that we need this printer be shared directly trough our ethernet network, so I started to learn manuals - its own manual, Jet Direct, and all that stuff. The printer's manual says that HP Color Laserjet 3600 does not have neither its own ethernet port, nor support for embedded print-server like JetDirect 620n.
    But!
Visual check  shows that this HP 3600 DOES have its own ethernet port and if I connect it to network or at least to a notebook - it blinks like any other ethernet port with "lights" should do.
    However.
Neither front panel, nor back panel says anything about network support(like letter "n" in model name).
Configuration page print also does not know about that mysterious port.
    So my questions are:
    1. What is this port actually?
    2. Can I use it to share printer over network? Maybe, there is a way to upload 3600n's firmware somehow?

The product you have seems to be a commercial printer. For the best chance at finding a solution I would suggest posting in the forum for HP Business Support!

Should I install photoshop elements 10 on a windows vista machine in the "Program Files" or "Program Files (x86)" folder.  I am running 64 bit on the machine.  Thanks for the help

It depends on which version of Windows Vista you have.  Program Files (x86) is designed for 32-bit applications and Program Files is for 64-bit when using a 64-bit OS.  http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-files/programs-files-vs-program -files-x86/7d631676-e688-472a-a1bb-eefccfeca6d7

  • Is there a univeral printer driver for HP Color LaserJet CM1312 MFP on Windows 7 64 bit?

I had bought a HP Color LaserJet CM1312 Multifunction Printer last year - up to now I could print out via the computer of my doughter (Windows XP), but now this computer is bugged and I would like to be able to use also my own Windows 7 64 bit Computer. Unfortunately the "Full solution" does not work at all, while there also appears to be no Universal Printer Driver for my special printer. In other words: I can´t use the printer and I am upset (HP at its best?).
Is there any way to get a printer driver that does what it is supposed to do?

  • Windows 2008 Server and HP Color LaserJet 2605dn Driver Issue when Sharing Printer

I have a HP Color LaserJet 2605dn printer that I need to setup on a Windows 2008 server.  I need the server to act as a Print server, but I have been unable to get any drivers to load other than the 64 Bit Universal drivers.  Because most of the company uses XP (32 and 64 bit), I also need to load those drivers under additional drivers; however, I have been unable to load them, when I point to the INF file (any of the 10 that unzip from the driver package), it says it is not for this printer.  I have even tried the generic 32 bit PS and it says the same thing.  Any ideas on what I am doing incorrectly or where to get the drivers that I need?
    Thanks,
    Gary

Hello, I have the same problem. For the 2605 Printer is only the universal print driver available. Is seems that HP is to be lazy about making new 2008 driver.

  • Can't install Color Laserjet Pro MFP M177fw

I'm having trouble installing the drivers for my new Color Laserjet Pro MFP M177fw AIO printer.  I'm using a Sony Vaio VPCX118LG running Windows 7. I initially successfully installed the software from the disk provided some weeks ago, and had the printer running satisfactorily.  About 3 weeks ago, I attempted unsuccessfully to install Office 2013 on the 32 system, and finally gave up trying and went back to Office 2010.  Since about that time, I've been unable to use either of my M177s (I have two printers in my two offices in different cities; the one in Sydnay is working fine with my HP Pavilion desktop up there, but now won't work with my laptop, as won't the other identical printer in Canberra). I've tried uninstalling the software (using the Uninstall utility on the disk provided with the printer) and reinstalling.  The install process seems to be proceeding normally but at about 99% complete stops with a message about a "Fatal Error".  When monitoring the process using the Windows dialogue, the failure appears to coincide withthe installation of the last driver (after the Scan, Fax, USB Printer, etc...the one called, "HP Color Laserjet Pro MFP m177fw"). I've tried downloading the installation files and drivers from the HP website and installing from the disk provided, but neither method works. Can someone there offer any help, please? Claude

Hi ,  I think it's time to take the proverbial gloves off.  I suggest you try a selective start up on your PC working directly with MSCONFIG to try and determine what, if any Windows service or program is interfering with your ability to install the drivers.  Here's how:   Click on the Start menuIn the 'search programs and files' box right above Start, type msconfig and hit enter on your keyboardWhen the System Configuration Window opens click 'Selective Startup' and uncheck Load Startup ItemsClick the Services tab. Check the box at the bottom for Hide All Microsoft ServicesSelect Disable AllSelect Apply and OKRestart your computer when promptedAfter you reboot, try the install again.  If you're able to finish the setup we can safely assume there is a background program or service on your computer blocking the install. You will need to enable one service at a time on your computer to locate the program that's blocking your printer from printing.   Here's how to undo the above-noted MSCONFIG steps:  Click the Start icon.In the 'search programs and files' box right above Start, type msconfig and hit enter on your keyboardWhen the System Configuration Window opens click 'Normal Startup'Click Apply and OKRestart your computer as prompted.  If this approach falls short I recommend you reach out to our tech support team.
