Installing Color Profile into Aperture

How do you add a color profile into the printing options in Aperture 3? The existing output list is not as comprehensive as what you find in Photoshop. I want to add the NikonAdobe color profile to the list.

ICC profiles should go in either
System/Library/ColorSync/Profiles
or
Some installs of Snow Leopard look in
User/Library/ColorSync/Profiles

  • How do I get a custom color profile into a PDF?

I have a client who provided a custom color profile for a CMYK file.
I worked on Photoshop CS5.1 images and made sure the profile is embedded.
I placed these Photoshop images into an Illustrator CS5.1 template and made sure the profile is embedded.
I need to create a hires PDF with the Press Quality settings from the Illustrator file.
I have been doing a Save As to PDF from Illustrator, which seems to work.
OK, that's when my troubles start.... When I go into Acrobat Pro X v10.0.0 nothing indicates my profile is there.
I even have the profile loaded into Acrobat.
The client seems to want the Paper Simulation to show their profile, but the profile does not even come up in the list when I look for it. It seems to default to RGB even though this is a CMYK file.
I messed this up once already, and I need to get it right this time.
The client is in Germany and they sound very angry when they don't get the proper files.
    Help!

  • Using alternative color profiles in Aperture

I have used many RAW Programs in the past. Now it is Aperture's turn. I have been a Mac user since 1994 and I am glad to see a program like Aperture.
My question is about Alternate Color Profiles. I have not figured out how to use an alternate color profile for the images in Aperture. This can be done in PhotoShop, Capture One, and DPP for Canon. I have many wide gamut profiles I like to work with.
My work around it to export the image to PhotoShop and apply the wider gamut profile to the image. I noticed that Aperture exports the image in Adobe RGB (1998). By doing so Aperture has already pared down the size of the color gamut of the image.
How can I set Aperture to work in or export images in a wider gamut color profile?
    Thanks,
    Rob Eckert

    Setting your colorspace in Aperture
In contrast with Adobe Photoshop, you don't have to set your "workspace." Instead, Aperture will always work in a wide gamut, except for when you apply Onscreen Proofing, which shows you how your work should look in final output.
Perhaps the Onscreen Proofing feature will do what you want.

  • Install color profile

    Hi there,
How do I install new color profiles? I'm developing on an OS X Server and I need to export PDFs with specific color profiles. I copied the new profiles to "/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Color/Profiles" and created a joboptions file, that uses the new profile. However it seems that the InDesign Server is unable to locate the new profiles (even after server restart). The exported PDFs have all the same default color profile. So, how do I export PDFs with custom color profiles?

I've read that it's possible to use Leopard color profiles in Windows 7. Does anyone know exactly how to do this? The only thing I can find in the windows 7 control panel is to manually calibrate the display.

  • Color Profiles in Aperture

When in the CS2 raw window I can simply use a drop down menu to redefine the light source and presto, it's done. I'm not fully up to speed on Aperture's editing controls hence the question, "How do I do this in Aperture?"
    Thanks,

and remember that 'neutral' means any variation of
white/grey/black. I've had great success even
clicking on 'black' areas of my images.
where the light is complex though, I get the best
results by click-n-dragging the white balance numeric
values back and forth, watching the screen carefully
to see what I would perceive to be the midpoint. mind
you, for this to work, you need a calibrated screen.
I use the Spyder2 calibrator which works pretty well,
its only inconveniences being that the software
doesn't automatically temporarily turn off the screen
saver and energy saver settings during calibration
and I usually end up calibrating more than once
    before I get it right.
incidentally, has anybody else used the ExpoDisc? I'm intrigued but the
price is a little high for a prosumer like myself,
especially when you need one for each lense
    diametre.
    (I also personally have
an argument with turning everything that presumably
is white to actual white but that's an argument for
    another day
Yes, I have an Expodisc and it works perfectly. But as you mentioned I (we) don't always want every white to be white. One of the reasons I like film is the depth of color. Digital is so sterile I have to really work to give it some personality. In a pinch the ExpoDisc just gets it over with and you can go on to your next shot.

  • Softproof and color profiles

Not all my correct installed color profiles are available in the softproof-menu 'Profile' in the development module. Why not? And how can I change that?
    Thanks.

Indeed only the CMYK and lab-profiles are missing.
    Thanks for your answer.

  • Embed color profile for Spot Multichannel

Is it possible to embed a color profile into a multichannel file made up of spot colors onlys ? More specifically can you embed custom dot gain curves into such file like you can for other color spaces like CMYK. ?

As far as I know, there is no connection or relation between gamma and dot gain.  However, if your workflow excludes print media, you do not have to indicate any type of dot gain and, therefore, can assign a particular gamma to your "video" intended image ( i.e., television graphics, powerpoint oresentation files, etc. ).  So, if you knew you are heading for a 30% dot gain ( i.e. offset press, magazine or newsprint, etc. ), then assign it in the working space dialog in PS. Again, this is my interpretation of gamma vs. dot gain.  Once you understand the dynamics of the working space ( i.e., what you typically work on day-to-day )), then it sort of makes sense.  I suppose if I were to suddenly be assigned to work on a video graphics project, I could change my gamma and eliminate dot gain because there is none.  I'd just have to remember to go back and re-assign dot gain for my print projects.  If, for instance, I was chosen to design a logo graphicv for a TV news program, perhaps a gamma of 2.2 would help the appearance of the color's brightness on screen.  It comes down to the final application of the file itself.  That's my take on it.

  • A general question about JPGs, color profiles and the web.

(Didn't get much help in the PS forum, so I'm gonna try this here.)
I save a website background image  in Photoshop with its color profile (in this instance, Adobe RGB 1998).
When I view the image in IE  (latest), it looks the same as it did in PS.
When I view it in Firefox  (latest), it comes out darker.
I'm guessing this has something to do with  one of the two browsers taking the color profile into account, and the  other not.
What  is everyone's solution to this problem? Should I not be including color  profiles with my JPGs? And if that isn't the problem (ie, I should keep  doing it), which is the color profile I should be using in RGB?
I keep  hopping between Adobe RGB (1998) and sRGB 2.1 and can't decide which one  to adopt once and for all.
    Thanks.

You are correct. The colors differ from IE to FF because FF and Safari use the color profiles found in your images.

  • Aperture 2 Color Profiling....please help

    Hi
I have a MBP and aperture...I did the following setup
    1) Calibrated my Monitor with a spyder (used gamma2.2 and neutral)
I doubled on this website that the calibration is ok
    http://www.drycreekphoto.com/Learn/monitor_calibration.htm
    2) on Aperture 2, I post processed my RAW file (5DmarkII) and I made sure that onscreen
proofing is checked and the proofing profile is sRGB-IEC61996-2.1
    3) After I am done, I noticed that when I export the photos (using sRGB), some color are slightly different than what I see on Aperture for example a slighty satured blue turned a little purplelish
Any ideas how to have those colors in sync ?? Am i doing something wrong
    Your help is very appreciated
    Thanks
    Vadim

you may have already explored this:
What is your export color profile? It could be different than your onscreen which could explain this issue you are having.

  • Aperture 3 embedded color profile bug still unsolved (worked in Ap 2)

RE: Aperture 3.x cannot display images with certain color profiles embedded. This bug was reported
on March 11, but is still unsolved and basically makes Aperture 3 unusable for my large collection
of scanned slides which have a special color profile embedded. Viewer and sometimes Browser turns
    either black or go haywire.
    What is it about:
When you scan slides with a scanner, you can generate a special color profile so that the image
looks good and you can then embed this profile in the scanned tiff and jpeg images. Most pro applications honor the embedded profile and display the image correctly. In our case, we
generated a special profile named Nikon-LS5000 (it was tested for correctness!):
    1) It worked fine in Aperture 2.x
    2) It never worked in Aperture 3.x
    3) It does not depend on the Operating System (i.e, the bug manifests itself in 10.6.2, 10.6.3 and now in 10.6.4)
    4) It is no question of a special Mac Model (the bug shows on iMacs, ibook profs, and iMacs 2010)
    5) It is irrelevant whether you start Aperture 3 in 32-bit or 64-bit mode
    6) It shows with jpegs or tiffs, no matter
    7) Preview.app or Photoshop CS4 display the images correctly!
    8) If one changes the embedded profile via PS CS4 to sRGB or ProPhoto, Aperture 3 works (but the
image then has radically different colors - so no solution!)
    9) The conclusion is that something affecting the processing of (some?) embedded color profiles has radically changed from Aperture 2 to Aperture 3.
I put a few jpegs with embedded color profiles and screenshots of how Aperture 3 behaves on the Picasa web:
    http://picasaweb.google.com/114939413495021552399/TestapertureBilder#
you are invited to download the jpeg- images and retry in your ownAperture 3 Library.
Maybe together we can find out what causes this bug which is very annoying for any
    serious photographer.

I have put the test material on another server - you can download a
zipped folder (Aperture3profilebug.zip) of all test images AND the color profile from
    https://depot.uni-konstanz.de/get/txau69
with any browser. (The problem was that the Picasa Software seems to strip the color profiles from
the test images, so I had to put them on another server. It will remain there until July 1).
    Regards and thanks for helping

  • Color profile problem after installing CS4

    OK.
First, let me post these side-by-side comparisons:
As you can see in Image 1 (the "before," left-side photo in each comparison), the colors and overall appearance are distorted. I've read things about gamma but it's all confusing to me. This is surely a color profile problem, right? The transition among pixels that involve colors of yellow and gray is rocky, grainy, and the flat out color is just wrong. Now this color problem affects pictures when opened in both Photoshop 7.0 and the standard Windows Photo Viewer. Meaning, whenever I open pictures in both PS 7.0 and Windows Photo Viewer (my default viewer), this color problem totally messes up certain photos and really damages my ability to edit. I'm an avid photo editor and it's imperative I have proper color display so that I can accurately edit. Keep in mind that certain pictures do not take on this error. When a photo is generally brighter, the distortion is basically invisible. It's photos that are dark or have dark portions in them that display the distortion.
*Note: I took these before-and-after pictures with my camera, because screencapping would not work, since you all don't have the same color profile issue on your computer. That's the only way I can show you!
HOWEVER, when I open photos in another standard Windows application, "Microsoft Office Picture Manager," the color problem is magically erradicated altogether. It shows photos as I've been seeing them all along, until I installed CS4 about two weeks ago. Before installing CS4, everything was fine and I had been using Photoshop 7 for years and have never had a problem. I'm guessing CS4 messed something up. It had to have. Just FYI, I uninstalled CS4, hoping it would reverse the problem. But still, the color issue persists in PS 7 and in my regular Windows Photo Viewer.
Since images display their true form in Windows Office Picture Manager, I don't think I need to calibrate my screen. Or do I? I've read things about it, and to some people, it's not necessary. Right? Okay. I really hope someone can give some advice! Thank you!
P.S. Here's the original photo. On my screen, it looks distorted when opened in photoshop or opened w/the viewer. However, here on Firefox, it's fine.

You should try to familiarize yourself with the concepts of color management.
It's kind of too in-depth a subject to walk you through from a cold start here...  There are a lot of good resources out there to help you get started.  For example, in just a few seconds Google turned up this:
    http://www.adobepress.com/articles/article.asp?p=1315593
The one thing to remember is this:  There is NO quick solution, easy set of defaults, or direct answer to making your setup do what you want without your having to understand color management.
People may tell you to calibrate your monitors, or use a particular color profile as a default, or whatever, and they may have good, solid reasons for telling you those things, but if you don't attempt to get your mind around color management it will always seem as though something isn't working right, or is simply magic, which will be frustrating to you.
Here are some basic questions to ponder:
What image color profile is your image carrying?
Is your monitor a wide-gamut display and do you have a color profile set up for it?  What kind of monitor is it?
What version of Windows are you running?
Do you know the difference between a color-managed app and one that is not color-managed?
Which of the apps you're using/showing above are color-managed?
What are your settings in Edit - Color Settings?
Take some time and do some research, get your head around the concepts, and it will all make more sense I promise you.

  • Lens profile downloader does not install profile into LR5

I am trying to install a lens profile for a Canon 400mm 5.6 L lens into LR5. I am using the lens profile downloader 1.0.1 this did install this lens profile to my LR 4 version. It appears to install this lens profile into LR5. However when I look in the lens profile area of LR5, the Canon 400mm 5.6 L profile does not show up. I am running win7 64 bit.

Do not copy your profiles to two different places.  User-created/downloaded profiles will be ignored in the Adobe-application locations and you don't need to duplicate the Adobe-supplied profiles under the Users folder.  This ignoring of user-supplied profiles in the Adobe app folders started some time during the LR4 series.
On Windows 7/8 the following folders are used:
Adobe-supplied lens profiles for Lightroom go under the LR-version\Resources folders:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Lightroom X.X\Resources\LensProfiles\1.0
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Lightroom X.X\Resources\LensProfiles\1.0 (for 32-bit LR on a 64-bit system)
Adobe-supplied lens profiles for the Camera Raw plug-in used by PS and PSE and PRE go under a ProgramData location:
    C:\ProgramData\Adobe\CameraRaw\LensProfiles\1.0
User-supplied profiles either created or downloaded go under the Users location and are seen by both Lightroom and the Camera Raw plug-in:
    C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CameraRaw\LensProfiles\1.0\Downloaded
where the Downloaded folder seems to hold all the ones I have download for various camea makes and models, and I don't have to seperate them individually by camera manufacturer although it probably doesn't hurt if you have quite a few of them.

No, profile do many things. It is a color space. It allows different apps and systems to view colors the same. Also fcp typically works in a tub color space not rgb.
