Installing Combo Update If I Already Have OS X 10.8.2

Hi there!
My Macbook Pro 2011 slowed down drastically after the Mountain Lion installation (it wasn't a clean installation... just updated it straight, from Snow Leopard). I just heard about the combo update http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1581 so was wondering if this will fix the issue or it's no point since I'm already using 10.8.2... Btw, when I installed Mountain Lion the version I got was 10.8.2...
Just wondering...
Thanks!!

1) Did you uninstall using Sophos' uninstaller? Just wondering if there is something still arround.
2) What is slow about the bootup? Is it stuck on the gray screen for a while, or is it slow loading up all the programs that were left open when you restarted?
3) You might try ClamXAV for scanning those files you transfer. It can just sit there and not do anything until you want to scan those files with it. However, you might be able to set up Sophos to not be so intrusive, also.

restore your app from the trash and then properly uninstall.
if that fails, CC desktop lists applications as "Up to Date" when not installed

• App Store not letting me download free games or even let me update apps I already have!

Ok, so I tried purchasing a item in a game I have (not knowing how much I have in my bank account). App Store denied it so I'm like ok whatever I don't care. Well now whenever I try to download free apps or eve. Update apps I already have the store makes me sign in, and wants me to update my billing information because there was an error with my last purchase because it didn't go through. Ok why is it doing this? It didn't go through I don't care I just wanna update my apps and be able to download free Apps without having to update my information then apple charging for something I don't want anymore.... Can anyone tell me how to fix this? I already tried removing the card! I don't have a "none" option when I try to remove it so... Yeah

You must have a valid form of payment on your account even for updates and free apps.

Check for new 64 bit software for the modem, other wise you I'll probably have to boot your Mac in 32 bit mode first.. And then every time you want to go online.
I have the Sierra wireless 306 and have their 64 bit lion software installed. Works well.
Best.

This is it. Programming was done by idiots. People at schools IT department 20 or so full time positions know less then kids at Best Buy GeekSquad minimum wage part time, don't know or even want to call to find out. They just sit there and ask if the antivirus is upto date, I cant install your software that check the antivirus, "ITS NOT THE ANTIVIRUS". Three weeks and as always I have to find the fix myself. My god, why do I work for my money when I can just sit and collect it. Sorry for the rant.
This fix works and needs to be loaded on the campus network.

• Pro free trial downloaded but it won't install because it says I already have a superior product (Standard)?

I have Adobe Standard. I'd like a free trial of Adobe Pro because moving pages around in a 400 page document in Standard seems to be a nightmare. It says Pro downloaded but it won't install because it says I already have a superior product.

I think the point is that you have a registered product and that is being interpreted as superior. Anyway, you may have to uninstall (after deactivating) Std to look at Pro. Don't do this if you do not have a backup of the Std install file and S/N that you should have saved to a backup CD and/or backup HD.

I think it is a bug. The problem and the question keeps coming up in these columns. The suggestion from Hackintosh is correct; part of the problem relates to other versions of an App being somewhere else in your computer, maybe Time Machine.
I've searched 'More like this' and tried answers like signing out and in again, all to no avail.

Everytime I get a message saying that this software is not supported on my system. Can anyone tell me why I can't install the updates?

Hello Philly,
I believe that when you reset your ipod(command given from the computer, right?) touch WHILE the ipod was updating, It cleared the system in the middle of writing files, thus corrupting(equivalent of cutting of in the middle of a sentence) the basic running system.
I suggest you go to an apple store and ask for a technical diagonosis in person. they may offer to help if the problem is fixable. If your ipod is still under warrenty, i would guess it would be free/low cost.

• HT4906 I have a Macbook Pro w/ Lion. I recently had the hard drive wiped because of multiple problems since inception. Anyway, I don't have iPhoto now and when I went to the free Apps it won't install because it says I already have it.....what to do?

Help me reinstall Iphoto. Apple states that I already have it but since I had my hard drive wiped I don't have it and can't reinstall it...

If you're running Lion then the iPhoto version at the App Store will not work for you as it only runs on Mavericks. What version did you have before this happened?
What system came preinstalled on your MBP? If it was Snow Leopard or earlier then you should have disks that came with your MBP that iPhoto can be installed from. If it was Lion or later then you'll need to contact the App Store personnel via the link in this screenshot,
and see about getting an earlier version of iPhoto, i.e. iPhoto 9.4.3 or earlier.
Or you could upgrade your system to Mavericks for free and then purchase iPhioto 9.5.1 from the App Store.

• Cannot Install Combo Updates

A user brought in her MacBook Pro (10.6.6) for a wifi connection error she is experiencing on the UW-Whitewater campus. The wifi issue was quickly resolved. Our standard procedure is to then check for system updates with Software Update. I selected the 10.6.8 v1.1 Combo Update, but it refused to install. An error message saying the "digital signature on the update is missing or invalid" kept popping up.
I then downloaded the 10.6.8 Combo Update package directly. Every time I tried to install it would fail. The same thing happened with th 10.6.7 package. I then booted into safe mode and tried, but that did not work. Creating an admin account also did not work.
I then made a complete backup of the HD and attempted a reinstall of Snow Leopard from our install DVD. The version from the disc is 10.6.3, so I tried the 10.6.8 Combo Update package again. That failed. I downloaded the 10.6.4 Combo Update and that also failed.
I would prefer not to wipe the HD and start from scratch. Any recommendations on how to resolve this issue would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Ken

Hi Maxim,
did you download the correct Combo update: Mac OS X Update 10.4.8 Combo PPC? Currently there are 3 different ones, for PPC, Server and Intel.

• I need Adobe Flash 11.1 or higher, so why am I redirected to install 10.3, which I already have?

I need Adobe Flash Player 11.1 or higher, so why am I redirected to install Adobe 10.3, which I already have?? I tried to open a web page, which requires the flash player. It took me to the Adobe site, and I proceeded to download and install what was presented to me. When I went back to the site, the same message popped up, saying I needed Adobe 11.1 or higher. What am I doing wrong?

Hi rae8rae4,
What is the operating system and browser you are using when downloading/installing Flash Player (presumably from get.adobe.com/flashplayer)?
For reference, the current system requirements are posted here http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/tech-specs.html. If the os/browser combination is not listed, then 10.3 is offered for download.

• Since installing firefox update I no longer have a padlock displayed when on secure sites. Is this still OK?

Since installing Firefox update today, 11/11/2011, when entering secure web sites I no longer have the display of a padlock. I still have Https. I am wondering if the security of these sties is still OK.

The Statusbar is gone and the "lock" with it as of Firefox 4.0. Security information about a web page is shown by the Site Identity Button.
The old padlock could give users a false sense that a site is secure by not supplying all of the information about a site and only showed that there is a secure connection that didn't guarantee that you are connected to the right server. The Site Identity Button was introduced in Firefox 3.0 to show more complete "identity" information for HTTPS web pages.
https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Site+Identity+Button
You can add a padlock to the location bar with the Padlock add-on- https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/padlock-icon
