Installing Contribute / XP SP1

Hi there,
I'm trying to install Contribute on a Windows XP SP1 machine.
The requirement seems to be XP with SP 2.
Is there anyway I can install without a full SP2 upgrade?

Hi Mark,
The minimum system requirement for Contribute CS3 is Windows
XP SP2.
Also it is recommended to upgrade from SP1 to SP2 as
Microsoft introduced a set of security technologies that help to
improve the ability of Windows XP-based computers to withstand
malicious attacks from viruses and worms.

Baiscally if your Mini came with Lion Pre-installed new then No you can't use XP.
The Lion installed computers no longer support XP OR Vista via Apple's Boot Camp.
For one thing Apple only supported XP with SP2 in order to install it on pre Lion computers.
If the Mini had come pre-installed new with say 10.6 then you could have installed XP and still of been able to upgrade to Lion without any issues as you already have the drivers for XP installed. Lion only has the drivers for W7.

Can't install Contribute

Macbook Pro 2.53ghz
OSX 10.6.1
I currently have Creative Suite 3 Web Premium installed (with the exception of Contribute.)
I also have CS4 Production Premium installed.
Both suites purchased as digital downloads from Adobe.
I need to put Contribute on my machine now. But I'm encountering a road block when attempting to install.
I apparently have no choice but to install/reinstall shared components when attempting to install Contribute.
During the install process I keep receiving a prompt "Please insert Adobe After Effects 4 Disk."
First of all, I have no disks obviously since my suites were downloads.
Help please!

I'm sorry but I'm not able to do this. I don't have the required "Directory Utility". However, the System is set up so I am authorized to do anything on this computer already. I've downloaded many apps and have never had this problem.
Do you think there could be another cause?

I have recently upgraded my Windows computer from XP to Windows 7 and get the following message when trying to install Contribute 4
"The wizard was interrupted before Adobe Contribute 4 could be completely installed"
Does anyone have any suggestions?

This might be a good read for you.
The bottom line is, both of those versions were released way before Win 7-8 came out so they were not tested so, they may work, they may not.
You can look around in this forum but I haven't seen any workarounds for this particular issue.

However, when I purchased a new computer with Windows 7 I could not reinstall. I have spend days with Adobe support and have gotten nowhere. Does anyone out there have a suggestion?

Contribute 4 is not supported in Windows 7.To work on Windows 7, please upgrade to the latest version of Contribute.

Cannot Install SP2 - Requires SP1 before continuing

I have tried just about everything to fix this:
Through Windows Update and the Standalone package I receive a message that setup cannot continue because it needs SP1 installed first. Here is what I've tried:
CHKDSK - Good
SFC - Good
Uninstalled AV
System Readiness Toll (CheckSur) - No Errors
Installed via Windows Update and Standalone Installer
Restarted Server
Registry change to 100 to reflect SP1 being installed
msinfo32 verified SP1 listed
Reset Windows Update Components
Disabled Firewall
Administrators have full permission to Servicing Packages Folder
Turned off UAC
Malware and Virus scans
Possibly other things but I can't think of them, the update has been failing through automatic updates for 2 years now.

Cannot install Contribute 6.5 on Windows 7 Machine.

Tried installing Contribute 6.5 as an indipendent application and was able to install it but the moment it launches, it hangs and need to be closed from the Task Manager. It freezes the screen.
Tried launchin offline (disconnecting it from the internet).
Uninstalled all adobe applications and did tried with hidden admin mode.
Tried with different user as well.

Can't Recover using RnR after installing Windows 7 SP1

After I install Windows 7 SP1 on Lenovo T61 machine (64-bit), I can't recover using RnR 4.3 as it seems that RnR doesn't perform anything when I chick Restore on RnR while Windows is running or when I click ThinkVantage button while the computer is starting.
Steps the issue is found
1. Clean install Windows 7 Professional x64
2. Install Lenovo drivers & softwares including RnR 4.3
3. Install Windows 7 SP1
4. Perform a backup using RnR
5. Do something (e.g. installing a program) when perform a restoration using RnR
What should I do to resolve this issue? Thanks very much.

The firmware restore cd doesn't start, boot or anything visible on the screen, it just loads it behind the scenes, does the flashy or beepy thing.
Reboot twice and see if the at boot key commands work again using the OS X install disk, option key or command r or command option r while booting. (you never mentioned what OS X version or machine your using)
It's possible a recent firmware update occurred (software update or AppStore) and bricked your EFI, the version you get from the website download is older because they don't release it there until it's been tested in the field like on people like you.
If a newer firmware is on the machine already and it's borked, the older one your using won't load, only newer versions are accepted by the hardware.
If this is the case, your only choice is to have the logicboard replaced, I hope you have AppleCare.
You also could have made a mistake and downloaded the wrong one, so it's refusing to apply it.

Find the serial number, thus the model number and thus gives the operating system that originally came with the machine. However gives not what operating system version the boot drive was later upgraded to. Do not use older OS X verisons to repair newer verisons. It is possible to use the original operating system version installed on another boot drive to recover files from a later operating system non-booting drive.

Does the client need to install Contribute to edit their website?

I have recently started out in the website design world (feeling VERY much like Alice!), and am trying to get my head around CMS.
Starting to explore Contribute/Joomla/Wordpress and although I understand the manipulating templates/coding part of things, how does the CMS process work?
As in, at which point do you, the developer/designer, put into use Contribute, or Joomla etc for the client, and then how does the customer use it? Do they have to install Contribute at their end?
I am about to start a website for a client with a face-painting business who wants a simple 3-page site (home, gallery, contact), and wants to be able to update the gallery page. How do I start with Contribute or Joomla? I have tried to wade through the mountains of info I found online, but can't seem to find the BEGINNING!

Hey Magda,
I use Joomla myself, and about 2 years ago I felt the same way you do. I didn't understand how the CMS part of web design works. I do not know how Contributor works, but I know that in Joomla anyone can sign into an administrative "backend" where you can log in right in the web browser and edit articles and information.
So basically (in Joomla) if your website is www.genericexample.com, you would go to your web browser and type in www.genericexample.com/administrator. This will bring you to a login form, and after you log in you will be at an interface where you can edit your website content without even touching HTML or CSS. It's all WYSIWYG (but it does let you directly edit the HTML and CSS if that is what you want to do).
In Joomla you can add users and give them passwords so that your clients can update their website after you have completed it and moved on.
The interface is very simple to use.

Outlook 2003 crashes after installing Contribute 4

Has anyone experienced problems with microsoft outook 2003
after installing contribute 4? I installed contribute 4 on 6 xp
machines running office 03 and have received reports of microsoft
outlook 2003 randomly crashing. This does not occur with contribute
3 (at least it has not been reported). I uninstall contribute 4 and
the problem goes away. Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Contribute 4 uses tool bars that hook into MS office, you can
run the repair to the installer from Add/Remove Programs to remove
the toolbars if you need Contribute. Here's an earlier post you can

Install Contribute CS4 via Group Policy?

Hi,
We have just purchased some copies of Contribute CS4 and I need to deploy them via a Group Policy. Normally, I will do this with the MSI that has already been created by the manufacturer and do an administrative install (msiexec /a <productname>.msi) but there is only a WinBootstrapper.msi file for Contribute CS4.
Can anyone share with me how they have installed Contribute CS4 via Group Policy?

It is a good idea to extract the msi the deployment data point using msiexec /a {filename} (this creates an administrative installer)
Use the extracted MSI to deploy flash. (either assigned or published)
Please make sure that the user can read from the data point you place the files.

Double-click on exe icons (LV apps written in 2010), the application icon appears on taskbar then disappears (program crashes).
I have tried re-installing the exe's but doesn't fix. Is there an issue with the new LV RTE's?
Any suggestions for fix???

Have you tried making your exe into a debuggable exe? You can do this through your project build specification Advanced>>Enable Debugging. Make sure you check the box for Wait for Debugger. This means when you launch your exe you can connect to it from LabVIEW and see your block diagrams, use highlight execution, probles etc. It is quite possible that you are running into an error case while your program is loading and it is exiting.

Prompts to install Crystal 2008 SP1 each time I double-click .rpt file

Every time I want to open a report (.rpt) file from Windows Explorer, I get a message box stating:
Preparing to install...
Followed by another message box:
Please wait while Windows configures Crystal 2008 SP1
Followed by another message box:
The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-ROM or other removable disk that is not available.
Insert the 'Crystal Reports 2008 SP1' disk and click OK.
I select cancel at this point (I've already got Crystal Reports 2008 SP1 installed on my machine).
After I select cancel, the following error appears:
Error 1706. No valid source could be found for product Crystal Reports 2008 SP1. The Windows installer cannot continue.
I click OK and the report does not open.
If I start Crystal Reports itself, then select File, Open and select the report to open, it opens fine (without error).
The version of Crystal Reports (from Help, About Crystal Reports) is: Version 12.1.0.892
How can I resolve this without searching for the Crystal 2008 SP1 files (which were downloaded from the SAP/BO website).

I've seen this happen usually when Windows Office has also been installed. The installer gets confused as to what should be installed or some dependency is missing. Not sure exactly what causes it.
Go into Control and Add/Remove Programs and try doing a repair install for both CR and SP1. Then open up Explorer and click on Tools, Folder Options and then File Type. Scroll down to RPT and click on Change or Restore. Ther main be something missing from the File type association.
Be sure to do this when you are logged in as local Administrator and/or your account is also configured to be part of the Local Admin group.
