Installing  cooltools when Sun studio is installed in a non default dir

Hello all,
I have installed sun studio 12 on one node of a SPARC cluster. When installing, I did not use the default directory (/opt/SUNWspro), but I used a different one as this installation is for trial purposes only.
Now, I want to install discover, ats and all other tools that are included in the tar file. I followed the instruction on suns web page : http://cooltools.sunsource.net/cmtdt/install.html, but all the information there is based on the fact that sun studio is installed in the default directory.
Does anyone know, what should I do in order to install the tools in the proper directory? Should I specify a path in the "pkgadd" command? Please help as I am stuck at the moment.
Thanks a lot.
Yiannis

I think I found the answer myself. It is written in sun's web page:
If the Sun Studio 12 tools are installed with a different base directory, say /opt/Studio12/SUNWspro/bin, then use the option -a none in the pkgadd command. When you are prompted for the <base_dir>, enter /opt/Studio12. The tools in the SPROprfns and SPROcool packages will be installed in /opt/Studio12/SUNWspro/extra/bin.
I think this solves the problem, but in any case, please feel free to comment on this one.

Try deleting the cache associated with the App Store.
Quit the App Store if it's open.
Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Relaunch the App Store and try re downloading the app.
If that didn't help, open Sysem Preferences > Security & Privacy then select the General tab.

  • Netbeans error during Sun Studio 12 install

I am trying to install Sun Studio 12 on a SunFire X4140 running Solaris 10 5/08. When I run the ./prepare_system -s netbeans command, I get the following error,
    "Preparation failed at step netbeans."
The Sun Studio 12 [Release Notes|http://docs.sun.com/source/820-2063/release_notes.html] state:
"This failure occurs because the NetBeans installation software needs to find a compatible version of the Java runtime environment either in your search path, or at one of these explicit installation points: /usr/jdk/latest/bin/java OR /usr/jdk/jdk1.5.0_09/bin/java".
I have confirmed that "/usr/jdk/latest/bin/java" is installed- in fact it was installed by running "./prepare_system -s java". I have even changed the path to include "/usr/jdk/latest/bin" and still no go.
    Please advise.

    Hi,
I would recommend to use latest Sun Studio Express 07/08 if possible.
It is distributed as tar.bz2 archive wrapped by shell script.
If you need to install a packaged version of Sun Studio you could try next workaround:
    - find zip NetBeans 5.5.1 on you media ( should be in the folder archives-...)
    - unpack it into subdirectory /opt
However in this case you will need to check that it could be run properly (find java) by yourself.

Hmm... could you just check that you have downloaded the SPARC version of the product? I have seen zero bytes in each cluster when trying to install the "wrong" architecture. Also, there is a gotcha on Solaris 8 - you must have the SUNWbash package (which is on the companion CD for Solaris 8 I believe) otherwise your install will fail. This isn't the symptom of that problem, I'm just mentioning it ahead of time.

  • Labview wont install anything when I try to install it.

So I had labview before but i had to get rid of it to make space on my computer and i accidently deleted some files in the NI folder before i unistalled it, it didnt unstall it correctly when i went to unistall the program. I have tried everything to get rid of all the NI files on my computer including using CCleaner to try and clean out my registry. I need to reinstall Lab View but i cant since it will run the installer and then not install anything probabaly thinking its already installed.

You're probably aware of this already, but Windows is quite fond of hiding things from users.
Do you have explorer set to show hidden files and folders?
There is also National Instuments program data stored in C:\ProgramData\National Instruments that is normally hidden.
Also some in C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\National Instruments
And personal settings stored in C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\National Instruments
    and C:\Users\%username%\Documents\LabVIEW Data
All of these locations are normally hidden when browsing for files to protect the user from themself.

  • Install/Uninstall of Sun Studio 12... kinda sorta doesn't work.

    Hi !
I'm installing DBI.pm [inside a zone] using cpan from blastwave. It needs cc and make so I installed SS 12.
Then I found out that the CLI installer doesn't installed into the zones, and that you have to use the graphical one.
So , I got in thru my KVM-over-ip and ran the graphical installer.
Now the weird part is, the section of the installer where it asks you which components you'd like to install, nothing is checked off, and the interface wouldn't let me check anything off...
So then I thought , maybe I need to uninstall it and start fresh, so I upgraded to JDK 1.6 just in case and then followed the instructions in this document
    http://developers.sun.com/sunstudio/documentation/ss12/release_notes.html
However, every time I run java on the uninstaller, I get the exception that is mentioned, and that's why I upgraded to jdk 1.6 ahead of time..
    sandbox# java -cp . uninstall_Sun_Studio_12ea -nodisplay
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: uninstall_Sun_Studio_12ea
    sandbox#
Every time. So I'm stumped. And all I want is DBI.pm ;) Help would be great, thanks folks.

  • My ipad2 won't let me install apps , when I trie to install an app it says waiting but there is no loading circle on the top of my screen , please help ! ?

I tried to install the new update for minecraft pocket edition then all of a sudden it won't load ! It said "waiting" for almost an hour ! Nothing will load :( , then I tried to delete the app and re- install it , still the same problem :( . I turned my iPad off and on then restarted it still no hope ! . I thought it was just the app so I tried installing another 1 but it had the same problem . I was going to reboot it but that would mean loosing my stuff so I tried to back it up using iCloud but when I tapped "back up now " it won't load either !! Please help , I'll appreciate it loads thanks you !!

Rebooting will not make you lose any content. Rebooting is when you hold the home button and the sleep button down at the same time until the Apple logo appears on the screen.
You can these suggestions. One might work for you.
Make sure that you do not have a stalled download in iTunes - a song or podcast .... if you have a download in there that did not finish, complete that one first. Only one thing can download at a time on the iPad so that could be what is causing the problem.
If that doesn't work - sign out of your account, restart the iPad and then sign in again.
Settings>Store>Apple ID. Tap your ID and sign out. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Go back to Settings>Store>Sign in and then try to update again. Tap one waiting icon only if necessary to start the download stream.

  • ITunes 11.0 won't install correctly when I try to install it

So, I've had multiple problems with this now, first it wouldn't update and gave me an error message saying "Error writing to file:
C:\ProgramData\188F432-103A-4ffb-80F1-36B633C5C9E1\x86\x86\GEARAspiWDM.sys. Verify that you have access to that directory"
And at one point, I opened iTunes in the new form while that error message was still up and played a bit of music.
I exited the installer and opened iTunes again, this time it said that my Library file was "created in a newer version" so therefore wouldn't open.
So I uninstalled the original version and tried installing again. It didn't work and gave me the same message.
THEN, I went into the ProgramData folder and just deleted that file, then tried reinstalling. This time, the message it gave me was "An error occured while attempting to create the directory: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows"
And that folder I can't delete. So, I'm at an impass with iTunes.
I could just let it sit like that and not be able to sync my iPod or get help and I've chosen to let it sit 'till I get help.
Now, if an image is going to be helpful, I will provide one of the error.
So, I was trying to install the update...: Apple Support Communities

  • How do I re-install iMovie when it was pre-installed on the iMac and no disks were in the box?

    Hi,
I purchased my iMac in August 2011. It came pre-installed with iMovie and other iLife applications. Recently I have had some issues with iMovie (it crashes on start-up) and i came to the conclusion to try a re-install.
However as it was pre-installed and no disks were provided i'm a little confused how, without purchasing it again in the Mac App store. I have looked in the Mac App store in Purchases and iMovie or no other iLife apps appear there. So i know if i purchase it again i will be charged.
Can any one help - or has had this problem in the past?
Note: I am running Moutain Lion now but when it was purchased it had Snow Lepoard installed and as soon as I booted it up i installed Lion as i was given a free copy by Apple when i bought the Mac. If this helps anything.
    Cheers,
    Tim

    Hi Ralph,
I live in the UK and i have called apple support but it is all automated and as i don't have apple care they said that i would need to open an incident which would cost £35. iMovie on the Mac App store is only £10.50!
do you know of another way of contacting them for an issue like this? is there anyone i can speak to on an online chat?

  • Cluster validation stating an update needs to be installed, but when checked, it's installed...Answers???

I'm setting up a simple, two node, cluster in Server 2012R2.  When doing the Validation test it states that the updates on one of my nodes is not up to date.  However, upon further investigation, I've found that most, if not all, updates the
test is telling me needs to be installed are installed.  I have two other clusters that are set up the same way, the validation test came up good across the board and they have linked up nicely, but this one will not perform correctly.  The only
difference between the three is the updates showing out of sync on the one cluster.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
So the Clusters are fully patched and also running UR1 and did a reboot ?
and the updates are installed as shown in the update manger list.
what you could do is stop the Update service and delete the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder.
When starting the services it will recreate the folder ;-) then reboot the cluster and start validation.

  • Installing iMovie when I didn't install it before...?

When I installed my Tiger, I opted not to install iMovie, much to my chagrin. I was wondering if by inserting the setup CD I could then obtain iMovie without losing anything from my computer?
    Please help!

kato, Welcome to the discussion area!
iMovie is not included with Tiger. See www.apple.com/macosx/techspecs
    iMovie is part of iLife.
iMovie is also bundled on the restore disc(s) for many Macs. The information in "KB 42995, Macintosh Restore DVD: How to install iMovie, iPhoto, or iTunes using Mac OS X Software Install" may help you out.
