Installing CS2.3 on Vista via CS2.0

I know the compatibility of CS2.0 and Vista have been thoroughly discussed. I also know that Adobe says CS 2.3 should work without major issues. Here's my situation.
My old XP computer died so I upgraded to a new computer with Vista. I would like to install my CS2.3 onto the new computer. However, I purchased the software as a student licensing version of CS2.0 with a free upgrade to 2.3. That is, I received CDs to install 2.0, mailed in for my free upgrade and received upgrade disks to bring everything up to 2.3.
My question: Is 2.0 compatible enough that I will be able to install it long enough to run the upgrade install to 2.3?
Alternatively: Will Adobe allow me to upgrade from 2.3 to a student license of CS4? I'm still a student and can provide that proof, but I can't really find prices for student licensing (or even education version) upgrades.
Thanks.

CS2 IS NOT supported under Vista. Many folks have reported success, however.
The CS2 to CS2.3 upgrade is simply Acrobat Professional 8 and
Dreamweaver 8 on separate disks.
Do a custom install of CS2 and do not install Acrobat 7. Follow that up
with the installation of Acrobat 8 and immediately run any Adobe updates.
Post any followups in the Windows forum but be prepared to be told to
upgrade to CS4 (which you can do for a limited time at the same price as
a CS3 to CS4 upgrade) to solve any compatibility problems.

I don't think there is any upgrade that you can purchase for CS2.  If you need to reinstall CS2 then see the following...
    CS2: Error: Activation Server Unavailable | CS2, Acrobat 7, Audition 3 -

You can also purchase CS6 software still...

Try right clicking the Illustrator icon on the desktop then select run as adminisrator.

  • Help CS2 and Vista

    Hi,
I’ve been running CS2 on Vista for about 4 years on my laptop with no problems. Last weekend  I got a Malware virus that had to be removed by McAfee. They made some changes to the Vista OS and also installed Service Pack 2 for Vista. Now CS2 won’t load- it asks me for an authorization code and asked that I activate by phone. The Adobe rep directed me to a support page on the Adobe website and to remove the .DAT files in the program licenses file. I tried this – no go. Also tried to run as administrator- no go.
When I looked thru my hard drive folders, I saw that I have adobe program licenses folders in TWO PLACES
    C:\ProgramData\Adobe Systems\Product licenses
    And
    C:\Qoobox\Quarantine\C\ProgramData\Adobe Systems\Product licenses
I’m guessing here, but It seems like McAfee uninstalled CS2 and then reinstalled it and tried to protect my license in a quarantined folder. In any case, the files in each of  the License folders are different. Should I try to move my “quarantined” files to their original folder? Would this be safe? Would this work?
Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions here? I didn’t get much help from Adobe on this. They said that CS2 is too old to give phone tech support. ( even though I bought Photoshop CS5 extended and Lightroom to run on my home computer 2 months ago)
I really would like to get this back because without reinstalling from disc. I have customized many CS2 programs, brushes, actions, printer settings etc, that would be lost if I reinstall and from other forums, It seems that a lot of people are having problems installing from disc to Vista.
    Help!!!

My suggestion is to forget about CS2 and Vista and give serious thought to upgrading...NOW! CS2 is totally unsupported under Vista is the earliest version eligible for upgrade pricing. Why now? Because CS5.5 has already been announced and in the mean time you can get the CS2 to CS5 Design Premium upgrade for $768: http://amzn.to/ekY9fa. That will make you eligible for a free upgrade to CS5.5 when it ships in the next few weeks. http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/153/tn_15304.html
The CS2 to CS5.5 upgrade will cost about $200 more. By buying CS5 now you'll save that $200 and get a free upgrade as well as having a supported combination of software and operating system. You'll also keep yourself eligible for upgrade pricing for the foreseeable future.

  • Help missing for PS CS2 on Vista

I installed both Premiere Pro 2.0 and Photoshop CS2 on Vista. The Help files are available for Premiere Pro 2.0 but not available for Photoshop CS2. Tried all steps outlined in Adobe TechNote 319210 for cases when Help Center content is missing. However, none of these steps solved the problem. Help for Photoshop CS2 is still not listed in Help Center.
Thanks for any tips or directions on getting Help to work for Photoshop CS2 running on Vista.

Thanks for the replies. Tried the following, as suggested, but no success.
    1) Looked in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Help\en_US\ but no Photoshop or Premiere folder. There was an Adobe Reader folder with the Help.html however.
    2) Went to FAQs and followed steps provided in post there. Cleared the Help Preferences, then deleted the Cache, Database, Preferences, and Search folders under ...\AdobeHelpData\. Left the Packages folder with the Photoshop_9.0_en-us.zip and PremierePro_2.0_en-us.zip files, then double clicked the ahc.exe file. Help Center appeared but no indication that rebuilding was taking place, and the Help Center content was empty (not even Premiere Pro). I looked at the directory structure under ...\AdobeHelpData\ and Help Center did rebuild the folders previously deleted.
Restored folders under ..\AdobeHelpData\ to original status and executed Help Center again. As expected, Premiere Pro appeared in the content but not Photoshop CS2.
The product version of Help Center I am using on Vista is 2.1.212002.0.
Tried to reinstall Help Center (using download from Adobe), but installation was aborted. The error mesg only said that a problem occurred, but gave no details.
I do not think this is a Vista problem since Help Center works fine with Premiere Pro 2.0. However, not sure.
Is there anything else I can try?

  • CS2 and Vista

This has probably appeared here many times: CS2 Premium got installed on Dell+Vista, worked for some time, then suddenly quit opening, showing a message like "you don't have adm status, log as adm".
Well, I was logged as adm. Called Dell, no clue. Called Adobe: try uninstall and install: wouldn't install. Called Dell back, they told me to reinstate original Dell Vista that came with computer. Did that, still didn't install.
Called Adobe, they said, well, CS2 doesn't support Vista, no patch or update available. End of story.
Anyone knows any workaround here, short of installing XP on my computer just to run CS2?

    32- or 64-bit Vista?
Lots of users have managed to get CS3 to run, and some CS2, but you need to provide full details about your OS and system.

CS2 is completely unsupported under Vista and 64 bits adds more problems.
Best advice is to upgrade. CS5 will be shipping soon.

  • Photoshop CS2 und Vista

Arbeiten mit Photoshop CS2 unter Windows Vista.

    Hi,
Ich musste also telefonisch aktivieren.

  • DEP error on CS2 in Vista

I've done some googling and troubleshooting but can't seem to find a fix for this. We've recently "upgraded" to Vista at work. We run Photoshop CS2 (with unfortunately no plans of upgrading in the very near future). Installation of CS2 appeared to be fine, but didn't seem to activate properly. I closed it out, made sure the old copy of CS2 was deactivated on our previous computer. When I reopened CS2 on Vista (64 bit), it asks me to register. Whatever I do with the registration fields doesn't seem to matter, photoshop immediately shuts down with the following Date Execution Prevention error:

I've gone into the DEP settings and manually set it to ignore photoshop and run it without DEP oversight, but it's made no difference.
I thought I'd read that CS2 generally ran fine in Vista (32bit or 64bit), but obviously it's not working here. Any thoughts?

With Vista you have to run the .exe file as Admin.
Also insure that in msconfig, that in the start up tab, Adobe CS2 Service Manager is checked. (least in CS4 it is called that so it should be the same or close to it.
Also if you google PS CS2 and Vista you will see that on a lot of systems there are issues running it.
Edit: also when you do get it up and running to update CS2 and also if you have video card driver problems to update those too.

I have Windows Vista Ultimate Build 6001 and tried to install adobe reader V9.0. The download was fine but when I run the program (AdbeRdr90_en_US.exe) it returns the error:

I am getting the exact same error:
I have a brand new HP xw8600 systems with 64 bit Vista Ultimate installed.
Via google I found a suggestion to turn on user account control.
I went to control panel > User Account > Turn User Account Control
checked the box and restarted the system. I ran the install as the administrator. It was a minor improvement. Instead of the error coming up immediately like it was, I got the OS confirmation asking if I wanted to install the program. I got the failure right have selecting "yes"

  • Vista via remote disk

    hi,
after trying and trying , i finally gave up and realised that one may not install vista via remote disk
so i created a .iso of the vista install disk . And over my networked, transfered it over to my MBA desktop.
yet bootcamp wont reconized or install vista...
is there any way i can use some type of vertual drive and trick bootcamp ?
or do i NEED to buy the super drive ?

Apple support official answer is here: <http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=307310>
+MacBook Air requires a USB optical drive for the installation of Microsoft Windows XP SP2 (Service Pack 2) or Microsoft Windows Vista (32-bit versions only). The Remote Disc sharing software included with the MacBook Air cannot be used to install Microsoft Windows. Be sure to connect your external USB optical drive to your MacBook Air before starting the Boot Camp Assistant.+

  • Tried to set up Vista via Bootcamp.....

Tried to set up Vista via Bootcamp, Macbook Pro (06) now only boots in Vista (option on boot doesn't help) which will not connect to internet. Now, I just want my Mac back. There's a reason I no longer own a PC. Should have never looked back!
Please help me just get rid of this mess and get back on OS X.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Okay, I just got the computer and haven’t done anything with it, so I guess I didn’t see any reason to do any backup. I have the Mac OS X install discs, a Lion disc, and of course this silly Vista disc.
When I got the computer, it was up and running, but I don’t even know if it had the Lion installed or not (may have still been whatever it had before...Leopard???).
I found some directions on the web to guide me through setting up Vista via bootcamp. I followed those as well as I could, although there were small differences. However, it was generally right...got Vista installed, anyway.
The first thing I noticed was Vista wouldn’t take me to the web. Then I started wondering how to get back to the Mac side. Read that if I hold the Option key while booting, I’d have the option to open on either side. That trick doesn’t work for me. When I do that, all I get is a little picture of a padlock with a space underneath to type in a password (I assume). I don’t know what to put there, since I’ve not set up any password on the computer...maybe it’s for something else???
I’ve tried the C at start up, D at startup, and now Command-R, they all seem to get me the same thing- Windows boot manager. It says to choose an operating system to start...but then only has Microsoft Windows Vista as an option.
Uhhh, is there anyway to just wipe this thing out or something, so I can start over. I don’t have anything I need to worry about losing...I don’t guess. Only had the computer a day or so. Or is there something else I should be worrying about.
By the way, thanks for the response.

    From another forum:

    2. Hold down Option key till all available disks are displayed and select DVD. Press a key when you are prompted.
    3. Select a language, a time, a currency, a keyboard or an input method, and then 4. click Next.
    5. Click Repair your computer.
    6. Click the operating system that you want to repair, and then click Next.

    Type (these commands are safe)

    Code: Bootrec.exe /RebuildBcd
    *Press ENTER after each command.*
    *Restart your computer.* "
