Installing CS3 Questions

I'm just getting around to installing CS3 and have a few questions.
Can I copy the disk to my hard drive and install from the hard drive?
I know Windows Service Pack 2 is needed in order to run CS3, but is it needed to install the program?
Hi,
I'm running WinXP, Service Pack 1
While trying to install the program I encountered a pop-up box with the following message:
b Setup has encountered an error and cannot continue.
b Contact Adobe Customer Support for assistance.
b The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur
b if you are running Windows in safe mode, or if the Windows installer
b is not correctly installed.
So, anybody know what's going on?
Shel

Shel,
1. Yes, you can the disk to the hard drive and install from there. Some folks have even found it necessary to I believe. I do it all the time just for sake of convenience and faster installs.
2. Is WinXP/SP2 needed to install CS3? I'm not sure, but since it is is needed for CS3, I'd sure install SP2 first, particularly knowing that the installation of CS3 has been troublesome for several folks. In my experience, I've seen more problems caused by installing a service pack after an application is installed, than by doing the service pack first. SP3 is also out I believe, but I don't know it's history for causing new problems, so whether to go fully current with SP3 is more of a choice than a need.
3. I'm not sure about the Windows Installer issue, but that may well be SP2 related, since the Windows Installer does get updated periodically. Again, I suggest you first install SP2 then return to installing CS3 to see if the problem is resolved.

Daryl

  • Dumb question: I have CS5. Can I install CS3?

I have all the CS suites from #1 on up. Yay!
But up until CS5, I've taken OFF the previous suite, and installed the newest one.
And now I have a client that needs to work w/ CS3 files. I'm assuming I can just install my disks and everything will be okey dokey?
I'm also hoping to use the Nikon Scan 4 plugin (because Nikon, in their infinite wisdom, are refusing to update the standalone past PPC).
I'm on 10.7 Lion by the way.
    Thanks. Hopefully an easy question

The recommended way is to install the Creative Suite versions in release order: CS3, CS4, CS5. If you reverse order, like to install CS3 with CS5 already installed, you take the chance of screwing up your CS5 installation.
First choice would be to install CS3 on another partition of your hard drive or another computer. If that's not possible, I'd uninstall CS5, then install CS3, then reinstall CS5.

  • HELP New Install CS3.3 on a MAC

    HI,
I have a Mac freash out the box it has OX 10.5 and I tried to install CS3.3 upgrade on it but all it did was install fireworks and Pro 9.
my question Do I have to have CS3 on my Mac first then use the up grade CD to upgrade should the up grade have to full virsion on it too? or I'm I doing something wrong ? Please help me

The CS3 to CS3.3 upgrade is nothing but Acrobat 9(and in the case of
    Design Premium, Fireworks).
Pop CS3 DVD in and do a custom install without Acrobat 8.

  • Trying to install CS3 Premium

I am buying CS3 Premium. The person who is selling it to me has done the licence transfer, although I've been waiting 3 weeks for an email about this and it hasn't arrived (from Adobe).
So, I thought I'd try it anyway. He's selling me his complete upgrade sequence, PS5.5, CS2 Premium and CS3 Premium, so I can follow the same path he did. Yes, he's de-activated and uninstalled everything.
He also sent me the list of his registered applications, a screenshot from his account. It shows he had PS5.5 and CS2 Premium registered - looks like he didn't register CS3 Premium.
So, I installed CS3 - no luck. Right at the end of the process I was asked for the CS3 sn, fine, that works. Then I'm asked for a qualifying sn, fine, the CS2 sn was accepted. Then I was asked to enter a 2nd qualifying sn, for CS2 upgrade. All I've got is the upgrade version, which was accepted as full version, but not as an upgrade. Don't have another serial number, not offered any more choices.  Even though I have PSCS2 standalone entirely legally installed (registered under my business account). Oh, and PS7, if it matters. Also totally legal.
OK, uninstall CS3 (properly) and start again.
Install CS2. All goes well. It installs, using the sn from PS5.5 as well. I register it, I activate it.
So - the transfer must be OK and legit, or I couldn't have registered it, right? Because it WAS registered to the bloke who's selling it to me. I have proof. And I have just registered it. Yes, using the correct email address.
Try again to install CS3, without uninstalling CS2.
    CS3 serial number accepted.
BUT now I need the sn for CS2.3 Premium to continue. Not CS2. That one is rejected. Has to be CS2.3.
So, I go to open a question in support - but I can only ask a question about my registered products - which allegedly do not include CS2!!!!!
Before I enter telephone hell, can anyone spot a flaw in all this?

So, I uninstalled CS3 while waiting for my issue to be resolved, trying to stop the clock since it was running as a trial. Did it via Applications > Utilities > Adobe Installers > CS3 Uninstaller. (Mac 10.4.11).
Right at the end I came back and saw a screen saying it was done and stupidly hit 'Finish' before reading the small print that I think was about this:
I still have an InDesign CS3 folder (looks like a generic folder), with an unknown document inside, called InDesign CS3 but it's not, and a fonts folder containing a file called AdobeFnt11.lst, which opens as an empty document.
Can I just bin these? The uninstaller has disappeared now so I can't have another look.

  • Troubles installing cs3 Web Premium

I just got a new computer (MacBook Pro) running OS 10.6.7.  I deactived my Adobe software on my old computer (an older white MacBook which is also running OS 10.6.7), downloaded CS3 Web Premium from the Adobe on-line store (where I originally purchased it) to my new computer and double clicked the Setup icon.  I very briefly see a window saying "Initializing Adobe Setup..", then an installer alert window pops up saying "Setup has encountered an error and cannot continue.  Contact Adobe Customer Support for assistance.
Customer Support transferred me to Installation support, which told me they no longer support CS3 installation questions.
What do I need to do to get my CS3 software running on my new computer?
    Thanks,
    Phil DiPastena

    Hi Phil,
I'm sorry you're having problems installing CS3.  Your best bet would be to reprost this question over on the Mac Creative Suite forums.
    Thanks,

  • Uninstall CS2 before installing CS3?

A back-to-basics question, but one which most surprisingly not even the CS3 user manual or installation ReadMe mention: Is there any advantage or disadvantage in removing CS2 either before or after installing CS3?
    Thanks.

Since I started with PP2 and have yet to upgrade this app., I have not faced this one yet, but with Photoshop, I always keep the old version on the machine, until I am comfortable doing quick work with the new one. Also, I still have PS ver. 4 on one machine for a single client, who needs a special output and ver. 4 was the last to do what she needs, exactly as she needs it. It's far easier to leave a previous installation on the machine, until everything is working well and one learns the new version completely, rather than doing a reinstall, when things go south in a Project with a deadline looming.

  • Installing CS3 (Volume License) for mass deployment via NetInstall (via OS X Server)

    Hello.
I'm wondering if anyone has any experience using CS3 (volume license) for mass deployment? We used to manually install on machines, but as the size of the organization has grown, this has become more and more inconvenient. This summer we're planning on a complete upgrade to all systems and during this process we're doing HD formatting and clean installations of all systems and software. To make this process more efficient (as all systems are set up the same way) we're now looking into using OS X 10.5 Server, NetInstall and a cloned system image for deployment to all machines. My question is, is there anything relating to CS3 that may cause issues with this process? Does CS3 installation bind itself to the hardware it was installed on? Since we are using a volume license, I don't have to worry about individual serial numbers and activating the system with Adobe, but again, I'm unsure if installations are somehow tied into the hardware they were installed on? Ideally, I'd install CS3 onto the "master" system and run all updates prior to making the final system image. Has anyone that's done this using CS3 provide any information that may help me out?
    Thanks,
    Kristin.

    kristin,
No one is withholding a reply from you because you're using CS3. It is just that no one who may know the answer has wandered by. The folks who help here are Adobe product users, like you.
    >This summer we're planning on a complete upgrade to all systems and during this process we're doing HD formatting and clean installations of all systems and software.
My only point was that you will be spending a lot of time and effort on a setup that is centered around older, discontinued software. And my thinking is that if you are going to the time and expense of revamping your office, why not do it right and include CS4? If you install CS3 now, when you do decide to upgrade to CS4, you will be giving yourself a lot of extra work. From my point of view, the added software cost would be a good investment
during the current systems overhaul. Otherwise, it just isn't a "complete upgrade". You're installing '07 parts on the '09 Mercedes.

  • Installing CS3 on Leopard

I apologize for what is probably a repeat question, but here
    goes. I
recently upgraded to Leopard on my MacBook Pro. It seems to
    be working
fine, but I'm having trouble installing Adobe Creative Suite
    3 (Web
    Premium).
After inserting the first disk, the installation seemed
    strikingly slow
to begin with. The progress bar then came to a stop when it
    was about
3/4 finished. I can't remember what program it said was being
    installed,
but when I checked it about an hour, it had changed to
    Dreamweaver,
indicating the installation was progressing, though the
    progress bar was
again frozen (though about 85% finished).
But when I got home from work this morning, I discovered that
    the
installation had progressed no further. I found some tips on
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=329590&sliceId=1
but it was written before Leopard was released. Moreover, it
    frequently
refers to Creative Suite 1.X, when I have CS3.
I have uninstalled the programs that did install by dragging
    their
folders to the trash, then emptying the trash. I'll also run
    Repair Disk
again, and I'm copying the files from the installation to my
    disks to my
    desktop.
In summary, I'd like to know what experiences others have had
    installing
CS3 on Leopard and whether anyone can direct me to any good
    (and
current) installation guides or tutorials. In fact, I was
    struck by the
fact that Adobe didn't include any obvious "Getting Started"
    item with
CS3 - unless I just haven't found it yet. I assume one is
    supposed to
install the disk titled Applications, followed by Content,
    then Video
    Workshop.
    Thanks for any tips.

Thanks for all the tips. I was able to install it after i
    merely copied
all the installation files from the DVD to my hard drive.
    After i get
everything set up, I'm going to install MAMP Pro as a
    PHP/MySQL environment.
Thanks for the link to the online videos, too; that will
    indeed be handy.

  • Do I need to install CS3 on Windows 7 64 bit before installing CS5 Upgrade?

I am replacing a graphic designer's Windows Vista laptop with a Dell Precision T5500 desktop.  Do I need to uninstall CS3 from the laptop and decommission the serial number?  Then do I need to install CS3 on the new desktop before installing the CS5 upgrade?  I was told I needed to decommission the installation, but I don't remember having to do that with other installations.  Thanks in advance!

You should definetly deactivate any software before uninstalling. But you don't have to install CS3 in order to install CS5. Just have the serial number handy for verification. That said, depending upon the user's needs, you might want to leave CS3 available.

CS3 is unsupported under Windows 8. That said, you'll need to contact Adobe
    directly for serial number issues.

  • Can't install CS3 on Windows 7

I know there's a similar discussion in this section, but I'm having slightly different issues with my version. I'm not sure if this makes a difference, but I bought my copy of CS3 (Design Premium) used via Amazon.
There are a couple different things going on. First, while I understand that this software takes up a lot of space and will require some time to install, mine is taking an exceedingly long time. I've left the computer running for hours - as in 5 or 6 or more. The place it gets stuck is the installation progress window - those progress bars do not move the entire time, and I also notice the disk drive stops making noise, so absolutely nothing gets installed and no progress toward installation happens.
Also, I did have CS3 on the computer previously as a trial version (I did not enter a serial number) and uninstalled it once the trial ended, so I still have the downloaded setup/installer and I tried using that, assuming I can just enter the serial number included in the purchased version. I get told the serial number is invalid...though that may be because the previous version was the full suite and I just kept a couple programs. When I installed CS3 that last time, I don't even think it took an hour to install (I only installed Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, and Flash). So I have no clue why it won't install now. Note I uninstalled the old version before trying to install the new one, mostly because I couldn't run any of the programs.
I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. The computer is not very old - only about 4 months old, no viruses, not used much, so there shouldn't be anything going on to interfere with installation. Also, I did get CS3 for Windows, so the OS is not the issue either. Is the fact that my version is pre-owned a potential cause for problems? Like maybe the previous owner never deactivated the software before selling it? Are the previous version and current version somehow conflicting with one another despite uinstalling?

Run the Creative Suite Cleaner Tool, try again. and if you bought it used, you will have to run a Transfer an Adobe product license to handle activations properly.
