Installing CS4 Design Standard, upgrade version

Hi everyone, I have a question about the installation process of (the upgrade version of) CS4 Design Standard; the operating system of my PC is Windows XP Pro (SP3), as up-to-date as possible ;)
The version of CS I'm currently using is CS2 Premium.
Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but am I right in assuming I can install CS4 without removing (or hampering!) my current installation?
(If this is indeed true, I would be rather pleased. I need the new Camera Raw (as the upcoming EOS 5D Mk II isn't supported by version 4.x), but I'm currently working on a large project involving Photoshop & Illustrator -- and I *definitely* do not want to change versions half-way through.)
One thing worries me the most -- what about Acrobat? CS2 came with version 7, but I have read that Acrobat isn't as well-behaved as the 'proper' CS products.
All help is highly appreciated.

Just install it. CS2 won't be touched but you'll be prompted to allow
the installer to uninstall Acrobat 7.

You simply install it and input the required serials, including one of a previous product when asked for it.

  • Installing CS4 Design Standard as an upgrade from InDesign

Installing CS4 Design Standard as an upgrade from InDesign CS on Mavericks OS but serial numbers not valid.  Is there a keystroke to override this hangup?

Thanks kglad,  I have attempted all of your suggestions with no success.  This is a specific unique issue requiring a special set of keyboard commands to unlock or override my s/n.  The product is an upgrade from an old InDesign CS.  The InDesign CS is not on the harddrive, I cannot install the InDesign CS again after Mavericks upgrade.  The CS4 install routine does not present an opportunity to enter the InDesign CS s/n when I attempt a trial install and launch. The initial install required a call to Adobe support and special keystrokes were provided from support to "open" the software.  Please help.  Adobe support via CHAT are not able to access this information.

I am using an iMac OS 10.5.8, 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 1 GB, 800 MHz. AllI know is that you can't upgrade from CS1.
I am in the misdt of several production projects and can't afford a mistake or down time. Thanks for any and all help.
P.S. Is Snow Leopard compatiable with CS4?
    Thanks, Compositor Rick

You can upgrade from CS1 to CS4. CS1 will be out of the upgrade path when CS5 is released.
You don't need to remove CS1 it does not conflict with CS4. I have CS1 through CS4 installed and playing nicely together.
CS4 is compatible but  I would stay with 10.5.8 until Apple gets most of the bugs worked out of Snow Leopard. that is usually about the 4th update.

  • Installing CS4 Design Standard Wont Allow Illustrator to Install

I am trying to install CS4 Design Standard and it will not allow me to check the box to install Illustrator.  I have had Illustrator CS4 on my machine in the past but have deleted it.  Anyone know what I can to to be able to install Illustrator CS4.  I need to because I have now upgraded to Snow Leopard.

You don't delete Adobe apps anymore you use the uninstaller. So download the CS4 cleanscript to remove all traces of CS4 and reinstall everything.

  • Install CS4 Design Standard to Windows 8.1 (64)

I am trying to install CS4 Design Standard to Windows 8.1 (64) with my original discs (also tried from Adobe download of trial software) and receive the message: "The Installer Database is corrupt. Please contact Adobe Customer Service." Any ideas on how to proceed?

Have you tried installing using compatibility mode?

  • Installing CS4 Design Standard as an upgrade from CS Premium

I just got a shiny new iMac running Yosemite and when attempting to install, I get the dreaded Invalid Serial Number.
The serial number you entered does not match the product you selected. Please reenter the serial number or select a different product to upgrade.
I have both of these products and their corresponding discs and the serial numbers right in front of me. Any suggestions?

    Thanks Mandeep5062,
This led me to further investigation and I knew that I had to be missing something here. That something was that I had originally upgraded like this: CS>CS2>CS4.
I was inputting my CS serial number and needed my CS2 serial number for the upgrade.
And for some reason, I no longer have the discs or box for CS2. But, thanks to an old post-it note that I somehow managed to still have, I actually found my CS2 serial number!
I'm almost embarrassed that I did not figure this out sooner.
So, I have finally successfully installed CS4!
    Thanks for your help!

  • Error message when installing CS4 design standard

When installation begins the "checking system profile" comes up and about 2 seconds later the follow error message comes up - "setup error - setup has encountered an error and cannot continue. Contact Adobe customer service". I installed on an older laptop I have to make sure the disk was fine and it installed just fine, so I don't think it is the disk. I have uninstalled previous Adobe product and run cleanscript for CS3 and CS4. I am using Window XP and the laptop has all the other system requirements Adobe lists for CS4 - Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

Tend to agree. You probably downloaded a wrong language version of the installer. Doublecheck that and download again.

  • How to upgrade from CS2 Premium to CS4 Design Standard

Have had CS2 Premium running on my Vista machine (32bit) for some time now without problems.  Recently purchased CS4 Design Standard upgrade, but have left it in the box for some time.  Things have calmed down, ready to try the upgrade.  Is there a definitive recommended approach to this - i.e. just install over or remove existing.  I've ready countless problems, suggestions etc., but felt by now, there must be a right way to do this.  Appreciate any guidance,
    Larry

sorry to be a pita, just want to minimize potentail problems.  A few more questions then:
    1.  So are you saying the install doesn't overaly on CS2 but in fact keeps it and installs CS4 separately?  That's a lot of wasted mb.  Or
    2. am I given a choice upon install - over CS2 or new?  And
    3. if I install in a separate directory, will uninstall of CS2 later on once i'm comfortable with CS4 delete any shared files?

  • How to install the CS4 design standard in Windows 7?

I bought the CS4 design standard and install it in Win XP.
Recently, I upgraded my OS to Win7.
However, when I wanted to reinstall the CS4 design standard, it failed.
So I tried just install one function of that design standard : Acrobat 9.0 Pro.
That installation succeeded. But when I want to use it,
it shows that I need to initiate with other CS4 functions, such as CS4 photoshop to make it work.
Is anyone can help me? Thanks!

    Hi s2007,
What was the error message that you encountered when you tried to install CS4?
We might have to check the install logs for the installation failure.
Please see Troubleshoot with install logs | CS5, CS5.5, CS6 - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/troubleshoot-install-logs-cs5-cs5.html for information on how to review your installation logs
You might also want to try the following steps:
    > Enable the hidden Admin Account on Windows 7 ( Ref :  http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/enable-the-hidden-administrator-account-on-wi ndows-vista/ )
    > Disable all Non-Microsoft Startup Services. (Ref : http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/disable-startup-items-services-windows.html )
    > Disable all the Antivirus softwares like CA, Norton,Mc Afee etc. temporarily from the computer.
Reboot and try installing in the new enabled Admin user account and check.

    Rave

  • Upgrading from CS4 Design Standard to CS5.5 Design Standard

Hopefully a simple question. I am currently running CS4 Design Standard and wish to upgrade to CS5.5 Design Standard. My version of CS4 itself was an upgrade from the full installation version software of CS2 (I managed to skip the CS3 stage using a previous Adobe upgrade deal). Am I right in thinking that although the CS4 was an upgrade package it is now my 'standard platform' so to speak, and therefore I can use upgrade software again to take me up to CS5.5? I have the serial number for the CS4 software.
    Thanks,
    Richard

That is correct. Make sure you get the right upgrade…there are several.

  • CS4 Design standard Silent Install:  Start Menu Items

    Greetings!
I've got everything working for a silent install of CS4 (Design Standard).  However, there seems to be an issue with creating the Start Menu Folders.
My first try, I asked for all the shortcuts to be placed in a folder called "AdobeCS4."  Short and sweet.  After running the install, it created THREE folders.  The first, just called "Adobe" had the Media Player shortcut in it.  The second was the one that I'd asked for, AdobeCS4, and had the rest of the items in it, except for three.  The Third folder was named "Adobe Design Standard CS4", and had "Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro", Acrobat Distiller 9, and Adobe LiveCycle Designer ES 8.2" in it.
So, I re-set the install.xml file to NOT make my custom folder name, but just use the one called 'Adobe'.
However, the acrobat side of things still won't play nice.  It looks like in the "suite.mst" in the Acrobat Payload folder specifically calls for the cumbersome "Adobe Design Standard CS4" folder.  I tried editing that file, and the install of Acrobat failed, so I assume that the files are checked before install to make sure they're not corrupted or something.
Has anyone been able to make this (Acrobat Install) work properly, and have an install NOT bloat the start menu like crazy? How about the Adobe Media Player install?
I've currently got the install working cleanly using a batch file to change some registry values (disable eula, adobe.com, etc), move the shortcuts, and delete the old folder, which works, but is really not how "software of this caliber" should work.
Thanks for taking the time to read this, and hopefully answer!
