Installing CS4 from CS5.5 32-bit package

Recently bought CS5.5 - the product insert says that a complimentary version of CS4 for the stragglers (like me - using XP Pro/SP3).  Inserted the "Content and Installation Help" disc into my cd drive, and nothing happened!  Nothing showed up on the My Computer display either - wondering if it's a hardware issue (system specs are too far out of date for the installer to launch), or if something is wrong with the software.  Same thing happened when I tried to use each of the three application discs.  Any help would be appreciated!

Discs not showing up points to hardware issues. Check your device manager.

My hard drive fried and had to be replaced. I'm trying to install CS4 from my original discs but keep getting this error message - "One or more of the required components of Adobe Creative Suite 4 Design Standard failed to install correctly". A customer service rep gave me a link to download off the Adobe site, but when I try to open the file to run it, I get this error message - "A problem occurred extracting the archive".
    Can anyone help?

Yep.  Nothing happens at all. Windows tries to execute the uninstaller, but I don't get any other screen and all activity stops for the MSI.  I monitored it in Process Monitor and the MSI executable appears, but is quickly ended, like it couldn't find anything or something.
It's as if windows has a blank entry in Programs and Features, because it used to show the size of the Adobe application in the "Size" column.  Now it's just blank.  Link to screenshot below:

Note the install date.  That's when I was able to successfully reinstall it.  Now I can't even do that.  I should also mention I tried Revo Uninstaller.  It deleted one small registry key, but nothing changed.
By the way, is the CS cleaner supposed to ask for a disc in the drive when you run it?  It refused to run unless I had one in it, so I used my install dvd.

  • Install CS4 from disk on Win7 64-bit

I'm trying to find help on installing Photoshop CS4 on a Win7 64-bit computer. The DVD appears to have the 32-bit version and I've tried having Windows install it as Vista as well as WinXP, but it doesn't work. It just provides an error and tells me to contact support. I'm guessing this is under the CC area, but I can't find a DVD area!

copy your installation files to your desktop and try to install from there.
if that fails download the installation files,

  • Re-install CS4 over CS5

    (also posted in Premiere forum)
What would you think about the possible effects of putting CS4 back in my system now that I have a clean install of CS5 (from the OS on up, still haven't reloaded everything)?  I am still trying to get HDV mpeg clips to preview in Bridge and Windows Media player without success and Premiere still seems sluggish.  Getting "file update errors" when I capture new footage.
This is in my dual processor/Quad Core 3.0, 8 gig RAM, Vista Ultimate 64bit, NVidia 5700 (1.5gig) graphics setup.  It has worked flawlessly in CS4 before I upgraded to CS5.  Previews, workflow, pretty stable (only problems were usually pilot error), overall quite happy.
So, in short, does anyone think that putting CS4 back in might give me back the mpeg CODEC support (external to Premiere - all clips play inside Premiere OK).  Don't anyone suggest 3rd party CODEC packages: been there, done that and spent a week doing a clean install from ground up.  And, "Yes", all file associations inside Bridge and in Windows have been set up.  Latest versions of Quicktime and Windows Media Player.
When I moved to CS5 I also went from Vista 32bit to 64bit.  All updates have been installed to that, but could that be where problem lies?  My business relies on recycling footage from project to project, mixing and blending from nearly 3TB of storage, so bringing them all into a Premiere project bin to preview is out of the question as you all well know.
Sorry to drag on, but I love Master Suite a lot and would love to make it fly higher than it did in CS4.
So, does it hurt to back-wards-re-install products?

Standard advice is to de-activate and uninstall CS5 and run the Adobe Cleanscript. Then install CS4 followed by CS5.
Otherwise you may completely confuse your system.

  • Trouble installing CS4 in Windows 7 64-bit

Has anybody else had trouble installing CS4 into Windows 7 Pro 64-bit?  I had this suite installed in XP (32-bit) and it worked just fine, but it will not install on my new computer.  The first time I tried, it got partway in (past the serial number), and then everything locked up.  I had to restart the machine twice just to make it let go of the CD!
Someone on a forum suggested  copying the disks to the hard drive and installing from there, but this did not work any better, the installation simply fails immediately, and I get an error code 1605.  I tried it with the firewall off, and with anti-virus disabled, and I never leave User Account Control enabled.  What is going on?

  • Multiple problems installing upgrade from CS5 Design Prem. to CS6 Design Prem.

I had started a thread a few days ago regarding problems that I was having while installing my upgrade from CS5 Design Premium to CS6 Design Premium.  Everything seemed to install fine with the exception of Acrobat X Pro.  http://forums.adobe.com/message/4716847#4716847
I thought that I had resolved the issue through tech support, but apparently not.  First of all, they had me install the trial version of Acrobat X which actually let me install with no errors. A couple of days passed and Acrobat asked if I would like to continue my trial or enter a serial number. I tried to use my serial that came with my upgrade but it rejected it, so I opted to continue the trial.  Then earlier today as I was working in InDesign, upon launching I got a script error message.
    Error in C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Startup Scripts CS6\Flash\Flash-12.0.jsx
    Line 153: if( app.name = = flashAppname && (module.name = = 'DefaultScript' II module.name = = 'Flash'))
    Cannot open resource file.
After clicking OK it seemed to open InDesign fine and I was able to open files and go about working. While working I noticed that I had no effects in the dropdown menu under 'Object'. Tried the shortcut for them and nothing happened.  I have yet to try to open any files containing effects (drop shadow or something) but am guessing that they will not work. My next course of action was to try to Uninstall and Re-Install. I removed CS6 and Acrobat X Pro from my computer and ran the Creative Suite Cleaner program. Then instead of installing the upgrade from the DVD, I decided to download the program from the Adobe LWS and give that a go thinking that maybe the download files are more up-to-date than the DVD that I recieved.  Now it seems I am back to square one with the same problems (InDesign missing 'Effects' and who knows what else, and Acrobat X Pro failed to install), but this time I have diffent errors on the "error summary file" that shows up as a link in the "Installation Complete" dialog box. Sorry for being windy, but I really need to get this resolved. Thanks for any and all input.  PC is Dell Precision T3500 running Windows 7 and is current on it's updates.

  • How to install After Effects CS5.5(64-bit) with After Effects CS4 installer(32bit)?

I have purchased After Effects CS5.5 unknowingly it is only for 64 bit system. My system is 32 bit. When I read a Adobe help page I got to knew that 32 bit users can install AE CS5 and above with help of a AE CS4 installer. Please help me how to do this.My system specs are:
    Windows 7 32-bit
Intel Core i3 3.2 Ghz processor
    2 GB ram

In this page: http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs6-32bit.html they tells that:"The support package installs CS4 versions of the Adobe applications to assist users who were transitioning to a 64-bit OS.If you currently have the CS4 32-bit installer and serial number, you can deploy without any additional steps." I didn't understand properly. Plz refer the page and tell me what it means.

  • Correct install order for CS4 and CS5 on 32-bit system?

I have CS5 (Master Collection) to install on a 32-bit Windows XP system.
As the CS5 versions of both Premier Pro and After Effects require a 64-bit edition of Windows, included in the disc set are CS4 versions of those programs for this purpose.
What, if any, is the preferred install order? I am inclined to install the CS4's first, assuming the CS5 install will overwrite/update some shared components.
Should I install the CS4's first, CS5 first, or will it make no difference?

The right procedure is installation of CS4 first then CS5.

I'm sorry, but "get rid of Quicktime and Windows Media Player..."???
Did I miss something over the years but don't we need Quicktime installed for video functionality in CS apps and WMP is built into Window OS so how might one "get rid of it"???
Those are hardly 3rd party apps in any shape or form.  Thanks for the conversation, rg

  • Saving file as cs4 from cs5 in Illustrator

I'm super-frustrated. I just upgraded to CS5 and now no one can read my files when I send them to them. Worse, I can't figure out how to save it as a legacy version of Illustrator (preferably CS4). I've done it before under the saveas dialog, but I don't see it there. I read in another forum to look under the Illustrator Options dialog, but I can't find THAT anywhere either. I'm on a Mac.
    Please help!!!

I'm having an issue with legacy formats as well, but it's slightly different.  Figured I would post it in here rather than starting a new thread for it.
I have 5 files, each with multiple layers, that were created in Illustrator CS5.  The printer who I'm sending the files to is still working in Illustrator CS3, so I saved them to the CS3 legacy format, and sent him the files.  He replied and said that he wasn't able to open them.  So I tried to open them up in CS4 (which I still have installed on my machine alongside CS5), and I receive this error message on each of the files:
Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be?  If I save the files in CS4 format and open them in CS4, I am able to open the files, but for some reason they lose their layers.  Both problems are very frustrating, as I don't want to have to save my files as CS4 format, re-open them in CS4, rebuild the layers, and then save them as CS3 out of CS4.

  • Error installing CS4 from downloaded .dmg file

I work for a company that receives upgrades from Adobe and most recently was given the downloadable CS4 upgrade from our IT department. When I went to open up the DesignPrem_CS4.dmg file it gives an error of "The following disk images failed to mount" reason "not recognized." Have you heard of this happening before?
We are currently running CS3 on Mac OS 10.5.6 which was installed from a CD. I've done some searching on this error, but the only thing I have found is that the file might be corrupt. We had IT download it again, but had the same issue. I've also tried to run the .dmg file through Disk Utility and tried to repair it without any success. Any thoughts on fixing this? Should we download directly to our Mac desktop? Could a file become corrupted by downloading to the Windows environment and then transferring over a network to the Mac?
    Thanks

    Hi Buko,
If it is a corrupt file, what steps can we take to insure that it doesn't happen again? Our IT department has downloaded it twice. Could it be the method or program in which they are downloading? What causes corrupt downloads?
    Thanks

  • Install Flash from CS5 on new Macbook Pro errors

    Hi,
I just tried to install my CS5 Master Collection on my new MacBook Pro. All the programs installed properly except Flash Pro. I understand why I have errors for Flash Player but the rest, I'm not sure how to move forward to get this installed. I tried opening Flash Pro anyway but it tells me to reinstall. I have tried 2 times now.
Any thoughts? I know I'm missing something or am I screwed since I'm using a Mac, which hates flash and CS6 is out on top of that factor?

  • Tried to install CS4 from DVD on windows 7 computer but serial number is not accepted

Have new PC with Windows 7 and want to install from DVD my CS4 application.
At stage where to enter the serial number it stops me as the serail number is not recognized, and yet it is 100% correct.
How can I overcome this problem?

Thank you Kglad for your support....
However it didn't get me what I wanted... to install my CS4...
Finaly I got it done however, and that may be of my unawareness of the download.
1> When downloading the files, one file has the extension. . 7z.
2> After downloading that file it is shown as a document file in my download directory.... I didn't know how to go about it..
3> Finally I got bright and checked on the internet what a . 7z file is and found that it is a zipped file in open source.
4> I downloaded the 7.Zip zipper software and ran that on the subject file
5> Guess what........ this opened the files and I proceeded to installCS4 without a flaw.
I am responding extensively to your kind reaction in the hope someone else, as me not so computer literate/smart,
will not loose several days to overcome this issue.
To contact Adobe Chat is also not constantly possible, so we were just waiting and waiting.
Adobe really should improve their support but maybe they are not interested much, as they may prefer to sell you their CLOUD solution.
Thank you for bearing with me.//Ko

  • CS4 to CS5 Upgrade has install/configuration problems ???

(My system is running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit )
    Awile back I purchased:
Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 (FULL version) on the Installable DVD's.
...and just recently, last week, I decided to bite the bullit, and go for the 64-bit CS5 version upgrade.
Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 (Upgrade version) -downloadable option (its cost $299.00 US)
Method 1./ Now, this seemed to be more of an installation/config issue for me. but after I ran the CS5 upgrade, it did NOT
    upgrade/change any of my Desktop icons/links ?
In other words, the same old CS4 Icons were on the desktop.
Instead, I had to goto C:\Program Files\Adobe\...CS5\..., and then create a shortcut to the CS5 executable onto my Desktop?
    Method 2./
ok, this so-called CS5 upgrade option obviously dos NOT work right.
So, I completely UN-installed CS4 and CS5, and started from scratch again, but this time I simply installed just
    the CS5 Upgrade binaries.
Well that seemed to work fine, and it also seemed to ievennstall all the 64-bit CS5 modules, though it also created some extra CS4 directories in C:\(x86)Program Files\Adobe... ? why would it do that ?
ok, well has anyone else also experienced any of this upgrade weirdness. ?
Note: I verified my Windows 7 64-bit was up-to-date, and I also "updated" CS5, actually it updates itself.
I have also had a couple "BLUE-screenies", and crashes" in CS5, none of which, in Windows I can really tell what is going on ?, and I never had these issues on CS4 on this same PC.?
I called the 1-800 number for Adobe Technical Support and basically they said the CS5 upgrade that I purchased should have worked fine. uhmmm ya'd think eh?
So, I thought this forum might be more "aware", and/or helpful regarding my Upgrading woes.
    any thoughts, would be appreciated.
    Thankyou.
    Rick.

An Adobe upgrade is an upgrade by price, only. What I mean is that you're buying a new, fully separate version of the Adobe software from whatever your previous version was, and upon installation, your previous version is left intact (hence the reason your icons did not change--CS4 was still installed).
An update, on the other hand (which is what the program automagically did), actually does replace files, but only in the version that you're updating. A semantic issue, perhaps, but an important distinction.
You can run CS4 and CS5 side-by-side if you like, but if you want to be rid of CS4 and maintain only CS5, you need to uninstall CS4--or preferably, reinstall from the OS up. I always like to start fresh when a new suite comes along.
