  • Do I need to install CS4 full version before installing CS5 upgrade?

New hard drive in iMac. I have a full version of CS4 design premium and an upgrade version of CS5. Do I have to install both? Or can I just install CS5 upgrade and somehow use my CS4 full serial number to validate the CS5?

You have the right idea.  You do not have to install CS4.  At some point during installation of CS5 you will be required to enter the serial number for CS4 in order to confirm it as a valid upgrade installation

  • Before I install CS4 (design standard) do I need to manually or otherwise remove CS1 (the original Creative Suite)?

Before I install CS4 (design standard) do I need to manually or otherwise remove CS1 (the original Creative Suite)?
I am using an iMac OS 10.5.8, 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 1 GB, 800 MHz. AllI know is that you can't upgrade from CS1.
I am in the misdt of several production projects and can't afford a mistake or down time. Thanks for any and all help.
P.S. Is Snow Leopard compatiable with CS4?
    Thanks, Compositor Rick

You can upgrade from CS1 to CS4. CS1 will be out of the upgrade path when CS5 is released.
You don't need to remove CS1 it does not conflict with CS4. I have CS1 through CS4 installed and playing nicely together.
CS4 is compatible but  I would stay with 10.5.8 until Apple gets most of the bugs worked out of Snow Leopard. that is usually about the 4th update.

  • Problems installing CS4 by flash/USB drive

I purchased the DVD-Roms late last year to install CS4. The programs successfully installed on my laptop, which recently died and is in the shop. But I never was able to install them on the desktop and would like to do so. When I put the DVDs into my DVD reader (which doesn't normally have problems reading things), it grinds away but cannot read the disks. My attempted solution was to copy the programs on a USB drive. In disc 1 I selected "autoplay" and most of the programs are installed but still not useable until I can get the second disc to also install.
Now I have a message, "Please insert Adobe CS4 Design Premium into drive E:\ to continue installation.
    - If I put the application disc 2 in the drive, it revs but does not actually read the disc.
    - On the USB folder sitting on my desktop for Application 2, my options are:
         -- extensions
         -- payloads
-- autorun (Which sounds good. But I click on it and it just opens a text editor that says [autorun] icon=cs4_designprem_disc.ico)
         -- cs4_designprem_disc (Opens to show an icon/graphic)
This is not a space issue because last time, I downloaded the "trial version" of CS4 from the website when it was available and then would manually enter my serial number. I wiped the hard drive. Now customer support says there are no links available online to CS4 since CS5 is soon available.
Any suggestions on how to get application disc 2 installed too, from the USB drive if possible?

Download on the iMac OS X Recovery Disk Assistant v1.0 and create a USB recovery disk.
Use that USB disk to boot your MBP retina.
Use the Terminal, that you find inside the recovery environment, to perform these commands
Verifiy that the main internal disk is labelled /dev/disk0
    diskutil list
this command will completely erase the internal disk. Please change /dev/disk0 if your is different, (it should not).
diskutil eraseDisk jhfs+ "Macintosh HD" GPT /dev/disk0
Verify that you just have 3 partition, no more Recovery HD partition
    diskutil list
    /dev/disk0
       #:                       TYPE NAME                    SIZE       IDENTIFIER
       0:      GUID_partition_scheme                        *500.1 GB   disk0
       1:                        EFI                         209.7 MB   disk0s1
       2:                  Apple_HFS Macintosh HD            499.2 GB   disk0s2
Quit Terminal and proceed with Reinstall Mac OS X
It'll take a lot of time, depending on the speed of your internet connection.
Please, do not hesitate to ask if you are in doubt

  • Having difficulty installing CS4 on OS X 10.8.3

    Hello,
I recently purchased a new iMac and redownloaded CS4 Design Premium onto the new computer. Photoshop, Illustrator, Bridge and Acrobat open perfectly, however InDesign will not and states that files are missing? Does anyone have any recommendations? I would rather not have to purchase CS6 and from what I've read about CC I don't think that option is the best for me as I am a freelancer and use these programs occasionally, not daily. Looking forward to hearing suggestions!

    Hi sjhgellman,
Please find the system requirements to install CS4: http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/system-requirements-cs4-point-products.html#main_ MacintoshSystemReqs .

  • Installing CS4 to Macbook Pro with Retina Display

Hi, I just got a Macbook Pro with the Retina Display and I have tried installing CS4 to it, but apparently the version of adobe air does not exist. I do not know if this has anything to do with the flash storage since adobe products do not work with it. I installed CS4 to my iMac just fine. I read on another forum that CS4 is not compatible with the Macbook Pro with Retina Display and there were people who suggested installing CS6.
However, I also read that adobe is just installing retina display support to the products in the upcoming Fall to some of the CS6 applications (not including InDesign, which I need). Should I switch to the Macbook Pro w/o Retina display?

Adobe CS4 applications do not work properly with Mountain Lion 10.8. See table:
    http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
CS6 works fine. I believe Adobe updated CS6 to work better with retina display. Check at the Adobe web site:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/catalog.html?promoid=KAWQI
Should you switch or not is your decision.

  • Is it possible to download and install CS4 if I have a serial number?

Is it possible to download and install CS4 if I have a serial number? I have just bought a IMac which doesn't come with a disc drive and I need to use my Photoshop asap but only have the software on disc. Can I download an older version of PS from the adobe site?

    Welcome to the forum.
The trail version of Ps CS4 is available at ProDesign Tools (http://prodesigntools.com/tag/ddl). Be VERY SURE to read the downloading instructions well, and follow them exactly.
Then, you can Activate that trial, by adding your S/N.
    Good luck,

  • Installing CS4 on a new computer.

I am trying to install CS4 onto a new imac I recently purchased. When I open the program it asks for the serial number for the CS4 product which I enter and get the green check mark. It then asks for an "Upgrade Check" this requires me to enter the product and serial number for which my version of CS4 was an upgraded version. I do not have the packaging or anything for the CS2 software this was an upgrade from, however it is still installed on my old computer. Is there anyway for me to be able to verify the serial number to install CS4 on my new computer. I have attached a screen shot of the second prompt screen. Please HELP!!

    Hi dillonpope7,
You need to contact customer service to unlock the serial number.

  • I want to download and install cs5 on a new macbook air.  (I already have it installed on my iMac)

I just got a new mac book air.  I want to download and install photoshop cs5 on the new laptop.  I already have purchased it and have it installed on my iMac desktop.
I tried moving my copy of PShop CS4 from my old mac book, but got an error code  150:30.  So I thought downloading CS5 from adobe would be easier.

Transfering will not work due to the way the software is tied in with the machine when it is installed.  You need to install it.
You can download the trial version of the software thru the page linked below and then use your current serial number to activate it.
Be sure to follow the steps outlined in the Note: Very Important Instructions section on the download pages at this site and have cookies enabled in your browser or else the download will not work properly.

  • Unable to install CS4 on a 2nd computer.

Seeking help installing CS4 on a 2nd computer.  I have CS4 on my desktop iMac (using OSX 10.7.5) and since I recently bought a MacBook Pro (using 10.8.3), I wanted to install it on there as well.  The only problem is that the MacBook Pro does not have a CD player.  To get around that, I put the CD contents on a USB Key.  I attempted to load CS4 on the MacBook Pro using the USB Key, but right off the bat it gave me an error when I double-clicked the SETUP folder:  "SETUP ERROR - Setup has encountered an error and cannot continue.  Contact Adobe Customer Support for assistance."  I tried this several times but got the same message.  I called Adobe however they were unable to help since it is an old version - they suggested I post the question here and see if someone can help.  The Adobe Rep did say that perhaps the Setup file was corrupted, but did not offer any further information beyond that.

    Noel:
Thank you so incredibly much - I sincerely appreciate your help!
I did just what you recommended and it worked perfectly!
For anyone else reading this with the same problem, here is how I did it:
I copied the entire Photoshop CS4 to a USB Key
plugged that in to my MacBook Pro
made a New Folder on the Desktop of the MacBook
copied all the items from the USB Key to the New Folder
dropped the New Folder into the Macintosh HD on the MacBook
then went to the Photoshop CS4 folder on the Macintosh HD
double-clicked on the SETUP folder, and voila - it worked!
Once I entered the serial number, the program downloaded and the only hitches were that it did not have the latest Adobe AIR version, so I had to go   to the Adobe site and download a new version of that at www.adobe.com/go/getair
I am so thankful - Adobe would not work with me since I had the older version of CS4, so I was faced with buying a new version of Photoshop, not being able to use it on my laptop, and possibly buying Aperture instead - none of which I really wanted to do.  So thanks again - you know your stuff and your help is greatly appreciated!  Sincerely,  Jimmy.

  • Installing CS4 remotely onto Macbook Air - disc 2 won't launch

I own CS4 Design Premium and have it installed on my iMac. I just recently bought a MacBook Air laptop and am trying to install it on there as well. However, the MacBook Air doesn't have a CD drive. So, I turned CD Sharing on on my iMac and connected via Remote Disc to the CS4 Installation CD (disc 1) on my laptop. Disc 1 worked fine, but then I was prompted to insert disc 2. So, I removed disc 1 and inserted disc 2 from my iMac, however the prompt doesn't go away. It gives me the options to either click "OK" or "Cancel installation". I clicked OK several times and nothing happened, so my only option was to cancel. Now I'm not sure what to do to get disc 2 installed. When I insert it, no installation is automatically launched...I only see two file folders on the disc....one that says "extensions" and one that says "payloads". Can anyone tell me where to go from here?

    then download the files:
if you follow all 7 steps, you can dl a trial via one of the links on this page:  http://prodesigntools.com/download-adobe-cs4-and-cs3-free-trials-here.html
and activate with your serial number.
if you have a dl problem, you didn't follow all 7 steps.  typically, failure to meticulously follow steps 1,2 and/or 3 is the problem.

  • Trouble installing CS4 onto Intel Mac

Good day to all, I have a problem.
I have an Intel Imac with OD 10.4.11 and am unable to install CS4 Design Premium. I have all external devices unpluged. The progress bar only gets this far (please see below) and then stops moving for hours. Any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks for the info. Previous attempts were all done w/o any apps running, and then in safe boot config just to waste some more time. Here's the log entry:

  • Installing CS4 Design Standard as an upgrade from CS Premium

I just got a shiny new iMac running Yosemite and when attempting to install, I get the dreaded Invalid Serial Number.
The serial number you entered does not match the product you selected. Please reenter the serial number or select a different product to upgrade.
I have both of these products and their corresponding discs and the serial numbers right in front of me. Any suggestions?

    Thanks Mandeep5062,
This led me to further investigation and I knew that I had to be missing something here. That something was that I had originally upgraded like this: CS>CS2>CS4.
I was inputting my CS serial number and needed my CS2 serial number for the upgrade.
And for some reason, I no longer have the discs or box for CS2. But, thanks to an old post-it note that I somehow managed to still have, I actually found my CS2 serial number!
I'm almost embarrassed that I did not figure this out sooner.
So, I have finally successfully installed CS4!
    Thanks for your help!

    Hi -
I was able to install it on another computer; and I just tried to install another program and the disc was also rejected. Think you are right - it is the optical drive. Had not thought of this!!
So, either get it repared, find an external drive to use or, maybe time for a new macbook pro!!
Thanks for all your help...funny how it is the most obvious of things...
