Installing CS5 Upgrade - Format the DVD?!

I bought the Photoshop CS5 upgrade today (from CS4) and have just put it into my CD/DVDROM drive. I can hear my laptop trying to read it, but to no avail. As I'm trying to access the DVD through Windows Explorer, it's telling me that I need to format the CD, that there's nothing on this DVD. My system meets all the requirements on the box, and my DVD drive is still playing other DVD's, so I'm not sure what's wrong here.

That's a driver issue in Windows. Check your device manager --> My Computer --> Right-click --> Manage -->System section --> Device manager. Verify that the DVD drive is not flagged as running in compatibility mode. If it is or anything else seems askew, right-click the drive, choose to uninstall. Then select the root level of the device tree, right-click and let Windows scan for new or changed devices. If the drive uses a vendor specific driver, have it handy.

  • Do I need to install CS4 full version before installing CS5 upgrade?

New hard drive in iMac. I have a full version of CS4 design premium and an upgrade version of CS5. Do I have to install both? Or can I just install CS5 upgrade and somehow use my CS4 full serial number to validate the CS5?

You have the right idea.  You do not have to install CS4.  At some point during installation of CS5 you will be required to enter the serial number for CS4 in order to confirm it as a valid upgrade installation

  • Can't install cs5 upgrade to cs3 on mavericks

I have cc subscription on my mbp2.5ghi5 2011 16gb/750SSD with 420 free. I tried to put my cs5 upgrade on the machine so that I could work with a new client who needs work in cs5. I couldn't install so I put cs3 back on the machine to give the upgrade software to " find". Still can't upgrade. I am running 10.9.2. CS3 installed fine, works ok, just put it there to get the cs5 on, and I can't get the upgrade installer to work. I can't wipe the 750SSd just for the sake of putting cs5 on temporarily, I need all the cs6 and cc software to keep working. I can't use the cleaner because it will damage the software I now have on there. Any ideas?

    I am posting a screenshot.
Now matter how many times I restart, I get this message. i am in the administrator account. As a test, I tried installing on a 2009 mac pro with a traditional sata drive, and it installed without incident. Remember, I can't wipe my 750 ssd drive, I have too much invested in it and on it and I can't take the weeks to get the adobe cc suite working again.
Is there a reason it won't install on an ssd drive?

  • Mac OS X cannot install on this computer read  install read me on the DVD ?

Bought a used MacBook with a intel Core 2 Duo 2.2 Ghz with 2 gig memory and it came running leopard 10.05.1 on it already want to do a clean install of Leopard. DVD takes me to the point where i chose my language then i get this error saying Mac OS X cannot install on this computer read the install read me on the DVD
    Any suggestions ?

If this is a retail copy of Mac OS X (not bundled with your mac), that may be the cause of your problem, especially if it was pre-installed with 10.5.1.
As far as I know, but I may be wrong, there is no 10.5.1 retail DVD (only 10.5.0), this could mean your mac is newer than the retail OS X DVD (10.5.0), and you have no other choice that using your Leopard DVD bundled with your machine, because your machine may have some hardware bot handled by the retail 10.5 DVD.

  • How do I install lion and format the hard drive?

How do I install lion and format the hard drive, as though this was a new mac.

If your Mac is a 2011 model and originally came with Lion Pre-Installed by Apple then you can use the Internet Recovery HD system to Wipe/Erase the Complete drive and Re-Install Lion.
If it is an older model, even and early 2011 model, that did NOT come with Lion Pre-Installed by Apple you can not sell or give it away with Lion installed on it. You have to install the original version of OS X on it.

  • Following having to erase the hard drive, I am attempting to re-install CS5 upgrade........

Following having to erase the hard drive, I am attempting to re-install CS5 from previously registered CDs as an upgrade to CS2. Although at the time of purchase, CS2 was acceptable, and the serial numbers of the NEW software remain registered on my 'account', the serial number of the original CS2 is now rejected as UN-acceptable, the oldest version now acceptable seeming to be CS3
    What do I do????

can you select cs2 as an upgradeable option in the dropdown box after entering your cs5 serial number?
if yes, use this serial number, Error: Activation Server Unavailable | CS2, Acrobat 7, Audition 3
if not,  contact adobe support by clicking here and, when available, click 'still need help', https://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html

  • Do I need to install CS3 on Windows 7 64 bit before installing CS5 Upgrade?

I am replacing a graphic designer's Windows Vista laptop with a Dell Precision T5500 desktop.  Do I need to uninstall CS3 from the laptop and decommission the serial number?  Then do I need to install CS3 on the new desktop before installing the CS5 upgrade?  I was told I needed to decommission the installation, but I don't remember having to do that with other installations.  Thanks in advance!

You should definetly deactivate any software before uninstalling. But you don't have to install CS3 in order to install CS5. Just have the serial number handy for verification. That said, depending upon the user's needs, you might want to leave CS3 available.

  • Installing CS5 Upgrade version  in a "clean"machine"

    * Maybe Adobe guys could chip in on this one please (as well as the early adopters in the same situation). *
REASON: I just ordered the base hardware of a new system  I7 - 64 bit OS etc.....
I do not intend to load CS4 into it at all because I want a really clean machine from the get go with CS5 and I do not want to uninstall CS4 from my current system at all.  It needs to keep working while I break in CS5 and the new system.
QUESTION: I wonder what process will be involved when installing an Upgrade Version of CS5 in a brand new machine that wont have CS4 installed at all. Usually the S/W goes looking for an installed qualifying version.  Because of the move to brand new systems and hardware in this release...I expect many users apart from me, will need to know this.
This question is a little premature but I am getting prepared and it will be worth knowing at some point..
We wont see CS5 down here in New Zealand for a little time after the U.S guys get it I suspect on past history. This is not a bad thing actually.

Often (sadly, not always) an upgrade will allow you to install by (1) putting a previous disc in the drive or (2) entering the previous install key
If nobody answers before you receive your install discs, those are the 2 things you could try

  • Installing cs5 upgrade without previous

We are trying to install CS5 that was purchased as an upgrade. We were previously using CS3 and no longer have the serial number or installation media for CS3. Is there any way to install CS5 still or do we have to purchase the software again? We have CS5 working on our old Mac still but I don't see where I can obtain the information from it. We were able to restore the applications on our new Mac using Time Machine but it brought over a few issues we were having with the old Mac.
Let me know how we should proceed.

Snewm for the first step I would recommend locating your missing serial number.  Without the serial number you will be unable to reinstall and correct your current difficulties.
You can find details on how to locate the registered serial number at Find your serial number quickly.

  • Installing CS5 Upgrade on Brand New Mac

I installed my recent upgrade of Photoshop for Mac on my new MacBook Pro.  Understandably, the dialogue box appeared asking for the serial number to the Photoshop I happend to be upgrading.  BUT THEN, once I consulted the original box to my Photoshop CS3 Estended, selected that product, and entered its serial number, both WITH and/WITHOUT the hyphens, The page puts up a caution sign, saying that it isn't a serial number for a qualifying product.  WRONG, it is, HONESTLY, a qualifying serial number, which I bought directly from Adobe.  Now I'm just stuck, and cannot use my legitimate product.

    Several possibilities:
1.— You are making an error when typing the old serial number, such as typing an O (letter O) for 0 (zero), or viceversa, or 5 (five) for S (letter S), etc.; or
2.— The old version may be Photoshop Extended and the new one Standard, in which case you need to contact Customer Service for new serial numbers; or
3.— You are attempting to upgrade from the whole CS3 Suite to just the Photoshop CS5 point application, in which case you are severely out of luck, as that is not allowed.  You can only upgrade to the whole suite again, not to an individual point application.
As the previous post implies, you need to contact Adobe customer service.  You are not addressing Adobe here in the user to user forums.

  • Help installing CS5 upgrade on a new PC please

I have a new PC running Windows 7 x64 Pro and want to transfer CS5 from my old machine.  This was installed using CS5 upgrade, my previous version being CS2 upgrade and before that I was using a full copy of PS6.  I still have all the discs and licences.  Should I install again starting from PS6, then CS2 upgrade, then CS5 upgrade?  Does anyone know if Windows 7 x64 will install the now-ancient PS6?  Or is there another way?  I want to get it right first time, having suffered a corrupted identity on my old XP machine, which I never managed to fix.
    Thanks.

Hi, You don't have to install all the previous versions.
You just have to install CS 5 and then you will be prompted for serial number for the same and then it will ask the serial number for the previous version (CS2)
You should be able to then install successfully.

  • Installing cs5 upgrade on new pc

i cannot install the upgrade cs5 on my new pc and adobe site dose not have my serial number for cs2 on the my product pages. my old pc with these on is busted so i cannot get it there
any ideas ... i need to solve this asap thanks all

In my opinion you have to contact Adobe support with the proof of purchase of your cs2 , if you have bought nad lost the serial number they can help you.,
once this will be clarified I believe you can go ahead and install cs5 upgarde.

  • Install CS5 UPGRADE from cs2 on Windows 8

I just purchased a Windows computer running Windows 8, and I want to install on it CS 5. But the CS 5 I have is an upgrade, so it won't install unless I have CS2 (my previous version) already on the computer, and CS2 won't install on Windows 8. What do I do?

unless I have CS2 (my previous version) already on the computer,
You don't need to have CS2 installed.
If the CS5 upgrade installer cannot find an earlier qualifying version installed then it will prompt you to enter the CS2 serial number instead.

  • Uninstalling CS3 after installing CS5 upgrade

Is it necessary to uninstall CS3 after installing a new copy of CS5 upgrade?  For the sake of not eating up storage space?  Or does CS5 depend on files CS3 has already in place?  I'd like to get Bridge CS3 off my computer since Bridge CS5 is now installed. And CS3 is not appearing in the Add/Remove dialog in Control Panel (Win XP Pro)

Please read this and this. In short: Attempting to remove older versions after the fact is ill advised. It's calling for trouble, especailyl with the fragile CS3 installers. Read the articles and obey proper procedures. Otherwise jsut leave the old version in place.
