  • I cannot install Discoverer, problem of the OraHome

    Hi
I have problem with instalation of the discoverer 3.1 or 3i.
I have instaled the database Oracle8i on default OraHome with name 'OraHome81' and I use more than one OraHome. One for WebDB with name 'OraHomeWDB' and one for OAS 4.0 with name 'OraHomeAS'
I want to install Discoverer on the same maschine but when I create another one OraHome for example with name 'OraHomeDV' it says that Discoverer do not support the nultiple instalation and therfore it cannot be instaled on orahome 'OraHomeDV'. It can be only instaled on orahome 'OraHome81'.
When I install the Discoverer to orahome 'OraHome81' it says that this place "d:\...\orahome81" is stil as orahome for 'Oracle 816 Production' and it cannot be used for orahome for 'nt'
Does anybody know how can I install Discoverer?
    null

    Look at the note below
    PURPOSE
This document describes how to install Discoverer 3.1 for Windows or Discoverer
3i server on machines where Oracle 8i, or another product installed using the
    Oracle Universal Installer already exists.
Installing Discoverer when Oracle 8i already installed.
If you try and install Discoverer (either Discoverer 3.1 for Windows or Discoverer
3i Application Server) on a machine where Oracle 8i (or some other product which
uses the Oracle Universal Installer) already exists you will see the following
    error message or something similar:
"Discoverer User Edition does not support multiple installations, and therefore
cannot be installed on 'Default_Home'. It can only be installed on 'OraHome8i'.
In order to install Discoverer User Edition, please run Oracle Installer again,
and select 'OraHome8i'as the target location.",
where Default_Home is the name of the standard Oracle home and OraHome8i is the
name of the Oracle Home for Oracle 8i.
If you do as the message says, you then get the error, or something similar:
"The location specified, 'd:\oracle8i', is already used as an Oracle home for
'Oracle 816 Production'. It cannot be used as an Oracle home for 'nt'."
where d:\oracle8i is the directory of OraHome8i.
You need to install Discoverer in a non-8i home; so in the example above, in the
Oracle Home in the Orant directory rather than in the one in the oracle8i directory.
The problem is that in the registry, the value for the Default_home key has been
set to the Oracle 8i home. You need to change this to point to the standard
Oracle home. Back-up your registry before editing it.
    - Run REGEDT32.EXE or REGEDIT.EXE from the command prompt to open the registry and
    edit it.
    - Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE\ALL_HOMES and change the value
of DEFAULT_HOME from OraHome8i to Default_Home (or whatever is appropriate in
    your situation).
    - From the 'Oracle for Windows NT' program group, run the Oracle Home Selector
and select Default_Home. The Oracle Home Selector just makes this home appear
first in your path environment variable.
You shouldn't run into this problem if you create the Default_Home before the one
for Oracle 8i. But if Oracle 8i is already installed, you might find it best to
de-install all Oracle products, delete the registry entries and then re-install, but
    create the Default_Home first.
    Hope this helps

    Hi
The easiest way to get a fully working TNSNAMES in a version 4 environment is to use the Net 8 Configuration utility.
    Here's a workflow:
    1. From the Start button, select Start | Oracle for Windows NT | Oracle Net8 Easy Config
    2. When it starts, check Add New Service and in the little box to the right type the name by which you want this connection to be known
    3. Click the Next button
    4. Select TCP/IP (Internet Protocol) and click the Next button
    5. Enter the fully qualified domain name or IP address of the server that contains the database
    6. In Port, enter the port number - it defaults to 1521
    7. Click the Next button
8.In Database SID enter the name of the database, then click the Next button
    9.Click the Test Service button
    10. Provide a username and password for an account on the database, then click the Test button
    11. If you see: Connecting.... The test did not succeed you got the username/password combination wrong or some other part of the setup
    12. When you see: Connecting.... The connection test was successful click the Done button
    13. Click the Next button
    14. Click the Finish button
You should now have a valid TNSNAMES connection for use by Discoverer 4
    Best wishes

  • Report service is not working after install Discoverer..............

    Hello,
I have installed Oracle Developer Suite 10gR2 (Forms/Reports) on my desktop, they were both working fine for a long time. I installed Discoverer 10gR2 (Administrator and Desktop) on the same machine recently. The Oracle Forms is still good, I can run forms on the local machine after I start OC4J instance. But the Reports is always hanging, even Showjobs. I can access http://host:port/reports/rwservlet, but anything under that is not working, hanging.......
    Please help! Thanks in advance.

    Hello,
The problem may be a PATH problem.
Start the reports server after having set the PATH :
    set ORACLE_HOME=d:\oracle\ods1012
    set PATH=%ORACLE_HOME%\jdk\jre\bin\classic;%ORACLE_HOME%\jdk\jre\bin;%ORACLE_HOME%\jdk\jre\bin\client;%ORACLE_HOME%\jlib;%ORACLE_HOME%\bin;%ORACLE_HOME%\jdk\bin;%ORACLE_HOME%\jre\1.4.2\bin\client;%ORACLE_HOME%\jre\1.4.2\bin;

  • Installing Discoverer 4i with Apache

    Hi,
Is it possible to install Discoverer 4i with Apache webserver and Jserv as servlet engine? I had been trying it for a couple of times and I fail with oadutil giving me the error message ".exe should be in the path". WHich exe is it referrring to?
I am trying to install 4i on a Win 2K professional machine with:
    1. Oracle 8i.
Issue - Since Discoverer wouldnt install in the same directory as 8i, I installed Discovere 4i plus and Discoverer administrator into c:\Oracle as DEFAULT_HOME. I then installed 8i, and 8i wont install in DEFAULT_HOME, hence I installed 8i in c:\Oracle\Ora81 and named it ORACLE_HOME.
    2. I installed Apache 1.2 as web server and installed JServ as Servlet engine.
    3. I loaded all the client files into home folder.
    Please advice.
    Thank you in advance.

I got this error when running on win2k. I dont know about 4i, but the documentation for 3i says that it is supported on NT, not 2k. When we loaded NT, this error went away and all has been smooth since.

The bin file should have the JDK with it. The zip file is the one that says that
you need the JDK1.3.x to install.. The problem was that the tmp space on the
Unix machine was to small. When using the information supplied in the install
about creating the extra tmp space seemed to make the install hang. Today I had
the Unix guy increase the default tmp space and the install ran fine. So something

I pulled my brains out trying to figure this bug out and I may have a solution for you.
All of it installed fine in my desktop, but a friend's laptop got the error you mentioned on quicktime, itunes, flash, officeXP and about anything else I tried to load for him.
If you look in: C:\documents and settings\<username>\Local Settings\Temp there will be an iTunes install log...open it in Notepad and see if it isn't exiting with a 1619 error while running msiexec.exe
If this is the case, this fix should work for you.
Seems some configurations of XP (and possibly Vista) aren't allowing full administrator rights to the account you set up when you installed XP (even though User Editor says you do have those rights.)
I read 2 MS articles and turned off simple file sharing, then gave ownership of the entire C: drive to the administrator. Logged the admin account off, logged his "admin" account in, and then gave rights to his personal directory to his account (c:\docs and settings\<username>)
Once I did that, every install that had previously errored out performed flawlessly.
    The MS articles in question:
    http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=316309 (1619 error)
    and
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=308419 (how to set special permissions)
    Hope this helps!

A bit of repetition, mainly for the benefit of anyone else with the same issue. In your case the "for older video cards" version might be worth a try.
When cleaning folders you need to check both the Program Files and Program Files (x86) folders, which you may well have done but didn't mention in the detail above.
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The section Install missing components has advice on breaking down the iTunes installer into the individual .msi files which might prove useful if Apple Mobile Device Support won't install normally.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for performance issues or compatibility with third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

What OS will your Garmin work with? Funny there was someone else that did that and upgraded to Yosemite and regretted it.
I'd say Lion if your Garmin is compatible.

  • Erase and install?? a few problems...

Hello. This is going to be a long one, so you might as well get a fresh cup.
A little history. I started with a G4 Powerbook (10.4.11) some number of years ago. In November of last year I got a 24" iMac. Turned it on, set it up with a new user named "swank" (the same as on on powerbook.) After this, I realized I wanted to bring my old user over from the lappy. Using migration assistant, I tried to do this. I can't remember exactly, but I'm pretty sure that because there was already a user named "swank", I had to change the one I was bring in. So, I changed it to "swanks." I also made a user for my girlfriend.
So, for a long time I used m$ office 2004 on the lappy. Then I upgraded to 2008. Everything worked fine and dandy. Then I moved over to the iMac. Not so fine and dandy anymore. Word works just fine, but PP and Excel have issues with saving documents. If I email a doc to myself from school, I can open it and view it just fine.
(on edit: actually, this is not true. I'm going over the details below and realized that I can access a file from a thumb drive, etc, but not email)
BUT, if I save it afterwards or save it from the email BEFORE opening it, it disappears somewhere into the ether. I eventually found out where this "ether" place is, but that will come later. I tried to reinstall office a couple times, to no avail. So I went to the local Mac store (non-corporate) the other day and talked with one of the techs about it. He told me about some files that needed to get deleted along with the uninstall. I did that a couple times, did a repair disk from the install disk (per the techs request as well), restarted between doing everything, etc, etc. Once convinced all was clear, I reinstalled office 2008. AAAAHHHHHH. SAME THING!!!! I don't get it. I don't want to talk with m$. I tried that once. It failed.
Now I am wondering about starting ALL over from scratch. I'm not sure how to proceed from this point though. I have a time machine backup (250 gb of stuff from myself and my gf) and I have a bootcamp partion (that time machine has NOT been backing up.) So I guess my questionS are:
    1. can I do an erase and install on JUST the mac partition?
    2. once reinstalled, will I be able to pick and choose stuff off the time machine disk? Or do I have to simply restore completely from it (which at this point I would rather not)?
    3. is step #2 a good idea (bringing in individual files, if possible)? Or will this possibly bring in the corrupted-ness that I am currently experiencing?
    4. is there a way to do this without a clean install?
    Details of office problem:
    1. I open a document (new)
    2. Type anything
    3. Save
    4. Right click on file name at top of window
(this is what I was referring to as the "ether." *WHY IN GOD'S NAME WOULD SOMETHING GET SAVED HERE?* Even though I specified that it get saved in "Documents"?????
    5. Bang head against wall
    1. I ATTEMPT to open a document saved when office worked
    2. 1 of 2 things will happen:
    OR
(No matter WHAT file I try to open, only the last document I made will open, AND it will be called "juan")
    2. Bang head against wall
Anyway, if you've made it this far, your are brave. Maybe you have advice. Thanks for listening.
    Dave
Also, now, after erasing the m$ stuff, when I open a finder window in the user "swanks", the one I mainly use, the window for "swank" shows up. You know, with all the little red circle with white line through it things on the bottom right corner of a folder?? What the heck?

Before erasing the volume and reinstalling, there are a few things you might want to try first, which are less disruptive:
    1. Force Office to generate new preference files. Go to /Users/swanks/Library/Preferences. Create a folder called "Microsoft_old". Drag the folder /Users/swanks/Library/Preferences/Microsoft into the new Microsoft_old folder. Drag all files in your preferences folder which begin with "com.microsoft" in there as well. Relaunch PowerPoint and test it out. You may find it was just a wonky prefs file causing the behavior. If you aren't seeing it in any other application, this is pretty likely.
    2. Test the opening/saving behavior of powerpoint in the new user account. If it is fine, then you can just move your files over from one user to the other. There are a few ways of doing this, but the simplest is probably to put everything you want into the /Users/Shared folder and change ownership to your new user account via the Get Info window or the Terminal, if you are comfortable in the command line (using chown -R is usually faster and more reliable than using the Sharing & Permissions section of the Info window, in my experience). Also, you can use your girlfriend's account to test this - does PowerPoint work as expected when she is logged in?
If a new user account behaves the same way, then you probably have deeper issues than just preference problems. At that point you may want to consider rebuilding the OS.
    To answer your questions directly:
    1. can I do an erase and install on JUST the mac partition?
Yes. You do not have to touch the Boot Camp partition when reinstalling Mac OS X. When booted from the install disc, you will have
    2. once reinstalled, will I be able to pick and choose stuff off the time machine disk? Or do I have to simply restore completely from it (which at this point I would rather not)?
Yes. When you browse your Time Machine Backup (with the fancy space-warp background), you can select individual files/folders to restore. It will prompt you to select a location where you want to restore the files.
    3. is step #2 a good idea (bringing in individual files, if possible)? Or will this possibly bring in the corrupted-ness that I am currently experiencing?
I don't think you are dealing with actual file corruption, more likely broken preferences or damaged defaults. I wouldn't be worried about bringing over any non-OS files.
    4. is there a way to do this without a clean install?
See above. Those are the things I would try first, before you do a clean install.
I hope this helps. If you have any questions, post and I'll try to answer.

If it is a program for Windows you will not be able to install it.
If you nedd that program you can either buy the equivalent for Mac or install a way to run Windows under Mac (may be a cheaper solution)
