Installing diskless client on solaris 10 1/06 failure

I have a freshly downloaded version of solaris 10 installed and am trying to get the diskless client installed on it. I'm having the following failure:-
# ./smosservice add -H destiny:898 -- -o destiny \
-x mediapath=/export/install/sparc_10 \
-x platform=sparc.sun4u.Solaris_10 \
-x cluster=SUNWCXall -x locale=en_GBAuthenticating as user: root

Login to destiny as user root was successful.
Download of com.sun.admin.osservermgr.cli.OsServerMgrCli from destiny:898 was successful.
Failed to create clone area /export/root/clone/Solaris_10/sun4u.
Are there any patches needed to get this installed or any workarounds?

In my case I solve this when I realised that the diskless client software existed on all the disks and not just the first disk. Once I'd installed the software off all of the disks it worked as it should.
The software for the client is not in the same directory on every disk:-
Disk 2. /cdrom/cdrom0/s0/Solaris_10/Tools/add_to_install_servers
Disk3. /cdrom/cdrom0/Solaris_10/Tools/add_to_install_servers
Disk 4. /cdrom/cdrom0/Solaris_10/Tools/add_to_install_servers
Disk 5. /cdrom/cdrom0/Tools/add_to_install_servers
Hope this helps.

  • Installing Oracle 9i in Solaris 10

    Hi
    I have a server having OS Solaris 10 SPARC Edition 64 bit. I want to install Oracle 9i client in that server. I have seen in many forums ppl saying that Oracle 9i is not compatible with Solaris 10 and there are some issues related to patches.
    Can anyone help me in this matter.
    Thanks and Regards

    Thanks for your replies guys.
    I successfully installed Oracle9i client in Solaris 10. Initially I had to set up the Kernel parameteres as Prajeevan has suggested. Later the installation was quite staright forward and same as for Linux server.
    Thanks for giving your precious time for replying to my query.

  • Installing Oracle Virtual Directory Manager client on Solaris 10

    Hi,
    While installing Oracle Virtual Directory Client on solaris 10, I am getting
    "ovidm1014.bin : /tmp/install.dir.<number>/linux/resource/jre/bin/java: cannot execute" error while initiating the installer.
    Can someone look into the message and advice me in overcoming the issue as we are held up on this for three days?

    Thanks

    Hi,
    Thanks once again for reply!!
    If you already installed Oracle Virtual Directory Manager on Sun SPARC, can you brief us pre-requisite setting and installation steps, so that we can follow the same.
    Because, we are getting error in the initialization of installation process itself. So, I think there must be some configuration settings to be made.
    We already raised SR (Service Request) with Oracle, bu there is no reply from their side till now.
    I am waiting for your reply ASAP

  • Request for info on wide install of Client 8.1.7

    Hi friends,
    We are on the road to install Oracle Client 8.1.7 software on several hundreds of PCs...
    The basic idea is to set up a stage area (products.jar with sub-directories) on a http server and use that as a source location for OUI (v1.7.1.9.0).
    The question is: How do you distribute the OUI (Universal Installer) and what should be included in an OUI "environment? This environment is what the users have to install locally first to be able to run OUI (perhaps in silent mode) and install the Client 8.1.7.
    What parameters should be set in oraparam.ini?
    Any Client host OS environment variables?
    What files are needed? E.g. "oracle.swd.oui" and "oracle.swd.jre" files?
    etc... etc...
    Any help is appreciated :)
    Fredrik

    One person I talked to said to make sure LD_LIBRARY_PATH included /oracle/product/8.1.7./rdbms/lib/. However, that didn't help. James,
    Because the path of /oracle/product/8.1.7./rdbms/lib/ depends on the location of ORACLE_HOME you set, it doesn't sound like a pre-installation setting. It's not mentioned in the manual anyway.
    You may want to check to see if the following commands are on the installation user (oracle)'s PATH.
    $ /usr/bin/which make
    $ /usr/bin/which ar
    $ /usr/bin/which ld
    $ /usr/bin/which nm
    Also it's mentioned in the manual:
    ===============================================================
    Note: If you require /usr/ucb in your search path, make sure it
    comes after /usr/ccs/bin in the PATH setting.
    ===============================================================
    I set up a 8.1.7 on Solaris 8 but didn't have such a problem.
    Best luck,

  • Stuck for 2 weeks on diskless client

    I have signed up with 5 different forums. None of them seemed active. I haven't gotten a single answer. I'm going to try to explain as best as I can what my problem is. I am new to linux and I am using Solaris 10 (newest update).
    I am attempting to make a diskless client. Here are the settings:
    ultramain: this is the OS server (Ultra 60). Everything is set correctly. I have checked ethers, hosts, and all other files relating to diskless booting.
    ip: 120.3.2.250
    broadcast: 120.3.2.255
    netmask: 255.255.255.0
    sf3800-up: this is the system controller of the client
    ip: 120.3.2.41
    gateway: 120.3.2.250
    netmask: 255.255.255.0
    the client is a sun fire 3800.
    It is called sf3800-a in the /etc/hosts file.
    The mac address is right in the ethers file.
    I am attempting to boot up sf3800-a through telnet.
    I have a hub. One ethernet cable goes from ultaserver to the hub, an other from the system controller to the hub, and an other one from sf3800-a to the hub.
    I telnet the system controller fine. I access the console and run show-nets.
    I proceed to boot. It finds the ip address fine. Cursor rotates for a while and it just stops. Cursor becomes blank and just flashes. I have snooped from the OS server. Everything loads up fine at first. All tftp data blocks load up fine. Then the client tries to get an ip for the OS server and finds it okay. It freezes on this line:
    "sf3800-a -> ultraserver SYSLOG R port=32801".
    After around 30 mins it goes through 2 more lines in snoop:
    "120.3.2.41 -> ultraserver Telnet R port=32817 Using RARP/BOOTPARAMS"
    "ultraserver -> 120.3.2.41 Telnet C port=32817".
    I also tried to verbose the boot.
    It freezes here:
    "Found 120.3.2.250 @ 8:0:20:c3:a7:65"
    I also have used in.rarp in debug mode. It finds the addresses find.
    Now here's the real puzzling thing. I can get out of this hang mode by pinging the client (120.3.2.50) from the ultraserver. Right after that, the cursor starts spinning again and everything boots up fine.
    WTF is the problem? I've searched to no ends. I reinstalled Solaris many times from different ISO's. I have switched the ethernet cables. I have changed memory. Changed hubs. Checked every files. Re-done smosservice + smdiskless. Stopped and restarted the daemon services over and over again.
    I just started with this. I have never used Solaris. Only windows. I know I'm missing something really easy. I was thinking that the addresses are maybe not setup right? I also don't have a defaultrouter address in /etc. I doubt that could cause a problem.
    Please, I beg you. Help me. Help a out.
    PS:
    I have left the system while it was hung over night. This morning, it did load up. Is there a way to diagnose which file it is getting stuck on?

    I think that the situation is different, depending on whether your broadband was supplied via cable, or a separate phone line. I believe that some parts of the cable network are still analogue, so a separate copper pair is needed for phone and broadband.
    In the latter case, then a MAC code would be needed, for BT to release the "tag" on the line.
    It should not be needed on a cable service, if the phone and broadband come down the cable, as BT have no involvement.
    If you are in that category, then you should have specified that you did not have a BT phone line, or broadband. You would not have needed a MAC code.
    What category were you in?
    There are some useful help pages here, for BT Broadband customers only, on my personal website.

  • EMC Replication Manager Client on Solaris 10 Zone?

    Hello,
    Hoping I could find out if anyone out there has had success running EMC's Replication Manager (client) on a Solaris zone where an Oracle database is running, and how it was installed. Normally we install 3rd party software on the Global host /opt, and then call the libs, etc, from the zone (the global host's /opt is made readable to the zone). An obvious solution would be to install the client directly within the zone, but should we need to add another zone for redundancy purposes (two hosts running one database each, should one host go down, we'd migrate it's zone w/ the other database over to the other host), we would have to install the EMC client (again), rather than being able to just call the same deployment from the Global host from within the new zone.
    Any info or links to info would be appreciated. I tried searching around but didn't find anything.

  • Diskless client help.

    The diskless client starts to boot. I am booting via telnet. I am using snoop to see what's going on from the main server. Rarp responds with the correct ip address. The cursor starts to spin for a while and stops. On snoop it stops and says "syslog R port=32772". Then after a minute it keeps going. Server and client talk for a while then it stops again. Cursor on telnet is still not rotating. There is no way to get the client to boot unless I ping it in an other console. I ping and the cursor starts rotating again and the client finally boots. What in the world is wrong. I've been stuck on this for a week. I just started using unix and Solaris. I need serious help. I'd really appreciate it if someone could help me live on msn or aim. Help me please!

  • Subversion Client on Solaris v10 With Containers

    Hi,
    I am hoping if you could assist me. I have been sent round in circles.
    we currently have a solaris v10 setup where we have a server and multiple containers(virtual machines) .. Now when we normally install a client s/w we will install it on the server and then it will filter through the various conatiners.
    I need to know if subversion client supports this? If i install the client on teh main server, will it prompt me to filter down to the various containers? Will it ask me ehcih containers i want to filter down to ?
    Your help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks Kindly

    The syntax of ldapclient changed in Solaris 9 (at least by 9 12/03). You now specify it like this:
    # ldapclient -v init -a profileName=cn=myProfile,ou=profile,dc=example,dc=comIf you're using Proxy Authentication add the following:
    -a proxyDN=cn=proxyagent,ou=profile,dc=example,dc=com -a proxyPassword=ClearTextPWYou should have been able to create a profile (storing it in the DIT) when you ran idsconfig. If you took the default name of "default" (cn=default,ou=profile,dc=example,dc=com) you might not even have to specify the profile name to ldapclient.
    To generate a new profile and store it in the DIT use:
    $ ldapclient -vgenprofile -a profileName=cn=myProfile,ou=profile,dc=example,dc=com -a defaultSearchBase=dc=example,dc=com ...With your various attributes for your profile as specified in ldapclient(1M).
    As for pam, you have to decide which you're going to use: pam_unix or pam_ldap. Note that the Solaris pam_ldap is very different from the PADL pam_ldap used under Linux and elsewhere (this makes it easy to find apparently conflicting advice).

  • Where to download client for Solaris - Need for 10.2.0.2

    I need to install a client on a Solaris sparc server.
    I am trying to find the client for 10.2.0.2
    So far I have had no luck.
    Appreciate the help

    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/oracle10g/htdocs/10201sol64soft.html
    I don't think there a client version with 10.2.0.2 available yet. You may have to install 10.2.0.1 client software and then patch it to 10.2.0.2 using the regular RDBMS patch (there is no 10.2.0.2 for client alone). I did this some time back.

  • Look for SFTP client for Solaris 10x86

    We need an SFTP client which supports logins with and without passwords for sending files to remote SFTP sites.
    Up until now, we have been using a combination of Perl, Expect and sftp command but need a better solution.
    Have been unable to install into Perl the SFTP modules (Lots of problems with SSHA packates) to use it directly without Expect.
    I see a few (very few) commercial packages like one from tectia.com but am looking for perhaps an open source solution.

    You should be able to use the scp command (which is a part of ssh client on solaris, linux or cygwin/windows) in conjunction with the key based authentication
    For example, if you want a scheduled job as user1 on machine1 to be able to upload a file to a directory owned by user2 on machine2:
    On machine1, run ssh-keygen as user1 to create the RSA key pair (do not enter as password .)
    On machine2, as user2, cd .ssh, add user1's public key to the authorized_keys file.
    e.g.
    ssh-rsa dWU+bihN7kYFYoQ5ycNiIl2urtzdS5GNcCtMSz
    Nykgylo4ccfoAhJhAOVS3htN6hTXk45O9xrpLFrC7BzAq
    aQiuuKTgxT0mOVmzFjTozwQIQmy9EUt= user1@machine1
    Also, update /etc/ssh/sshd_config with
    RSAAuthentication yes
    you will need to ssh from user1 to machine2 and as user2 to machine1 to make sure the known_hosts file for each user gets updated
