Installing EM agents with multiple oracle owners

Hi
I am planning to install and configure EM Grid Control in my environment. How many agents do I need to configure if I have several oracle software owners on a server e.g.
server1:
- oracle9 for Oracle 9i database
- oracle10 for Oracle 10gR1 database
- oracle102 for Oracle 10gR2 database
server2:
- ora1 for Oracle 9i DB
- ora2 for Oracle 9i DB
- ora3 for Oracle 10gR2 DB
Do I have to install 3 agents on each server (agent per Oracle software owner) or do I have to install only 1 agent per server?
Regards,
Jarek

Hi
there is no central inventory. We are modifying it for every Oracle installation. Therefore we have several /var/opt/oracle/oraInst.loc* files. There is one file per Oracle OS user. So it is as I wrote - each installation has its own inventory in:
/oracle/app/<ORACLE_SID>/oraInventory location
BTW. It's HP-UX and oraInst.loc is in /var/opt/oracle/ directory.

  • Shared cluster with multiple oracle homes

    Hi All,
    I got to build a shared oracle RAC cluster with multiple oracle home installation ( 10g R1 , 10g R2 , and 11g R1 & 2).
Of course the cluster ware will be version 11.2, but I wondered if there is any dependency on how I install oracle software? Do I have to start with 10g installation first? can I do 11g and then 10g?
Is there anything I should be aware of ?

I installed Oracle Application Server Enterprise which includes AS, Database, OID, Web Cache, SSO etc. and OSES on the same machine. Everything works except I think the windows version of OSES and AS need some patches so the crawler isn't working right. Everything does, however, install and run. I think Oracle develops everything in Linux (rumors of them now using Solaris) so on Linux everything should go smoother.

  • Installing windows games with multiple discs

When I am trying to install a windows PC game with multiple discs, the install starts out ok, then it asks to insert disc #2. I'm using a Mac Mini, booted into Windows XP SP3. Since there is no manual disk eject button like on a PC machine, how can I eject the current disc in the Mini disk drive to be able to insert the next installation disc?

I guess when you boot into windows the disc eject key on the apple keyboard doesn't work. But, I found a solution! While installing the game and the message screen came up to install the next disc, I hit the apple/cmd key on my apple keyboard and it brought up the WinXP Start menu. I then opened up the My Computer window and right-clicked on the CD drive, clicked on eject and the disc popped out! I inserted the next disc and the install continued automatically.
I love being able to run Windows on my Mac. It makes using Windows sometimes almost bearable.

  • Automating OS install in WDS with multiple boot image

Hi, can someone explain to me if it is possible to completely automate a windows install in WDS with 3 different install and boot image. I am new to this and trying to learn everything i can.
I have 3 unattended files attributed to each install.wim already (and they work fine) and 1 unattended file for Windows Deployment Services.
my problem is as soon as the client PC PXE boot, I'm presented with 3 options in boot manager, maybe because i have 3 boot.wim files (from what i understand). after i pick which boot option
i want to use, i don't have to do anything anymore and windows is installed, the disk is partitioned and a user account is created.
    https://drive.google.com/file/d/0ByIjtLJtT3oHaTFLcF9mWldnZmM/edit?usp=sharing
Is it possible to have an unattend file that will help me bypass the 3 options  to make the process completely automated.
Can i create a script for a type of PC or brand of PC, so that the deployment server can see what type of PC or what brand of PC it is and automatically pick the boot file for that pc and automate the rest of the install. (maybe another software that can help
me do that, or i need to put something on the client computers so that they themselves pick the appropriate boot options)
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

If you are new to deployment you should really learn the recommended way to deploy os:es.
You should use MDT (Microsoft Deployment Toolkit)

  • Discoverer 3.1.x Install on NT with Personal Oracle 8i

Can Discoverer 3.1.x be installed on a Windows NT machine that already has Personal Oracle 8i (8.1.6) installed on it? If so, how?
The Discoverer Installer posts some contradictory error messages when I try to do this.
First, if I try to install Discoverer to a separate ORACLE_HOME, the Installer tells me that the Installer does not support multiple installations and that Discoverer must be installed in the same ORACLE_HOME as the existing Oracle8i.
But when I rerun the installation trying to use the existing Oracle8i ORACLE_HOME, the Installer tells me that this ORACLE_HOME directory is already being used for "Oracle 816 Production" and that "It cannot be used as an Oracle home for 'nt'".
This is an odd contradiction. IMHO, it seems that Discoverer and Personal Oracle 8i would be a rather natural pairing, and that Oracle Corp would be interesting in having these 2 products be able to co-exist on the same machine.
The Install.wri notes (July99) do indicate that Discoverer 3.1 cannot be installed on the same machine as Personal Oracle 8.0.3 but can be installed alongside 8.0.4. Also, in another posting (http://technet.oracle.com:89/ubb/Forum16/HTML/000117.html) in this Discussion Group, it would appear that Discoverer 3.1 can be installed with Oracle 8i, but how?
(As a footnote: I would definitely prefer to install Discoverer into a separate ORACLE_HOME from the Oracle server.)
Thanks for any clarity on this situation.

    Hello Jerry:
There are two possible ways to deal with this issue:
    1. Install Discoverer into the first (Default) Oracle_Home on your machine.
    2. Install the RDBMS into another ORACLE_HOME.
Discoverer cannot be installed into a non Default Oracle_HOME.
    Also...
In this scenario you can do the following.
In the Oracle Installer you write DEFAULT_HOME in the NAME field and the you enter a directory different from the one Oracle8i is installed in. In many cases this does the trick. But you can get into a scenario where you still gets the errors message. In this case you exit the installer, starts a Dos Prompt and enter regedit, to edit the registry. Here you
    find the key
\\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Oracle\ALL_HOMES\DEFAULT_HOME. You change the value of this key to DEFAULT_HOME and then start the installation again.
    I hope this helps.

  • How to load balance Agents across multiple Oracle Management Servers?

    Hi everyone
We have the 2 OMS servers in our OEM environment. We would like to set up our management agents to load balance over these 2 servers...Or if not load balance then at least set up the agents so they can access either/or OMS.
I've looked through the documentation and in google, but can't seem to find the answer.
Can someone point me towards the documentation please
    Thanks
    R

OMS is just an appserver with a repository. You can load balance the appservers with an F5. You can load balance the repository with RAC.
So ... your options for load balancing and resilience are :-
    1. one agent on each server, multiple OMS appservers load balanced, one RAC database (with dataguard standby)
    2. two agents per server, two appservers, two repositories.
Both architectures work. Option 1 offers the best load balancing and resilience.

  • NLS_LANG setting for a client with multiple Oracle servers

    Hello!
We have a web application which has to connect to one of the Oracle servers with different charactersets. When the NLS_LANG on the client is a single byte encoding and the server has a single byte encoding there are no problems. We have now a server with NLS_CHARACTERSET UTF8 and all special (hungarian accented) character are replaced.
When we set the client to UTF8 the rest of servers does not work.
What is the solution for one client and multiple servers with different encoding?
Is there a special key in connection string?
I tried to change the nls_lang with an alter session statement but without success.
    Regards,
    emeriqus

NLS_LANG is not depending on the database side, it's a CLIENT setting to "let Oracle know what encoding is used on the CLIENT" so that Oracle can do the conversion from the client encoding to the database (NLS_CHARACTERSET) encoding.
for ONE application/client the is only ONE correct NLS_LANG value, regardless of the database NLS_CHARACTERSET
If you web application is really an UTF8 application (check with your vendor) then you can perfectly use a UTF8 client setting and a 8 bit database
Of course, you will be limited to the database side in this case seen the 8 bit characterset does not know all the characters in UTF8
The fact that setting the NLS_LANG to UTF8 "does not work" with your web application is simply the fact your application is not a UTF8 env.
Setting nls_lang to UTF8 will not "magically" make your application UTF8, NLS_LANG is depending on the encoding used in the web server.
But the first thing to ask yourself is if CURRENT data is correctly in the Oracle database.
use SQLdeveloper to check the data, this is a "know good client" that needs no NLS configuration.
You can download it from http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/sql_developer/
If the data is displayed correctly in SQLdeveloper then you are sure it's correct in the database.
If data is WRONG in the database then that needs to be corrected first, "trying" different client side configurations will only make matter worse (even if they make the data "look good" )

  • Issue with multiple Oracle Long Fields

    Hello,
We have some reports that try to display two Oracle Long data type fields. When we do so we receive the error "ORA-1002 - fetch out of sequence" when we connect the report through "Oracle Server" connection type.
If I execute SQL Statement of the report in "Oracle SQL Developer" there is no error.
I have the following components installed on my Windows 7 PC:
          - Crystal Report 2008 (12.3.0.601)
          - Oracle Client 11.1.7.0
If you want to replicate the issue you can create the following tables:
    create table TEST1_T
      fld1 VARCHAR2(4),
      text   LONG
    create table TEST2_T
      fld1 VARCHAR2(4),
      fld2 VARCHAR2(4),
      text   LONG
In the TEST1_T table insert data and populate the text field. In the TEST2_T, populate the fld1 to be able to link the 2 tables together you can let the text field blank.
In the report insert TEST1_T.fld1, TEST2_T.text and TEST1_T.text if you hit preview you should get the error Ora-1002.
If you need more information let me know.
    Thank you.
    Charles
P.S: If we connect thru "CR Oracle ODBC Driver 5.3" and the first long field in the SQL statement is null boths fields are blanked in the report but if both fields are populated the report execute correctly.

    Hi,
This is a known issue with CR that uses Oracle Long Fields.
See below for direct copy of information from KBase 1205489, hope it helps.
    Symptom
In Crystal Reports, problems may arise when using more than one Oracle LONG data type field.
Some of the symptoms you might see:
Mixed data between two LONG data columns when displayed within the same report.
Incorrect data displayed in the column which is based on a LONG field.
    Resolution
Change LONG fields to CLOB fields in the Oracle table.
Oracle recommends migrating any LONG data to the CLOB type starting in Oracle 9i.
To make this change, use the TO_LOB method.

  • How to install speech Agents with Captivate 7?

    Hi,
I am using Captivate 7 (32bit version for Windows), which only provides a single default speech agent. A link on the Speech Management screen enables you to download and install Neospeech voices.
I downloaded the file Cp7_win32_voices_installer.zip, extracted the files and then ran the set-up application. However, no additional speech agents are available in the Speech Management screen. What is the problem? I have tried rebooting my machine, but that has not helped. Any suggestions?
    Thanks
    Warren

    Hi there
You might want to perform a double-check here. I'm not sure about this version, but in earlier versions, once you "downloaded and installed", all you really did was to extract the installer application to a folder. There was another step. Locating that folder and performing the actual installation.
So look at the folder and see if there isn't something like a "setup.exe" or similar that you need to run!
    Cheers... Rick

  • Installing Windows Vista with multiple CDs

I am installing Windows Vista Home Premium on my macbook pro using bootcamp. My Vista installation comes with 5 CDs and I cannot eject to insert the next discs during windows installation. how do I install my vista?
    thanks for any help

    Hi and welcome to Discussions,
due to the lack of a 'real' eject-button on the optical drive and the fact that the 'software' eject-button is only avaiable after the installation, you are out luck.
BootCamp only supports one-disc installation media for Windows installations.
I don't know if you can get one from Microsoft, but maybe worth trying.
Or have a look here for instructions on how-to put the content of the 5 CDs onto one bootable DVD http://social.technet.microsoft.com/forums/en-US/itprovistadeployment/thread/b12 69447-2a43-48cf-a68f-6d9f043fb9ff/

  • Installing an application with multiple CD's but one drive question....

    Hi Folks,
Did a search but I wasn't really sure what I was looking for. Last weekend I tried to install a large application on my macpro. The first disk started working, mounted an image and did it's thing, then it asked for another disk, which I had. So I tried to eject the first disk and put in the second... then it asked for the first one again.... Never seen this before. It needed the image that was on the first disk to do anything so when I ejected it to put in subsequent disks it was looking for the image that was on the first one. I hope that makes sense. Its like I needed more than one drive so that I could leave in the first one and swap others out when needed in the second drive. Is that the only way to take care of this problem?
    Thanks much.

Make disk images and mount all of them then boot from the first one.
