Installing Enterprise Manager on Linux without orarun, dcopserver problems

Hi,
I have two Oracle 10.2 Client installations. For the first (db is also on that machine) I used orarun.rpm to set the environment. It works very nicely under all conditions.
On the second machine, I used /etc/profile.local to set the environment instead of orarun.rpm since I wasn't installing the whole database. The client applications starts fine from the command line, logged in as user oracle:
oemapp console
No problem. Path is defined in /etc/profile.local, so I don't even need to navigate to the directory. But when I try to create a shortcut on my desktop, I get the error:
DCOP communications error (KSysTrayCmd)
There was an error setting up inter-process communications for KDE. The message returned by the system was: Could not read network connection list:
/home/oracle/DCOPserver_linux-2bei0_0 Please check that the "dcopserver" program is running!
However, the dcopserver is running. But there is no /home/oracle/¨ directory (on either machine). The other machine (set with orarun.rpm) works fine with exact same shortcut. So why not this one?
Thanks for reading. Looking forward to any replies!
EDIT: I made the title more descriptive. Hopefully this helps others.

Ok, I might have solved it by simply changing the home directory for user oracle. It was easy: from YaST--->User Management I just changed user oracle's home directory from /home/oracle (which doesn't even exist) to /opt/oracle (which is my base directory). I still get a little error, but maybe it's because I don't have a database registered yet. The app still opens fine though.
Password: (I enter the default: oracle)
Session management error: Could not open network socket
Session management error: Could not open network socket
kbuildsycoca running...
One thing I don't understand yet is that, when I created the group oinstall, it assigned it as a user group instead of a system group. It means I have a KDE login when booting my machine. I'd like to get rid of that, so I need to figure out how to change a user group to system group.

  • Failed to install enterprise manager under linux

When I installed Oracle 10g(10.2.0.1) under linux, I got an error when running
    /ora01/db/oracle/product/10.2.0.1/bin/emca within oracle universal installer.
The emConfig.log file shows such error:

So I have to run emca after the oracle installation. I am new to this tool. I modified both tnsnames.ora and listener.ora file to set port to 1521. And then I run emca -config all db,
but now I cannot pass "entering the password for SYS user" (I already set SYS user's password to oracle, and it works when using sqlplus.) .
I am totally confused. What should I run emca to set up the enterprise manager's website? Now I can use localhost:5560/isqlplus and localhost:5560/isqlplus/dba.
    Many thanks!!

I just run emca as oracle instead of root, then the password got passed, but I got new errors:

What should I do? Is running emca -config all db necessary to get enterprise manager installed?

  • Stuck at Configuration Details when installing Enterprise Manager 12c linux

    Hi all
I need a help with installations of Enterprise manager 12c. Usually it is a straight forward installtion. But this time, i encounter this error :
    ERROR:SQLException null Resultset
Unable to connect to the database and validate whether it is a supported database due to one of the following reasons:
    (1) Incorrect credentials
    (2) Listener may be down
    (3) Database may be down
Check the credentials ,the status of the listener and the database and retry.
I am sure I put in the correct username/password, port number and host name, I could connect by TOAD and sqlplus from my desktop with no problem. but the installer tells me that incorrect credentials were given. I really could not understand where the problem could be.
Any help or directions are greatly appreciated.
    Yong

No. Do I have to? I just thought this is not that severe to bother oracle support. I thought some dbas on this forum could help. I even downloaded another copy from website and reinstall it and it returned the same error. Looks like the software can not parse the password correctly. Don't if any other dbas encounter such weired behavior.
    Thanks.

The option to install EM is going to come within the DBCA. You would need to select that option for letting oracle know to create it. If not , then you would need to install it manually. There is another version which is called Cloud Control(12c) and I believe that's what you are trying to install. And we don't know why the screen is getting disappeared for you, it's not a very detailed error message for us. Did you check that you have logged in as an administrator?

  • Installing Enterprise Manager 10g Grid Control Using an Existing Database

I want to install Enterprise Manager 10g Grid Control 10.2.0.3 using an existing database. This database is RAC 10.2.0.2. and I use it as Infrastructure Metadata Repository.
I is said in Oracle documentation that SYSMAN schema has to be dropped, thus Database console repository has to be dropped. As far as I understand after Grid Control installation I will not be able to use Database console for my RAC 10.2.0.2 Infrastructure Metadata Repository database. Enterprise Manager Fedora Core 2 with Oracle 10g.
I can not locate OEMAPP anywhere on my disk. I have reinstalled the system several times, but it does not seem to get installed on my computer.
I have no problem with the system otherwise, and can run Enterprise Manager (oemapp.bat) from an XP workstation and connect.
I have selected a custom install as well, and it does not install the program.
    I can run
    emctl start dbconsole
and run Enterprise Manager thru HTML (localhost:5100)
but would very much like to run the graphical version.
    Can anyone assist?
Can I extract it from the CPIO?
    Can I download it somewhere?
I have seen that many others have run into this same issue, but have not been able to locate any resolution.
Anyone know how I can install it?
Has anyone tried to run 10g on Fedora core 3?
    Thanks.

u are right there is no EM from linux u have to use winnt's EM and u can connect using connect string which u can create manual by creating the connect string in tnsnames.ora files or u can use net8 easy config.

  • Strange problem with 10G using client installed enterprise manager console

I have successfully installed 10G on our SUSE linux 9.0 server, I have created 6 databases (standard edition of the database) and verified their parameter files, control files, and database files are in different locations --- all done at the server console. I created my DBA account on all 6 databases and logged into each one to verify their function.
I returned to my PC where I have installed the 10G client and where I have used the 8 and 9 enterprise manager console to manage my databases. I got the TNSNAMES file in order for the new databases. I logged into the first database and tested my workstation connectivity successfully , I logged into the second database and it said my password was incorrect. I ended up signing in on the second database with my first databases account password. (it then worked). I got fed up hopping around with the mystery with the password being stored somewhere in the enterprise manager java ? and logged in as system and changed all of my passwords. I then went up to the console and found that the only database that they changed on was the first one.
I returned to my workstation and started creating the data files and users and roles in the first database. I now on either workstation in my office, when logging in as ANY of the six database DBA accounts, can see all the objects I created in the first database.
I went to the server console and logged in and verified that the objects only exist in the first database. For some reason the enerprise manager console is really a problem. I have windows XP. Our database is on 10G but we are not taking advantage of grid control due to budget reasons (one server only).
I have heard there is a url based web management console at: http://serverip:5500/em, but it is not working currently in our environment and it will be up to our sys. engineers to release / open up that port through our DMZ. Ordinarily would this allow the kind of control that the old enterprise manager console would?
Is my installing the grid conrol product going to be "overkill" and not useful for me or should I install it?
Is there an alternative 10G version of the enterprise manager console for simpler environments like mine?
Is there a good explanation why my workstations are presenting "false" cached information above what is really in the database for objects unique to each database - ie: why are my #1 database objects showing up in EMC as objects in all databases and why is EMC managing/storing my passwords.?
I just need to get the best choice to manage my environment.
I know I have asked a lot of questions and I would appreciate any insight from someone who has encountered this before.

    fixed
    - the alias in the TNSNAMES was correct but the actual database "service_name" was the first db - -- a long project / late night oversight. I also went into the sysman\ifiles\ and corrected the entry for the database there too where it had registered the settings for the wrong database.

  • How to install Enterprise Manager alone 9i?

    Anyone,
Is there an easy way to install the oracle Enterprise Manager on a PC without installing all the Web Server stuff that typically goes with the EM?
I have tried custom install many times in past but I still end up getting Apache onto the machine and all kinds of unneeded stuff.
All I am after is the web based admin tool capabilities.. Does Oracle possibly have it hidden as a stand alone download anywhere instead of being in the entire Oracle Enterprise download?
    Thanks in advance,
