Installing EP & PI over an existing ECC server

Hi Guys
We have already installed the ERP package (ECC) and we have enough memory and diskspace on the server and there we are considering installing EP or PI over the existing server so that we can use both ECC and EP (or PI).
How can we do this? What are the steps to do it? I want to make sure that we don't corrupt the existing SAP stuff on the server, but just want to install enterprise portal (Or and XI).
Your comments or suggestions will be highly appreciated.

Hi ram,
PI requires both Java and ABAP stack.
EP requires only Java stack.
In any implementation for EP, EP requires a restart many times after doing configuration changes. Then it will affect your PI installation too.
It is not advisable to install both on same server.

Need to install BI Java on existing NW server

We have installed AS (ABAP + JAVA)+EP and upated with BI content and patches,
our BI consultant wanted to create reports using Bex, which requires BI JAVA. I tried to install it using sapinst , In the input phase i select AS Java , BI JAVA and EP on the next screen i gave the SID (of Existing server TBI) then it gives the message saying
DATABASE SCHEMA
Database objects have been found in the database schema (SAPTBIDB) used for this installation , you must delete these objects or use another database or sap sid as entered in the previous dialogs
clean up database schema [check box]
Here the question is how do i install BI Java on the Existing Netwear server.
please advice at the earliest.

Can I install FF over an existing 9.0 installation and retain bookmarks, etc.

Running v9.0, and page layouts, text sizes, etc. have become corrupted by some manner. Can I download a new version and reinstall it over the existing version and retain my bookmarks, history, etc.? Would this possible correct the problem that has occured?

It should work, but it's an unmitigated mess. Simplest is to boot into recovery mode and reinstall the OS.

Install snow leopard over server.

I have an old MacBook Pro I installed the trial of Mac OS X server on. I just wanted to see how it worked, and decide if I wanted to purchase it. I have decided now to re-install leopard on this machine but it give mr an error saying I cannot install over the server OS..
What do I need to do to be able to Install Leopard?

After you reach the point in the install process where you select a destination, select the destination then click on the Options button. Select Erase and Install option, click on the OK button, then continue with the installation.
FWIW, this is the Snow Leopard forum, not the Leopard forum. If you are reinstalling Snow Leopard and simply misstated, then use Disk Utility to format the destination drive before installing OS X.

Install Oracle Access Manager in existing Access Manager domain

I am operator of a windows system with Oracle Access Manager installed.
We use OAM for SSO against Webpages in OIM running on Jboss, and now we are going to implement against a WebLogic webapplication too.
The userbase is standard Active Directory
I did not set up OAM myself so I'm not completely sure how it works.
To be able to test the SSO solution given by an external provider, I need to have a proper stage environment.
My idea is to set up another OAM on another server, wich points towards the same AD domaincontroller as the existing OAM
Is this possible? In the installation guide I find that the new AccessManager system should be added into the existing OAM configuration , before we turn of the existing OAM and then install the complete OAM on the new server. Then we can turn on the existing OAM again, and implement them as clusters. I would like them to be two indipendent instances not affecting one another, but in the same AD domain to be able to test features in one of them and use the other as the production server.
My fear is that I "mess up" the form in AD created from the old OAM, and that way mess the upp production environment.

Hi,
Technically, you can certainly set up a new OAM infrastructure which points to the existing AD instance. You could do this in a number of ways, for example:
- set up the new instance so that it points to the same users and configuration branch as the existing instance, so that the new instance is effectively just an extension of the existing instance (with extra Identity and Access Servers, etc) ;
- set up the new instance so that it points to the same AD instance, but uses different User searchbase and Config branch. In this case the new instance is more or less completely separate, but it happens to use the same directory ;
- set up the new instance so that it points to the same Users, but a different Config branch, in which case the new instance has independed OAM configuration (policies, authentication schemes etc) but operates on the same user base.
(In OAM you can define separate ldap locations for the Users, Identity Config and Access Config.)
It depends on exactly what you want, but if the idea is to have a proper stage environment, then it is usually better for them to be completely independent, including the directory. OAM can update users as well as policies, and additionally different major versions of OAM have different schemas, so there are risks when using the same directory instance. Load testing is also an issue, since the directory is accessed extensivley by OAM.

I checked the the software requirement for SAP Solution Manager 7.0, it only mentioned Window Server 2003 and 2008 enterprise edition.

When I ran the Solution Manager Master Installer, the Pre-requisite Checker gave a warning message saying that it detected incompatible server version, that the server version is Windows NT 6.1 (Build 7601: Service Pack 1) (I guess it meant Window Server 2008 R2).

I think it is not straight forward to install SAP Solution Manager 7.0 in MS Window Server 2008 R2.
I am installing Solution Manager 7.0 , the installation encountered error on Create Java Users step (Phase 31 of 44). When I login to SAP solution Manager system through SAP GUI. I encountered this error:
"OS release Windows NT 6.1 7601 Service Pack 1 4x AMD64 Level 6 (Mod 44 Step 2) is not supported with this kernel (700)'
I found that it is because I am installing SAP Solution Manger 7.0 in MS Window Server 2008 R2, which the existing kernel version does not support.
Do you know which kernel I should install?

Best practices for installing Win 10 under Hyper-V on Server 2012R2 host

Yeah, yeah, I know I could probably get my answers after spending 10 hours reading hundreds of isolated threads here. I've already put in about 2 hours, and I'm exhausted. Plus, this site does not have a very sophisticated search function.
I want to install Win10 as a VM on my Server 2012R2 machine. I am not currently hosting any other VMs, so my first decision was whether to try it using Hyper-V or VirtualBox. I started with VirtualBox, but I ran into two problems: networking
and video. Also, VirtualBox itself seems to have some issues with failing to install the extension pack. So now I think I'll give Hyper-V a shot.
I found some blog posts from last year providing guidance on setting up Hyper-V for Win10, but given the rate of change of this beta OS, I expect there are many new "features" that can be mitigated against by specific settings on the VM.
Some specific questions:
1. Generation 1 or Generation 2 in the Hyper-V setup? The blogs I've seen say to use Gen1, but provide no justification. Perhaps because they are using Win8 as the host? I am using 2012R2.
2. Does the Win10 ISO file need to be continually available to the VM, or is it only used in the initial installation?
3. How do I get the VM to access the GPU card, which has lots of memory, over the useless onboard video chip which only has 8MB and no 3D instruction set? This was a dealbreaker with VirtualBox.
4. I anticipate many issues with networking, but I'll start with this: I have dual onboard NICs going into a managed switch. Should I just give one physical NIC to the VM and let the host have the other? I think I'm going to have some issues
with DHCP IP address assignment, but we'll see. Any best practices here would be helpful.

That's what I would do (assigning one NIC to the VM, and one the host). If
both are receiving an IP address right now from DHCP, they will continue to
do so the new way unless you have a managed switch that would prevent more
IP addresses. It's hard to tell...

How to install windows 7 over windows 8 HP 2000- 2b16NR

So, I purchased this laptop at a pawn shop a couple of years ago, and it has served me pretty well up until now. After the latest windows update, something went terribly, terribly, wrong. For some unknown reason I am now stuck with Windows 8.1 Evaluation with the license expired, which means it shuts itself down EVERY hour. I'm done with this, I hate the Windows 8 interface anyway, now its time to go back to something I know and love. I've read up on a lot of these posts, and joined the forums only because I did not see another post that was in direct relation to my own model number. If someone could please guide me through the process of installing Windows 7 from a disk, it would be ever so helpful. If you could also post a link pointing me in the right direction for all the drivers specific to my computer, that would be awesome as well, since I'm no techie, and really don't know a whole lot about this sort of thing outside of basic knowledge. I got my hands on a bootable copy of Windows 7. Everything loads up just fine until I make the settings to US English etc, and click install, when I do that I get this error message: "The product key does not match any of the Windows images availible for installation. Enter a different product key." Which doesn't make any sense to me, because since I've had this computer everything has updated just fine, and worked great up until this stupid update to 8.1. That being said, when I go into other options and select 'Reset my PC' I get another error message: "Unable to reset your PC. A required driver partition is missing." I've seen on some other posts where having the drive partitioned in the right way (format I guess?) is another issue with installing Windows 7 over 8. If this indeed another source of the problem, how do I go about fixing it?

Unfortunately, you can't. Windows has never, ever been able to install an upgrade, or even the same version over itself without essentially destroying the drive.
Make absolutely sure all of your personal data is backed up, first.
When you install Win 64 from the DVD over an existing installation, it gives you two choices, both of which stink. One simply replaces all of the standard directories with all new data, fully erasing all third party apps you've installed and all of your settings. The second choice isn't any better. It moves all of the standard directories into a folder named Old Data (or something like that). Which again takes all of your third party software with it, along with your personal settings.
No matter which lousy choice you make, you have to reinstall all of your third party apps and set everything up again as if it were a new computer. The only thing that's different from a brand new computer is that your pictures and other such data should still be in your user folder. But everything else will be broken.
