Installing EP5 with Oracle

Hi,
I want to install an EP5 SP6 with an Oracle database under Windows. When I run the 'Requirements Verification Tool' it displays the message, that the connection string file could not be found. but it exists in the oracle path under network\admin.
Is there any additional path, where the tnsnames.ora must be placed?
TIA.
regards,
Thomas.

Hi Jonny,
Then I would recommend metalink.oracle.com. I advised you to use the other forum, not to read through this forum, but to post your question since this is not the right forum to post your ADI questions.

• Apache gets installed together with Oracle 11G on my Win2003 x64 server?Rem

Hi all,
I just installed Oracle 11G on my Windows 2003 x64 server.
It seems that it has also installed Apache on it and took over my port 80 on which i would like to run IIS.
Can anyone please advice on how i can either remove apache or if it is needed by oracle then at least change the port so i can have my port 80 back.
I had a browse around but i could not find any configuration files easily.
Looking forward to your response.
Cheers

I also checked the lsit of running services and i cant see it there.

• Install TimesTen with oracle clusterware

Now I have installed Oracle set groupware, TimesTen,11g,
If the TimesTen cache Oracle, is it right?
In "Start the active standby pair" TimesTen cache and replication before opening
Main the following points do not understand:
Cluster.oracle.ini
AppName=reader
AppType=Active
AppStartCmd=/timesten/TimesTen/app_start.sh start
AppStopCmd=/timesten/TimesTen/app_stop.sh stop
AppCheckCmd=/timesten/TimesTen/app_check.sh
checkCacheConnect=Y
Where app_start.sh is the need to write your own?
Can you give me an example?

As far as I am aware, recent (11g onwards) releases of Oracle Heterogenous services do not work with TimesTen as they now require an OBC 3.x driver and the TimesTen driver is currently 2.0. Even if they did work, this would not be a useful solution. It might allow Apex to access TimesTen after a fashion (though that is far from certain) but the performance would be very poor due to all the network hops and software layers between the application and TimesTen.
If you put one or two tables in TimesTen then one problem from an Apex perspective is that it is now dealing with two databases; the TimesTen cache containing two tables and the oracle database containing all the other tables. Is Apex designed to cope with this? Does it have the concept of data located in multiple databases where one of them is not the Oracle database? Also, do you need transactions or queries (joins) that span the TimesTen tables and the tables in Oracle DB? If so then this also  will not work as that is not possible today.
I have to say that as far as Apex goes I think this is likely a non-starter. However, if you do try it and have any success then please do post the results here as we'd be interested to hear about it.

• Install ArcSDE with Oracle

Hi,
Will the regular performance of Oracle_10g be compromised if I install ArcSDE?
Will there be any noticeable changes?
Thanks.

Hi Tom,
I shall try to explain this in "laymans" terms but let me know if you need further clarification!
ArcSDE is a product that provides (amongst other things) database independence. Its sits "on top" of your database (be that SQL Server, Oracle, DB2 etc etc) and the client users do not need any of the database client software on their machines - just the Arc* software they are using to perform their GIS tasks. It is a little like ODBC except for spatial data.
When you install SDE there is a server "executable" and also a schema and some metadata tables are setup in the database. Actual SDE "layers" are created & loaded through one of the SDE client tools (ArcCatalog, shp2sde etc) that connect to the SDE server executable which then talks to the database to actually load the feature data into the database. You do not (usually) communicate directly with the database.
How SDE stores its data is configurable. For the sake of this introduction there are two main options - SDE binary & Oracle Spatial. SDE binary stores the feature data (coordinates etc) inside a "blob" in the database and is essentially for you, the DBA & database user, a black box. You can do nothing (useful) with it from SQL or other database tools. ESRI argue that this format is "better" as it is totally under their control and specifically tuned for use with SDE. The other option is to store it as Oracle Spatial (SDO geometry) which opens up a whole new world of analysis options. Your data is still available to SDE & clients exactly the same as any other SDE layer yet you also have the power of the Oracle SQL interface and all the Oracle Spatial procedures & packages. SDE is just a "wrapper" around the Oracle Spatial table. This does allow you to create additional Oracle Spatial tables and then "register" them with SDE to allow your ESRI Arc* software users to have access to them also.
I hope this helps!
Steve
PS. I do have to qualify this a little - my ESRI experience is now a bit rusty. I've not used it much in the past 18 months and I have no experience of 9.x whatsoever. The situation may now be a little different. Corrections and additions from elsewhere are welcome (and interesting for me too!).

• Installing SQLDeveloper with Oracle Database Express Edition 11g Release 2

Hello,
I have a problem with sqldeveloper in connecting to the database with the following message:
*"java.lang.unsatisfiedlinkerror oracle.jdbc.driver.t2cconnection.t2csetsessiontimezone"*
I can connect to the database via SQL / SQLPLUS. I cannot select from the dual table.
My machine is windows 7 - 64 -bit. I downloaded SQLDEVELOPER for 32-bit.
Thanks.

I downloaded the version without the JDK, because I already had Java on my machine. I will try with the JDK included.
New update: I download the version with the JDK. I recevied the same message. Do I need to delete the first version of Java?
Thanks.

• Installing issues with Oracle Database 11g R1 on Red Hat Linux

Hi,
I am installing Oracle Database 11g on Red Hat Linux.
Version of the OS:Linux 2.6.9-5.ELsmp #1 SMP Wed Jan 5 19:30:39 EST 2005 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux
I have installed XManager on my PC to access the runtime installer in Graphical mode.
But once i click the installer file from Xmanager, it asks if the user wants to run it in terminal or simply run.
I selected the run in terminal and it starts the terminal where the initial pre-requisite checks are done i.e swap memory,temp and display.
The screen disappers and the graphical OUI never turns up...
Any pointer would be helpful.
Regards
Prabal

Try the following:
1. logon to the linux using root and issue the following command - xhost+
2. Open xterm in the Xmanager and logon to the linux using oracle user.
3. in the installation directory issue ./runInstaller.

• BW30B install with Oracle 9.2 - Install error

I am trying to install BW30B with Oracle 9.2 on a Sun Solaris 64bit machine. I am using Exceed to display the installation GUI.
I keep getting the error message:
Unable to access file <Path>/SAPENV.SH Permission Denied.
I am running the install with root permissions. The above path does exist and I have given all the files 777 rights. I have in turn given the <SID>adm and ora<SID> directories 777 access. It looks like its trying to copy the scripts from the /UNIX/COMMON/INSTALL directory into the <SID>adm & ora<SID> directories when it fails.
By Default none of us have root permissions. To work around this we start the installation as sapadm and add the install path to the sudo list so that the install runs with root permissions.
Eg: sapadm> sudo /sapcd/BWINSTALL/INSTALL
The destination filesystem is remotely mounted, though i think that's not the problem as we have successfully installed SAP from that path before. The error message from the sapinst log file is below. Also the userid's have already been created and I have set their home directories to 777 permissions.

Hi johnny,
You should first check the hosts file to see if the correct hostname and the IP address are shown. You can also check if the "hostname" command returns the correct result. If everything looks good so far, then next check if command "nslookup" returns the correct IP address. If the nslookup <hostname> command returns error, you will need to talk to the Domain Name Server (DNS) administrator to correct this network configuration problem.

• Does /sapmnt need in cluster file system(SAP ECC 6.0 with oracle RAC)

We are going to be installing SAP with Oracle 10.2.0.4 RAC on Linux SuSE 10 and OCFS2. The Oracle RAC documentation states:
You must store the following components in the cluster file system when you use RAC
in the SAP environment:
- Oracle Clusterware (CRS) Home
- Oracle RDBMS Home
- SAP Home (also /sapmnt)
- Voting Disks
- OCR
- Database
What I want to ask is if I really need put SAP Home(also /sapmnt) on cluster file system? I will build a two nodes oracel 10g RAC and I also have another two nodes to install SAP CI and DI. My orginial think is sapmnt is a NFS share, and mount to all four nodes(RAC node and CI/DI), and all oracle stuff was on OCFS2(only two rac nodes are OCFS), anybody can tell me if SAP Home(also /sapmnt) can be NFS mount not OCFS2, thanks.
Best regards,
Peter

Hi Peter,
I don't think you need to keep /sapmnt in  ocfs2 . Reason any file system  need  to be in cluster is,in RAC environment, data stored in the cache of one Oracle instance to be accessed by any other instance by transferring it across the private network  and preserves data integrity and cache coherency by transmitting locking and other synchronization information across cluster nodes.
AS this applies to redo files, datafiles and control files only ,  you should be fine with nfs mount of /sapmnt sharing across and not having ocfs2.

• How to build libphp4.so with oracle database library ?

Hi there ,
I am hoping to build a PHP+ORACLE enviroment to carry on performance testing,the configuration as belows:
Oracle Database 10.2.0.4 Release, Oracle Application Server 10.1.3.4, php 4.4.9.
Referring to http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/ias/ohs/htdocs/php_ohs.htm#4.2
1. tar xvf php-4.4.9.tar
2.Set the following environment variables ORACLE_HOME, OAS_HOME,PERL5LIB, LD_LIBRARY_PATH
export OAS_HOME=/home/oracle/ias1013
export ORACLE_HOME=/home/oracle/db1024
export PERL5LIB=$OAS_HOME/perl/lib/5.8.3:$OAS_HOME/perl/lib/site_perl/5.8.3
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/home/oracle/db1024/lib:$OAS_HOME/lib:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH
3.Edit the apxs file to modify the CFG_INCLUDE value in $OAS_HOME/Apache/Apache/bin/apxs
4.configure and install
cd /home/oracle/php-4.4.9
./configure with-apxs=$OAS_HOME/Apache/Apache/bin/apxs prefix=$OAS_HOME
with-config-file-path=$OAS_HOME/Apache/Apache/conf with-oci8=$ORACLE_HOME --disable-rpath
5.'configure' succeeded without any errors then issue "make install-sapi" at command prompt.
Once the make command is executed properly libphp4.so is generated at the /home/oracle/php-4.4.9/libs/ location and copied to $OAS_HOME/Apache/Apache/libexec/ location
6.Activates php4 module for http server by adding entry "LoadModule php4_module libexec/libphp4.so" in http server config file $OAS_HOME/Apache/Apache/conf/httpd.conf
7.Post install
cp /home/oracle/php-4.4.9/php.ini-dist $OAS_HOME/Apache/Apache/conf/php.ini
Navigate to the $OAS_HOME/Apache/Apache/conf. Edit the httpd.conf file as follows:
# And for PHP 4.x, use:
AddType application/x-httpd-php .php .phtml
AddType application/x-httpd-php-source .phps.
After i have done all above steps , i checked the dependency of share object file:libphp4.so
$ ldd libphp4.so
/usr/lib/libcwait.so (0x00e5f000)
libcrypt.so.1 => /lib/libcrypt.so.1 (0x00aa5000)
libresolv.so.2 => /lib/libresolv.so.2 (0x00979000)
libm.so.6 => /lib/tls/libm.so.6 (0x0041d000)

libnsl.so.1 => /lib/libnsl.so.1 (0x00b3e000)
libclntsh.so.10.1 => not found
libc.so.6 => /lib/tls/libc.so.6 (0x00458000)
/lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0x00930000)
"libclntsh.so.10.1 => not found" makes me very confused, i think it should be "libclntsh.so.10.1 =>/home/oracle/db1024/lib/libclntsh.so.10.1" as expected.
I am not sure the libraries uesed for building libphp4.so come from application server lib or database lib,
I will appreciate for your any helps!!
Regards,
Edward

Did the shell running ldd have LD_LIBRARY_PATH set?
Last time I tried this, I built PHP with the libraries from Instant Client, not $ORACLE_HOME. See the section on Installing OCI8 with Oracle Application Server on Linux in http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/php/pdf/underground-php-oracle-manual.pdf
Perhaps try removing the --disable-rpath option?

Hi! Thanks, but yes, that's in order. A couple of questions, though:
1. Does PHP5 work with Oracle 9.2? Would I need to upgrade to Oracle 10?
2. I'm assuming that the definition for OCI_STMT_CACHE is to be found in the oci8 libraries and not in the PHP package. When I make a search for this, I come up empty. I'm wondering if I need to updgrade my oci8 libraries (currently with 9.2 package)?

Hello ,
In the marketplace-PAM,  RedHat Enterprise 6 is not listed as approved for EHP1 Solution Manager 7.0 64 bit (unicode) with Oracle.
Does anyone have any information on this subject?
Has anyone installed the Solution Manager 7.0/Oracle with RedHat Enterprise 6?
tks

Yes, you are correct. Apart from PAM, following Note confirms this. RHEL 6 is not supported yet for Oracle, is in planning stage.

I am not sure but I think the problem is with the allocated shared memory size, which right now is:
<b>init.ora</b>
shared_pool_size = 67108864
<b>init<SID>.ora</b>
shared_pool_size = 90112000
shared_pool_reserved_size = 9011200
If this is the cause of the problem then how much should i increase it to? and do i need to modify the size in both files or only init<SID>.ora? Is there any SAP Note related to this problem? Thanks.
Regards,

Hi Vasu,
ORA-4031... for 99%  of cases this means one thing:
the database instance is not configured correctly.
To proceed, do the following:
1. get rid of init.ora (it's not used at all)
2. make sure that the init<sid>.ora file is really used.
       If there is a spfile in the %ORACLE_HOME&/database folder
       then this will be used.
3. With your  configured shared pool of 85MB your memory should really not be filled up - anyhow it's really too small for a SAP system!
Thus I'd check how much memory the other sga-area members (buffer cache, large pool, streams pool, java pool...) take up.
        Remember on Windows 32 Bit, everything runs in one single process that can only allocate 2GB (or 3GB if you've set this option).
See note:

for more on this.
And when you're setting up parameters anyway, check note

Fyi.. I've tried to install DBD::Oracle version 1.24 and 1.50 but that doesn't seem to make any difference. I couldn't find any related thread either for this error so I desperately need a solution to the same(if any).
