Installing EPMA File Generator on User Machine

Greetings all -
I have a user who wants to be able to extract her metadata from EPMA-enabled HFM applications at her discretion. My first thought was EPMA file generator, but she does not (and will not) have access to the servers in any capacity. Is there a way to install the EPMA file generator on a user's machine? I am also open to metadata extraction options that she could do without EPMA file generator, but nothing immediately came to mind.
Any help is appreciated, as always.
Thank you,
Sarah

The EPMA file generator can be installed on a user desktop. That bad part is on the 11.x line you have to use the installer which requires a large set of files (installer, foundation 1 - n, EPMA) to install that one little piece of software rather than a specific installer for the EPMA File Generator. Make sure only the file generator is selected for install and no other components.
Once it's installed no configuration is required using the configuration tool -- all parameters are inputs when you run the file generator itself.

  • EPMA File Generator Plug In for Excel

    Does anyone know if there are plans to make the EPMA File Generator more of a client side application that would run potentially as in conjunction with the Smart-View Excel Add-In? Right now, it appears it the file generator is restricted to those who have access to the foundation server.
    This would make Finance a lot happier and less reliable on ETL groups.

    This is installed from the EPMA system installer. This can be installed on the client, but it isn't as easy as providing them an EXE that they can simply double click.
    You could use LCM utility to automate the extracts to xml files of the hierarchies. These files can easily be opened in Excel as tables. The automation could copy the xml files to a common directory or send emails. Details on using this can be found at http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17236_01/epm.1112/epma_batch_user/launch.html.
    You could also download the Essbase Outline Extractor, which would basically do the same thing. It would read from Essbase rather than EPMA. That can be downloaded at http://www.appliedolap.com/free-tools/outline-extractor.
    Hope that helps.

  • EPMA File Generator error

    Hi,
    I generally use the EPMA File Generator excel template to create my metadata for bulk loading into EPMA Shared Library. For some reason I have started to get errors whenever I open the excel file on my machine. I keep getting the error "Could not load an object because it is not available on this machine."
    It seems that the Macro's embedded in the file that assist in the metadata creation require some files/objects that are not available. This is the case with all other machines I've checked in my organization. I have a feeling it might be the result of a updates/patches to Office.
    Edit: Even if I don't use the macros and just update the metadata on the existing sheets (dimensions I had already created in the file) I am unable to save the changes as well. I just get the error that the file is corrupted and excel will try to recover. Once I click on OK it just says that the damage to the file was so extensive that recovery is not an option.
    Does anyone know what is causing the problem and how to fix it. If a .dll or .ocx can be downloaded and replaced somewhere just to get this file working.
    Thanks,

  • Cannot start EPMA FIle Generator

    I cannot get the EPMA file generator to run. I am running a Windows XP client system within a VM and have all other 11.1.2 clients running correctly. EPMA server is running and I can connect to it via Workspace. Whenever I start the EPMA File Generator client I get an error message "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000135). Click on OK to terminate the application." There are no log entries that I can find anywhere on the client and the Windows Event Viewer shows no further detail. I have already run the installer again to reinstall it without any change.
    Any ideas?

    Have a look in the windows event viewer and see the error message that has been generated.

  • Extracting Dimension from Planning Application through EPMA File Generator

    Hi,
    I have a EPMA planning application (in version 11.1.1.2) and I want to extract its dimensions in to a ads file. I am using EPMA File Generator 9.3.1 for the purpose.
    I am selecting the "From Planning Application" tab and entering all the required details, but when I execute... I get error "Unable to get metadata. Please check the web URL, application name, and application server."
    I checked the web URL which is:
    http://<server name>:8300/HyperionPlanning
    and my application name & server are also correct...
    Please help me to find out what exactly is going wrong here...
    Thanks & Regards,
    AK

    Why are you using 9.3.1 version, is there not a newer version in \Hyperion\products\Foundation\BPMA\EPMAFileGenerator\
    Also if it an EPMA application you can use the EPMA tab to generate the ADS.
    Cheers

  • EPMA File Generator not working on ASO database

    Greetings, a colleague of mine is having trouble using file generator in EPMA on an ASO database with MDX formulas. He is getting an error, unrecognized application type Essbase (ASO). He used on 11.1.1.3 and, 11.1.2.2. I know there was a defect in 11.1.1.3 that should have been resolved in 11.1.2.2 and, apparently it hasn't. Has anyone else come across this issue? Please advise. Thanks.

    The problem was introduced during the CF 7.01 update. I
    understand that the
    7.02 update fixes the issue.

  • Check IN a file from local user machine using Input file tag

    Hi
    We have created a webapplication using Oracle UCM. We have designed certain forms and want to give users an input field to upload images to content server.
    I included a input type file tag in my form and on submit redirected to a JSPX.
    I included on JSPX following tag when the form is submitted as follows
    <wcm:idcService service="CHECKIN_NEW_FORM" var="fileUpload">
    <wcm:idcParameter name="doFileCopy" value="1"/>
    <wcm:idcParameter name="dDocName" value="Test_Aakash"/>
    <wcm:idcParameter name="dDocTitle" value="Test_Aakash"/>
    <wcm:idcParameter name="dDocType" value="Document"/>

    <wcm:idcParameter name="dDocAuthor" value="anonymous"/>
    *<wcm:idcParameter name="primaryFile" value="C:/test.txt"/>*
    </wcm:idcService>
    I was hoping to pass primary path that a client will specify will allow the file to check in to the UCM server.But, to my dismay the tag expects that primary file be the path of file present on the Server and not on client machine accessing the webapplication.
    How can I check in file from client local machine to UCM server. I found default IdcService=CHECKIN_NEW_FORM through web-application allows one to select primary file from his local machine. But, this not the case when i do the same using the tag above. Please help how can i achieve the desired result.
    Thanks,

  • EPMA File Generator 9.3.1 Issue

    I'm getting a very strange errors when trying to export the Master application view in EPMA from my prod or dev environments.
    It seems like it's having a problem with spaces in the name of a member or dimension? But I can export any of my 3 Planning applications just fine and they have dimensions with spaces in too.
    Has anyone seen these errors and knows how to resolve them? I hate that I can't keep my dev enviroment updated with the changes in prod, it makes testing new calcs and rules a major pain.

    Based on the 9.3.1 EPMA admin manual, it indicates that spaces shouldn't be at the beginning or end of a member name. There's nothing there about a problem with spaces in the middle of a member name. There is a special case for smart lists, it seems, but I dont have any smart lists with spaces...

  • EPMA Excel File Generator

    I'm using 11.1.1.2 and attempting to use the Excel EPMA file generator. I'm getting all of my dimensions, however, I can not get any aliases to load. I'm loading for Planning and Essbase (BSO). All I want to do is load a Default alias but I'm getting 'Invalid Property Data Type for Property 'Alias'.'
    My 'Alias' tab has just one entry:
    #root|English
    First, does the file generator work for aliases, and if so, what am I doing wrong?
    Also, has anyone seen a sample Excel workbook for the file generator. I think that would be super helpful.
    Thanks,
    Michael

    I haven't used the Excel ADS file format much (I use text ADS files), but one thing I've noticed is that the File Generator produces files that cannot be re-imported without manipulation. I think of the File Generator as a tool that provides "hints" regarding what your file should look like. One would hope that you could export a file using the File Generator and turn right back around and import it without errors. That isn't the case as of version 11.1.1.2.
    In a text file, in the Hierarchies section, you would not have "Alias" as your heading. Instead, it would be something like "Alias=Default". I would try changing this.
    In addition, you might want to add the following line to the Alias tab:
    #root|Default
    Hopefully this will get you a little further.
    Take Care,
    - Jake

  • Installed new SSD. How do I get my files back from Time Machine?

    Hi all, if you take the time to read my issue, thanks a lot. I appreciate any help you can offer, and sorry if anything is unclear...
    The 1tb drive eventually failed on my 2009 27", quad core i7 imac. I had USB backup using time machine to an external 2 tb disk.
    Repair guy took my mac to his shop, and installed a new samsung 1tb SSD.
    He had trouble reinstalling from my time machine backup - so he's just installing Yosemite (I was using 10.8.x?) and giving it back to me with a fresh install of Yosemite.
    When he tried to use time machine to restore my system to how it was, he started the process, and it said that it would take 13 hours, so he left it overnight.
    When he returned, he found a white screen with a frozen mouse pointer. He did a hard reboot, and then could not access the drive at all - the system would not allow him to read the drive and he had to take the drive out, reformat from another mac, and then install Yosemite again.
    Now he has suggested that I simply drag and drop all my folders from the USB time machine backup into my computer, and seems to think this will get things back to how they were. I'm not sure that it works like that though...I'd expect certain applications need to be installed, settings changed, permissions granted, passwords entered...that kind of thing.
    Now I have a choice - whether to
    A) reinstall my applications one at a time, and then copy the data from my backup drive.
    B) manually drag and drop all the files from the most recent backup folder into the "computer" folder. (This was his suggestion)
    C) attempt some kind of migration using the Migration assistant.  (I believe this is what the guy tried- he started it off, it said "13 hours remaining) he left it running overnight, and came back to a static white screen with frozen mouse, he powered down, then when he switched it back on, the screen did not load any OS (not sure whether it had booted into some kind of BIOS, but he said it was so unresponsive that he had to remove the drive and reformat it from another computer).
    D) Try some other application for intelligently restoring my apps and data from the Time Machine backup.
    To be honest, my main concern is screwing things up badly! I'm veering towards reinstalling my apps, even if it means fixing up preference settings and typing in codes etc... I would rather take a slow and steady approach rather than a "risk having to take it back to the shop/take it apart" approach.
    Also, is migration different from restoring from time-machine?
    Perhaps you could advise me? Many thanks

    Restart the computer and hold the Command & R keys.
    Thanks - I didn't know how to do that!
    I did that, and it went through the steps for restoring from the time machine backup. I didn't click on "restore" just yet... My concern is that when the guy in the shop tried that, it resulted in the serious failure that required the drive to be removed and formatted from another computer.
    I'm wondering what might have caused that - is it possible that the external drive had a failure, or (more likely) that the drive caddy it sits in briefly lost power or something?
    Also, can you tell me if simply drag-dropping the files from the time-machine backup would result in everything returning to its initial state? Or is that (as I suspect) a bad idea?
    Right now I have a fresh Yosemite install which works. I'd rather have that, and slowly restore my files and apps manually than risk getting the same result as the guy in the shop. Do you think that restoring from the restore partition is worth trying again?

  • How to do a clean install go yosemite and then just install certain files, apps, documents, phopt's, etc...from time machine backup?

    How to do a clean install of yosemite (have Mavericks 10.9.5 now) and then just install certain files, apps, documents, phopt's, etc...from time machine backup?

    Do a backup before doing anything.
    If you want to make a clean install of Mountain Lion, boot into the Recovery Volume (command - R) on a restart, use Disk Utility to Verify/Repair  the disk and run Repair Permissions. Then erase the hard drive using Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format using the Options button. Reinstall Yosemite. Restart normally and test. Use Setup Assistant or Migration Assistant to import what you want.

  • Restore files from last Time Machine backup after HD erase and install

    I just had to do an "erase and install" ... trying to restore files from my last Time Machine backup but after completing the Airport Utility setup / configure steps, it says "waiting to restart" for a few minutes and then says it cannot find TIme Capsule after restart (though TC never restarted). I'm pretty desperate to get my files back as it's Sunday night and my business needs to be up and running by morning. Any help would be greatly appreciated ... even if it's saying I need to take TC into a Mac store to have them retrieve my files.

    While in Time Machine, press the key combination shift-command-C. The front window will show all mounted volumes. All snapshots should now be accessible. Select the one you want and navigate to the files you want to restore.

  • Restoring files ONLY from Time Machine on a clean install of Leopard

    Hi folks. I've seen variations of this asked but not quite the answer I'm looking for.
    I want to do a clean install of Leopard and want to restore only files from a TM backup (mp3's, photos, docs, etc.). I don't want to incorporate apps, system files or the user account from the TM backup. Just a fresh installation of OS X on which I can incorporate my files from a TM backup without having to worry about incorporating unwanted programs, hidden files and whatnot. I used to do this on Windows all the time but can't figure out a way of doing it on OS X. Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

    What's user ID 501? So if I'm trying to import files from a TM backup and I have the same user ID, I won't be prompted to change it based on this method?
    you won't be prompted to change user ID but if the user IDs are different you'll be denied access to some folders (like the Documents folder) in your old home directory and won't be able to restore them. I presume the files you want to restore are there? this issue can be dealt with if it does arise but as I said if you only have one user on both computers this will not be an issue. just try it and see what happens.
