INSTALLING FAN on K7N2 Delta - ILSR

finally i got my fan (vantec ccb-a1c) BUT I DONT NO HOW TO INSTALL it cause they didnt give much directions...   what do i do with the 2 heatsinks thermal tape and other stuff... all it says on the package is to put the fan directly on the chip???

this is a shockwave flash for Vantecs install procedure. it doesn't look very difficult!

blazing storm's link is much more detailed - don't think you have to worry about the mounting on the rear on your board, so it should just clip off as shown

  • XP Install failed on K7N2 Delta-ILSR! Please help!

    Hi all
Just wondering if you an lend me a hand here. I have tried to install XP on my new hard disk, and half way though the install (when the GUI has loaded etc.) I generally get a stop error saying there has been a failure in ntfs.sys but I also had an error in IRQ allocation.
I have run memtest and I have received errors in tests 4, 5, 6 and 7 (about 1000 at the end of test 5). The memory I have is 512MB of DDR400 PC3200, Elixir RAM.
The readout on timings from memtest was:
    199MHz DDR399          CAS: 3-3-3-8
Do I need to send this memory back (ie is it f**ked?)
Here are the rest of my specs if necessary:
    AMD Athlon 1.0GHz (133MHz FSB) (L1 Cache: 128K, L2 Cache: 256K)
    PowerBox KY330ATX 350W Max PSU
    (Power ratings: +3.3V=15.0A
                          +5V=14.0A
                          +12V=8.0A
                          +5Vsb=2.0A
                          -5V=0.3A
                          -12V=1.0A)
    Western Digital Caviar 120GB 7200RPM 8MB Cache
    Radeon 9200Pro AGP8x
    Creative Soundblaster Live! 5.1
Anything else I've missed that might affect it, please just tell me.
If I need to adjust RAM timings etc please tell me how to do this.
If I just need to send the RAM back, well, thats easy.
    Cheers!

    Hi,
Wow! Are these for real? Are you sure you haven't made a mistake?

If they are correct, I'd seriously think about upgrading your PSU!!!
I don't think I've seen a +12v rail (8.0A) as low as this on the forum before!  (or is it a typo and it's really 18?)
General consensus on the forum is that the minimum recommended for these boards are (as a general rule):
    +3.3V - 28A
    +5V - 35A
    +12V - 18A
Also, does your PSU have the extra 12v+ (4-pin) that the K7N2 requires?
This may not be directly responsible for your memory problems (tho' I certainly wouldn't rule it out)!

  • Connenting System Fans on K7N2 Delta-ILSR

I have recently decided that I have to plug in one or more chasis fans in order to reduce my overall system temperature. The problem is that there is only one sysfan 3pin connector onboard and msi's chipset cooler is plugged into it. How can I connect my extra fans? Do I need an adaptor of somekind? I intent to buy a six-fan chasis, will I be able to connect them all?

Daisychain them directly from the power supply as Ironcatt has suggested

  • MSI K7N2 Delta-ILSR Noisy Northbridge fan

    Hi
I'm having a problem with the nforce chipset fan on my K7N2 Delta-ILSR.
It makes a horrible wailing sound when cold booting and is only running at about 2500rpm instead of 4000rpm.
It does this usually for about 30 seconds then runs normally.
Does it just need cleaning   or is it on it's way out?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi,

  • MSI K7N2 Delta ILSR - Noisy Grinding Motherboard Fan

    Hi,
The Motherboard Fan on my MSI K7N2 Delta ILSR has started to make a terrible grinding noise and I was hoping someone could offer some help on how to replace it.
Some of the questions I have are -
+ Is the Motherboard Fan screwed on or glued on?
+ Could I replace it with a suitable heatsink (no fan)?*
+ If it is glued on, what is the best way to remove it?
+ If it is glued on, could I just unplug it and stick a new fan on top of the existing one?
+ Has anyone else had this problem and if so what did you do to fix it?
    * I was looking at a Zalman Motherboard Heatsink from http://www.quietpc.com/uk/vgamb.php
    Thanks in advance, Jason.

  • HELP me with my K7N2 delta ilsr

Can anyone help me with this problem. I have just upgraded to MSI's K7N2 delta ilsr motherboard. Its all working quite well apart from the fact that the pc wont start up from cold....at all.
When I start the pc from an off state, it runs up the fans and drives, but does not post.
The diagnostic led pannel on the back of the pc shows that the cpu is faulty or not installed correctly.
If I then press the reset button, the pc posts, and boots up just fine.
It does this EVERY time I start up.
I have tried re installing the cpu, which is an XP 2800+ 333 barton, but to no avail.
I have asked a few questions on other forums, but I cant solve it.
These are the suggestions so far.
    1. the psu (I have a Tsunami 400 atx psu) could not be giving out enough power on initial startup, but once the pc is running, it has enough to boot the pc from a reset.
    2. The mobo or the bios could be at fault. I have not flashed the bios, or upgraded it in any way from original, so is there an issue with the original bios on these boards, and 2800 barton chips??? Could it be a mobo fault? The pc runs fine once the machine is booted.? how do I test it?
    3. The cpu could be faulty? but would this not stop it running fuull stop?
    4. my ram. I have a single stick of OCZ 512mb pc3200 ddr, which I was told would make the pc fly. Not shure on that statement, but is this ram compatible?? could this be the problem?
Im fairly new to the upgrade side of things, and I need some help with this one.
Also, Id be really greatfull if some one could talk me through flashing my bios to the latest version, as the thought of doing this narks me a bit...I dont want to mess it up and get a dead pc...

  • Dont find any connection for PFC on K7N2 Delta ILSR

    Hi !
Just bought a MSI Motherboard K7N2 Delta ILSR
Looking for the connector pin for my PFC  ( Power fan Control)
I can only find two fanconnectors on the board
    CPU and System
SORRY if this question has been asked before
searched the Forum but did not find anything

I just installed this same board. I only found 2 also, so I suppose that is all there is.  If you are trying to set the system up so you can monitor the power supply temps and fan, here is what I did.
The chipset fan is a 12V fan, so unplug it from the motherboard and power it by using an adapter so you can run it off one of the Molex leads.  I do not know if they make these because I fabricated the wiring myself.  You will not be able to monitor the chipset temps though.
To fab the connector, I just used the wiring from an old system fan and soldered two small pins (about  one-quarter of an inch long), covered each lead with heat shrink and plugged them in via a standard Molex connector.  Make sure that you do not leave any of the pin exposed, ie: (the heat shrink should push up to the plastic of the chipset fan connector)..  I finished it by covering the new connector with heat shrink to make sure it didnot come apart.
Now you can use the northbridge fan control for the pfc.  This has worked good for me, and was $30 cheaper than a fan controller unit

  • Someone plz help me with my k7n2 delta-ilsr

    Hey everyone,
I just put my sytem togother and ran into a problem.  I got the system to boot up just fine.  It was not until I tried installing windows xp proffesional that  I ran into problems.  The installation process runs pretty smoothly, until the computer reboots to run windows for the first time.  After it reboots the windows logo appears and the after 2 seconds or so, a blue screen appears saying that windows was shut down to prevent any damage to my computer.  I have never encountered this problem before when I built other systems.  The screen suggests that I should check my HDD's for viruses or check to see if they are configured correctly.  The HDD's are SATA and I have them set up in RAID 0 mode and yeah I installed the RAID drivers during the installation process.  Thinking that I had made mistake setting up the SATA drives, tried installing windows using a regular IDE hard drive and it gave the same message.  I am stumped anybody have any ideas of what I might be doing wrong?  Any help would be appreciated .  My system specs are below.

Memory that comes with timing of 5 2 2 2 or 6 2 2 2 or usally winbond BH-5 memory chips. Ones with 5 3 2 2 or CH-5 winbond chips. The BH-5 chips overclock a little better than the CH-5. (Muskin uses BH-5 winbond in there black ram)
Winbond is no longer making BH-5 chips but is going to make a limited run of them as demend is high for them.
The first number shown here is the Traz and it controls the flush timing bench testing is showing that a higher number of 9, 10 or 11 or getting better bench results than the 6 or 5. Thats with Dual Channel memory.
The timing you show probly should be something  like 8 3 3 3 or 8 3 3 2.5 unless it is there faster Dual channel ram.
The timing numbers can also appear like this 2 2 2 5 the high number is the Traz either way.
Look on your memory manufactor web site for the timing that if should run at also look at the voltage as this can make a big differance.

  • Strange phantom restarts on MSI K7N2 Delta ILSR

Just wanted to see if I could get opinions on this. My MSI K7N2 Delta ILSR mobo runs real nice now, but still, on occasion, very rare and intermittently, it will just restart. Not likely a heat issue, as the temps are nice and low. Also, not just happenning when I'm playing a game or anything strenuous. Did it once while checking email, once during install of an MS Office program, and once during a game. Could it be my old Gforce 2 MX 200 video card, as the picture sometimes gets wavy (like fine waves on an ocean), and the old computer it was in did similar things, or is it common with this mobo.
    MSI K7N2 Delta ILSR
    Athlon XP 2500+ Barton
1026 MB Kingston DDR RAM (2x512 Dual)
    Gforce 2 MX 200 AGP 4x
    WD 60 GB 7200 RPM

I had errors on test 4 not 5 with Winbond 2-512 Dual Channel called Hardcore Cooling and they said that getting errors with memtest86 may not mean that the ram is defective, it may not be compatible with the memory comtrol and they had me RMA it back. I also was not able to run the ram stable at there advertized rate of 6 2 2 2 it was only stable at 8 3 3 2.5
I replaced it with OCZ after talking to there Tech support people about compatiblety problems with the Nvidia chipset. Sense I installed the OCZ I only had one ram reboot and when I checked I was running the voltage at 2.5 and OCZ said that I should be running at 2.6. They also said that I could run it up to 2.8 with no worry.
Look on manufactor web site to see what ram timing yours should be running at and what voltage, Auto setting in Bios is not always the best setting.
If it still not stable at manufactor spec than I'd talk to who ever you bought it from about replacing it or refund and buy something thats on the Nvidia compatible list.
Most ram manufactors have a list of motherboards that there ram will work on but sometimes the newer boards like K7N2 or not listed yet as still working that out.

....d-bracket from MSI K7N2 Delta ILSR is 1,3,4 red and 2 green. Which is according the the manual "Memory Detection Test"-if the memory module is damaged or not installed properly.
Why woudl a memory suddenly not work?
I know I was adjusting bios for this and that....
I think just before this happened.. I adjusted something on agp setting... but what ahs that got to do with memory?

  • Data corruption on MSI K7N2 Delta ILSR

    Hi all,
Just got my new MSI K7N2 Delta ILSR up and running.
Got some issues with the memory running at 200mhz while the Barton core of my Athlon Xp 2600+ was running 166mhz, this had to be 1:1 (thx forum  )
While running the default bios settings with cpu/mem at 166/166 fsb everything is stable as hell. I have been running Prime95 for 2 days now and using the system for dvd ripping/encoding, UT2004 gaming etc.
Then the overclocking began   I'm using the standard AMD cooler that came with my boxed Xp2600+ so I didn't expect an FSB of 200mhz.
I stopped at an FSB of 190mhz...been crunching Prime95 for 18 hours now and again very stable.
Now comes the problem : Sometimes I get crc errors when installing a game or decrypting a dvd!! But how can this be? Prime95 is stable at this 190fsb overclock.
When using an FSB of 166mhz no data corruption or crc errors.
What can this be? It's not the cables because they're all the same as in my old setup which was running (ahum...walking) stable. PCI/AGP speeds are locked when overclocking...
Only thing I can think of is the power supply. I've read in a warning post from Bas that the Q-Tec 550w psu I have is crap. So my guess is PSU, but maybe it's something else I'm forgetting...Any suggestions??
The stupid thing is when I'm not overclocking I don't have the data corruption problems, but I'm still using the same crappy Q-Tec 550w PSU.
    Help!
    gr,
    Remco

Hmmm, that's curious. On the MSI K7N2 Delta ILSR product page Kingston memory is recommended
Ok, did a Memtest86 v1.11 pass at cpu/dimm 166/166 - no problems whatsoever. I think using Prime95 would have revealed memory problems...but will do another pass with cpu/dimm at 190/190.
Can overclocking affect the Promise Raid Controller?? It should be locked like the PCI/AGP but who knows...
Well, I still have to replace my PSU but I'm not 100% sure that this is the problem. What PSU would you recommend? ...and I'm also thinking about replacing the standard CPU cooler, any advice is welcome

  • MSI K8T Neo2 F vs. MSI K7N2 Delta ILSR

    Hi there !
I have an amd Athlon XP 3200+ overheating problem, and contacted the technical support of the shop where the processor and CPU was coming from.
Since they do not have any XP 3200+ to replace mine, they propose me to replace fro free :
    - the XP 3200+ by an AMD Athlon 64 3200+
    - my actual MSI K7N2 delta ILSR by an MSI K8T Neo2 F
    ... and this for free.
Since I do not know this new motherboard that has been proposed, I'd like to have advice on if this is a good deal ?!?
    My actual system has :
    - an Aluminium case with 2x 12cm FAN's
    - 2 IDE hard drives
    - 1 SATA hard drive
    - TWINX Corsair XMS 2x256MB PC 3200L (Extreme low latency)
    - an AGP 8x video card
    - An Antec True Power 480W.
will the new motherboard fit with this configuration?
Many thanks for your input !

Not really, unless you really want to oc your cpu. The K8T boards aren't that good in OC-ing. But still, some is possible and you'll be sure that the board is as steady as a rock.
For a moment I thought you were talking about a Neo board ... but I just saw it's a Neo2. That means Socket 939 -> dual channel RAM.
The only risk you have now, is that your RAM won't work in dual channel with the CPU. But that's not really a board-problem, more a CPU/RAM-controller related problem. But then, it's still a great offer and chances are good that it will work. If you run into any trouble, RAM-related, just flash bios to version 1.9 and you will probably be just fine.

  • MSI K7N2 Delta ILSR Memory problems

I'm trying to burn in a system in a 50 deg C (122 deg F) room for a minimum of 12 hours.  The main system components are as follows:
    Motherboard:  MSI K7N2 Delta ILSR
    CPU: AMD Athlon XP 2800+
    Memory: 2x512 OCZ PC3200 EL
My problem is that the burn-in software continues to freeze up during the memory test.  I've already contacted the software manufacturers and the software is stable.  It's a problem with the way the motherboard handles the memory.  I've tried putting the memory in dual channel configuration and changing the timing settings in the BIOS.  The SPD settings are 2.5-3-3-7.  Right now I have them at 3-4-3-8.  It's a lot more stable than it was under the default settings but it still freezes up sometime after 7 hours.  Unfortunately, I wasn't around when it froze so I don't know exactly how long it lasted.  I can say that after 7 hours, it wasn't showing any slowdown in performance.  If anyone could think of anything else I might be able to do to get the system stable, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks for the suggestions.  The CPU FSB is 200, so it's already matched up there.  And we have a ton of fans already.  There are two in the front, 4 inside and 1 on the back.  It's a custom case, 2u high.  The power supply is oversized and more than adequate to provide the required power.  I have four of these units running right now.  Two with 2x512 sticks and two with 1x1024 sticks.  For each combination, the memory clock speed for one is 166 and 200 for the other.  I have been loosening up the memory timings trying to get the system stable, but it still isn't.  If the power supply is good, and I'm unable to cool the system anymore due to limititions within the case, is there anything you can think of to stabilize the system.  Maybe other settings in the BIOS or suggestions on how to go about getting good timings for the memory.  Thanks.
