Installing Firefox (latest) deletes Thunderbird (latest) on my Win7 64 system. Have been running this combination for years without problems, until now.
When Firefox bombs Thunderbird, I re-install Thunderbird and it bombs Firefox. When I say "bombs" I mean that the Thunderbird quicklaunch icon turns into a generic icon and Thunderbird will not run. The same thing happens when I have Firefox running and I install Thunderbird. I ran a malware scan using Malwarebytes and Norton and my system is clean. I am able to run both Chrome and IE 10 without issue. I'm stumped and would be grateful for your suggestions. I'm running a dual boot Win 7 and 8 system without issue except for this. I have not tried this on the Windows 8 partition, as i use Windows 7 almost exclusively. The only other thing I can think of is that this is a relatively new computer build and I used MozBackup to transfer my e-mail files and contacts from my old computer to Thunderbird and Firefox to the new build. Not sure if that could be the cause of the problem I'm experiencing.

Thanks for your reply edmeister. I am not installing both to the default location (C drive), which is the relatively small SSD drive on which I've installed Windows 7 and 8. I'm custom installing to E drive, which holds all my programs and music. I've not done anything special with the dual boot; the windows boot loader detected both operating systems and created a boot menu at startup. I'm not sure if I'm sharing the Firefox and Thunderbird profiles with both partitions. All I know is to get a single program to work on both partitions (operating systems) I have to install it twice, once in each operating system, on my E drive. I guess this registers the program with each operating system, but it installs only one copy of Firefox, for example, as best I can tell. So maybe I am sharing something between both partitions. Don't know how else to do it. Even though installing the portable version of Firefox per cyborg's suggestion works, I'm interested in getting the regular version of Firefox working.

I had recently had to shut down my firewall to add a printer. However firefox worked for a few days afterward just today decided not to be able to open. All that happens is the hour glass for a few seconds then nothing to error messages or ant reponse. I have tried to start in safe mode and turned off my computer then turned back on. Please advise.

Thanks but I have tried doing the above - when I said 7 times I was modest, its more like 15 times.
And I am referring to the 5.1 software update. I dont have wifi so I guess I will have to try that seeing that my husband also has the same problem - he has also tried downloading several times. It always times out en says that the connection is lost but yet there are always an internet connection and a decent signal once it stopped. Think it said error 32052 or something!
I am disappointed because the update includes inprovement on the battery life - did you guys notice any difference? -
After installing the latest version of IOS my iPhone 4s rapidly runs out of power, it also suddently (fully charged) shuts down and restarts without me asking for it. I tried to reinstall the latest version of IOS but it doesnt help. Any advice?
Backup and restore your software via iTunes. If the problem continues, restore as a NEW device. If this solves it, that means there is some corruption in your backup file. If the problem is still there, you should take it to the Genius Bar at an Apple Store for evaluation.

I cannot install the latest version of itunes as I have old versions of bonjour and quicktime. I can't remove these programs either. Help please as I have tried almost everything I have found so far on the the web.
Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (The results from mydigitallife and Major Geeks are worth checking.)
After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Bonjour and QuickTime entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp. Restart the PC, and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time? -

I have a similar issue happenning with my ipod touch 64GB running IOS 6.0.1. My music content is stored via itunes on my Snow Leopard macbook pro as well (and not in the cloud). The music on my ipod (which is sync'd to my macbook pro when I connect via usb) has randomly disappeared about 3 or 4 times lately, not during sync'ing and unrelated to battery charge levels. Fortunately I have been able to restore it by restarting my macbook pro then re-syncing the ipod, which it is now doing as I write, but it takes hours (for over 3000 songs). Having looked at a few other forum discussion pages, it seems this may be a bug related to IOS 6 updates and using music/itunes and podcast playing apps. The same thing has intermittently occurred with some other content such as downloaded podcasts, iplayer content and photos. Once I reconnected the ipod it synced and apparently restored the content, but I can't understand why it lost it in the first place, and its very annoying. Lets hope the reinstalling works on my ipod tonight....up to 248 of 3326 songs syncing as I write....

I have a PowerPC G5 quad core Mac with a pre-intel chip. I have been running Firefox successfully for over five years and have used every version in operation during that time. Tonight, I received notice that the latest version of 3.6 was ready to install and that I needed to restart. I did that and was taken to a page telling me that 4.0 was available for downloading and use. So I downloaded the new 4.0 and tried to install it in the typical Mac fashion. After clicking on the dmg, I dragged the icon into my applications folder and onto the dock. But when I click on the icon on the dock, I get the message: The application cannot be launched. 10661
When I try to launch by double clicking in the applications folder, I get the message: You cannot open the application Firefox because it is not supported on this system.
I had to go to your site using Safari of all things! I tried re-installing it with another download, and that one misbehaves in the same way. By the way, in case it matters, I still have 42 GB available on my hard drive and 5 GB of RAM.
There is one other funny thing. The Firefox icon from the disk image has a white circle with the slash through it on top of the fox and world symbol. That is what appears in my applications folder and in my dock. It appears to be saying NOT FIREFOX, as it would indicate in a NO U-TURN sign. What is this all about?I have had a similar problem with my system. I just recently (within a week of this post) built a brand new desktop. I installed Windows 7 64-bit Home and had a clean install, no problems. Using IE downloaded an anti-virus program, and then, because it was the latest version, downloaded and installed Firefox 4.0. As I began to search the internet for other programs to install after about maybe 10-15 minutes my computer crashes. Blank screen (yet monitor was still receiving a signal from computer) and completely frozen (couldn't even change the caps and num lock on keyboard). I thought I perhaps forgot to reboot after an update so I did a manual reboot and it started up fine.
When ever I got on the internet (still using firefox) it would crash after anywhere between 5-15 minutes. Since I've had good experience with FF in the past I thought it must be either the drivers or a hardware problem. So in-between crashes I updated all the drivers. Still had the same problem. Took the computer to a friend who knows more about computers than I do, made sure all the drivers were updated, same problem. We thought that it might be a hardware problem (bad video card, chipset, overheating issues, etc.), but after my friend played around with my computer for a day he found that when he didn't start FF at all it worked fine, even after watching a movie, or going through a playlist on Youtube.
At the time of this posting I'm going to try to uninstall FF 4.0 and download and install FF 3.6.16 which is currently on my laptop and works like a dream. Hopefully that will do the trick, because I love using FF and would hate to have to switch to another browser. Hopefully Mozilla will work out the kinks with FF 4 so I can continue to use it.
I apologize for the lengthy post. Any feedback would be appreciated, but is not necessary. I will try and post back after I try FF 3.16.6. -
On a Windows 7 computer I installed Firefox 9.0.1 and in my edit menu I have NO Preferences at the bottom, so there is no way to adjust any settings The edit menu opens up and I have undo, redo, cut, copy, paste,delete,select all, find....but NO Preferences at the bottom. This is a new laptop and nothing like skype is installed. The Firefox install is new today 1/6/12

What are you actually looking for? On Windows 7 your options will be under ''Tools > Options''. If you have the ''Firefox'' menu, you can hit ''Alt'' to temporarily enable the menu bar.
Your System details say Linux. Your say you are on Windows 7 though, correct? -
@I run a Windows 8.1 - Photoshop CS5 under Parallels on an iMac one year old and both having the latest OS. I use a NIK plugin "VIVEZA" which run fine for years without a problem. Latelt and without a reason, the NIK plugin has gone corrupt, (can not use it more the 2 corrections after a get a black background message that there is not enough memory) and the system stops running and a must restart is required. How do I fix this terrible problem?
If it requires a Photoshop CS5 re-install, (I belief that it may fix the problem) and re-install the two third party plugins (NIK Viveza) and (Onone Perfect Resize) how and where do I get to the proper Adobe upload page to do that.
I have tried to fix this problem by changing the memory allocations, I have spend many hours on it and are very disgusted with it but it needs to be fixed. The current memory settings are;
Ram available = 1588 MB
Range = 873 -1143 MB
Recommended Photoshop usage range = 857 however I have tried every setting to max and in between. Nothing works. Current setting = 1588 (max)
The Photoshop I use is registered, I have product # and order # .Contact NIK for updated/upgraded versions of their plug-ins. They have been having a lot of issues with their plug-ins.
