Installing Firefox on my computer

I can't download, let alone actually install firefox. After I select save, a box appears asking whether I wish to do this as the administrator, asking for a password, or as myself. I select myself, the box goes away, as does the whole download process. I'm sick to death of this!
Is there anything I can do - I'm currently using Google Chrome and am trying to switch back to Firefox. Firefox won't start, so all I can think of doing is re-installing it.

I've used Malwarebytes previously, and it didn't help greatly. I don't really fancy downloading more security software right now, as I'm certain that that's part of the reason for why I'm in the current situation.
Certain things are missing, or just nor functioning properly, and I don't know what's good and what's bad.
I've looked in CNET, seen good reviews, only to products bagged by other people, and vice versa.
Norton completely stuffed up my old computer, so I have my own reservations about security software.
I'm not trying to bag what you're saying.
I'll try the safe mode option, but if I don't have a short cut, i.e. it's just in the start menu, I don't actually need to double click Firefox, do I? I'll see how I go.

When you say "it just says it loading up" I assume that the window has appeared, and your start page is not loading.
Do you have any security software that might be getting in the way? Firewall? Anti-virus?

  • How can i i install firefox on a computer i can't download it directly to

I need to make a copy of firefox to install on a computer that can't download from internet because IE is not installed how do i do this

    Hey scopeland,
I'd say your best bet would be to download the Firefox installer and put it on a flash stick. Then you can plug it into the computer that doesn't have IE and install Firefox that way.
    Hope this helps!

    How old is that EeePC?
If that is one of the original versions, from 2007 - 2009, the Xandros operating system doesn't support anything newer than Firefox 2.0 !
I have a EeePC 900, and in 2009 I installed EasyPeasy OS [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EasyPeasy] so that I could run Firefox 3.6. Unfortunately, EasyPeasy was discontinued in 2012 altogether, but work on it had quit in like 2010 when Ubuntu started adding files needed for Netbooks like the EeePC.
Overall, ASUS used a weird OS to begin with on the first EeePC 700 model - Xandros, which was already a couple of years behind the Linux-curve as far as security updates and file version levels. And then ASUS didn't provide funding to the team that created Xandros to make it more up-to-date.
Then there is the issue of Microsoft seeing the Netbook market slip thru their fingers, and MS putting pressure on ASUS to use a "Lite" version of WinXP, which did become an option after the 900 versions. But that's another story ...
Bottom line is that you need a different, newer Operating System for that device to be able to use a newer version of Firefox. Best thing to do is to head over to the Ubuntu support fora and ask about an appropriate Linux distro for your EeePC.
    http://ubuntuforums.org/
I don't use my EeePC for the purpose I originally got it for ''(the company I worked in for 2008 went bust in 2010 - I was an outside service rep and did on-site job reporting with the EeePC which fit in my toolbag)'', and I never updated it beyond EasyPeasy and Firefox 3.6. I use it now on my local network in my home and don't go on the internet with it. Basically a terminal on the network for viewing and editing locally saved files when I am watching TV, during commercials.

  • My.yahoo did not properly come over from IE when installing Firefox on another computer

We downloaded Firefox today on another computer. All favorites came in. my.yahoo.com came in all jumbled up. We set my.yahoo.com as our home page. Cannot get home page un-jumbled. Tried re-starting and re-loading Firefox. yahoo.com comes in, but can't move things around to what we want. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. This computer is fine.

  • How do I install Firefox in English on a computer in Mexico?

''I have a Dell 2009 computer with 4 gigs of memory. I am running Windows 7 home ultimate. My home is in San Carlos Mexico. I had Firefox installed with the Windows 7 as my web browser. I uninstalled Windows 7 and went back to Windows XP service pack 3. After realizing my dumb error I had Windows 7 re-installed, but when I download Firefox it only installs in Spanish(which I don't speak). I have tried many times to reinstall it(I even have my IP address located in the United States via Hide-My-Ip aplication) but it still installs in Spanish. My question is: How can I install Firefox on my computer? Would a cd with Firefox on it work? Please advise as I really like Firefox much better than IE(which installed on my computer in English ok).Thank you for your prompt response. Charles Yoder

You can get the English version from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html

  • I recently got a new laptop. I then installed Firefox on the new computer. How do I get my bookmarks from my other laptop to use on this computer?

I have a new ASUS laptop and when I installed Firefox on this computer, I could not find my bookmarks that were on my old ACER laptop. How do I fix this?

    Hi valierie,
    To Authorize your Windows laptop:
    1.     Open iTunes and sign on with your Apple/iTunes ID
    2.     Press CTL+B to display the top menu
    3.     Click on Store in that Menu
    4.     In the dropdown, you should see "Authorize This Computer"
    5.     Click on that to authorize the computer to your iTunes ID
    Cheers,

  • How do I install firefox when I don't have any browser?

    Hi there,
I just had to wipe my hard drive clean and reinstall windows and all my docs and software. The tech folks didn't reinstall any browser--so now how do I download one? (I'm using another computer now.)
    Thanks for your help!

You can download the Firefox installer via the computer that you use now and copy the file to an USB stick or CD-ROM to install Firefox on your computer.
You can find all Firefox versions here: http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html

  • Firefox slows the computer down

Almost immediately after installing Firefox 4 my computer started to run slowly. Not just Firefox itself, the RSS Ticker add-on barely moved across the screen; but it affected MS Outlook too. It also affected the Windows Explorer.
I found an old copy of Firefox 3.5 and reinstalled that and now everything is working fine.
    Open to suggestions.

On a Windows 7 computer I installed Firefox 9.0.1 and in my edit menu I have NO Preferences at the bottom, so there is no way to adjust any settings The edit menu opens up and I have undo, redo, cut, copy, paste, delete, select all, find....but NO Preferences at the bottom. This is a new laptop and nothing like skype is installed. The Firefox install is new today 1/6/12

    Hi bruce,
What are you actually looking for? On Windows 7 your options will be under ''Tools > Options''. If you have the ''Firefox'' menu, you can hit ''Alt'' to temporarily enable the menu bar.
Your System details say Linux. Your say you are on Windows 7 though, correct?

  • Firefox will not open for other users on a shared computer with individual accounts one day after installing Firefox

On a computer that is shared with multiple users(3),two of the users cannot open Firefox, only one user can. It shows the blue circle (Windows 7) but it disappears and does not open. Task Manager shows its running, but after closing,it won't open. Are there settings to adjust in Windows,or on Internet Options?
I am running Windows 7 Ultimate with SP1 installed.

Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
'''Note:''' You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    #*'''Windows:'''
    #**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    #**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*'''Mac:''' Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*'''Linux:''' If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see [[Installing Firefox on Linux]]. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop Firefox download page], simply remove the folder ''firefox'' in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
Please report back to see if this helped you!
