Installing Flash on mbp (shipped with lion) safe?

Hello
I have just just received my new MBP with Lion pre-installed and was wondering whether it is safe or not installing flash player?
I'm totally new in the world of mac and after having read a few articles I wasn't that sure anymore of what to do...
thanks

Flash is as safe as Adobe makes it.  There are occasional security updates regarding it.  Some animated websites require it, while others do not.  Play around with websites and see if any really needs it that you really need access to.  If you find some do, you should also recommend they consider switching their Flash to HTML5, which eats up less processor cycles, and because it is maintained by the open source community is more likely to be secure.  Don't click on animated advertisements and banners, unless you are absolutely certain they are legit.    Don't believe any popup saying you should install asking you to install anti-virus software.  Just close those windows with the red button in the upper left corner and proceed going through websites.  If they make a window you can't close, bookmark any sites you are on, and quit the web browser.

  • My new iMac is not shipping with Lion installed. Will I be able to do a Migration from my PC to my iMac without installing Lion first?

My new iMac is not shipping with Lion installed. Will I be able to do a Migration from my PC to my new iMac? I only want to transfer photos and my music, currently on my PC (and on my iPod Touch & iPad).
Can anyone give me a list of steps to follow or let me know if Migration Assistant is available prior to Lion for PC to Mac?
Thank you so so so much!

    SweetDee,
I'd be VERY surprised if your machine was not shipping with Lion installed. However even if it doesn't when you initally install Lion it will launch into Setup Assistant, if you follow the prompts it will ask if you are migrating from another machine. You can use Pondini's Lion Setup Assistant tips for help, look for the section(s) on MS Windows migration. Also I would strongly recommend bookmarking and studying the following sites:

In closing remember you have 90 days of free telephone support with AppleCare. If you run into trouble they will be happy to assist or if you have an Apple Store in your area you can book an appointment with a Genius and they can usually help you out.

  • Snow leopard on macbook pro shipped with lion

A question from Sweden: Can you install SL 10.6 on a macbook pro that shipped with Lion?

your going to need another Mac that can boot off the disks, then T boot off the target Mac first so it's FireWire Target Disk Mode, then connect a Firewire cable then hold c boot off the 10.6 disk, erase the factory Lion machine completely and install OS X 10.6
The firmware will not you boot from earlier OS X install disks on a factory Lion box. You have to work around it to get it on the drive, but once it's there it will be fine.
I just did this, and did not have to Target boot at all. The machine booted right up off the replica 10.6.7 DVD, and was perfectly happy to install 10.6 right over 10.7 without erasing anything. No wacky side effects except a few settings had to be set again where Lion's settings were too different.
If you only have the "Full Retail" 10.6.3 disc, then you WILL have to use another older Mac as intermediary, since the 2011 MacBook Pro needs at least 10.6.6 to boot.
Mine was a refururb, and because it has originally been sold with 10.6, there WAS a 10.6 disc they could copy and send me. They muttered about "ranges of serial numbers". The "first responders" do not know these are available, so you have to be firm, but polite. The answer for your specific Mac may still be no. By year-end, the answer will always be NO.

  • Will iMac ship with Lion if I order it today?

There's no "Ships with Lion" on the iMac and MacBook Pro page. Only MacBook Air and Mac mini do, so I wondered if I place an order for a new iMac today, will I get Lion pre-installed?

Yes if you buy directly from Apple. Worst case, you will get a free redeem code.

  • When will new Macs (MacBook Pros) be shipped with Lion?

When will newly ordered Macs be shipped with Lion pre-installed?

If not today, within the week, I'd imagine.

  • New Macbook pro shipped with Lion, cannot boot from SL CD

I have a brand new Macbook pro 17" - shipped with Lion, cannot boot from snow-lopard disk - tech said I would be able to downgrade. I cant because if I try to boot from the CD it just beeps 3 times. Boots just fine from a Lion startup disk I created first. What the heck is going on here? Very upset that i cannot reach apple support in the evening any longer. If anyone can help it would be awsome. Tnx good prople.

    Hi Paul,
Just a quick question, are your Fn keys working properly and the 2 fingered scrolling?
I've done much the same with the help of 2 Apple Geniuses who found me an original 10.6.7 install disk for a my new macbook pro.
It installed OK but... Fn keys don't work apart from F3 and F12, the rest give an error sound. 2 fingered scrolling on the trackpad doesn't work either.
Mine was a custom build 15" with hi res glossy screen - I wonder if they've put in the newer wired keyboard mentioned here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4809
or, if my problem relates to being on 10.6.7...
Any info would be gratefully received.

  • I want to install Flash on a computer with no internet access.  How do I do this?

I want to install Flash on a computer with no internet access.  When I tried to download, I got a message that Flash is already installed.  Yes, it is, on my PC.  I want it on my laptop, too.  How do I accomplish this?

Download the Adobe Flash Player offline FULL installer directly by right clicking one of the following links and selecting "Save target as" (IE), "Save Link As" (FIrefox) or "Download Linked File As" (Safari).
Flash Player 12.0.0.44 for ActiveX (Internet Explorer)
Flash Player 12.0.0.44 Plug-in (All other browsers)
Flash Player 12.0.0.44 (Mac OS X)

  • Is it possible to downgrade an iMac (model no. a1311) that originally shipped with Lion to Snow Leopard-?

Is it possible to downgrade an iMac (model no. a1311) that originally shipped with Lion to Snow Leopard…?

    Maybe:

If you find Snow Leopard is really required, you may find getting a used or refurbished Mac that shipped new before July 20, 2011 is preferable*:

  • Why I can't install Flash Builder 4.6 with a Master Collection Serial Number?

    Hi all,
downloaded Flash builder 4.6, i had a Master collection 5.5 suite which includes (obviously) Flash Builder 4.5,1.
I found that I can’t install the 4.6 version with the serial number of the Master Collection.
The Adobe support told me thet I can’t install the single packet but I can upgrade the entire suite of (probably) six months when the 6.0 version will becomes available.
    I feel cheated.
I spent a lot of money to buy and upgrade the entire suite and now I can’t upgrade Flash Builder only.
    Can you help me?
If there is not a solution I think I'll nerver upgrade the suite anymore, I'will port all of my mobile code in Objective-C and "tanti saluti".

    Deeptika's answer is very helpful.
Now, this is how I activated the FB 4.6, using theMaster Collection CS 5.5 serial number:
1.- Uninstalled Flash Builder 4.5 from the MC (Select the 'Delete preferencies'- checkbox).
2.- Deleted and cleaned all program's cache with CCleaner.
3.- Installed Flash Builder 4.6 in TRIAL MODE, and -IMPORTANT!- Be sure that you are selecting the SAME LANGUAGE on wich you installed your Master Collection!!
(I had some troubles because I didn't remember that I installed the MC with "Español", and I tried to install FB 4.6 in "Español (Latinoamerica)").
4.- After a reboot of my PC, I opened Flash Builder 4.6.
5.- It asked me for a serial number, I had to wrote down my Master Collection's serial number.
6.- I was happy because my FB 4.6 serial number was accepted, (after three unsuccesful attempts because of the wrong language installation).
    So, everything is about languages.
In the last case, maybe you should uninstall your entire Master Collection (including Flash Builder 4.5) and then reinstall it (without FB 4.5). Then install FB 4.6.
Yep, this is a little annoying, but now I can use the Flash Builder 4.6. It worth the work.
Let us now if you could install your FB 4.6 succesfuly.
    Regards!

  • Whats the difference between Garageband, iMovie etc. that ship with Lion and the ones in the Apple Store?

Given that the same version numbers are the same why should I pay another £10.50 for each app when Lion itself only cost £21 and contains iPhoto, IMovie and Garageband?

    Hi,
When you bought your MacBook, it came with an operating system, Snow Leopard, pre-installed.
It also came with some applications, including iPhoto, iMovie and Garageband, pre-installed.
But the iLife applications aren't part of Snow Leopard, or of Lion.
They're separate applications, and Apple gives them to you for free when you buy a new Mac.
If you launch iPhoto, then go to the iPhoto menu and choose "About iPhoto", you can find out what version of iPhoto you're running. You can also check for software updates, and if they are available you will be able to download them.
Your MacBook is very new, and I would be almost certain that the version of iPhoto you're running is the same as the version in the AppleStore.
But if Apple upgraded iLife to a new version (possibly iLife 12) you would have to pay for that if you wanted it.
And if Apple upgraded Lion to a new version (possibly Ocelot ) you would have to pay for that separately. It would not include the iLife applications.

  • Week 23 MBP ships with new MLB?

I have a week 23 MBP 2Ghz Glossy, does it have the new MLB installed? I really dont want to wait on hold for ever just to find out that mine already has it.
    TIA
    -Tyler

    Then whew... I have a week 26!
The problem is: not all week 26 have the new boards I think they started using them somewhere in week 26. I, too, have a week 26 and I have the old board (and the whine).
An indicator on whether you have the new board or not is the following: if your MBP came with Mac OS 10.4.6, then you probably have the new version. Otherwise you definitely don't.
If your MBP doesn't whine, I'd not worry about it anyway

which version of Flash Player do you have installed currently? http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
it may be that youtube requires a more recent updated player version than the one you have.
Note:  We released Flash Player 11, 11,0,1,152, Monday night.  this is the most current player available: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

  • I just purchased a MacBook Pro from my college, it shipped with Lion; is there anyway I can update the software to Moutain Lion without having to pay $20 since it is brand new?

It is "last years model" and it came shipped with Mac OS X 10.7.5. I was just wondering if I could update for free since it is brand new mac?

Supposedly if you purchase 10.8 and check out, if the machine is one on the list the account is not charged.
I can't confirm this, but that's what one person reported back as what occured.
