  • Form report with both edit and column link

    hi experts,
How can we create form report with both edit and column link. Ie, the form should have both the Edit link and column link. When we click on the edit link(in page1) it should go for the page2 and the page2 should display the corresponding row fields which should be editable. but when i click the column link it should bring me to the next page but the corresponding values of the column should not be editable.
    Regars,

    hi,
Here i have achieved this by making the column link and page navigation.

  • Installing forms 6i with 8i enterprise edition

First of all, I'm a beginner just trying to learn all I can about Oracle. I downloaded 8i enterprise edition and forms 6i from the OTN. I installed 8i with no problems and have been running it just fine. I decided to install forms 6i but when I did it would not let me install to the same default "home81", so I installed it in "home82". My first question is did I screw up royally and if so can I fix it. Second, after loading forms 6i, I viewed the configuration steps for Oracle forms and I'm trying to figure out where to go and performs the "Actions" that it refers to. As I said before, I am a beginner, so any advice, help, etc. would be greatly appreciated. One last question: does anyone know of any good sites to get info on forms developer to help me along in my learning process.
    Thank You

    Hi Richard,
Please visit the below site, you will user guid for forms6.0

  • Installing Forms 6i with 8i

I have installed Oracle 8i on my computer and it works great. Including the sample database. I would also like to install Forms 6i on my computer but whe I try it, I can't get it to connect to the sample database. In fact, after 6i is installed, if I click on the SQL plus icon for 8i I get a message saying it can't be found. Nothing I try seems to work. Does anyone know the proper way to install Forms 6i and get it to connect to the 8i sample database? Thank you for any help you can give.

I have successfully installed Oracle Server 8i and Forms 6i and Reports 6i on my PC running on Windows 2000. I have done the same on another PC running on Windows 98.
On a PC with Windows 2000 or NT, you must install the Forms 6i first. (For a PC with Windows 98, install Oracle 8i first, then the Forms). Make sure your registry does not have records of prior installations of Oracle. If the Oracle database is mounted and started, you cannot delete Oracle related entries in the registry. You must stop Oracle database first, then clean your registry.
After installing the Forms and/or Reports, install Oracle Server 8i in a different HOME and directory.
You will be guided accordingly during the installation.
Then follow Joseph Schwertner's advice on how to edit your tnsnames.ora in your client side.
With Windows 2000 you do not have to manually start the listener and the database. But with Windows 98, you have to before your client can connect to the database.
e-mail me if you want more details.

  • Deployment of objects in OWB10g with Personal Edition Database

When trying to deploy objects in a Personal Oracle 10g database with OWB10g, the following error occurs:
RPE-01011: Cannot deploy to target database location because it does not have a compatible version.
Deployment on the same database but on Enterprise Edition works fine.
Oracle does not support OWB on Personal Edition, but I found a workaround to use OWB on a Personal Edition database. The problem is that the Deployment Manager checks for the version number from PRODUCT_COMPONENT_VERSION where PRODUCT like 'Oracle%'. It returns the version number, but with this query no rows are returned in Personal Edition because the product name does not begin with 'Oracle' (Personal Oracle Database 10g).
I found a workaround in redefining the definition of the view SYS.PRODUCT_COMPONENT_VERSION so that it returns 'Oracle Database 10g Personal Edition' for the database component. The deployment manager will then find the correct number, and you can deploy just as you would with Enterprise Edition.
Statement used to redefine the view:
create or replace view sys.product_component_version as
    (select
    substr(banner,1, instr(banner,'Version')-1) product,
    substr(banner, instr(banner,'Version')+8,
    instr(banner,' - ')-(instr(banner,'Version')+8)) version,
    substr(banner,instr(banner,' - ')+3) status
    from v$version
    where instr(banner,'Version') > 0
    and
    ((instr(banner,'Version') < instr(banner,'Release')) or
    instr(banner,'Release') = 0))
    union
    (select
    substr(banner,1, instr(banner,'Release')-1),
    substr(banner, instr(banner,'Release')+8,
    instr(banner,' - ')-(instr(banner,'Release')+8)),
    substr(banner,instr(banner,' - ')+3)
    from v$version
    where instr(banner,'Release') > 0
    and
    instr(banner,'Release') < instr(banner,' - ')
    AND BANNER NOT LIKE '%Database%')
    union
    (select
    'Oracle Database 10g Personal Edition',
    substr(banner, instr(banner,'Release')+8,
    instr(banner,' - ')-(instr(banner,'Release')+8)),
    substr(banner,instr(banner,' - ')+3)
    from v$version
    where instr(banner,'Release') > 0
    and
    instr(banner,'Release') < instr(banner,' - '))

  • Discoverer 3.1.x Install on NT with Personal Oracle 8i

Can Discoverer 3.1.x be installed on a Windows NT machine that already has Personal Oracle 8i (8.1.6) installed on it? If so, how?
The Discoverer Installer posts some contradictory error messages when I try to do this.
First, if I try to install Discoverer to a separate ORACLE_HOME, the Installer tells me that the Installer does not support multiple installations and that Discoverer must be installed in the same ORACLE_HOME as the existing Oracle8i.
But when I rerun the installation trying to use the existing Oracle8i ORACLE_HOME, the Installer tells me that this ORACLE_HOME directory is already being used for "Oracle 816 Production" and that "It cannot be used as an Oracle home for 'nt'".
This is an odd contradiction. IMHO, it seems that Discoverer and Personal Oracle 8i would be a rather natural pairing, and that Oracle Corp would be interesting in having these 2 products be able to co-exist on the same machine.
The Install.wri notes (July99) do indicate that Discoverer 3.1 cannot be installed on the same machine as Personal Oracle 8.0.3 but can be installed alongside 8.0.4. Also, in another posting (http://technet.oracle.com:89/ubb/Forum16/HTML/000117.html) in this Discussion Group, it would appear that Discoverer 3.1 can be installed with Oracle 8i, but how?
(As a footnote: I would definitely prefer to install Discoverer into a separate ORACLE_HOME from the Oracle server.)
Thanks for any clarity on this situation.

    Hello Jerry:
There are two possible ways to deal with this issue:
    1. Install Discoverer into the first (Default) Oracle_Home on your machine.
    2. Install the RDBMS into another ORACLE_HOME.
Discoverer cannot be installed into a non Default Oracle_HOME.
    Also...
In this scenario you can do the following.
In the Oracle Installer you write DEFAULT_HOME in the NAME field and the you enter a directory different from the one Oracle8i is installed in. In many cases this does the trick. But you can get into a scenario where you still gets the errors message. In this case you exit the installer, starts a Dos Prompt and enter regedit, to edit the registry. Here you
    find the key
\\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Oracle\ALL_HOMES\DEFAULT_HOME. You change the value of this key to DEFAULT_HOME and then start the installation again.
    I hope this helps.

  • Trouble installing "Form Builder" with Oracle Developer 6/6i

I get the following "Error Info" message first:
    "path vrf(86): Unbound variable 'path_too_long_prompt'"
    Then the following:
"The Oracle Installer cannot update the system path variable to %new- path% because it is too long. Please restrict your system path to 127 characters and make sure D:\Oracle\ORADEV\bin is included in your path."
Note that the reference to the D:\ drive is correct, but how do I correct this problem with the path variable being too long?
"Form Builder" does not get installed but the "Report Builder" which follows this step in the process installed just fine.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, you can install. Install Oracle 9i DB and D2k on different HOME. Then, configure D2K tnsnames.ora as per 9iDB tnsnames.
it will work, and works fine for me.

Can anyone send me a link or tell me how I can find personal edition?
For learning purpose, Oracle corp allows to all download the Enterprise Edition itself from the Oracle Technology Work. This is a free download which comes with development and sort of patch and/or bug fixes would require to purchase the paid support contract. If you are newbie , you just download the software from
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/indexes/downloads/index.html#database
You can choose whatever edition you want to install from the installation media that you would download. There is no use as such to play with Personal Edition because many features are going to be working only on Enterprise Edition or on Standard Edition only.
Now, that said, if you want to purchase Personal Edition, this can be a very good investment as it would let you use the paid support portal MOS(My Oracle Support) as well. But as mentioned already, its only for Windows.

  • Forms 6i with oracle 8.0.5

Please tell me , can i install Forms 6i with oracle 8.0.5 database ?

As far as I know you can use Forms 6i with a 8.0.5 database.
You will have problems if you try to install this development software in the same Oracle Home as any pre 6i development software.
Tip. Designer 6i repository has to be installed on a 2e edition 8i database(8.1.6). So if you are planning to use Forms6i in conjuction with Designer 6i...
    Just food for thought..

  • Using Oracl8i Personal Edition

    Hi,
I can't find a forum for Personal Edition so I will post my questions here.
I just started to learn Oracle recently. I have used Oracl 8i Lite until I now need to do PL/SQL commands, so I installed Oracle 8i Personal Edition. I before used Oracle8 Navigator to manage my databases (tables,..). Now there is no Navigator with Personal Edition. What can I use to view all of tables I've created?..
I know this is dumb questions but I don't know. Please help.
    Trung.

    Hi,
I am startig to learn Oracle and trying to find a copy of
Oracle 8i Personal Edition. I would like to install it to
Windows XP or Windows 2000. I only found one copy online for
NT or 2000 wich is more than 600MB and would need 33 hours to
download from my home. DO you know,
    1. from where I may find a copy that will run on XP for sure ?
    2. How can I purchase a CD instead of download from online?
    Thanks a lot.

  • Jtds and SQL server 2000(Personal Edition) problem

My application need to work in standalone mode without being connected to the network.
I've installed SQL Server 2000(Personal Edition) on Windows XP platform. I've Tomat 4.1 installed on the same machine. My applciation based on jsps and servlets runs on the same machine.
I'm using the jtds driver and I use the following code to connect to SQL Server.
    Class.forName("net.sourceforge.jtds.jdbc.Driver");
    String str="jdbc:jtds:sqlserver://127.0.0.1/GH;tds=8.0;namedpipe=true;lastupdatecount=true";
It works fine as long as the machine is connected to the network. Once it is unplugged, it gives me the error "ArrayIndexOutofBounds Exception-1".
But my application needs to be run on a machine where there is no network at all. In the above string I tried to change 127.0.0.1 by computer name and removed namedpipe parameter.
    str="jdbc:jtds:sqlserver://mypctds=8.0;lastupdatecount=true";
But it gives the same error. Any idea on this?

Infact SQl server is not listening to 1433 port. When I telnet localhost 1433, it is not connecting. I checked up Server N/w utility and Client N/w utility, both TCP and Named Pipe are enabled. Only if I include namedPipe=true, it works and it requires network connection to be present.
Under Server network utility, if I choose named pipe, the default value shows \\.\pipe\sql\query. I tried to remove \\ so that it doesn't take the network path. But it doesnot work. ANy help?

  • Installing Designer 6 on NT With Oracle8 Personal Edition

According to the Designer 6 For Windows NT installation guide, I can have Personal Oracle 8.0.4 as a local database for use with Designer 6. However I am unable to successfully install these due to:
    1. Designer and the Pre-Configured Repository must reside in the default_home directory.
    2. The Pre-Configured Repository must reside in the same Oracle Home Directory as the local database - therefore Personal Oracle8 must reside in the default_home directory also.
    3. Designer needs the 8.0.5 required support files whereas Oracle8 Personal Edition needs the 8.0.4 required support files to work.
Thus, is my problem. As I can not install both 8.0.4 and 8.0.5 support files into the same Oracle home, how can I get to use Designer 6 with a local 8.0.4 database on NT, as it suggests in the Designer installation guide?

    These are the steps .
    1. First Yout NT server must have Nt ver.4 with Service pack 5 built in
2.All Y have to do is to Installed Web App
Server on Different Physical location(With Oracle 8i) as different NT user with administrative privileges(Different from the user Y installed 8i RDBMS ).
    3. Set TNS_ADMIN parameter for NT Server.
    4.Set up the tnsname.ora and sqlnet.ora file
on web app home ,(ie %ORACLE_HOME%\net80\admin ) as same as those on your Oracle DB HOme ,(ie %ORACLE_HOME%/network/admin )
After this if You follow the installation guide ,Post installation task ,
    Every thing will work..

I have attempted to burn it onto a CD_Rom and install through the control panel and the same occurs.
I am not sure what is causing this problem. Is there any why I could request the software in a CD as opposed to a zip file? What could be causing this problem? Is the machine a P4? there is a known problem
I don't know about his machine, but mine is a P4. Where do I find this information about this problem? And is there a fix? I need to install the NET8 Assistant.

  • Can't install Oracle 8.1.7 Personal Edition on Windows ME

I am trying to install "Oracle 8.1.7 Personal Edition for Windows 98" on Windows ME. I can't install it. During the install on the Oracle Universal Intaller, on the part where it asks for the Source and Destination, after I click "Next" to install, it gives me a error message: "Invalid staging area. There are no top level components for Windows 95 available for install from this staging area". So I can't proceed with the installation.
    The computer I am using is a Pentium 3, 700mhz, 128mb Ram.
On my other computer, it is a Dell Dimension Pentium 4, 1.3 GHz, 128mb ram. When I attempt to install it, while running the D:\setup.exe, before it even loads the install program, it gives me the error message: "Jrew has caused an error in JAVAI.DLL. Jrew will now close. If you continue to experience problems, try restarting your computer". Restarting my computer does not solve the problem.
Can anyone help me out, I really would appreciate it. Thank you.

There is supposedly a fix for this 'stage error' but I tried one of them and it doesn't work. What i have found is that you either create a dual boot Win ME/(98 or 2000 pro) or dump ME as I did and run 98 or 2000 instead. It is painful but unfortunately, seeming necessary. I made it a bit less painful by using Symantec Works to back up all of my other loaded APPS (and Registry entries) Most reloaded to 98 even though they were running in ME.
    Good luck.

  • Install Oracle 8i (8.1.7.0.0) Personal Edition on Windows 98 (Second Edition)

    Hello,
I am unable to install Oracle 8i Personal Edition on my Windows 98 (Second Edition) system. I have selected "typical" install. All the files get installed (100% complete) but then the Configuration Tool install phase fails to complete when installing Oracle Database Configuration Assistant. I get the following error message :
    java.lang.NullpointerException
    at DropOracle.QueryDB(Compiled Code)
    at DeletePanel.InitControls(Compiled Code)
    at DeletePanel.<init>(DeletePanel.java:100)
    at DBCreateWizard.<init>(DBCReateWizard.java:569)
    at DBCreateWizard.main(DBCreateWizard.java:1422)
The system just hangs with the "in progress" message.
    The previous step -
The Net8 Configuration Assistant install completes successfully
    (return code 0).
If anyone can help me resolve my problem it will be greatly appreciated.
Or if you could tell me which Oracle email address (or phone number) I should address my problem to it will be appreciated. I do NOT have a Oracle Support Licence (I only purchased the evaluation CD pack).
I have installed Java 2 (JDK 1.3) in a separate directory - but I understand Oracle 8i has its own version of JRE 1.1... in its own subdirectory structure ... so my JDK 1.3 should not be interfering with the Oracle 8i installation programs.
    Many thanks in advance.

    Hi,
My actual requirement is to move the catalog database(8i) which is running on one windows server 2003 to another windows server 2003.
    catalog db :8.1.7.4.0 (crman)
and we have different target databases(8i, 9i and 10g) which is using the above db as catalog db.
    Here is an example:
old server name : yyyyy :
    new server name : zzzzz
Under Old server we have the following oracle homes
    ORACLE_HOME - 8.1.7 - which is created under the user "ora817"
    ORACLE_HOME - 9.2.0.7 - which is created under the user "ora920"
and the catalog database name : CRMAN which is a 8i database but for backups it is using 9i rman executables.(because in the script for rman backup they are setting the 9i home and backing up the data's)
I need to move the same setting to the new server. I dont know how I will proceed on this. I'm in a confused state. If anyone have the same experience
    please share your ideas.
    Thanks, Muhammed.
