Installing games and adding items needing sync function mannually

I hate the sync function on iTunes because I don't store half of my items on my computer and am always moving things around and manually editing id3 tags in iTunes and Syncing deletes things and returns the tags to what they are on the file itself. I want to purchase games from Itunes but add them manually. Can you manually add anything to your ipod and if so how?

I updated to 17.0 and in the middle of my games, it closes the game and says I need to upgrade to 17.1 and have a antivirus too. You can reinstall them from Recovery Manager by clicking on Start=> All Programs.
If you have performed a complete HP Recovery using F11 then all the software should be there. If you have performed a minimized recovery then you can install applications from recovery manager...If none of these works then you'll need USB recovery..

Uninstalled IE with flash player, installed firefox and added flash player - doesn't work!

I have just used Revo Uninstaller Pro to remove IE 9 (I think ... it's the standard built in IE taht comes with my Win7 Home Premium 64 bit OS). I had flash player installed in IE. Upon uninstalling all flash components from my computer using Revo, I did an "advanced" search to find all leftover registry entries and files/folders associated with Flash. While doing this, Revo had warned me of some files that "have recently been added" (I believe since initial installation of Flash), and gave me the option of deleting these one at a time. I cannot remember what these files included, but looking at a posting from another person, i seem to recognize some files that I *may* have deleted while removing with Revo:

Flash10e.ocx
FlashUtil10e.exe
GetFlash.man
install.log
swflash.inf
uninstall_activeX.exe
(again, I have no idea if ANY of the above were the actual ones I deleted, but I seem to remember seeing a couple of these at least listed to me as options to delete)
I proceeded to remove ALL files from my computer.
Then, upon installing Firefox and, subsequently installing flash on it, I noticed that some flash websites load and work properly, whereas other ones don't. I also been to the adobe confirmation page stating taht I have successfully installed and am running Adobe Flash player. Is this simply a case of missing one key component in flash?
Before the entire uninstall mission I did, I remember revo as listing more than 1 Flash programs installed. I believe I had seen two flash 11 programs installed in Revo, which I thought were just simply duplicate installations. I vaguely remember one of them being listed as Flash player 11 and the other as Flash player 11 activex? (both were removed off my system).
Are these files different and did I, in fact, need both of these installed?
Anyway, I have no idea where to go from here. Help please!

What's the reason behind adding ':'|| and ||':' to items in INSTR function?

I noticed in examples that when the INSTR function is used items and the search strings are preceeded/followed by ':'|| and ||':' and I was just wondering why this is so. Does this not just add a : to the start and finish of the item and string? Is there an advantage over just coding it like so:
instr(upper(OBJECT_ID), upper(:P18_OBJECT_ID)) > 0)
rather than
instr(':'||:P18_STATUS||':',':'||STATUS||':') > 0

I don't know about the instr vs. like question. For the other question, I've seen this used mostly for checking for the presence of a token within a colon-delimited string of values. Consider:

I had iCloud on my Microsoft Office 2010 and tried to increase the font size - I read to unistall and reinstall, so I did. This took iCloud away from Calendars and Contacts. I re-installed iCloud and it will not sync with my Calendars

I had iCloud installed, and it was working, then I wanted to increase font size in the notes section of Calendar. I read to uninstall iCloud and reinstall iCloud and it would be fixed.
Once I reinstalled iCloud it did not show up in Microsoft Office 2010 - Calendar or Contacts.........which it had previous to the uninstall.
When I sync it errors. I am at my wits end trying to sync this, and it just keeps erroring. I am not syncing phots/photo stream, just contacts and calendar.
Please can anyone tell me what setting I have to change??

Needed to add some clarification here:
iCloud shows me as signed in, but Calendars are NOT checked

I have got IMAP/SMTP set up on Outlook but having trouble syncing my inbox sub folders that I set up online with BT Mail - these are not showing in outlook. Also items sent from BT Mail not appearing in outlook (just the ones sent from outlook). Any solutions?

Thanks for posting. If you set these folders up within POP the recommendation is that they are set up again on webmail before transferring over to the IMAP. You may need to set this up again to ensure everything syncs up.

Customised and added software need restoration! HELP!!!!

I have on my iMac two Hard-drives...internal and external and upgraded memory.
My iMac is behaving as if it has a mind of it's own. On turning it on, all added and customised software eg. Outlook Express, Quark Express, Adobe etc. cannot be found in my Apple Menu Items where aliases were kept. They however show as being present in my Sherlock Find. They just can't be used as they were customised to be. If I try to access them via Sherlock, they ask to be reinstalled. My settings just seem to have gone into hiding somewhere or beserk and I can't afford reinstalling as my addressbook will be emptied and favourites will be deleted for a start. Not to mention the possibility of further of new software and special effects as what had happened when I added the other hard-drive. I can't even get access to my added desktop photo anymore nor address book, but Sherlock indicates they are there somehow. I am scared so please advise me how I may get everything reverted to my customised setting. I took a chance and used the Internet Explorer so I could contact forums in the US for help.PLEASE GUIDE ME!

Is it possible you have an operating system (OS) installed on both drives, and have accidenatlly booted to the one that is not your usual boot volume?
To change the drive/OS you are booted to, use the Startup Disk control panel to select the one you wish to switch to, then restart.
Depending on the age and model of your iMac, you may also be able to use Startup Manager at boot to pick the volume from which to boot.

I have recently had to install itunes and it won't sync with my iphone 4s even though I have signed in to my apple id, how can I fix this?

My laptop needed wiping and rebuilding. I built it up and re downloaded itunes. However it will not sync with my iphone. I have re logged into my apple id on the itunes but still no sync is happening. I don't want to erase all of the songs on my iphone as I have a fair few albums. It is not devices, it is computers only. You can have up to 5 computers authorized with the same iTunes account.
The computer you are using is not activated with your iTunes account with iTunes? If not, is a computer available that is activated with your iTunes account? You can deactivate all computers from one computer that is activated following by activating the computer you are using now.

Games and purchases won't sync after upgrade to itunes 8.1.1.10

I've just upgraded to itunes 8.1.1.10 (because itunes asked it when I started it up), but since then it has been behaving rather strangely.
First, itunes claims my computer is no longer autorised. However, when I try to re-autorise him, I just recieve a message saying it is already.
When I synced my ipod, all my purchased songs and games disappeared from it (I guess because itunes somehow still thinks the pc isn't autorised).
I tried to re-sync the games, but now he's started to optimalise my 8000 photos, but the games refuse to sync.
Does anyone have an idea on how to solve this? tia

When you look at the capacity bar at the bottom of iTunes when the iPad is connected to your computer, the iPad is selected and iTunes is running, what does the storage for "other" read? How much of "other" data is there?
Have you tried ejecting the iPad, quitting iTunes, reboot the computer and reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time until the Apple logo appears on the screen, then try again?
You could also try updating iTunes. It looks like you are running an older version.

Have you got notifications muted ? Only notifications (including games) get muted, so the Music and Videos apps, and headphones, still get sound.
Depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (mute or rotation lock), then you can mute notifications by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar. If you lose sounds for keyboard clicks, games or other apps, email notifications and other notifications, system sounds may have been muted.
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the task bar. Double tap the home button and in the task bar at the bottom, swipe all the way to the right. The speaker icon is all the way to the left. Tap on it and system sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock rotation can be accessed via the task bar in the same manner as described above.

Firefix claims an update is available, and so I click to get it installed (I am running 5.0). I get a message that the install failed and that I need to make sure no other copies of FF are running on my computer. ??

The bigger issue is that it tries to run the update every time I click on a URL (like from an email). And so it opens a window to locate a browser, then starts the update - which then crashes with the message about making sure no other copies of FF are running.

You start the same version, only some features are disable like add-ons (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions).
