Installing Gimpshop on snow leapoard

hi on a mac book pro intel core running snow leopard 10.6.6. Tried installing Gimpshop. Followed instructions and fired up X11 etc, but when I double click the Gimpshop icon, nothing happens. DFid a bit of research and discovered some library elements (fontconfig and iconv) need to be replaced. Trouble is I can't find these elements so can't replace them.I'm probably being stupid but can anyone talk me through how to do this in nice easy non techy language pls

I found your question here after searching for answers myself about the same thing. After a lot of struggle trying to install Gimpshop on Snow Leopard I finally figured this out. The library files you're looking for are located here: Option-click on the Gimpshop app to 'Show Package Contents'. Then go to Contents/Resources/lib - that's where the files should be installed/replaced. I'm assuming you got your library files from this post: "http://www.strayprocess.com/blog/gimpshop-snow-leopard"
The problem is that post was from 2009, and X11 has been updated since then. So the files that need to be replaced aren't named exactly the same thing. In the folder you will find aliases for "libfontconfig.1.dylib" and "libiconv.2.dylib". I'm not sure why aliases are used because the files they point to are in the same folder (oh well...). If you click 'Get Info' on these shortcuts, you will find they point to "libfontconfig.1.0.4.dylib" and "libiconv.2.3.0.dylib" respectively. Here's the best way to do this:
1) delete "libfontconfig.1.0.4.dylib" and "libiconv.2.3.0.dylib" from the lib folder
2) delete also the aliases "libfontconfig.1.dylib" and "libiconv.2.dylib"
3) add the two modified library files you downloaded "libfontconfig.1.dylib" and "libiconv.2.dylib"
Everything should work now - at least it does for me. Hope that helps!

Mac OS X 10.6 includes QuickTime versions 10.0 and 7.6.3. The QuickTime 7 player will only be present if a QuickTime Pro key was present at the time of installation, or if specified as part of a custom install, or individually downloaded:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/dl923
Snow Leopard update 10.6.4 included an update to 7.6.6 (if installed). You can install it from the above link  even though it says for 10.6.3. It's the same version of QuickTime Player 7.6.6.
(Only QuickTime Player 7.6.3 or 7.6.6 can be updated to "Pro".)

Often, you have to download updated vendor software drivers when you switch operating systems. HP doesn't list a C5500 on their web site, however, here's the link to the OS X 10.6 C5540 software.  If you have one of the other C55xx models, look for the updated driver/scan software on their software/driver download section of HP.Com.

  • Install Disk for Snow Leopard will not boot on an iMac 27in

My Install Disk for Snow Leopard will not boot on my iMac 27in. The Apple Logo is the only thing the user will see. The current OS on the system is 10.6.6. Upon placing the Snow Leopard DVD in the system, the DVD players spins for a few seconds and displays the Apple Logo. Nothing happens after 20 minutes.

Yes, it is ridiculous how it is impossible to install Snow Leopard. I have two Snow Leopard DVDs: one that I purchased for a Macbook soon after it's release (10.6.0), and one that came with my iMac (10.6.4). Both of these boot up my Macbook (running 10.6.7) just fine. My SL 10.6.0 DVD mounts onto my iMac (Lion 10.7.0), but you cannot run the install. I attempted to boot from this DVD and got the infinite white screen and Apple logo, as some have reported above. The other SL 10.6.4 DVD will not even mount in Lion, and will not even show up as a bootable drive when I attempt to select it after holding alt/option on reboot.
I created a bootable external drive from SL 10.6.0, attempted boot, same infinite white screen/apple logo.
I created a bootable external drive from SL 10.6.4 on my macbook. I attempted to boot from this drive, and got the white screen of death, except that this time I actually got the loading symbol underneath the Apple logo. After about a minute of attempting to boot, the Apple logo changed to a circle with a diagonal line through it (the "NO!" sign).
I took my iMac to the genius bar. They inserted SL 10.6.0, which would not boot. Then they determined that my computer had to run 10.6.4 and later. So, they restored an image of SL 10.6.4 onto my partition (not an install from an image, but an image of SL already installed). Hurray! Snow Leopard was successfully shoved onto my iMac!
I then deleted a third partition on my hard drive I did not need anymore, which somehow screwed up my SL partition (even though it said "Will not erase partition SL or Macintosh HD). Now I am back at square one, and I guess I need to take my flippin iMac back to Apple for them to do what I should be able to do.
I like Apple, but sheesh do I hate Lion right now.

i upgraded to snow leopard but iphoto was not included. How do I install iphoto on snow leopard 10.6.8?

IPhoto is not included in any OS upgrade. It is a seperate application. Unless you choose to erase your drive when you upgrade no application including iPhoto is affected by the upgrade (except potential compatibility issues). If you need to reinstall iPhoto for and reason you do it from the original source. Either
1- the restore disks that came with your computer
    Or
2- the iLife DVD upgrade that you purchased
    Or
    3- the App store

Just installed mac osx snow leopard upgade and connected my printer too, and realized I have lost sound!   Can anyone help?

In case I misunderstood, did you mean that the 10.6.3 version of Snow Leopard was the upgrade?  If so you need to update via 10.6.6 to 10.6.8.  These updates can correct minor system upsets.
And ... did you also repair permissions both before and after you upgraded.   You should do this when you progress via 10.6.6 to 10.6.8 too.

  • Is there a way to install OS X Snow Leopard on the 2014 MacBook Pro Retina?

I have a 2014 MacBook Pro Retina that I purchased a few months ago. Is there a way to install OS X Snow Leopard on it? I do not have a DVD drive and do not own OS X Snow Leopard discs. I do have a retail copy .dmg file of it though. Can I copy it over to a USB flash drive and install it on a partition of my hard drive? How do I do that, if it's possible? Can you list the steps? I would appreciate it!
    Thanks!
    P.S. Please don't ask why.

Presumably, you want Snow Leopard in order to be able to run PowerPC applications.  If so, more information can be found here:
