Installing GPU Quadro 4000 on m9540ch HP pavilion Desktop..Worried about power specification

Hi,
I want to install a nvidia quadro 4000 graphic card on Hp pavilion m9540ch desktop PC. I open the desktop chassis and I found that there is no 6 pin auxiliary power connector coming out from the power supply. I am going to buy this connector "Dual 4Pin Molex-8Pin PCI-E Adapter" to supply power to Quadro 4000 GPU. Now, I am wondering whether my power supply (300 W) can support GPU (80W). My question is, how can I observe or know the average power consumption of my Hp pavilion m 9540ch PC? Is there any document that can explain the total power consumption of this PC or is there any utility to monitor the total power consumption on windows 7?
Many thanks in advance for your suggestions and comments.

Hi,
Your posted model number doesn't seem to work on the HP servers.
Please post the HP product number for your PC. How to Find the HP Model Number and the HP Product Number or let HP automatically find your PC model number and HP network attached printers.
The m9540 has the Neptune chassis so the Corsair CX600 should be a perfect fit.

  • Installing NVIDIA Quadro 4000 Questions

Sorry for the obviously silly questions
I have searched around and could not find an installation guide anywhere...
I am trying to install my new Quadro 4000 Card to speed up Premiere Pro CS5. Do I need to connect the power cable that came with the video card somewhere in The MAC Pro to get the card to display video ? Does the existing display port support an older Cinema Display, vintage 2008, or do I need to use the adapter that came with the package to light up the display ?

    Yes.

You will need either single link or dual-link DVI adapter probably.
The install guide is right there on Nvidia.
And all the details that I posted a couple days ago on Feb 6th (Sunday):
FYI for Quadro 4000 Mac Owners upgrading to 10.6.6:
To save you a lot of clicks (the doc links to the nvidia product page) - here's the page with the current (as of this AM) Quadro OS X 10.6.5 Driver page shows the 11/16/2010 driver date/v256.01.00f03. But the file downloaded is "Retail_256.01.00f03v5.dmg" (28.9MB) - dated Dec 17th.

Reinstall the 10.6.6 combo update manually is sometimes a good idea (some of us use only combo updates when it comes time to update OS X).
    Here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1349
    From Nvidia:
Mac OS X Software Version Upgrade
Make sure your Mac Pro software version is 10.6.5 or greater. It is important that you check this first before you install the Quadro 4000 for Mac graphics board.
If your system OS X is not at 10.6.5 or later, you need to upgrade.
    10.6.6: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1349
Use the following procedure to get your system OS upgraded to 10.6.5.
    1. Click on the Apple icon in the upper left corner of the screen and select Software Update...
    2. Continue to install software updates until your system OS is reported to be 10.6.5 or later.
    Mac Driver Upgrade
You will also need to install a driver package to be able to run your Quadro 4000 for Mac.
The driver package is included in the CD that ships with your product. Please follow the installation guide for further instructions. It is also available for download at the nvidia.com driver here.
Important: Both the Mac OS X Software version upgrade and the Mac driver upgrade must be completed before installing hardware.
Please note that the downloaded file will be a single file that includes both the graphics driver and the CUDA driver.

  • How to Install Nvidia Quadro 4000 in Dell R710

    Hi All,
I have read a lot about installing the Nvidia Quadro PCIe x16 card in a Dell R710.  I know what parts I need to order (Dell GP347 PCI-e Left Riser), but I do not know how to install the 6 pin power cable required by the Nvidia card.  Where would I connect it to the Dell R710 motherboard?  Is there a place to connect it?  If not, is there some type of power supply I can hook the 6 pin Nvidia Power cable and provide power outside of the server?  Any help would be appreciated.

This is a bit old now, but thought I would reply as I got this working and very happy with the performance!
In addition to the riser board I needed, there is NO way to provide the power the card needs without an EXTERNAL power supply.  There is a really small box listed on Newegg called "ePOWER EP-450CD 450W ATX12V/EPS12V Modular Juice Box-Dedicated Graphics Card and CPU Power supply".  Buy it and run the GPU power cable from an empty PCI slot out the back of the Dell Server.
I also purchased NVidia Quadro 4000 2 GB GDDR5 PCIe video cards for each of my ESXi 5.5 servers. Also, I left my built-in video graphic card enabled and it is still primary for my Hypervisor.
Download and install the NVidia ESXi drivers from their website and follow the directions to install them.  Reboot.
I use sVGA with my Horizon Desktops and downloaded a trial version of Sketch-Up to test 3D.  They have a community of users who post 3D renderings and you can download one directly from the Sketch-up Program.  Cruise around and check the performance.
As a side note, I noticed IE worked way worse by using the GPU when Browsing the internet.  Go to Advanced Settings in IE, and the top option states "Use software rendering instead of GPU".  Making that change makes IE work as expected.

  • Expansion Slot Fan running at high speed after installing NVIDIA Quadro 4000

I've noticed that after installing the new NVIDIA Quadro 4000 for Mac on my Mac Pro with Mac OS X 10.6.7 with the newly released NVIDIA drivers (03/22/2011) the Expansion Slot Fan is running at a VERY HIGH speed (between 1,200rpm and 2,100rpm), if I go back the the NVIDIA GT120 everything will be normal with the Fan speed (around 800rpm), does enybody have experienced the same issue ?, thanks

Sorry, that I can’t really offer much help...
Did you install the latest “standalone” driver update...?
Should be currently: GPU  “256.01.00f03v7”... CUDA “4.0.14".
The driver has to be present before the card is installed...
Check your latest Mac Pro EFI Firmware update... should be version 1.4.
Run a general maintenance utility like, OnyX, Cocktail, TechTool Pro, Disk Warrior etc.
    Restart your system...

  • OT: Quadro 4000 for Mac

Sorry for the OT, but I bet somebody here can answer this for me.
Since I recently installed the Quadro 4000 in my MacPro3,1, and upgraded to OS 10.6.8 to use CUDA in Pr, I've noticed that the Brightness button on my 30" Apple Cinema Display doesn't work any more.  Also, the Displays Preference Brightness slider doesn't do anything any more either.
Is this a side effect of the Quadro card?
I really need to turn down the ACD brightness at certain times, because it's way bright.
    TIA,

I've never used the Apple Cine Displays given their silly prices, but: How are you connecting the Quadro up?  Are you using the DisplayPort on the card, since you're driving a massive panel?  Does the Cine have a DVI port on the back of it that you can experiment with?  Generally when controls on a monitor go unresponsive it's because of the input type.

  • Missing GPU Acceleration With NVIDIA Quadro 4000

    Hi -
I have a PC running Windows 7 with an NVIDIA Quadro 4000 card and 16GB of RAM. I have both Premiere Pro CS6 v6.0.5 and Premiere Pro CC v7.2.2 (just installed).
When I create a new project in CC, my only option under Video Rendering and Playback is Mercury Playback Engine Software Only. However, when I open a project in CS6, I get that option and also Mercury Playback Engine GPU Accelerated (CUDA).
Any thoughts on why the GPU option would not be available to me in CC?
    Ed

    Hi Mesmer3001,
I will suggest you to do a clean uninstall of all NVidia drivers and then re-install the latest one from the NVidia website. So, please follow the steps mentioned below.
Go to Device manager, right click on the graphivs card and select update driver software.
Select Browse my computer for driver software option.
Then on next screen choose Let me pick from a list option
Choose standard VGA graphics adapter which will choose VGA mode for your machine.
Then go to Control Panel and uninstall all the NVidia drivers. Restart the machine once it is done. Then go to the below link and re-install the Drivers again.
Hope it helps and please update if you need further assistance.

  • New GPU Quadro k5200 installed and having problem with my AE, PPro CS6  not using the GPUs cuda.

Hi guys, I recently bought a workstation from BOXX tech with a new GPU Quadro k5200 installed in it.
I am having problem with my AE, PPro CS6 using the GPUs cuda.
I went to Nvidia Settings and use the specific App to select it to use GPU n- Quadro k5200. But still not working.
    Please help

If you edited the Cudatextfile in the Adobe Premiere CS6 directory correctly then the acceleration should be enabled. The only way it it's not is if you have the wrong driver for that version of Adobe or did not edit the text file with the exact name of the card. You can use the GPUsniffer in that same Premiere directoy with the command prompt to see the name the GPU should be listed as. The Ray Tracer file in AE has to be edited with the same listing.

  • No GPU acceleration in PPro w/Quadro 4000 using drivers above 4.0.19 on Mac. Any ideas why?

Can someone out there help me figure out why PPro 5.5.2 will not offer GPU acceleration from my Nvidia Quadro 4000 when running any driver higher than 4.0.19? It's the strangest thing, and I'm at my wit's end trying to figure out why I can't update the Nvidia driver without losing GPU acceleration in PPro.

  • Unable to install new driver for Quadro 4000

    Hello
downloaded the new version 304.00.05f05 for quadro 4000. unable to install the new driver for NVIDIA Quadro 4000.
By clicking on the DMG I get a message "high-os-title high-os-message superimposed on the installer window

    Please help

Try downloading the update again. Perhaps the one you have got corrupted during the download process.
You can install updates in the Safe Mode and it should eliminate the possibility of other software interfering with the update process.
Shut down the computer and then power it back up. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem.

  • Just installed Quadro 4000 Mac, now Premiere crashes when I try to open existing project

    Mac Pro 4,1
    Premiere Pro 5.5
    OS X 10.6.8
I just replaced the stock ATI card with a PNY Quadro 4000 for Mac.
Via CUDA Preferences, have updated CUDA driver to 4.0.50
    GPU driver is 1.6.37.0 (256.02.25f01)
When I try to open any existing Premiere project, Premiere crashes.
This happens whether I'm running the OS X 32-bit kernel or the 64-bit kernel.
If I launch Premiere and create a new project, Premiere seems to run OK. (I haven't yet tried adding any content or working with the content.)
As you can imagine, the only reason I shelled out for the CUDA-capable card was to take advantage of the hardware acceleration in Mercury. So ... not a very satisfying "upgrade" so far.
    Any clues?

There are four sequences in all. Two are super-simple, with only one clip in each. A third has only a single clip plus four titles. The main sequence has multiple clips, two stills and three titles plus one extra audio track.
When the crash occurs, there's no error dialog box. What I see is this:
After I double-click the project file -- or open Premiere and choose the project from the splash screen -- the "loading" progress bar appears and seems to complete loading.
Premiere starts to draw the window for its workspace. It creates a solid white rectangle, the wristwatch "wait" icon appears briefly, then Premiere crashes.
The log captured by the Apple and Adobe crash reporters shows (among much else):

  • New GPU Issues (Geforce GTX 780ti vs Quadro 4000)

    Hey all,
I recently changes from a Quadro 4000 1gb card to a GTX 780ti 3gb card and am noticing a drop in performance.
Playback is slower and a lot more choppy.
    Rendering is about 50% slower.
Is this normal? Shouldn't I be getting a much better performance?
I've checked everything I can think of. Premiere is reading this GPU and using it.
This happens in CS6 and CC.

The top one is with MB on and the bottom one is with it off. It rendered in under 5 minutes without the plugin on. With the plugin on it was sitting at around 36 minutes remaining and was climbing up instead of down.
The CPU seems to be working a lot hard without the grades on? Strange.

  • Have you noticed high fan RPMs after installing Quadro 4000 ?

Just after I installed my new Nvidia Quadro 4000 for Mac I noticed that the fans are running at a much higher speed, everything else is working fine though, has anybody else noticed something like this ?, thanks

    Yes it has been reported.
We have some threads over the last months, and on MacRumors.
Do you have ATI 5770 in there also?
I would use SmcFanControl 2.2.2 and boost the fans to get moe air flowing to begin and prevent heat buildup.

  • Power available for GPU/graphics card/Quadro 4000

I need to upgrade to a Quadro 4000 GPU in order to use DaVinci Resolve on my Mac Pro.  DaVinci needs to graphics cards for full operation: the Quadro to process video and another card to actually run the displays (an Apple 30" Cinema Display and a 21" DVI monitor).
Any of the decently powerful cards I'm looking at require power from the mainboard -- which has two power outlets.  The Quadro 4000 requires both of them.
Is there another power source available somewhere inside the computer to run this second graphics card?  Or perhaps someone can suggest a good solid graphics card to run the two displays that does not require power?

And your Mac running OS X will not accept the Quadro 4000.

Same card on Amazon for $790 with MacPro3,1 or later
    http://www.amazon.com/PNY-DisplayPort-Profesional-Graphics-VCQ4000MAC-PB/dp/B004 CRS78O/
There are some helpful comments there like this one:
i work in 3D visual effects, post production, and graphics.
this video card works fantastic under Windows 7. the Windows drivers for the Quadro are finely tuned and allow particular applications to take full advantage of the video card.
under OS X, the card is NOT worth the premium cost. my ATI 5870 performs better in applications that the Quadro 4000 is suppose to work better with. for the life of me, i can't understand why Nvidia/Apple can't get these drivers right under OS X. its the same story, Quadro release after Quadro release. Nvidia and Apple just don't seem to care. my current 2010 12-core Mac Pro might be my very last Apple desktop. i just can't justify the Apple tax anymore if Apple isn't going to provide basic stuff professionals need. it just seems like Apple is drifting farther and farther away from the professional market.....so disappointing.
another extremely annoying thing is that i can't have my ATI 5870 and Quadro 4000 running at the same time. the Mac Pro only has two 6-pin power cables!!!! what's with that!! are you kidding me??!!
So you need to look at a new Mac. Or running Windows. Or... something.
2008 brought with it EFI64 / UEFI which is what you would need right now. Had you waited back when you did buy your Mac Pro until March 2008.... you would really have been set as far as usiing Quadro or GTX 285 and having 64-bit EFI.  I just think this is another of those times.
Not everyone is ready to and running Lion, but Lion does have some support for the GTX 580, which is more power.

Why wait? Ivy Bridge from Intel in April will and has to arrive someday on Apple's desktop.
the GTX 680 arrives on 23rd, and AMD has their new line of GPUs, so something there.
Your GTX 285 no matter what, unless the seller isn't what he/you say they are, should work in Windows, Mac OR PC. I've used GTX 260 in my Mac Pro and in a PC with X58.
Vendors are coming out with Thunder storage arrays more so now, more for laptops and other systems, but there and using optical.
Given your needs etc I would find someone that wants your system and PowerPC etc and part with it. If you can't wait, or don't want "1.0" and want solid mature and known hardware, pick up one (you could even get the $2100 2.8 4-core ref'd model and do the W3680  6-core 3.33GHz  $599 yourself.
www.macperformanceguide.com has a number of tips. The guy is now running 100% SSDs with a pair of PCIe controllers populated with 1TB SSD modules on each, and 48GB RAM. 2010 lets you use 3 x 8 or 16GB RAM also.

  • Install PNY or HP Quadro 4000 in Thinkstation C30?

    Hi,
i would like to replace my Quadro 600 in my Thinkstation C30 to Quadro 4000, i am looking for online purchase.
there is some other manufacture like PNY and HP have the same card as lenovo but with a lower price, the question is does C30 will Support Quadro 4000 BY PNY or HP without any problems or performance issues ?
i wish that you help me before i purchase
    Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

As you will see just about every thread referencing GeForce cards, the first answer is that it's not technically supported in workstations.  This is an Nvidia statement as much as it is a Lenovo statement.  That being said, many have had little trouble in getting a GeForce card to work in our systems.
The GTX Titan you describe appears to be a 300W card.  This falls outside of the range of what the C30 was designed to support.  You might get lucky in that the rest of your config allows for enough spare power that it doesn't cause any issues, but there's a decent chance of a 12V rail over-current condition with a 300W card in C30.
The GTX 680 is a 195W TDP card, so as long as you're not using other aux-powered graphics cards in the same system, you should be OK from a power standpoint.

  • Nvidia quadro 4000 for mac and os 10.6.8 on After Effects CS6 (11.0.2) Cuda don't work

    Hi,
We bought an Nvidia Quadro 4000 for Mac for use RayTrace on After Effects CS6 (11.0.2) with our Mac Pro 5.1 on OS 10.6.8.
And the Mac lost the Cuda driver when we restart it.
We use the Nvidia driver 256.02.25f01 for Mac Os 10.6.8 and we made test on different Cuda driver (4.1.25, 4.2.10, 5.0.37 and 5.0.47).
When we install Cuda driver and start directly After Effects 11.0.2 it’s works (after effects see the GPU processor).
But when we restart the Mac and try to launch After Effects, AE doesn’t see GPU processor and ask to install Cuda driver 4.0 or later.
Do you know this problem ?
Do you have a solution ?
    Thanks.
And sorry for my English !

    Hi All,
I'm having the exact same problem on 10.6.8 with a brand new Quadro 4000.  My CUDA preferences are up to date, but After Effects CS6 is not seeing the card.
GPUSniffer gives me some really weird results, which I've included.  Of particular note there is a repeated "just leaking" message, an "invalid drawable" and "Did not find any devices that support GPU computation."
Anyone have a fix for this?  We just dropped a lot of money on this card so I could squeeze some more life out of this workstation (Mac Pro 4,1 dual quad 2.66 with 12GB RAM).
