VMWare Tools Fails to Install - Guest OS Windows 8.1 - vSphere 6.0
Hi,
I am having issues installing VMWare tools on a Windows 8.1 guest. I recently upgraded from ESXi 5.5 to 6 and used the automated upgrade. I logged on to one of my Windows 8.1 VMs and noticed that a glibc error was popping up related to VM Tools so I uninstalled and attempted a reinstall. VMWare tools now does not install.. I believe this is the relevant section of the logs before it rolls back:

Can anyone shed some light on this? I think it has something to do with cscript.exe, when I attempt to run it from a command prompt I get an error that the program or feature cannot start or run due to incompatibility with 64-bit version of windows. cscript located in syswow64 works, is there any way I can force it to use that?
Thanks!OK, got a bit further... forced it to use the cscript.exe executable that actually works but now receiving this error:

How to install guest OS on Oracle VM???
Hello, can anybody teach me how to install the guest OS on the Oracle VM?
currently i installed the Oracle VM server 2.1.5
Then i need to install Windows XP as the guest os on my machine..
So, can any expert teach me step by step to install Linux on Oracle VM server??
the coding is very need!
Thanks alot!!
notes: i need to install XP by using CD
Edited by: user11339612 on Jul 2, 2009 6:07 AMIt would not make much sense to give instructions on every specific OS. Basically, all you do is follow the directions to install a hardware virtualized vm. The OS you choose to install is not important. The steps in creating to VM and pointing it to the install media (windows cd) are important. Once the vm starts up and boots off the windows xm cd, you will complete the install via vnc connection (console)
I installed virt-manager on my utility server to aid in getting on the console of my vm's without having to use the vm manager
~mike~ -
I have insalled VMWare Player 7.1. I click
"Create a new virtual machine."
The "New virtual machine wizard" starts.
I chose "Installer disk"
"Reading disk" spins for around 15 minutes.
It then says "Windows XP Professional detected"
I click "Finish"
A black screen comes on. It says
"Network boot from AMD...............
Operating system not found"
What could be wrong?
ThanksDid you check the Connected and Connect at power on option for the CD-ROM? Second picture from the top: Install a guest operating system manually | VMware Player

Install guest OS Solaris 10 no network connection
Hi,
I tried to install Solaris 10 as guest OS on Oracle VM. During the installation of OS, it bypass the step prompt for network connectivity (yes/no) screen. (I tried many time install and re-install over and over again, but the network connectivity prompt screen never show up.)
I finished the installation anyway, the OS seem working fine. But the problem is I don't know where to enter the network info, and therefore, no network connection.
So, please help.
Thank you,
WeiWindows uses the primary partiton for boot, too, even if you installed it on the NTFS volume in the extended partition. Wherever you install Windows, it will need the primary partition for booting. You can never boot from Windows extended partitions
As for the 15Gb raw partition, it look like what you call 'RAW partition' is actually just a small little part inside the extended partition. All your NTFS partitions (and your RAW partiton) are logical volumes and they all reside inside the extended partition. Even though Windows sees them as separate drives, each with its own drive letter, just as it sees the primary partition.
You may try do use Windows fdisk or diskpart to delete the last logical volume in the extended partition, and then get the ntfs resize tool from Linux, or the CD1 from the Debian Linux install CDs, which has it included and accessible with a nice user interface, and resize your extended partition.
I don't know if it works, I only used it to also resize some logical volume inside the partition. ntfs resize tool might not be easy to work with, you will need to read its documentation, but it does resize NTFS partitions (I have seen it).
If it works, then you will have your 15Gb as unallocated space available for a new partition. Let the Solaris installer create this new partition automatically during install.

Yosemite GM Candidate Installed - Guest account keeps being re-enable after reboot
Have the Yosemite GM Candidate Installed (been using 10.10 beta since about end of July). I've never had this issue prior to the GM Candidate.
I never enable the Guest account on the system (force login for a user, etc.). I disable the Guest account, reboot, and the Guest account is re-enabled and can be logged into. Disable it again, reboot - it's back.
Potential fix anyone is aware of?We are not allowed to discuss beta software here; please refer to the FAQ and terms you agreed to (confidentiality clause). You will need to contact Apple and/or file feedback.

Thanks for any help in advance....
Here's the scenario. I have a new Dell PE R630. 2012 Standard R2, fresh install. All drivers and updates are installed. When booting a newly created VM from an ISO of 2012 R2 Standard, attempting to install the OS on the VM,
I get the blue screen of "Your PC has run into a problem" screen. It just loops over and over again.
I've tried Generation 1 VM and Generation 2 VM. I've disabled Secure Boot in "Bios" on the Generation 2 VM. I've tried different ISO files. I've tried disabling all integration services. I've tried just about every single
settings change there is to try with the same result.
In the Bios of the hardware R630, I checked that Virtualization is enabled. I looked for any other settings that could be off, but don't see anything out of the ordinary.
I don't know what else to try. Thanks to anyone with input.
-JoshHi Sir,
I would suggest you to :
1. check if there is any power saving mode was enabled on R630 BIOS .
2. check hyper-v host "Power Options" selected "High performance" .
3. please try to disable " NUMA spanning " in hyper-v settings .
Then install OS for VM again .
In addition , please check hyper-v host's event log to see if there's any error recorded :
"event viewer / applications and services logs / microsoft /windows / hyper-v* "

So, just boot from the mirror or a local copy of those files.Hi... what you means by boot it from mirror ??
because, From wizard, when i select pxe and i need to give it a path..
i gave path like : http://internalserver/iso/debian
now if i do like this http://internalserver/iso/centos
it works fine because centos has xen image ..
but debian fails because , by default debian does not have xen image..so i need to tell it ...
now you said that, to use the mirror ...
in the earlier post you said, you use like this
kernel main/installer-amd64/current/images/netboot/xen/vmlinuz ramdisk main/installer-amd64/current/images/netboot/xen/initrd.gz http://mirror.isp.com/pub/debian/dists/squeeze/
now i believed that this parameter you providing is from xen command line .. is nto it ??
but from pxe wiill i be able to use this parameter ??
or some how i need to edit the debian insaller and tell it to boot by using xen image like centos ??

Installing ArchLinx+Guest Additions in Virtual Box(error during guest)
The Arch Linux install seemed to go through smoothly. I installed it using the wiki page, rebooted, and logged in as root. I am installing this for a class, so trying to follow the instructions to do so. Next, we are supposed to install 'Guest Additions' for Virtual box using the instructions below:
Now, you should install "Guest Additions" for VirtualBox. Guest additions allows you to share files between host and guest systems. This is very convenient for development as you will need to copy files back and forth between the host and guest operating systems. You can download Guest Additions at *link*.
You need to start the virtual machine before you can continue installing Guest Additions. To do that, just select your VM name from the list on the left hand side in VirtualBox and click Start. After logging into Arch Linux, you should mount this ISO image just as you had mounted the Arch Linux ISO file. You can then mount the cdrom inside the Guest OS by doing:
mkdir /mnt/cdrom
mount -t iso9660 /dev/cdrom0 /mnt/cdrom
Now install the guest additions by doing:
cd /mnt/cdrom
sh ./VBoxLinuxAdditions-x86.run
This will compile and install the kernel modules necessary for Guest Additions functionality. Please note that if you
recompile your own kernel (later as a part of project requirements), you will have to run this again so that the modules are
compiled and installed for the new kernel too.
Under settings for VBox, I mounted the Guest Additions image file, started Arch Linux, logged in as root, and followed the instructions above. I was able to do all of the above, but when I excute the last line, I am given this message:
http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/3971/linuxd.png
I have no idea where to go from here, and any help would be greatly appreciated.
Also, I feel like I have installed Arch Linux incorrectly. All the videos and pictures I see show a GUI type interface, but all I am presented with is a text-based interface. When I boot it up, it asks me to log in, and I am then taken to the command line, but I don't see the same GUI interface everyone else seems to have. Is this normal for a basic Arch Linux install? Thanks in advance.Arch has no GUI until you install one. Some people don't want a GUI, so it's left to the user. The base install has only a command line interface.
You should probably read the Beginners Guide.
In case you missed them, there's two short articles, also on the wiki that might help you understand Arch, Arch Linux and The Arch Way -
