Installing HP Deskjet 820Cse on Windows 7

My HP DeskJet 820Cse has been a GREAT reliabile printer for many years.   Unfortunately, I cannot get it to run on my Windows 7 computer.
Since my computer doesn't have a serial printer port, I'm using a serial to USB connector/adapter.  I'm wondering if this is the problem.
W7 recognizes and installed the printer but when I print a test page, it remains in the queue.    I love this printer and don't want to retire it.  Please help !

Hi V1222C,
Welcome to the HP forums!
I see you have a Deskjet 820Cse that doesn't seem to want to work with your Windows 7 PC. I'm sorry to hear this but I will certainly see what I can do to help
It's entirely possible its the connector/adapter that you're using is the problem, and the only real way to test that would be to try installing the printer on another computer. Do you have another computer you can test it on, or perhaps a friend that will allow you to test on their computer?
If that's not a possibility to determine where the issue is stemming from, I will recommend that you make sure all your Windows Updates are done (as that's where the driver comes from) and try installing the printer again and see what happens.
You can also download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor for some further suggestions to try (hopefully, if there are any to be made).
If it's still not working after that, I may have to suggest that you start looking into a newer printer to replace the old work horse You can contact HP Tech Support and see if they have anything available in a trade in program for you as well!
Hope this helps and that you have a great rest of the week!

    Hi Redbone7.
I understand you're looking for instructions on how to install your Deskjet printer now that you have a new hard drive. I'd be happy to help you with this!
In order to find you the right drivers though, I do need to know which model of Deskjet you have and if you're using Windows or Mac. Once I know those two pieces of information I will be able to post back with either a link to the drivers or a link on how best to install your printer.
I look forward to hearing back from you, have a great day!!

I couldn't fine my HP model on the list and Windows update was unable to get a list of devices from Windows Update when I tried installing manually the HP Deskjet 3845 in Windows 7.

Hi Everyone, The driver is already built into Win 7. Follow the instructions below to install the proper driver. 1. Plug in the USB cable from the printer to the computer.2. If you have previously ran the Windows update your printer should be installed using the driver included in Win 7. If it doesn't update with a correct driver continue with the steps below.3. Open Devices and Printers4. Click Add Printer5. Click on Windows Update6. When the update has completed scroll down to HP on the left hand pane, and then select HP Deskjet 3840 Series from the list of available printers.7. • Unable to install printer Deskjet 6122 on windows 7 (64bit)

I bought a new HP Pavilion Model HPE h8-1237c running Windows 7 Professional (64bit). I’m not having any luck at trying to install my old HP Deskjet 6122 printer. Drivers on disk and newer downloaded ones are not compatible with the 64 bit OS. HP suggests installing drivers for Deskjet 990c as alternative. That didn't work either. This new computer only has USB ports and not the old parallel one like my old Pentium 4 Windows XP computer. The printer does have a USB hookup, but windows doesn't install the printer as plug and play since there are no drivers available. I've tried installing it running Windows Virtual PC in XP Mode. The printer install software runs fine in the virtual mode until it gets to the "print test page." At that point the install fails to find any printer at which time it completely reverses the install.  Pffft ! !
Help please!      I've been going crazy for two days to solve this problem. I haven't even begun to attempt installing my trusty old HP Scanjet 5530 flatbed scanner. I suspect it will be a similar nightmare as is this current printer dilemma.
Am I destine to have to buy new hardware that’s compatible with windows 7 (64bit)?

The Deskjet 6122 driver should work fine on Windows 7 using the DEskjet 990c driver, but many folks (myself included) have been having problems getting the Deskjet 990 driver to download from Windows Update.
You have probably already done the steps here, but if not start with that. If the HP Deskjet 990 does not show up after clicking on Windows Update as shown in step 8 and you get a message that "Windows Update was unable to find a list of devices, try again later" then see the solution here.  If the problem still exists then you can download the driver from the Microsoft Update Catalog site, but this is not very easy to use.  If you need to use the catalog site post back here and I will write up some directions.

  • Trouble installing HP Deskjet 722c on Windows 7 64-bit on a network

    Hi,
I have a Windows 7 64-bit system and am trying to connect to an HP Deskjet 722c through a home network. My other Windows 7 PCs can connect and print to this printer (it is shared on the network via an old WinXP box) but when I try to install the printer on my 64-bit machine, it says it is trying to download an update and it fails to do so. Please help!

    Hello fladavpam,
Sometimes it can be tricky to share a printer from XP to 7. Check out the following links for instructions on how to do so:

OK, it is not quite a direct link but try the following:  go to the Microsoft catalog update site
(you will need to use Internet Explorer, not Firefox or some other
browser).  In the search box select Deskjet 930c then press enter.  There will be several choices presented, the 11.4MB file is the 32 bit version and the 11.6MB file is the x64 version.  You can click on each title and verify which one is the proper architecture.

  • Re: HP Deskjet 820CSE Win 8.1 Install

I have the same problem with my HP 820cse
I agree, it is one of the best printers plus I have not only an almost full ink cartridge I have one spare too
I am able to use this printer with my laptop that has Windows XP but my new desktop has a Windows 8.1 and I like to be able to print with my desktop as well.

    Hi Taba25,
    Welcome to the HP forums!
I'd like to see if I can help with your Deskjet 820cse and your Windows 8.1 computer
This Supported Printers in Windows 8/8.1 document shows that it's possible to use the printer with a Windows Update Driver. I will recommend that you perform all Windows Updates (instructions to access your Windows Updates is in the Installation document I've provided below) and then follow this Installing the Printer Software in Windows 8 for a USB Cable Connection document to see if the driver is available (Method three explains how to do this).
If the print driver still isn't there, then unfortunately it looks like this printer may not work with Windows 8.1. With some of these printers it's like trying to put a 1950's car engine into a 2014 car, it may work, but don't be surprised at having to call for a tow a mile down the road
I hope everything works for you, but if not, you can always call HP Tech Support for your area and inquire about the trade in and trade up program.
    Have a good one!

  • How to install HP Deskjet 990cxi on my new laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium on an AMD 64

I have spent two days trying to install my excellent HP Deskjet 990cxi on my new laptop running Win7 Home Premium on an AMD 64-bit processor.  I want to do two things:
to set the printer up to run direct from a USB port on my laptop.  Having done this, I then want
to set the printer up on BT Home Hub Type 2A, connected through the hub's USB, as a network computer.
So far under windows, this has proved a huge problem.  It seems that the printer settings file is in 32-bit, but in the attempt to install the printer through the Windows "add printer" in Devices and Printers, and after a Windows update on the program to find Deskjet 990c, I run into a brick wall with the printer failing to install.  I get the following message: "Printer driver was not installed.  Access is denied  ".  Yet I am loading the printer drivers as Administrator.
By contrast, I also run Ubuntu 11.04 linux on this computer under Windows.
Ubuntu loaded the 990cxi drivers in an instant when it was connected via USB to the laptop; and more importantly,
Ubuntu set the printer us as a network printer running off the BT Home Hub type 2A and it worked perfectly.  I even tested it by sending a graphics file from my garden to the printer indoors and the quality was perfect.
So the observation is this: If Ubuntu can load both printer settings on the same laptop, why is Windows 7 such a trial?  Can HP do anything about this?

  • Cant install Deskjet 870cxi in Windows 7

My new PC doesnt have a parallel printer port & the 870cxi doesnt have a USB. To sort this, I purchased a USB to parallel adapter, plugged it in but Windows 7 only then recognises the 870cxi as "USB2.0-Print", in the "Unspecified" list of devices, so it doesnt recognise it as a printer.  Trying to install 870cxi drivers in Windows 7 doesnt work, as the 870cxi doesnt appear in the list of HP printers.  Any thoughts/suggestions?
    Thanks, Simon

    Hello Simon,
I seen your post on wanting to install your Deskjet 870cxi on your Windows 7 OS. I have researched this for you and found there is no downloadable driver anymore for this printer, only a USB connection using the in-OS print driver as you mentioned.
I have found a link for you to see this as well.

  • HP Deskjet 3420 on Windows 7 x64 sharing to Windows XP 32 bit

    Hi,
I've successfully installed the Deskjet 3420 onto the Windows 7 x64 system. However, I can't get it shared to my 32 bit XP system. When I try to install additional drivers, and I use either the 32 bit Deskjet 3420 XP driver or the 32 bit 3600 series XP driver, it fails saying that the processor architecture isn't supported.
If I just try and install the drivers on the XP system, it complains that the "specified location does not contain information about your hardware".
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
    Thanks
