Installing HUB myself

How would I go about installing the BT Homehub myself?
I/We have been **bleep**ed over about 5 times now by BT and we're considering switching already. (If you can consider switching, having BT taking your internet line 2 weeks before a technican is due to arrive)
First of all we had 'something wrong with the order' three time, then we had a technician sceduled for Thursday, he did not turn up due to fixing something and 'not having signal on phone' to tell us. We were told that we would have someone ring us at 10am today to turn up, neither of these happened. We rang up and was told that we would have to reschedule a technician on monday, and with this being 5 days in advance, we now have another 7 days without our Infinity which was ordered a month ago.
I was wondering, can I install the Homehub myself? Surely I don't need a technician to come plug in a few cables...

An engineer from Openreach has to come out as he will need to rejumper the copper line in the PCP to the DSLAM Cabinet.
He may need to replace your NTE/LJU and then fit a SSFP.
Also he will have to sort out any old or bodged wiring, i.e. star wiring or back wiring.
If providing someone with FTTC Broadband was just a case of a guy plugging a modem in do you honestly think Openreach would have taken on 1700 extra engineers at a cost of millions of pounds or do you think they would have just done a deal with a delivery company to post people the modem to plug it in themselves.

  • T430s installed win7 myself, 12min start up time, cannot initialize or reallocate the ssd

    Hi,
    I bought a t430s just over a month ago and it came with win8 installed. One morning it just won't start and says self repair cannot repair the PC and many people say it is a common problem of win8. I broght it to a repair centre, they said it was not a hardware problem and were not willing to do anything and wanted me to call Lenovo. I called and the guy said a box will be mailed to me and I can mail the laptop to lenovo and they'll reinstall win8 for me.
    The box never came and then I decided to install win7 myself. I do have a CD and a serial number of win7 myself. The installation process was slow but it went through.
    Here is the problem: it takes 12 minutes for win7 to start up and when it is in it can recognize the 16g ssd but it cannot intialize or reallocate it.
    I wonder if I did have a hardware problem or is the problem of my installation process or bios settings?
    any help would be appreciated!

    In order to request a box, they should have given you a case number. Call again and ask about that case. I'm guessing you have a problem with memory or a disk.

  • If i order macbook online, will i hav microsoft programs in my laptop or do i hav to install it myself?

    According to the heading, i am considering about buying macbook air online and i'd like to know if i hav to install microsoft program myself or they already install it for me? And should i order it online or buy it at the apple shop?

    It depends from whom you are buying this Air from, and what their policy is.
    For example, I bought a MacBook online from a third party authorized Apple dealer a few years back, and ordered it with Fusion and Microsoft Windows 7. They performed the install, so it was ready to go.
    You need to ask the reseller.
    If from Apple, no, they will not install additional software.

  • My Windows 7 computer can't find the drivers for my iPhone 3GS. Can I download the driver and manually install it myself?

    My desktop computer (a PC running Windows 7 ultimate) is not able to find drivers for my iPhone 3GS when plugged in. My laptop does, so I'm wondering if I can download a driver for it and install it manually on my desktop? (Please provide link) Thank you.

    This sort of helped in that the iPhone was recognized briefly. As I was configuring things related to the iPhone itunes became unresponsive so I killd the process. Then when I restarted it, it went back to the original issue.
    Even when it did work, it was competing with another driver (mtp?) When it did work the mtp driver failed and the apple one succeeded. Now that it stopped working, the Apple driver is not mentioned and the mtp driver fails.
    I guess I'll have to delete and install itunes a few more times to figure this out. Thanks for your response.

  • How much does a sound card cost and can I install it myself?

    I have no sound, what do I do?

    Atlasltd, welcome to the forum.
    When requesting help, you should always include the make/model of the computer and/or monitor. This information is necessary for us to review the specifications of the them.
    You say that you don't have sound.  Is this because you don't have a sound device or because it has malfunctioned?  If it malfunctioned, you can try reinstalling the sound device driver.
    You can buy a good sound card for under $100.  Creative makes some good cards.  Since I didn't know which computer you have, I couldn't tell you if it requires a PCI or PCI Express card.

  • Silent Install of HUB.AIR

    We have Acrobat 9 and AIR installed on Vista PC's.  I am looking for a way to silently install HUB.AIR

    Hi Folks,
      Restarting an Adobe AIR Application is not working during Silent installation.
       If I install testapp.air(which has following code) on a machine that already has Adobe AIR installed on it and I click on
       the 'Restart' button in the testapp it works fine. (The app is closed and restarted and the window reopens)
      import mx.core.Application;
      import mx.core.WindowedApplication;
      import adobe.utils.ProductManager;
      public function reStart():void
        var app:WindowedApplication =
            WindowedApplication(Application.application);
        var mgr:ProductManager =
            new ProductManager("airappinstaller");
        mgr.launch("-launch " +
            app.nativeApplication.applicationID + " " +
            app.nativeApplication.publisherID);
        NativeApplication.nativeApplication.exit(0);
      Now, we have a need to bundle Adobe AIR with our app and install Adobe AIR in 'silent' mode. I followed the directions in the Adobe
      AIR bundling agreement and used the following command to install it:
      testappInstaller.exe -silent -eulaAccepted -location "C:/Program Files/" -desktopShortcut testapp.air
      If I do this, when I click on the 'Restart' button it does NOT restart the application. The issue seems to be related to installing
      Adobe AIR in silent mode.
      I would greatly appreciate any assistance Adobe is able to provide for this issue.

  • Would Installing HD and RAM Myself Void AppleCare????

    I am looking to buy a Mac Pro. I want to buy Hard Drives and RAM from another website such as Buy.com or OWC. If I Buy and install them myself, does that void AppleCare?

    Just to add, that is what 99.9% of owners do!
    If you looked or notice, Apple's price on such items are often 300% higher in some instances unless the market is upside down.
    In fact 3rd party RAM have better warranty and support than Apple's.
    And you have better choices, especially in disk drives - from SSD vs Apple price and size, to make, brand, capacity.

  • Can I install an internal hard drive in i-mac intel 17" ?

    Where can I get an internal hard drive compatible for intel i-mac? I need a larger hard drive, like 250gb or something. Can I install it myself?

    You can go to a apple service center like CompUSA and have them install one for you. If you buy the drive from them, they will install it for free, otherwise it is like a 40 dollar charge. DO NOT attempt to install it yourself, not only will you void your warranty, the intel iMac is very difficult to open and work on and you will probably break something.

  • Keyboard removal to install memory

    I have a Satellite M105-S3021, to which I want to add RAM. I purchases two 2GB modules and would like to install them myself.  I've searched the web site, trying to find instructions on how to reach the other memory slot (which I believe is under the keyboard).  Can anyone provide  link to the service manual for this model?  All I can find is the user's manual.  Otherwise, I would appreciate any help you can offer.  I don't want to just start removing screws without knowing what I'm doing!
    Thanks, Judy

    For whatever reason, Toshiba doesn't make any manuals available, except for the user guide.
    So, you'll need to go the unofficial route:
    http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/Toshiba-Satellite-M105/take-apart-notebook-2.htm
    Note that the instructions are for complete teardown.  You just need to remove the keyboard, so start on page 2 with the bezel removal.

  • Wont let me install tiger on panther on the hard drive

    Hello,
    I recently obtained a 14" 800mhz ibook g3 with 256 mb of ram from a friend. The reason that they gave it to me in the first place becuase the hard drive crashed and they never bothered fix it. When I got I turned it on, the drive spun up then the computer shut down. I inserted a tiger install cd from my imac g5 and booted from the disk. When the installer ran it told me that tiger could not be installed on this disk. I went to disk utility and tried to repair the disk and it failed every time, erased it, partitioned it, tried everything. I finally convinced my self that the hd was shot. So I went out and bought a 60gb notebook hard drive and installed it myself. Once installed I booted from the tiger cd and ran the installer. It told me that the software was not able to be installed on this computer. I dont know why is said that it the computer seems to meet the specs of tiger. Well I also tried to install panther, when I ran the installer and got to the drive selection screen there was my new hard drive but there was a red stop sign with an exclimation mark on the bottom right and corner of the drive icon. Becuase of this it would not let me continue. I ran disk utility and repaired and everything. I am stumped. Please help me. I am also not sure what version of osx is on there because the owner does not know.
    Again the machine is a...
    ibook g3 800 mhz
    256 mb ram installed
    60gb hard drive.
    Thanks
    - Peter
    ibook g3
    Edit... Today I when ibook beeped three times when I started it up. After reading some of the apple docs, I learning how thought that it had something do to with the ram. I took it out and then placed it back in. Ran the installer and panther is currently installing!

    Hi, Peter.
    Are you sure you have the hard drive set as master? There are jumper settings for the hard drive that may not be set correctly.

  • Installing internal hard drive on an old iMac

    I am an absolute novice when it comes to taking apart a computer and know nothing about any technical terms or parts. I was able to install a new battery when the original died, so when the "genius" at the Apple Store said I could install an additional internal hard drive, I gave it a whirl. Before I try to return the hard drive, I thought I would give this a shot.
    My iMac is a 400 MHz PowerPC G3, one of the early generations, if the not the first (see-through cobalt blue exterier). I am running with 256 MB of memory and the CPU type is PowerPC 750 (83.0). I have Mac OS X Tiger, version 10.4.6 and this machine had been working great until we recently purchased our first iPod. Now with all the music being loaded in iTunes, the iMac has slowed down and even frozen when trying to use a few applications at once.
    I figured I needed more hard drive space and/or memory and the people at the Apple store suggested I purchase a Seagate 80 GB Barracuda and install it myself.
    Well, I got the computer apart and found the old hard drive, but that is about as far as I can go. I read about making the new hard drive the "slave" hooking up the BLUE, BLACK and GRAY connectors on the new cable, but I don't know a motherboard from a jumpdrive and the new connectors do not match up with the old one (the Blue connector is not the same size as the old one that I think was going into the motherboard). There is also something about an unused power cable in the old computer for the new hard drive, (which I did not see) and a suggestion that I get a Y-shaped power cable from an electronics store, which even if I knew what it was, I would not know where to begin connecting it. Not only does the new connector not match up, it is about 10 times as long as the old one, which leads me to the final issue: if I could get this all hooked up and power-supplied, where in the world would I put the new, additional hard drive? There is no room I can see adjacent to the current hard drive. Do I have to take the thing further apart?
    I realize this may provide a great laugh for anyone who knows how all this works. If trying to walk someone through this process using Apple Discussions does not make sense, I completely understand. I had nothing to lose (except possibly the cost of the Seagate drive if they won't take it back).
    I was able to put everything back together after taking the old hard drive out, so I think I could do this if the parts were all there and matched up....but I would still need to know where to put the new drive!
    Any suggestions are appreciated. I have already resigned myself to the fact I may just need a more expensive external drive...I just have few available ports.
    Thanks,
    Conrad Farner

    "...when the "genius" at the Apple Store said I could install an additional internal hard drive, I gave it a whirl... if I could get this all hooked up and power-supplied, where in the world would I put the new, additional hard drive?"
    Your iMac has room for one hard drive and the optical drive (CD-ROM, DVD-ROM, CD-RW, etc.). Any ribbon cable supplied with the hard drive or a Y-splitter power cable is of no use in the iMac. The new drive must replace the original, because the two can't coexist internally. Additionally, you need to configure the new Seagate as "master," since the optical drive is "slave." Refer to Seagate's accompanying documentation, for instructions on setting the small jumper(s) to designate the drive as "master." The drive may have been factory-configured for "cable select," which isn't supported in your iMac. After you get that straightened out, you'll need to boot the computer from the Tiger installer CD and use "Disk Utility" to format the new drive as a Mac OS Extended (HFS+) volume. You may also want to partition it as well.
    Incidentally, you should post any future questions about your iMac in the Forum dedicated to the CRT-style iMacs. You'll receive informative answers to any questions that you might have, from those who are thoroughly familiar with your model iMac.

  • How do I Install Classic on 10.3.9?

    I already have Classic on my wife's computer internal HD. I'm now setting up an external drive from scratch with the DVD install that came with the computer 10.3.7 . + updates 10.3.9
    I'm not sure (don't remember) if OS9 classic came with OSX 10.3.7, because it is already on the Internal HD. Now I'm not sure if i installed it myself 2 yrs ago. Anyway it's there.
    Now when I installed the OSX 10.3.7 from CD/DVD onto the external HD, the OS9 folder is not in the first level folder. Should I just copy the oS9 folder from the internal to the external and start operating the drive?
    Does the classic OS9 comes bundled with the install CD/DVD?
    If so, maybe it did not get installed because I may not have had the OS9 box selected, but disk utility on the 10.3.9 (wife's) does not have the OS9 box option like the DU in my computer using 10.2.8.
    I'm looking at Disk utility (v10.3) in my computer running OS10.2.8 and I see the OS9 box to select, with MAs OS extended (no Journaled) ... but on my wife's computer, she's running OS 10.3.7 and Disk utility v10.4.4, there are MAc OS extended and MAc OS extended (Journaled) but no OS9 Box .....to be selected!!!! Non existant!
    So I cannot re-format the drive with OS9.... I have done the entire install of 10.3.7, repaired permissions, updated software 10.3.9, and repaired permissions again! Should I use my version of Disk utility ? Or is it even worth it to do again?
    Does this mean that Classic is not supported on 10.3.7 or what? But I have it installed and running in the Internal Drive running 10.3.9 (with updates)
    Do I just copy the system folder OS9 and the application OS9 from the internal to the external? I'm afraid to do this because I want to do a clean install...... cuz the internal drive keeps freezing on my wife at least 1-2 times daily...so I do not want to copy any problems onto this newly "clean" external drive
    I'm against the wall... What do I do?
    Michel

    Happy,
    thank you for your quick response.
    I was just looking at a response you gave someone back in 2005....
    I was not planning to install OS9 to boot from, but only use it as classic.
    I did have the "additional software" CD and OS9 was in there !!
    Beautifull thing! Problem solved. I should have waited to click on the "solved" instead of "helpfull"...
    From one Canuck to another Canuck Thank you. it's interesting that you are from west canada and that you are now in east USA, and I'm from East Canada (Québec) and that I am in West USA. That looks like we are crossing paths in a "X" pattern .....

  • Ethernet Driver Not Installed and Yet It Is - Network useless

    Device Manager reports the network port on my W500 (4063-3FU) suddenly lacks a driver (Code 28). This is odd since I had manually installed it myself during the upgrade to a 64 bit (Win7 x64 SP1) ... because even the recent SystemUpdate utils don't work very well (as evidenced by the many tips on the forum to manually install things in a certain order).
    Multiple attempts to install Lenovo's latest network driver manually appeared to go smoothly, but Windows still says there's no driver. Astra32 calls it an Unknown device which may be odd, and the diagnostic tool "Lenovo Service Center" (LSC) is too vaue to be of use. I am adding screenshots .
    So I let Device Manager and Windows Update try to get an updated driver,but it could never find a driver. Or it would get various errors (Red X marks that tell the user nothing useful).
    Programs & Features shows what i think may be the entry (highlighted in blue) for the network/port/driver but it's vague. I've been reluctant to uninstall it just yet.
    Does anyone know what I should do next? I need to get the network port going.

    What about the blue-highlighted entry in the last graphic (from Programs & Features)... Might that be the LAN driver? How could I check?
    When I go here for  the LAN driver
    http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-w-series-laptops/thinkpad-w500/4063/3fu
    It says Ethernet driver (Intel PRO/1000 LAN adapter software) for Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit), XP - ThinkPad is the driver for the W500.
    The page on the network chipset is here:
    http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-w-series-laptops/thinkpad-w500/4063/3fu/downloads/DS019225
    The network chip should be one of these: Intel® 82567LM Gigabit Network ConnectionIntel® 82567LF Gigabit Network Connection
    Question is, how do I get the system to evaluate the network hardware? LSC is useless.
