Installing iCloud, Outlook 2010, setting up contacts sync - any tips?

Last time I tried this 2 years ago, icloud sucked all my contacts out of Outlook and I had to go through big hoops to back it out. Any tips on how to do it now? I'm apprehensive about trying it again. I have a group of contacts in outlook "iPhone contacts" and I want to only sync them to iCloud, not ALL my contacts. IS there a way to control this?

Figured it out !
I finally got calendar and contact syncing to work with Outlook 2010. See the original post for a description of the problem. After a long walk to clear my head and consider options, I did the following:
- Close Outlook
- From Windows Control Panel - Uninstall the MobileMe and iCloud apps
- Restart the system
- Go to Apple web site - Download and re-install iCloud control panel
- Open iCloud control panel and configure iCloud to sync Mail, Calendar, Contacts
- Open Outlook, iCloud downloaded Contact and Calendar info
This worked for me...good luck to others who are having similar problems.

I have wasted so many hours trying to make this work and researching Apple support. Nothing works so I am hoping to get an answer here.
First of all, here is what I am using:
Windows 7 32 bit
Outlook 2010
iPhone 5 and iPad 3
iOS 7.0.2 on both devices
I have downloaded the iCloud app for my Windows computer and checked that it sync my contacts, calendar, and tasks. I have enabled iCloud on my phone for contacts, calendars and tasks. I have not been able to get anything to sync. My iCloud calendar appears in Outlook but everything is grayed out. I see the iCloud reminders under my tasks tab but there is nothing listed.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled iCloud on my Windows computer. I have turned off the calendars, tasks, and contacts sync under iCloud on my phone and turned them back on - nothing. I have restarted my computer and iPhone - nothing. Same results with my iPad - nothing.
Additionally, I have gmail as my personal email; also am forced to use Good for Enterprise for my work email.
I am at my wits end. I finally ended up syncing today with the USB cable via iTunes but the whole point behind iCloud is to be able to sync wirelessly.
ANY help would be greatly appreciated.

It sounds like after the recent iOS update, your Outlook content is no longer syncing properly to your phone.

It's good to know. The Apple instructions for loading iCloud on a PC just seem to have either overlooked or hidden this limit. The larger problem is that it partially works: partially and erratically. So clean-up is great fun.

• Outlook 2010 using Windows XP - sync specific contact groups only

Hi -
I have an iPhone 4, and I sync it with specific contact groups (work and personal) in Outlook on two different PCs (work and personal) - which used to work.
I'm now usings iTunes 10.2.2.14 and it doesn't on my PC with XP which has Outlook 2010. Instead of syncing my specific folders, it tries to sync ALL of my contacts.
In iTunes, I click on Info < check the "Sync Contacts with" box < choose "Outlook < choose "Selected groups" < check the boxes for my specific folders (do not check the "Add contacts created outside of groups on this iPhone to:" box) < click apply and it starts to sync
You're asked if you want to merge or replace, I click merge, and then it asks me if I want to change my 407 contacts - that's my entire contact list! I don't want that in this computer's outlook ... I only want to sync the folders that I selected.
Note that this process does, however, work using the same iTunes version on my PC with Windows 7 and Outlook 2003.
Help! (and thank you)

Exchange 2013 doesn't support MAPI RPC, it has to use RPC over HTTPS, a.k.a., Outlook Anywhere (or POP or IMAP, which are inferior) so it sounds like everything is working as designed.
The password being rejected for Outlook Anywhere suggests that you have a configuration error. Run this command:
Get-OutlookProvider -identity EXPR | FL CertificatePrincipalName
and make sure that this matches the CN of your certificate. XP has a problem when it doesn't. You can change it with Set-OutlookProvider if need be.

• ICloud , Outlook 2010 and Windows 8 synchronization issues

Everything was working fine under Windows 7. Outlook 2010 and IPad Contacts and Calendar were syncing perfectly. Once Windows 8 was installed problems arose. If I entered or updated a Contact or Calendar item in Outlook 2010 it synced perfectly with iCloud and the IPad. However, if I entered data for a Contact or Calendar item on the IPad, it found its way to iCloud but did not update the item on Outlook. I've tried reistalling iCloud software with no success. Any ideas???

I have exactly the same problem with Windows 7. The Sent folder has lots in it on icloud and my other devices, but is empty on the Outlook client on my PC. The sent folder is a "special" foder for iMap and is permenantly selected for syncing.
I switched off the iCloud mail in the control panel and then added it again with now luck.
Did you manage to get it working?

• Problems setting up iCloud & Outlook 2010

Hi,
I have just installed Outlook 2010 & am trying to set it up to work with iCloud. When I tick the boxes for Calendar & Contacts on the iCloud control panel & click apply it starts the set up process, but part way through I get an error message saying it can't set up due to an unexpected error. If I click cancel it leaves the boxes ticked, but iCloud does not appear in Outlook. If I click try again the iCloud control panel just constantly shows 'setting up' next to contacts & calendars. The only way to then stop it is using Task Manger. I did this before & it wiped out all my Outlook Contacts & Calander entries (fortunately I was able to get them back from my iphone using itunes).
I have tried uninstalling / reinstalling the icloud control panel, & have also tried running 'Repair' on the Office 2010 setup, but still get the same problem.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks
(PS I'm using Vista 64bit)

Hi,
I managed to get it working by doing Contacts & Calendar separately.
So, I turned Contacts on in the iCloud control panel leaving Calendar off, it did the setup correctly, then I turned Calendar on as well in the iCloud control panel & again it did the setup correctly.
Hope this helps you.
I have discovered that iCloud & Outlook doesn't work quite as well as I'd like it to - Outlook doesn't show any appointments from the iCloud calendar in the To-do bar (an Outlook problem) & I've had some problems with the categories I'd given some Contacts (not sure if the problem is in Outlook or the iCloud, but although the categories appeared, filtering based on them didn't seem to).

• Entering events in Outlook (2010/2007) calendar and syncing with iCloud

Setup: H/W and S/W: 1) Personal PC with Windows 7, Outlook 2010, 2) Work PC with Windows 7, Outlook 2007, 3) iPhone 5
Created unique iCloud user ID (different from Apple ID) to permit use of individual calendar and contacts across all platforms without co-mingling of data (contacts etc.) with rest of family (who is under same Apple ID). Works well.
Installed iCloud on both PCs, enabled iCloud on iPhone, all using new unique iCloud ID
My secretary creates events (as organizer) for me (as invitee) in her local Outlook calendar (on her PC) which appear on my work PC Oultook calendar. These events also appear in my iCloud calendar on my work PC. Good! (FYI, She uses her local Outlook calendar so she can invite others from work who are on same email system.)
Issue: As said before, events created by secretary appear in my local Outlook calendar and my iCloud calendar on my work PC but not on my iCloud calendar on my personal PC at home. Events created in iCloud on work PC do appear on personal PC, just not events created on local Outlook calendar at work. Seems, if these events appear in iCloud in one place, they choudl appear in iCloud in all places...yes? the cloud is the cloud is the cloud...is it not?
Am I missing a step? I have refreshed iCloud in all.

• Since upgrading iPhone 4S to OIS 7 my outlook 2010 calendar and contacts will not sync. Anyone have a solution?

Everything was fine with Outlook 2010 on my iPhone 4S. Now with IOS 7 my calendar and contacts no longer sync. I have read so many comments online but no one has had the perfect solution. I feel as if I have tried everything. I have even reset my software and phone. Still nothing. Is this feature no longer available or are there new requirements to make it work? I am so unhappy!!!

• Problem syncing Iphone 4 with Outlook 2010 Calendar and Contacts

I am running Windows 7 with Office 2010 including Outlook 2010.
When I received my Iphone 4 three weeks ago, syncing with Contacts and Calendars worked fine.
After having updated OS on the phone and Itunes on the computer, I get the following error message:
"Itunes kunne ikke indlæse dataklasseoplysninger fra Synkroniseringstjenester. Opret forbindelse igen eller prøv senere"
The syncing of music and apps work perfectly.
PLEASE HELP

Still no help, no sulution to Apple iPhone sync problems with Calendar...? I wish someone from Apple, or someone with specific knowledge could help! Windows XP Professional, Outlook 2003 to iPhone 4S (2012) does not communicate any Calendar entries between the two machines.
Strange thing is that it worked when iPhone was newly purchased for about a month, then stopped??
Even stranger is that Contacts get synced just fine between the two machines?

• Outlook 2010 new calendar item sync??????

I have Outlook 2010 and iphone 4 at&t. When I add a calendar item on my iphone and then sync iphone to outlook using itunes, the calendar item doesn't appear on my outlook calendar. Any ideas? Thanks

Suddenly I am having the exact problem. I tried uninstalling the most recent update of iTunes (following all the Apple instructions to completely uninstall it) and installing the next older version, thinking maybe it was the iTunes update that broke it. That didn't work.
I have checked my Outlook AddIns and the Outlook iTunes add-in is not disabled. When I check my Info tab it tells me that "No Supported Calendar App can be found". Yet, it can find my Contacts in Windows Outlook.
I am running Windows 7 64-bit, MS Outlook 2010, iPhone 4
So, I'm also looking for ideas.

• After switching to iCloud, Outlook 2011 calendar no longer syncs with iCal.

Before iCloud, my Outlook 2011 calendar (Exchange) was syncing locally with iCal, which worked just fine. Once I moved to iCloud, my local calendar was removed by iCloud, and I can no longer sync my Outlook 2011 calendar (Exchange) to my local iCal (I don't want it to sync with iCloud, if that's still possible). How do I get this capability back?

That's not the point. Before iCloud, Outlook synched with Apple Calendar and/or iCal. With iCloud, Cal syncs with iPhone and other devices. Outlook doesn't have to sync with iCloud (although that would certainly be nice). It just has to continue to sync with Cal, which in turn syncs with devices via iCloud.
But for some inane reason, it doesn't. If this is Apple's way of forcing people to not use Office and only use Calendar and Apple Mail, they are going to stop the gains they've made in business environments. Businesses, especially large businesses, use Outlook. End of story.
Furthermore, Apple's instructions for setting up or deleting iCal and iCloud accounts is complete gibberish. And I'm a tech who has been working with computers for 32 years. Apple used to be great at making things easy. They now suck at it and are just as bad as Microsoft.

• Outlook 2010 search for contacts of connected account

Hello.
My client has one issue: they can search contacts in their exchange account but the results don't return contacts from an account that she is authorized to (she can see emails from this other account). She doesn't remember what triggered it she just said
it stopped working. The other person has Mac. How do you enable or troubleshoot search shared contacts from connected accounts?
She is using Windows 8 and Outlook 2010 and they have internal exchange server 2007. I have seen this post: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/0403a096-49b1-4a87-a34f-44566c9cf9ab/outlook-2010-searching-a-shared-users-contacts?forum=outlook
where it points me to another site but it doesn't say what the problem could be if you can't search from shared contacts.

Hi,
Is the user searching within the shared Contacts folder?
Switch to Outlook Online Mode and search, does the issue persist?

• Outlook 2010 Advanced Find Contacts Not Working

Some Outlook 2010 Advanced Find criteria work but the "email is not empty" and "email is empty" criteria return no results though there are contacts that have the Email field populated.

Hi,
Are you using Search Tools > Advanced Find > Advanced tab > Field > Email Fields > Email? Please make sure you selected the correct Contacts folder when you perform the search.
We can also try remove Outlook from the indexing location to check the result. To do this, click Search Tools > Search Options > Indexing Options > Modify > clear the check box before Outlook...
Please let me know the result.

• Can't find Outlook 2010 Task and Contact Folders

I upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 7. Prior to the upgrade, my Outlook 2010 pst file had grown extremely large (39G) as it was not recognizing deletions I was making. After the upgrade, I can open the 39G pst file, but all I see is
my emails, not my task, contact or calendar folders. How can I get to my task, contact and calendar folders?

Do you mean when you select tasks, contacts or the calendar that nothing is visible in there, or that you can't see those folders at all?
If you're not seeing them at all, have you checked down the bottom of the left hand window and made sure the icons are visible for those three? If you select the Folder view you should then also see those folders along with the mail folders (if you're in
Mail view you will only see mail items displayed, not any of the other folders).
In terms of mailbox pst file size, you have remembered to empty the deleted items folder I assume? If you right click on the mailbox, go to properties and then click Folder Size you'll see how much space is being used by your mailbox folders and whether
you really are using 39GB or if it's mostly empty space.
