Installing IDM via text based browers

We have succesfully installed IDM 11g and OAM 10g on RHEL5 several times but the installation was completed using Firefox. OAM especially requires the use of a browser to access the Access and Identity servers to instantiate the access server, policy manager, webgates, etc.
We have a request from a customer wondering if IDM and OAM can be installed using a text based browser like Lynx in the event that connection speed makes use of a gui or x-client browser impossible.
Hopefully this is a simple answer...
thanks

Hi OldGuy,
The browser part of OAM setup requires accessing pages with quite a lot of javascript, and some java applets (configure attributes for the Identity setup, for example), and it is asking a lot for any text-based browser to be able to negotiate these (Lynx does not even support javascript, according to Wikipedia). maybe other text browsers have more features, but at the very best there will be a large number of key-clicks required to pass the installation screens.
In my experience, when having to do installation remotely over a slow network, customers have used VNC or simiilar to a machine on the remote network, and used a browser in that session. Obviously that can still be painful, but I doubt if a text-based browser will work at all.

Colin

  • Cannot edit pwd.tmp file Installing IDM 7.1 database on Win2k8 - MSSQL 2005

    Hi there,
I am installing IDM 7.1 on a virtual Windows 2008 Server, MS SQL 2005.
I am stuck at a very early stage in the Installing-SQL-database guide; I have tested the database
connection successfully, using the mxmc-test.cmd script. I am failing on the next step, running the
    mxmc-install.cmd.
There are two different errors, both with the final message "echo was unexpected at this time".
The first error skips past the password prompt for users sa, mxmc_oper and confirm password
for mcmx_oper, shows the error message and then returns me to the command prompt.
Once I added my logged-in user [SID]adm as "mapped to the Database" in  the
MS SQL Management Console > Login Properties > User Mapping, I got a new variation
    on the above message.
The second message again skips past the sa user password prompt, but then
    displays additional text:
    E:\IDM\51035967\DATA_UNITS\IC_DESIGNTIME_71\Database\SQL-Server\mxmc-install
***Install an Identity Center database mxmc_db
***This command will install a new Identity Centre database.
***To continue press Enter, otherwise CTRL-C
Press an key to continue . . .
    Enter password for user sa:
    Access is denied.
    E:\IDM\51035967\DATA_UNITS\IC_DESIGNTIME_71\Database\SQL-Server\pwd.tmp
    Access is denied.
    Enter password for mxmc_oper:
    Access is denied.
    Confirm password for mxmc_oper:
    Access is denied.
echo was unexpected at this time.
I have previously enabled the sa user, and reset its password to be the installation
master password. I first tried with domain\[SID]adm , then localmachine\[SID]adm, then
with Domain\Administrator, and lastly with local machine\Administrator
Whan I manually add some text to pwd.tmp, I am not allowed to save the file, as
either [sid]adm. As administrator I am able to save the file.
When I run the script as either Administrator I get the first error.
With either [sid]adm  user I get the second error.
So it appears to be Windows 2008 Server file security, for my [sid]adm users.
They are both in the Administrators group for the local machine,
and the E:\ has full access for Administrators group.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Kind regards,
    Andy Minshull

    I have solved this issue; there are two parts to the solution;
    1: Write Permission to pwd.tmp
Although the installation cd folder had already been copied from the host to the VM guest, copying the folder to a new name resolved the issues with the file security. Not sure why exactly, but once done, SIDADM is able to edit pwd.tmp manually, as well as via the script.
    2: Alternative Install Script.
We were greatly helped [by this SDN post|Re: identity center install problem: "echo unexspected at this time";, 4th reply:
(I'm installing on a virtual machine)....
Then I tried mxmc-xinstall with given prefixes. That worked for me.
On inspection of the mxmc-install script, it sets the necessary variables, based on some user input, then passes the values to the script mxmc-xinstall. Running mxmc-xinstall with no switches shows the prefixes required. Also, the mxmc-xinstall script is outlined in the Install guide, under section "Installing the Identity Center database with a given prefix", since it provides the opportunity to choose a prefix other than the standard "mxmc".
These two actions have solved my problem. So, based on the fact that Karsten had the same problem, on the same OS and on  a VM, I guess it is safe to assume that this is a bug specific to using Win2k8 on VMware. Our VMWare version is Server 2.
    All the best,
    Andy

  • Problem trying to install XP via Boot Camp, computer almost died

    Hi there,
I just recently purchased a 24" 2.8Ghz intel iMac 500GB harddrive with OS X 10.5.2. I plugged everything together yesterday morning and the computer was going fine, just liek a dream. On a side note I was genuinely impressed with the ease of setting up and how quick, intuitive and reliable the mac and OS X Leopard was.
This is a bit long but I think I need to go into detail what happened in order for any of you to fully understand what happened to my mac.
Later in the afternoon I decided to install Win XP via Boot Camp. I knew that XP SP2 or later and VISTA was recommended but I decided to use my XP Home Edition "2002 version" install disc instead.
I opened up the Boot Camp Assistant, partitioned 15GB of the 500GB harddrive, inserted WinXP install disc and the computer restarted with everything going to plan thus far. I was going through the install process as normal but I came to a window asking which partition to use to install XP ("c" or "d") or if I wanted to create another partition. I also had my iPod still connected to the computer and I think the installation recognised that harddrive too (all 12GB of space left on my iPod). I wasn't sure what to do so I decided to quit the install process by pressing the relevent keys ("press F3 to quit" etc). Upon automatically restarting the computer I first came to a white screen for about1 or so minutes and then a black screen came up with white text asking me to "press any key to 'something' the CD" (can't remember what the rest of the text was), but the keyboard was unresponsive. I turned the computer off and unplugged it as according to the instruction manual that came with the mac, waited the suggested 5-6 seconds, turned it back on but I came across the same screens. I couldn't eject the XP install disc either. I restarted the computer again, held down the eject button whilst restarting, the disc thankfully ejected but I then came across the same black screen but with no text, just a white flashing underscore cursor. I decided to remove my iPod and restart the computer again. AGAIN I came across the same white screen, then black screen with the flashing white underscore cursor and unresponsive keyboard. I decided to insert the OS X install disc 1 (I don't remember if I inserted it whilst at the black screen or if I restarted the computer and THEN inserted the OS X install disc). The disc loaded slowly but I eventually went through the install process (choosing your language) and then came across a window asking me "Where would you like to install OS X?" but I couldn't install it anywhere. I opened "disk utility" or some program with the word "disk" in it, had no idea what I was doing, somehow created a new volume (though I thought I was actually erasing the XP partition I set up earlier) but in MS-DOS FAT Format or something. I then was able to choose a place (or volume) to install OS X but I had to change the format of the untitled volume from FAT to something along the lines of "Mac OS X journaled (enabled)" (whatever that means). There were other format options available but I just chose the top one on the list (Mac OS X journaled (enabled)). I then made a full install of OS X 10.5.2 and late last night downloaded the latest pdate for Leopard (10.5.4) along with other updates. The computer is working fine now thankfully andeverything seems to be back to normal.
I just want to know what actually happened. What did happen to my computer? Did I somehow wipe the harddrive? Why didn't the computer reboot to HDD when I ejected the WinXP install disc? Which format is the HDD formatted to? What does "Mac OS X journaled (enabled)" mean? Also how come my HDD is 500GB whereas when I checked Boot Camp Asistant a second time (but not installing Win XP again) My HDD is 460GB with 440GB of available space? Is there still another partition I am unable to see? Is there an extra 40GB of data floating around the harddrive that I'm unaware of? What are the factory settings for my computer? I really hope I haven't formatted the disk and installed the OS to settings that weren't like how the computer was originally set BEFORE I regrettably tried to install WinXP via Boot Camp.
If anyone could respond or give me some sort of advice, explanation or help I would very much appreciate your assistance.
    Cheers.

According to wiki "the documentation from Apple states that Windows XP Service Pack 2 or Windows Vista is requisite for a Boot Camp installation, and it also mentions that trying to install an unsupported operating system could prevent the computer from booting even into Mac OS X". Sure that was from wiki, but it does seem to support and somewhat validate the problem I had with installing an earlier edition of XP.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BootCamp_%28software%29#Other_operatingsystems
Thanks for the info on the Filesystem info. My problem is that installing OS X on a mac is just a little bit more technical than installing Windows on a PC as there are a few more things to consider. Plus I'm not familiar with any of the utility programs as well. It's a **** miracle I managed to somehow create a volume to install OS X on when I thought I was erasing the partition I created for WinXP.
But I'm still not sure about the missing 40GB from my 500GB HDD. Upon coming to the desktop straight after OS X was fully re-installed I noticed that the HDD only had 460GB and that 440GB of it available space. So the full installation of OS X was 20GB, but where has the other 40GB gone? I swear I saw that I had much more available space on my harddrive (BEFORE I tried to partition my HDD under Boot Camp Assistant and stuffing up the computer). Is the missing 40GB from the ORIGINAL FACTORY INSTALL of OS X INCLUDING all my iTunes music and other files I uploaded to the computer earlier? It would make sense but there's no way, as far as I know, of checking this. Any ideas?
    Cheers.

  • 23" Cinemadisplay HD won't show text based graphics.

    Hi.
I have recently purchased a 23" Cinemadisplay HD that had been left on the shelf in a local electronics store (from early 2008, with the aluminum frame and stand) that I'm using on a PC running Linux. My graphics adapter is an nVidia 6800 AGP8X card. Everything works fine, but I'm a bit surprised that the display doesn't show any of the scrolling text during bootup or the text-based BIOS-screen, but wakes up when the GUI starts. (X-windows in my case). Is this how it's supposed to work?
I'm asking because I want to reinstall Windows XP and Ubuntu Linux om my computer, and the installation routines start as text based. If I can't see that on my display, then I have a problem.
Is there a way around this?

I can confirm this because I´m using my display with Boot Camp(Windows XP Home) and the display doesn´t wake up until the GUI starts(welcome screen). DOS seems to be unaware of my Cinema Display. I had to do the install process on the laptop display, so I guess you will have some difficulty when you try installing XP.

  • IChat AV - how do I get rid of it? I want text-based iChat.

iChat has been working just fine for me, I have had no complaints, and I really like it over A.I.M.
However, now when I try to start iChat, it brings up iChat AV. I didn't install it, it just came up by itself. I do not know where it came from. I go through the screens, it asks me if I want to set up Jabber, no I don't. Then it asks me if I want to set up Bonjour. No I don't! I want the same text-based iChat I've been using.
Then it says there's no camera attached. No lie! I do NOT want video conferencing! I want the old-fashioned text messaging, I do not want video conferencing and I do not want audio conferencing.
Click "Done" on the conclusion screen and it crashes.
I have an eMac G4-700 running OS 10.4.8

    Hi OldRadioCollector,
    Welcome to the Apple
    Discussions
In Tiger the only option is iChat AV (it is lists as
    just iChat though).
It was just fine a few days ago, and I've been running Tiger for well over a year.
It runs through the options that it can do in the
    Start up screens.
No it doesn't. The first screen says:
    Welcome to iChat AV
    iChat redefines video conferencing. Again.
    <and so forth>
    To get started click continue.
You click continue and you get:
    Set up iChat instant messaging
    <all the information is correct>
Click Continue, and it brings up:
    Set Up Jabber Instant Messaging
In the text it says "or you can skip this step by pressing continue"
    So I press continue.
Then it says : Set up Bonjour Messaging
I do not check the check box, then press continue
    It says:
    Set up iChat AV
<it says there is no camera attached to this computer. that is correct>
    Press continue.
    Then it says: Conclusion
You are now ready to use iChat AV
    <some more text>
Click Done to start using iChat AV
    I click done...then it crashes.
You can use it just to Text chat though.
Try Disabling the MagicMenuEnabler whilst you do the
    Start up Screens
How do I do that? I do not see any reference to the MagicMenuEnabler.

  • Irregular failure to authenticate OpenDirectory users via password-based ssh

TL;DR - my Yosemite Open Directory server irregularly fails to properly authenticate users (via password-based ssh).
I recently moved an Open Directory server from an Xserve running 10.6 to a new Mini running 10.10.  I archived the OD config on the Xserve and then took it offline.  Then I brought the Mini online using the same hostname/IP address, created a new OD master using the archived configuration.  Everything seemed to work well, however sometimes the server will not authenticate users via password when logging in with ssh/sftp/scp.  This is also true of a few OS X machines that bind to the OD server (i.e. they usually authenticate users properly, but sometimes fail for no discernable reason).
The failures are only for password authentication using ssh.  Other mechanisms do not exhibit the auth failures.  For instance, AFP and SMB user auth never fails (with proper credentials).  Nor do users to a FileMaker Server machine that authenticate via the OD server have problems.  Public key based ssh authentication never fails.  Local accounts (non-OD, aka "Local Network Accounts") also do not fail using password-based authentication.
The failures are irregular.  The only pattern that I can find at all is that sometimes when the failures start happening, they keep happening continuously until...at some point they work properly again.  That is, they may fail from 11:15 am to 2:01 pm, and if so, then all of them fail in that time range.  Sometimes that time range lasts seconds, sometimes it lasts hours.
The time range failure pattern is host specific.  For instance, if password authentication is failing on the main OD server, authentication may be fine on the other bound machines.  If authentication is failing on one of the bound machines, then it may be fine on all others and fine on the OD server itself.
The failure pattern does not seem to correlate to any other events or activity on the server (even remotely).  CPU utilization never gets above about 15%.  Memory utilization is similarly very low.  Network traffic is occasionally high, but it does not seem in any way related to the auth failures.  There are not other log messages that occur before or after the failures with any consistency.
I've been monitoring the auth failures by attempting to login to the OD server and two other bound hosts once per minute so that I can tell when the auth is failing (before getting calls from the users).
The adaptive firewall is not running on the OD server.  Nor is any other firewall.
Below are a comparison of the system.log entries for a failed and successful auth (I've stripped out those lines that are identical in both instances).  The log entries have been sanatized as described.
Rebooting the OD server does not affect the bound clients' authentication.  Rebooting the OD server is problematic, and I cannot do it often.  When I do, sometimes failures start soon after reboot, and sometimes that don't come back for many hours - again, no discernable pattern.
If anyone has any ideas what I can do to discover the source of this problem and come up with a solution, I'd very much appreciate it.  Note that I'm aware that I can export all users and group and reconstruct a new, clean OD master, but without the ability to save the passwords, this becomes a large logisitcal problem, and I'm saving it as a last resort (particularly since if it doesn't solve my problem, I will have inconvenienced many users and be right back in the same place).
    Thanks for reading.

    Hello James,
I have not had a chance to look for the Router configuration document, however, for one of my certificate exams I did configure Authentication Proxy on an IOS router. The config for that lab was:

  • Text based VI Icon editor with letter compression

For anyone who is looking for a quick and easy text based icon editor I've posted my latest version in the LAVA CR
     http://forums.lavag.org/downloads.html&showfile=56
    Description:
This is the second version of my vi icon editor and was created in LV8.2. The purpose is to help quickly create text base icons. The editor can be used in place of the standard NI icon editor or as a stand alone vi. see instructions. My original posting of the icon editor Ver. 1 can be found here
    LabVIEW 7.0,7.1 http://forums.lavag.org/index.php?s=&s...ost&p=19022
    LabVIEW 8.0 http://forums.lavag.org/index.php?s=&s...ost&p=12920
    Instructions:
1: The icon editor was designed to be used as a replacement for the standard NI editor LV8.x only. To get LabVIEW 8.x to use the editor place the three files (lv_icon.vi, color templates.bin and the folder lv_icon_Subvis) in the LabVIEW 8.2\resource\plugins directory.
The next time the icon editor is called LabVIEW will use the lv_icon.vi instead of the standard one.
There is a button on the editor that will allow you to use NI’s editor when a text icon is not desired.
2: The icon editor can also be called from another vi or used as a stand alone tool. Make sure the “From Editor” control is set to false either via terminal in the lower left corner of the connector pane or manually in the FP. This setting indicates to the vi that a vi reference will be used to extract and save the icon information. If the “VI REF” input control is invalid at runtime a dialogue box will appear asking the user to select a vi.
    New features:
Along with the auto drawing and Text compressing from version 1, version 2 has 2 new features.
1: In addition to the 2 color format in version 1 the icon editor now supports a 5 color format (Frame, Header text, Header Back, Body Text, and Body Back). This is the standard frame that many programmers use.
2: In version 2 the last 10 icon color sets are saved in a binary file and are recalled each time the editor is open. These color sets can then be selected and reused.
    Future Ideas and improvements:
A graphics picker that would import a list of graphics to choose from
Template creators were text zones could be created to avoid interfering with graphics.
Incorporate some or all of the Ni editor functions.
Text extractor that would fill in the text boxes from the icon image.
Please feel free to give me feedback. This version has benefited greatly from ideas given to me by coworkers and other programmers.

    Version 2.1:
Along with the auto drawing and Text compressing from version 1, version 2 has 2 new features.
1: In addition to the 2 color format in version 1 the icon editor now supports a 5 color format (Frame, Header text, Header Back, Body Text, and Body Back). This is the standard frame that many programmers use.
2: In version 2 the last 10 icon color sets are saved in a binary file and are recalled each time the editor is open. These color sets can then be selected and reused.
    Version 2.2:
Along with the all the features from version 2.1, version 2.2 has several new features.
1: A new color picker was added. The standard NI color picker has been replaced by one that will only show the legal 221 colors allowed by LabVIEW for icons.
My thanks to Justin Goeres for the idea.
2:Key navigation has improved. The key navigation will only set focus to the text boxes to navigate between boxes use the tab, enter, up and down keys.
My thanks to boone_93 for the idea.
3:Improved UI. The buttons and current and previous icons have been relocated for a more intuitive look. I have also added tip strips to the buttons and history array.
My thanks to ahull for the idea.
4:Random color picker. A random color button has been added to help pick colors.
My thanks to Dave Graybeal for the idea.
5: FP auto centers. The icon editor will now open in the center of the primary display.
My thanks to tcplomp for the code.
6: The ability to read the text in the icon was added. If the icon to be changed was previously created by this icon editor the program will automatically detect the characters in the icon and convert them back into strings. This function allows for small changes like color changes and spelling mistakes to be changed without having to type all the text over.
    This one was all mine.
7:Bug with Panel close fixed. When the user presses the x in the upper right corner the editor will shut down gracefully instead of locking up.
I made a avi file that shows some of the new features for Version 2.2 which I posted the support thread.
Please feel free to give me feedback. This version has benefited greatly from ideas given to me by coworkers and other programmers.

  • How do I invite via text from icalendar from my iphone to another phone listed in my contacts??

How do I invite via text from icalendar grom my iphone to another phone listed in my contacts??

If you want your husband to receive an iMessage, you must send it to him as an iMessage yourself. Just go into the Messages app and send it to your husband's Apple ID. All e-mails (except me.com, as it is part of iCloud/iMessages) don't actually work with Messages.
Alternatively, you could download free, wi-fi based messenger apps on your iDevices. Popular ones include WhatsApp, but there should be more that suit your preferences.

Can't re-install apps via App Store after deleting them.
I tried cleaning all appstore.plist, cache, cookie files.
    The problem remains the same.
    Please advice.

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Select
    /var/log ▹ install.log
from the hierarchical list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar. Then select the messages from the last installation or update attempt, starting from the time when you initiated it. If you're not sure when that was, start over and note the time. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting.

  • Is there a text-based FMS 3 installer for Linux?

Just downloaded FMS 3 for Linux. Per
(flashmediaserver_install.pdf) installer document, it implies that
you must run some kind of X Window (Gnome or KDE) to in order to
install the product. Is that true? If that is true, is there an
alternative, such as a text-based installer? Thanks.

No, there's isn't. You should install IIS 7 first, and then install 32-bit version OBIEE.

  • Installing Chrome via GPO

Hi! I've been working on trying to install Chrome to all Domain Computers via GPO by following this link and cannot figure out what I've been doing wrong but it's not installing on any machine. Can someone tell me if something is missing from these instructions?
    http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/google-in-the-enterprise/install-chrome-via-gpo-and-save-yourself-some-time/

    Hi Lynnette74,
Based on my understanding, you would like to deploy Chrome to all Domain Computers via GPO. Right?
It would help us to narrow down the cause of this issue if you could provide the following information:
Did this issue occur in one computer or several computers? This step is to check the cause of this issue is the process of deployment or the installation.
Do this issue still occur when you manually install this software in this computer? This step is to check if the installation package cause this issue. If you can manually install
this software successfully, then the deployed installation package may be broken during the deployment. If not, the cause may be the computer or the software, such as compatibility, account permission and so on.
In addition, you can follow the steps below to check if the GPO is applied to these clients:
    Click
Start, type rsop.msc in the search box to access
    Resultant set of policy.
Check if the GPO is applied to these clients and the setting of the GPO is correct.
For your information, please refer to the following article to learn more about the software deploment via GPO:

  • My bb classic suddenly unable to send/receive photos via text messages

It was working up until a few weeks ago. Now I cannot share photos via text. What happened and how to fix it?

Rebooting the device is the first troubleshooting step for odd issues like that. Resetting is the second. It was more efficient for me to suggest the reset, but in the future you should try just rebooting.
And if you find yourself rebooting or resetting often, take a look at what you are doing, such as the last app you installed, the apps you are running, the apps you have open at the time, in short any coincidences.
For what it's worth I practically never do resets and seldom reboot.

  • ITSMobile for Text-based devices

    Hello,
My customer wants to change his current RF solution for SAP (after upgrading it to ECC 6.0) but wants to keep the old-fashioned text-based RF scanners.
One of the first solution I was to propose was TEKConsole (could be the SAPConsole as well), but as the freshly installed SAP system will have an integrated ITS server on it, my question is:
can ITSMobile be used for simple (LM*, no fancy stuff) applications towards Text-based services?
    Thanks in advance!
Edited by: Bada Boom on Apr 10, 2009 5:05 PM

OK, so I think i got the answer myself: as the device (Intermec 2425) is supporting HTML, this should be feasible. I still have to test that, but theoretically it shouldn't be a problem.
    Cheers!

  • Cannot send pictures via text message since software update...HELP!!!!

Although I am a BIG FAN of BB Torch (have had several), BUT since it was discontinued, I had no choice but to "up grade" to BB Z10...IT was working just fine...NOT as good as the Torch though, but I was getting use to it...TILL the new software came along last week (Tuesday), so after doing just that, up dating my phone, I saw that I was NOT able to send or receive pictures via text message. I did called ATT, deleted everything, resintalled my data/information...and STILL nothing.
I "google" the problem, and was sooooo SAD to find out that I was NOT the only one, and that THIS problem is AN OLD ONE (2013), but BB has done nothing to fix it.
I did read on of the technical support answers and followed every single step, but STILL NOTHING, NADA...no able to send neither receive pictures...PLEASE, PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!

Well, interesting... glad it worked out.
