Installing iLife on different Mac

I recently bought an iMac for my office which came with the latest version of iLife. As I have no intention of using the office iMac with iLife, I would like to install it on my MacBook Pro instead - which has an older version. As it came preinstalled on the iMac I can't find how to do this. Can you offer advice?

does anyone know if I have 2 of each program now (i.e. 2 imovie, and etc?) or did the installation replace what came with the computer? I just don't want to have double of everything. Should I just reinstall my applications?
(Usually) when Apple software is newer than that already installed it will overwrite/update the previous version. There are exceptions. iMovie '08 did not overwrite iMovie '06, I believe. There may be others.
iLife '09 was introduced in January 2009. If your computer is newer than that chances are the '08 install you did made no changes in your software.
While it is running, click on the NAME of the application in the upper left hand of your toolbar. Select the *About NAME* to see if you have the '08 or '09 version of that software.
Good luck!

  • Install on 2 Different Macs?

Is it ok to install one Retail version of FCE 4 on 2 separate Macs? I use 2 to accomplish many tasks, sometimes multi-tasking, and they are connected via a home LAN.
Do I need to Register one, and then the other will just work fine. I got I could not install the 2nd machine's version, while the first application was open on the other machine.
How savvy of Apple ... does this mean I can only have 1 copy running at a time, unless I temporarily disconnect my Network? or that I cannot have it installed on 2 machines?

Well, that will cut down on me running back and forth between 2 open versions ... that and Screen Sharing, if it did allow me to open the 2 versions ...
Looks like it's allowing me to open the 2nd one (alone), without asking for Registration, ok. Two separate Desktop Towers ... a QS Dual 1GHz and a DA Dual 533. Maybe its forgiving for my not having a laptop (don't have a cell phone either) ...
Tom ... I recently purchased your book FCE 4 Editing Workshop, and now need to dig deeper into its wonders ... thanks for the book/referrals & quick responses.

  • Installing on a different Mac computer

I had been using CS3 in a MacBook, and do have the coupon code number and serial number for CS3.  Last night I uninstalled CS3 from the old MacBook, following EXACTLY the uninstall procedure for Mac's as instructed, i.e., deactivatong first.  This morning I tried installing the same CS3 software in our other Mac, a three year old MacBook Pro MacBook Pro that uses OSX 10.6.8 (normal for this machine).   went to the web site http://www.adobestudentsupport.com and could not find a prompt to enter the coupon and serial numbers and when trying to install  via adobe set up in the disk root sirectory, the installation fails and reports that it encountered an error.  What am I supposed to do to install, under the circumstances?

  • Can I copy installESD.dmg to DVD or Flash and install on a different Mac?

I have downloaded Lion to my Macbook Pro.  We live in a rural area and are on a "low speed" high speed internet connection, so it took me ~24 hours to download.  I have not yet begun the installation process, and have copied the installesd.dmg from the install folder to  my desktop. We have 3 macs in our house, and I don't want to have to try to download again, as the process is so slow.  Can I just copy the installesd.dmg to a DVD or flash drive to install it on the other 2 macs?
If this is possible, do I have to do anything special? Can I install from the flash or DVD or do I need to copy onto the target mac first?  Although both other macs are backed up using time machine, I'm a little nervous about just launching an installation without really knowing what I'm doing.

No, you can't just copy the InstallESD.dmg file to a DVD or USB thumb drive IF you want to boot from those media and install Lion. You can follow the instructions here to burn a bootable DVD or restore a bootable USB thumb drive. You have already completed some of the steps. Just follow the steps to create a bootable DVD or USB thumb drive. The bootable media allows you to use Disk Utilities or the other Mac OS X Utilities if you need to prepare the volume you're installing on.

  • Help on How to install iLife 06 on mac os x leopard !!!!

    Hello ,
I recently bought mac os x Leopard and I was just wondering if it is possible to download the software that was bundled software with my mac.

No, if you've erased iLife you will either have to reinstall from your original disks or buy the new version.

  • Install iLife from new Mac on old Mac?

I currently have a MacBook Pro with iLife '08. I'm planning on purchasing a Mac Mini to use as a media center and would like to swap the iLife '09 on the Mini with the iLife '08 on my MacBook Pro. Is this possible, and if so, how?

No - the software that comes with your computer is set up only for that system

  • Can I install iLife 06 and 08 on two diff macs?

I have the pre'08 iLife on both my G5 and my Macpro, and all my iweb sites were created on my Macpro.
Can install '08 and the updates on my G5 without affecting the domain sites created on my Macpro?

You shouldn't have any problems running the different versions on different Macs. Start your new website in iWeb '08 from a new domain.sites2 file. If you are publishing to .Mac, make sure your new site is named differently from the old so that the original doesn't get overwritten.

  • Just did an erase and install of Leopard is FCE 2 or iLife 08 or .Mac next?

I want to add to my fresh erase and install of Leopard 10.5 -- FCE 2, iLife 08 and .Mac and iWork 05 and Quicktime Pro.
Does it matter in what order these software programs are installed?
Also the 10.5 updates, is there a proper order to do this, or does it matter?

    No.
Install the applications and run Software Update.

  • Mac mini server install DVD - install on a different computer

I bought a Mac mini server (= a Mac mini with a Mac OS X Snow Leopard Server pre-installed) a while ago. I am planning to install Lion Server on the same Mac Mini and get rid of the Snow Leopard installation DVD. My question is, can the DVD that came with the Mac mini be used to install the server OS on a different computer (another Mac mini or iMac etc.)? or is it somehow tied to the original Mac mini?
    Thanks!

Install discs included with a Mac are only able to install on the same model Mac. However historically Mac OS X Server install discs are not limited in the same way. (Remember there is no such thing as a Lion install disc.)
The server install disc is more typically limited in being an older version of Mac OS X e.g. 10.6.3 and thus not able to boot and install on the latest model Macs. It is however possible to boot and install on an older Mac e.g. an older Mac mini but install on to an external hard disk which might even be the internal hard disk of another Mac connected via FireWire Target Disk Mode. You can then run the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Server Combo update to update it to the latest Snow Leopard Server version which will then boot successfully on all the current Macs including those that have only ever shipped with Lion.
Since a DVD disk takes very little space I would suggest you don't throw it away.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
iTunes in Mac OS X Tiger is outdated. Open  > Software Update to install the latest iTunes version for Tiger.
If you need iTunes 10.7 or a newer version, you have to upgrade to Mac OS X Snow Leopard. First, check that your Mac is supported > http://support.apple.com/kb/sp575 If it is, buy Snow Leopard > http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
After buying Snow Leopard, make a backup of your data, insert the DVD and upgrade to Snow Leopard. After upgrading, open  > Software Update, and install the latest Snow Leopard version. Finally, run Software Update again to install iTunes 11.0.4. If you want to install iTunes 10.7 instead, download it from the Apple website > http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1576

Perian 1.2.3 *should* work for both QuickTime & and QTX in Mountain Lion. Regardless of the filetype container, whether it is a Matroska (.mkv) or a .mov. As to the actual encoding of the file (h264, .mp2, whatever..) I have found most play, even older formats.
Even though it's no longer supported and is a dead project, it works just fine. It will load as a System Preference file and adds to the Other category in them.
I think in 10.8 you've still got support for QTX so it may work with that. (in Mavericks, it only works for QT7)
If not, just run QuickTime 7.6.6.

If no luck there, you could also try VLC at http://www.videolan.org

  • I have iLife 08 and i want to install iLife 11 in my Mac

In Need to install iLife 11 but i hace iLife 08 actually my question is, I need to install iLife 09 first???

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You do not need iLife '09 first. You only need to open the Mac App Store and purchase iPhoto '11, iMovie '11 and/or GarageBand '11, and the apps will be upgraded to the most recent version. If they show up as already installed, you need to remove them from the Applications folder first.
Also, before doing anything, make a backup of your files with Time Machine.
