Installing InDesign CS3 on Mac OS 10.9.5 Mavericks

Installation of InDesign CS3 on Mac OS 10.9.5 Mavericks
This question is Not Answered.

1. I have InDesign CS3, which I bought about 6 years ago, and installed on my MacBook Pro. I have now got a new Mac Pro running OS 10.9.5 Mavericks. When I bought the machine I asked Apple if I would be able to install my InDesign and they said there would be no problem. But it will not install. The intsllation fails every time near the end. It installs Bridge and one other components, both of which it calls shared components. But InDesign is not installed.
I went to the Adobe web site and looked up what to do. I got to a page that had my product on and it seemed to be telling make I must download an installer. When I clicked on this link, however I got a page with the following message:
HTTP ERROR: 404 /support/downloads/dlm/main.jsp
RequestURI=/support/downloads/dlm/main.jsp
I do not know what to do now.
2. If I do download an installer (I did not need to do this when I first installed the programme on my lap top MacBook Pro 6 years ago, but just installed it from the disc), how do I get rid of the downloader afterwards, since I read somewhere, but cannot remember where, that I should get rid of the installer afterwards but that I should not put it in the trash bin?
Thank you for any help you can give me.
Stephen Perks

Many thanks for your help. I will try this. After posting this question yesterday I contacted Adobe and was astonished to find that they do not sell InDesign and do not support it and that one can only upgrade to monthly or yearly rental of CreativeCloud. I'm afraid for me this is nonsense, and I consider it very bad practice on Adobe's part. I will have to go to QuarkExpress instead if I cannot install Indesign CS3, which I nearly did do 6 years ago, but after reading such good reviews of InDesign and got it. I wish now I'd got Quark! I appreciate your help.

  • Printing problems with InDesign CS3 with Mac OS 10.6.3

I am not new to InDesign... I have CS3... but I am brand new to Mac Snow Leopard (OS 10.6.3).  Although I can open CS3 and use the application, I cannot print with it.  None of my other applications has printing issues... just CS3.  Any suggestions?

    Hi again Peter
It is version 5.0.4.  I updated it when I newly installed it a week ago in my new computer, and then again updated it just yesterday.
I might mention that before I got my new computer, I was running Mac OS 4.11, and was using InDesign 3.0.  I had bought InDesign CS3 about a year ago, but hadn't gotten around to using it since version 3.0 had been working fine, and I was used to it.  Then, when I got my new computer, I decided it was time to use the newer version.  However, while using InDesign 3.0 with the old Mac OS 4.11, a printing problem popped up there, too, a few months ago... and it also involved printing problems with Adobe Reader.  I contacted Adobe, and they sent me a patch which fixed it.  I will contact Adobe again if need be, although I thought I'd start here first to see if it was a common enough problem that someone might be able to provide a free and routine answer.

I neglected to ask what version of indesign CS3 you are using. I also
notice that Mac OSX 10.6.4 has just been released. It actually
addresses some CS3-specific issues, though they seem to be related to
launching the apps, not printing. It may be worth trying to update,
    nonetheless.

  • Error Installing InDesign CS3 Server on Windows Server 2008 R2 64BIT

    Hello there-
I'm trying to install InDesign CS3 Server on Windows Server 2008 R2 64BIT (x64) Edition, however, we get a failure indication on the installer. Before, we have installed it properly on Windows Server 2008 R2 32BIT (x32) but some how we cannot proceed on a x64 box.
Is there any limitation on this sense? Any documentation about it?
    Thanks and appreciate your answers.

    Hello,
Have you followed these recommendations from the installation guide ( Installation Guide u2013 SAP Content Server on Windows 2008 ) :

Please make sure all the below roles are included and IIS 7.0/7.5 is installed.

Note: There is a File Upload limitation in IIS 7 on Windows 2008 Server, IIS will reject any file that is
larger than 30 MB. This is a default limitation of IIS. You can increase the maximum file size by
setting the parameter maxAllowedContentLength in the file ApplicationHost.config.
The following command can be used to set the parameter from the command prompt, please
change the directory to Windows\System32\inetserv and then execute the command.
    appcmd setconfig /section:requestFiltering/requestLimits.maxAllowedContentLength:150000000
The value is only an example, in this case the upload limit is set to 150MB.Server has to be restarted
    after execution of this command.
Also, are you using Maxdb to store the files or is it a "flat files" content server  ?
    HTH.
    Steve.

    Hi Dale,
You can follow the article: System requirements | InDesign to check whether CS3 products can work on InDesign CS3.
Also please let me know what error message you are getting while re installing InDesign.

  • Error message when installing Indesign CS3 trial. I need help ASAP

I have searched the forums and adobe.com and have tried everything that I saw. None of it worked for me. I have tried and tried to install Indesign CS3 trial. I keep getting the error message: Indesign has encountered a problem and must close.
I have windows XP and plenty of RAM. What can the problem be? I have done everything I can think of to do. I added more memory and did everything the forums said to try. I really need this for my class. I am getting behind. I cannot afford to buy the program. Please help!!!!!
    Thank you,
    Teddy

If you scroll down you'll see there's Windows info there, too. Aside from being sure the fonts are activated, you might try renaming the Sing folder, which should be in Program Files\Common\Adobe.
You could also try Help > Configure Plugins and disable the Sing.apln, but I don't know how you can get there if the program won't start. Maybe going to the Adobe InDesign CS3\Plug-Ins\Text folder and changing the name from SING.apln to SING.bak would do the trick.
If it's really the SING problem, that ought to fix it, but you won't be able to work with Oriental languages.

  • Cannot install InDesign on my MAC book pro

New to Mac, so when I put in the cd, the Adobe folder appearson my desktop, I click on it and select install Adobe InDesign, it opens FTP Client Ultimate to install and of course says cannot install, wrong program.. So I tell it to use Automator, it says cannot install corrupt file, new disk, opened the seal myself. Can anyone shed any light on this?
this is where I miss windows..
    OS 10.8.5 8gig memory.

InDesign 2.0 was released in January 2002. Any version of Macintosh which can run Mac OS X 10.8.5 would NOT be able to install InDesign 2.0. It was created before the Mac was using Intel processors, and cannot run on any current Mac.

  • Can't install InDesign CS3

I keep getting the following error when I attempt to install my InDesign CS3
    "codec overrun"
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

Kim, if you downloaded the installer and see this error message, the installer might be corrupt from the transfer. You might try downloading it again or try installing from a disk.

  • Cannot install Dreamweaver CS3 on Mac

    I have a MacBook, OS X 10.5.8.  Processor:  2.4Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo  Memory:  2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM.
I am trying to install Dreamweaver CS3 on my Mac and have had no luck.   There is no "Setup" as specified in the help I've found.   There is Setup.exe, but that just opens in TextEdit.   I've tried snooping on the disc but have found nothing that will execute.
How on earth do I install this software???
    Thank you!
    Paula

Well if you recently bought it try returning it or stop payment on your credit card.  All discs from Adobe recently (going back probably to CS2) carry one version or the other.  And given that you just got CS3 tells me the version was purchased off of Ebay, Craigslist or some other form of reselling because all commercial sales channels will be selling only CS4 at this point in time.

  • Problems installing InDesign CS3 updaters on Mavericks OS

After getting a new hard drive installed on my MacBook Pro and getting Mavericks OS, I had to reinstall InDesign CS3. I re-installed CS3 with my original DVD and downloaded the most current updater - 5.0.4 associated with InDesign. This updater when installing, is behaving weird. It is taking an unusally long time and not finishing the download process at all. InDesign also does not want to open any of my files.
Any ideas on what is going on? I am not yet ready to upgrade to Adobe CC.
    Thanks in advance!

I have just been through this loop and, like you, don't want to use CC.
The updater hung repeatedly, but after I'd killed it, I appear to have a working v 5.0.4, although I've not tested it in anger yet. The only issue so far is that the updater crashes unfailingly on launch. However, as 5.0.4 is the last version, this is just an irritation.
Does anyone know how to kill the updater for good?

  • Booklet issues with InDesign CS3 on Mac, and Xerox WorkCentre 7655 booklet maker

I'm having several booklet making issues I'm hoping someone can help me with.
I am on a MacPro, OS X Leopard, InDesign CS3. We have a Xerox WorkCentre 7655 that has booklet making capability. The network server is a PC with Microsoft 2003 server on it.
The booklet I am making uses two 11x17 trays - one for cover stock for the cover and one for regular 24 lb paper for the insides. The layout is single pages rather than spreads - spreads did not work at all.
From InDesign using the printer, the cover pages come out backwards and mirror image. The inside pages are upside down and on only half the page. I did not not InDesign file/booklet because that seemed to create even more problems with the Xerox booklet settings, and I don't know how to try InDesign booklet and not the Xerox settings.
I tried making a pdf and printing booklets from that. On the Macintosh, I can't figure out how to tell it the pages are 11x17 so it keeps giving me an error that the printer is waiting for 8 1/2 x 11.
I actually did get the booklets to print properly using the pdf file and a PC, but any gray graphics came out lilac. The text was black, and the covers were the correct colors - only the inside graphics were the wrong color.
I hope this makes some sense - I really need help. I've tried everything I can think of. I spent a lot of time with Xerox 1st and 2nd level support, and they have washed their hands of this. So I'm posting here hoping someone has some ideas.
Any other information anyone might need for this issue? Thanks so much.

I have a similar machine configuration and have had many issues printing to an HP 9500mfp. Pages rotate, mirror, 2-sided both print on same side. I've lost the "bookletmake" function. Jobs will not recognize paper trays (meaning I have to manually tell it which paper tray holds the tabloid stock). I've tried using the "Page Setup" dialog box to no avail. On occasion, I can get some of the features to work with a pdf printing from Acrobat. Sometimes, that doesn't work either - never with any kind of predictability. Printing to the HP 4700 is more reliable. I've downloaded the updated "Leopard" compatible driver from HP, but it fixed no issues. When I tried contacting tech support for HP, the replied that this is an OS issues and not with equipment, leaving me SOL.

  • .indd files not opening with recently installed Indesign CS3

The .indd files don't have the Indesign icon next to them, instead they have the win32 icon. When I double click on one of the files an error message appears telling me that...
"this file is not a valid win32 application"
Even when I right-click on the file and choose to open with Indesign, it tells me the same thing. Also in this options menu, Indesign is not shown with the Indesign logo next to it, but rather the windows generic 'unknown file type' logo.
If I open Indesign first however, and then choose file>open and choose the file. It opens fine.

Exactly my situation yesterday, with the icon disappearing and INDD files not opening within InDesign from Explorer.
I'm using an early XP Pro, which I guess qualifies it as 32 bit.
The steps to rebuilding everything using the Folder Options in Windows Explorer are:
Tools > Folder Options > File Types
If INDD is not listed, click the New button to creat an entry, otherwise select it and click the Advanced button.
You have an option to change the icon, so navigate to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS3 and select the InDesign icon.
Then under actions you need to create four actions that will relate to the context menu choices when you right click an INDD files, so click New and add actions for edit, open, preview and print.
In the Application used to perform action box enter "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS3\InDesign.exe" "%1"
Those quote marks are important. Just browsing to InDesign.exe will fill the box for you, but for some reason - for me at least - it creates the %1 indicating to open the file you selected, but it doesn't wrap it in quotes. And without those quotes (at least on my machine) InDesign will start but won't load the file.
There is also a check box to use DDE. I don't know what's appropriate here, but I ticked the box and it works OK.
