Installing InDesign CS4 on new Mac computer

I just purchased a new Mac computer with the OS X 10.9 software. I'm trying redownload my InDesign CS4 from the adobe site and it's not letting me download the program? Any suggestions?

CS4 would definitely not be supported in 10.9, but it may work. The user will be on their own because it's an older, untested version.

I have a new (mac) computer and I have installed photoshop on my laptop. I would like to transfer this to my computer. Is this possible?

Simply install it like on your laptop. If you have specific issues, you need to explain better and at least provide some proper technical info liek system specs.

  • Problem installing CS4 onto new Mac OS X

    Can someone please help me?!
I have just tried to install my Photoshop CS4 Extended onto my brand spankin' new Mac computer and when I tried to open the application this message comes up:
"You can't open the application 'Adobe Photoshop SC4' because it is not supported on this architecture". What exactly does this mean?
I have the latest IMac so I don't see why this would be a problem.

    Hi Cherry!
Usually this happens, when Photoshop CS4 was not successfully installed.
    Reinstall it.
If the option to install Photoshop CS4 is not available, de-install it first. Either use the installer or manually remove the Adobe Photoshop CS4 folder.

The license is only good for Windows and is too old to qualify for a platform swap.  The only option you might have is to install Windows emulation software on the Mac and install CS4 thru that.

  • Unable to install InDesign CS4

I'm the It person that has to install software for my users and here's today's headscratcher.  My user has InDesign CS2 installed and working on his XP computer.  I try to install InDesign CS4 upgrade and the installer says it can't find the previous version in the standard location.  It's there, I checked.  Anyway, I offer it the serial number that I got off Adobe's own licensing website.  The installer says nope not a valid serial number.  Remember this came from Adobe's own website, but whatever.  I install the demo version, try to license it and it still can't find the working CS2 installation and won't take the CS2 serial number.
So tell me how am I suppose to get CS4 Upgrade to install in this scenerio?

    First -- don't even ask.
All the answers are YES.  I have adequate hardware.  Brand new MacBookPro.  Lots of RAM, hard drive space. fast Intel Core Duo.
Have spent the equivalent of, I think, 143 weeks talking to Adobe (a) tech support and (b) customer support folks who all say and do the same thing:
    1) Send canned, prepacked responses that ignore your original message
    2) Act surprised to learn that the InDesign installer STILL HANGS UP WHILE "CHECKING SYSTEM PROFILE...."
    3) Recommend all kinds of bizarre, ridiculous solutions --- implying it's probably the customer's fauilt.
    4) Don't speak good English
    5) Never  check back to see if the problem is solved or the customer has decided to throw himself (and his adobe software) off a cliff
Personal judgments are totally unfair, of course.   But in the spirit of unfairness, what Adobe provides is  Adobe's unspeakable indefensible handling of this situation in specific -- and customer service in general.
Its customer base is riddled with customers who've paid for and received a NONWORKING product.  A defective product. Period.  If this were a prescription drug or a car, the govt would have ordered recalls by now.
Adobe's labrynthine, convoluted recommended "fixes"  (delete and reinstall all your Adobe products....reinstall your system software .... go stand in the rain and burn incense .... whatever) is like Ford Motor telling the customer:  "Yes, we admit the defect.  But, hey, at least we feel bad about it. Why don't you try selling your car and buying a new one."
Am a syndicated newspaper columnist.  Have already got the draft of a very funny 700-word commentary to distribute about this.  Adobe will hate it. But I'm sure we'll both get over it.
    Eeegads.
    Dear Adobe:
For the record, only  SOME of the people with the Install/Setup issue (installer freezes at about 90% while checking system profiler) have inadequate hardware. Most have adequate hardware.  We've all  read the bulletins and bulletin boards. So has Adobe.  We know it; Adobe knows it.  Adobe knows it because ALL OF US HAVE SPENT HOURS ON THE PHONE WITH ADOBE ONLY TO CONFIRM THAT (A) OUR HARDWARE IS MORE THAN ADEQUATE AND (B) THEY HAVEN'T A CLUE WHAT WE SHOULD DO.
This is one the largest software makers in the world.  They have enough programmers and engineers on their janitorial staff to fix this...make the nightmare go away.  How?  Produce a NEW installer that is not affected by whatever it is that is affecting the current one!  (I'm a genius, right?)  Or a two-part installer that first scans and fixes the obstacle, THEN installs InDesign. (I'm also flexible)
Adobe's failure to do this -- more than eight months after being made  aware of the problem -- is not one of this company's finer moments.

The simple fix is to read the system requirements before buying software. While some users have gotten CS4 to run, the G4 does not meet the system requirements for InDesign CS4.
You should also take note that Adobe has already announced that future versions will be Intel only.
It's time to consider new hardware.

  • Re installing Photoshop CS4 on an upgraded computer and it will not accept serial number

Re installing Photoshop CS4 on an upgraded computer and it will not accept the serial number. Unable to deactivate Photoshop before upgrading computer due to hardware failure. Note that Adobe Photoshop CS4 New Install Bundle package consists of the new Photoshop CS4 Upgrade bundled together with the qualifying product, in this case an Adobe Photoshop CS2 License. I have tried both the CS2 and CS4 Serial numbers and both have not worked.

  • Serial # not accepted when I'm trying to install LR5 on my new Mac

I have LR 5 installed on a a PC. When I try to install LR on my new Mac my "old" serial # isn't accepted.
Will the serial # be accepted if I uninstall LR from my old computer perhaps?
Or will I have to buy a new license?

Did you get this serial number from Adobe or an authorized Adobe reseller or did you get it from Amazon or somewhere else where the origin is not clear?  I ask this because sometimes serial numbers can be stolen and Adobe doesn't know for a while, but eventually they black-list them in newer versions of the software.
Is this a situation where you purchased an upgrade and aren't entering the previous version's serial number?
Is the bad serial number indicated immediately upon typing the last digit with a red X instead of a green checkmark next to where the serial number is entered, or is the serial number indicated as bad after you log into Adobe during the install and registration process?
Did this serial number come from a download or from a box?  Maybe one of these types of purchases only allows activating on a single platform.  Maybe you'll need to chat with Adobe about it, via the Chat links on their support pages.

  • Installing CS6 on my new Mac

I had CS6 on my windows computer and did not deactivate it before uninstalling.  I am now having difficulty installing it on my new Mac.  Can you advise me please what I need to do?
    Thanks

You are allowed to have the software installed and activated on two machines, but those two machines need to be using the same platform (PC vs Mac) for Creative Suite software.  If your software is the PC version then it will not install on a Mac.  You will need to cross-grade the platform version - and since you are dealing with CS6, it is possible (not for earlier versions). To do that see the instructions on the following linked page...
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/order-product-platform-language-swap.htm l
You should get the PC installation deactivated.  To do that you need to contact Adobe Support either by chat or via phone -  they can take care of it.

Migration should never be done with any Adobe program.
If you have done Migration, you have to UNINSTALL first (if even possible) and then download Adobe Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool and run that also. When this is done, restart your computer and install the programs from an original Adobe Installer.
Other question is, if your OS is supporting that version. You can try it, it is not officially supported, but it might work.
But CC will work, upgrade to CC2014 (without additional cost), use that as it is better anyway.

  • How can I install Appleworks on a new Mac?

I've been using Macs since 1993, and have a lot of old files in Appleworks format. Whilst I now use Office and iWork '08, I'd be lost without Appleworks for many old files. Is it possible to install Appleworks on a new Mac, running Leopard? I hope to replace my laptop soon, but the fact its been discontinued has put my off for now. Any help gratefully received!

You can install AppleWorks 6.2.4 or AppleWorks 6.2.9 on your new Mac, using an install disk that has an OS X installer. (Installers prior to mid 2001 ran in Mac OS 9, and although the version of AppleWorks they install will likely run on Tiger or Leopard, the installer won't.)
Getting hold of a retail version may prove a bit difficult, as Apple is no longer supplying it to retailers. Hard Core Mac was reported recently to have install disks containing AppleWorks 6.2.4, and AW 6 does come up occassionally on eBay and other similar sites.
If the laptop you are replacing contains AppleWorks, you can transfer the application to your new machine by simply moving the whole AppleWorks 6 folder and its contents into the Applications folder on the new machine. Doing this via a CD will give you a backup copy should you ever need to reinstall the application. AppleWorks will create any other required files and folders as it needs them. Note that the usual single user licence allows for only a single copy of the application to exist on a single computer at a time. After moving the AW 6 folder to the new machine, you should delete it from the old to stay within the terms of the licence.
    Regards,
    Barry
