Installing Intel 330 SSD in Mini 311c / Windows XP

I've recently installed a 120GB Intel 330 series SSD into my old Mini 311c-1101SA running Windows XP. I believe the motherboard has a Nvidia 730i chipset (GFX card is Nvidia ION LE).
Installation went fine and everything is up and running. I aligned the drive using the Norton Alignment tool.
However, drive performance is less than stellar. Driver benchmarks indicate a read speed of 127MB/s and write speed of 104MB/s. Furthermore, the Intel SSD Toolbox says it "cannot communicate with the drive" and that I need to update the storage driver.
Is this something I can sort out? Are there suitable drivers that I can slipstream into a new XP installation? Would upgrading to Windows 7 improve matters?

Hi , i got the same problem and that's what i did:
clicking the rigth buttom on the install .exe and extract it to a folder with winzip
After this go to the folder you've unzipped the install pack and double-click on setup.exe
It will ask the profile you want to install the product with and after choosing it , the installfield should start.
I hope this helps you : Anita

  • Intel 330 ssd in 2008 MBP Unibody

My old hitachi HDD went on the fritz and I obviously don't want to replace the corrupt hard drive with another hitachi HDD. I'm looking for an SSD to install. I don't need a huge drive because my data's in the cloud for storage so I'm looking at the SSD.
I would like to purchase the intel 330 120gb SSD. Here are my basic specs:
    MBP late 2008 unibody
    2.8ghz processor
    4gb ram
    NVIDIA 9600
250gb Hitachi 2.5" HDD (this is the original corrupt drive I want to replace)
-How does TRIM work on the mac? Will I have TRIM issues with the intel 330? How do I go about this?
-Has anyone had any 1.5gb negotiation rate issues? How did you resolve them?
-Any other installation issues I should be aware of and workarounds for them?
    Thank you, appreciate your help!

    Hi TigerJessB
I have an Intel 330 SSD 180Gb in my mid-2009 Mbp Unibody (Cord 2 Duo 2,26Ghz, 8Gb Ram, Nvidia 9600) and it works fine. Support of trim is ok after using "Trim enabler" software from www.groths.org/?page_id=322.
    Best regards

  • SSD Comaq mini 311c

    Hello i have a compaq mini 311c
and i have a new ssd form kingston  but the laptop do not recognize the hdd all the time.
sometimes i can install windows and sometimes i get the error no hd.
is there a solution for this problem?
    Gr.Jasper

Many times a laptop overheating is directly related to the cooling of the processor. The main culprit is the fan. The fan sucks in air from the bottom and blows it out the side. It will also suck in hair, dust, and other debris. That stuff often gets trapped by the heat sink and over time builds up in a layer which chokes off the cool air going to the processor making the fan work harder.
    Check this out:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01657439&tmp_track_link=ot_faqs/top_issues/en_u...
What I recommend is getting some canned air and blowing out the vents in the side and bottom of the laptop. If after doing this you still have problems with over-heating, and your laptop is in warranty, you can take your laptop to a HP Authorized Service Center and ask them to clean the fan and heatsink. You can check your warranty here:
    http://www13.itrc.hp.com/service/ewarranty/warrantyResults.do?admit=109447627+1286541891570+28353475
If it is out of warranty, consider searching for the maintenance manual for your specific model, in the manual there are schematics for taking apart the laptop. Cleaning the fan is much easier that removing a motherboard, so don't feel to intimidated by the idea. Also you can remove the heatsink and then remove the thermal grease and apply a new layer which also helps alleviate heat related issues.

  • Can't install Intel Control Center (former MSM) in Windows Server 2008 R2

I'm running WS2008 R2 with SP1. Everything is great but I need to add monitoring of my RAID1 system volume. It's installed on onboard Intel chip. Latest driver installed succesfully but Intel Control Center asks for .NET 3. How do I install it? It's not
    available in Windows Update.
    Thank you.

    Hi,
According to the following link, there is no version of Intel Desktop Control Center for Windows Server 2008 directly.
    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?keyword=%22%22desktop+control+center%22%22
Please Note: The third-party product discussed here is manufactured by a company that is independent of Microsoft. We make no warranty, implied or otherwise, regarding
    this product's performance or reliability.
If you can confirm the required version of .NET Framework is installed properly, you need to contact the Intel support for further assistance.
Just for your reference, here is where to download the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 Redistributable Package:
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=10cc340b-f857-4a14-83f5-25634c3bf043
Actually, .NET Framework 3.5 builds incrementally on the new features added in .NET Framework 3.0.
    Thanks.

  • Satellite A210-133: How to install Intel or via usb controller on windows 7

    Hello!
I have a toshiba satellite a210-133 which i have upgrade it to windows 7 32 bit version.
Everything have been installed fine, but i have an intraoral machine which is connected with usb and it does not work properly.
I have questioned the manifacture of the machine and they told me that it wants Intel or VIA USB controller to work properly.
so i look at my computer\manage and i saw that
i have not have this controller.
Can you help me about it??

    Hi mate
To be honest Im not quite sure what USB controller you mean exactly.
The notebook supports common USB 2.0 ports.
The Win 7 provides own Microsoft USB drivers which controls this USB 2.0 ports.
If the USB ports dont work correctly, then you should check if you need to install the chipset driver.
Usually such chipset driver can be found on chipset manufacturer page.
As far as I know the notebook uses the AMD M690V chipset (code name RS690MC + SB600)
    So check this.
Furthermore many 3rd party USB devices needs an own driver.
I dont know if you intraoral machine needs such drivers but I think that the manufacturer of this machine should know this. So if you need such driver, please get in contact with the intraoral machine manufacturer to get such software.

  • Slow Boot U410 after installing intel 128gb ssd

    Hello everyone.
I have a weird issue. I have removed the 750gb drive and replaced it with a 128gb ssd. Because lenovo doesn't give you a disk with your OS I had to downgrade to Windows 7 (Not a big deal). First off my mSata drive has completely disappeared from the OS and the BIOS. My PC is very fast once the OS boots however Booting takes a significantly long time. I enables boot information at startup and the last thing that is displayed before the long wait is:
    Loaded driver \SystemRoot\system32\drivers\CLASSPNP.SYS
Which I would assume the next driver is what is starting the long wait process which is:

My BIOS is set to AHCI. When set to RAID it freezes. Any insite would be greatly appreciated.

    hi seanrsolutions,
    Welcome to the Forums.
Upon digging around, a similar issue was raised in this microsoft thread.
It seems like that classpnp.sys is a plug and play device driver which checks and initializes hardware components when the OS loads up and  It's possible that this is connected to the missing mSATA drive.
    Try the following:
    1. Physically remove the mSATA drive
    2. When done, boot into the BIOS, press Fn+F9 to reset default settings and press Fn+F10 to save and exit. Let Windows boot normally and observe.
If you get the same issue, try to:
    3. Insert the Win7 installation disc and Perform an Offline System Integrity Verification
    4. If same problem, perform a Windows 7 Repair install.
    Let me know your findings

Getting the "beach ball" freezes, when switched to Intel 330 120gb SSD in my blackbook (2006, C2D, 10.6.8).
But switching to Crucial M4 SSD, everything is just fine & great~
    Any genius, know why?
Do I need to enable TRIM for Intel 330 SSD (Sandforce)?
    THX for help!!
    Info:
    MacBook (Black, 2006, C2D, GMA950, 4gb Ram, OSX 10.6.8)
-Both tried clone OS & clean install OS

I just installed a 120 GB 330-series Intel SSD in my late-2008 aluminum MacBook and I have experienced the beachball problem on a fresh install of Lion and a fresh install of Mountain Lion. I never saw this behavior with my old Western Digital 500 GB HDD. Does anyone have any suggestions about how to avoid the "freezes" associated with the 330-series SSDs?

  • IMac 2011 + Intel 510 SSD Performance

Yesterday I installed Intel`s SSD 510 (120GB) in my iMac 2011 27 inch (along with a 2TB WD Caviar black)
Today I did some testing and the results are somehow disappointing.
It would be great if other owners of Intel`s 510 can post some benchmark results! Here is mine:
    Tested with AJA:
    Write: 131,3
    Read: 174,4
    720x486 8-bit and 128mb file size
    The 510 in system profiler:
    Finally: xbench
The results should be WAY higher!?
Does anybody have a hint what I did wrong?

How did you manage to get the SSD and the 2TB drive in your new Imac? OWC said you couldn't update those internal parts. I am too looking to get an Imac 27" but I want to add my own SSD and 2TB drive similar to what you did. did you buy the imac with this set up already from apple? do you have to get the SSD/Harddrive combo from apple to have the parts needed for the replacement? thanks in advance.

    Go to Solution.

Hi guys. I don't think that will ever work. Only the new systems (Huron River-based) coming out this year will support the mSATA 80GB SodaCreek drives.
The planar has to have a special line run from mini-PCIe to SATA for this drive to be recognized/bootable - so older planars like X201 are just not compatible. I know the planars in all the coming ThinkPad Classic (T,W, and X) will support it and the new Edge E220s & E420s will. But I am not sure if the lower cost systems like regular Edge 14/15, L/SL-series, or X120e will support it or not.

  • Will my Bootcamp Windows Install Remain after SSD Install

I currently have a i5 Mac Mini 5.1 with the standard 500gb hard drive installed. Presently the drive is split as 340gb for OSX and 160gb for Windows 8.1 running under Bootcamp. My plan is to install a 250gb SSD in addition to the original 500gb HDD onto which I will clone over my current OSX install, then format the 340gb partition onto which I will then move over my home folder and files whilst keeping the SSD for OSX and applications for optimum performance. My plan is to leave the Bootcamp partition as it is.
My question is will the 160gb Windows 8.1 Bootcamp partition still work or will I have to wipe that partition and start again by re-bootcamping my mac?
Any help and advice is greatly appreciated.
    John

    Hi Bobthefisherman
Thanks for the reply. That's a real pain having to have them on the same drive as I was hoping to keep the SSD purely for OSX and its applications.
    Thanks

You need to purchase the upgrade disk (it is a DVD). Then just put it in and run the installer. When it was first released it was $29 USD, do not know if the price has changed or not.
The usual precautions about backing up your data apply. In fact I would recommend either making a Disk Image of your current boot drive or using something like Carbon Copy Cloner to copy it to an external drive. I upgraded 5 machines from Leopard to Snow Leopard without any issues, but better to be safe than sorry.

Guys, I been in the business working on PC and MAC for years. So I am not green at this, I was looking for some kind of option to get past the boot loader..  Which is failing.
I know how to boot into these modes.. Done tons of research before posting and couldn't find anything.
It will not go into  Internet Recovery, or any thing else.  I hear the sound .. then that is it.. I get nothing else..
I have tried clearing the NVRAM which is Option + Command + P + R
    Still nothing..
So I thought I would try here to see if maybe there was some trick out there someone might know of that would work.
What else guys?  I am hitting th keys right..

  • What are the software issues with installing a 2nd SSD on my mac mini (Late 2012?)

    Hi Everyone,
I've just bought a brand new Mac Mini server - 2.6GHz, with a 256GB SSD.
I have also bought a 512GB SSD from Crucial, along with a Dual Drive Install Kit from OWC, and will probably be installing it myself.
I've read a lot of info on various forums/websites that is a little concerning.....regarding data loss when you reboot the Mac having installed the new SSD (not sure if this just applies to adding the SSD to a system that contains a 'normal' HDD.....)
If I'm going to have 2 SSDs in my system, I guess there are 2 questions:
    1. Can I just add the new 512GB SSD without any reboot issues
    2. Is it important to keep the system SSD physically where it is, i.e. at the bottom of the Mac (and plugged into the same connection on the logicboard?)
Thanks in advance for any help!

Thank you so much John and woodmeister50, most helpful
Just one more thing - the crucial drive came with a data transfer cable (SATA to USB) - I haven't got my dual drive install kit through the post yet...so do you foresee any problems with me installing the software that I will be using on the 512GB drive, in preparation for it being internally installed - is that possible to do with this cable?
    Thanks again people!

  • Unable to use Intel 530 SSD with M5400

    Hello!
I finally decided to write over here, after reading and viewing a lot of forums lately on this subject.
    Context:
I have an Lenovo M5400 (but don't think this is definitory to the problem, as I've seen that the same simptoms seem to exist to other lenovo models as well) with the SSHD drive. I bought an Intel 530 SSD (don't think the brand mathers either) and wanted to replace the SSHD with it.
Upon replacing the original drive with the SSD, in order to make a clean windows install, the Windows 8 installer is unable to correctly detect my drive.
The drive is visible in the BIOS (at times?!) and seems to interfere somehow with the booting process, as sometimes, the boot stucks with a blank screen and the green light of the drive is on permanently. (this doesn't happen all the time).
    What I tried:
    1) At first, I had the drive unitialized: no GPT or MBR, no partitions on it. I tried to install it as such, but failed. It was not visible to the Windows installer, only in BIOS, in the boot order, I could see it. This was done in BIOS legacy mode.
    2) I tried loading drivers in the Windows installer, via the "Load driver" option, when you get the message "W couldn't find any drives" or something like that. That was unsuccessful with the following: a) lenovo ahci drivers, from the online driver store, b) my previous windows drivers, which I took on a USB stick, c) some drivers from intel site.
    3) At this point, the Intel firmware update bootable tool was not seeing my drive either.
    4) I then initialized my drive by connecting it via a SATA-to-USB cable to my computer and repeated step 2), with no success still. I initialized it as MBR but I doubt that initializing it as GPT would have made a diffrence. I tried both with creating a primary and active partition and with leaving the drive initialized with all the space unallocated. No success.
    5) I tried to update lenovo BIOS, because I suspect it's the cause of the problem, but was unable to do so. Downloaded the bios utility but it gives me an error "Bios folder ... ". With the bootable bios cd, it doesn't work: it doesn't boot. Has anyone managed to flash a newer bios? There is one posted on 09/30/2013 on the site, and my current one is 09/26/2013, as shown in BIOS.
    6) I then fiddled with various BIOS modes: uefi, legacy, both with priority, but with no success.
At one point, I managed to see the drive in the windows installer, it was in UEFI mode only, with WIn 8 Optimized defaults ( I think) but I feared that it was just a single happening and didn't do anything, instead tried to see which settings worked in order to be able to reproduce this. I completly lost my chance, as after that, I didn't see the drive again in the windows installer. When it worked, I didn't have to load any driver. It saw it as MBR and prompted to format is as GPT, in order to use with UEFI booting.
    The things I noticed:
On some occasions, in the bios boot order menu, the drive is identified as an Intel ssd, and on others just as an generic ATA HDD. I think there is a bad link between those two. When I reboot, restart, on some occasions I see it as the Intel drive and on others as the generic one. I think that in the case of generic drive, the windows installer has no chance on recognizing it.
When it is seen in the bios though, I get all sort of problems when trying to boot a CD or USB, as it seems to ignore them and get stuck in the boot process. I think that in this situations it correctly detects the SSD, if I were to look in the BIOS. But when I try to boot the CD or the USB in these situations, it just stucks with the green drive light permanently on, and with the CPU working on something ( I hear the fans starting) and the boot stops here indefinetly. I have to restart, and then, depending on the case, I get the same results, or I can boot the CD but don't find the drive.
I don't know by what chance I managed to "capture" it once in the windows installer but think this should be the common case.
After all these, what I suspect is that the Lenovo BIOS is broken somehow. It messes up with the boot order, because although I have priority for the DVD, the boot gets stuck on trying to do something with the SSD, as described above.
I am in the situation of returning the SSD back to the shop, as it is unusable with the current Lenovo m5400 motherboard/bios or whatever other hardware interferes with making it properly work ( ahci controller?).
I am very upset by this, and have seen that on these very boards, there are other posts as well, not on this model, but on other lenovo models, with the same scenarios and simptopms as mine, which didn't get any solution.
So, is there an answer to my problem? To update the BIOS? How to make the BIOS to not mess up with the boot order and get stuck? I tried all the possible combinations with no success and it's really frustrating.
    Another update:
A lot of people seem to be having problem with the particular Intel 530 SSD. So this issue may not be related only to the motherboard/bios. I will post links to the corresponding threads from the intel boards:

    https://communities.intel.com/thread/52959

Does anyone have any idea or hint if using other software for initializing the SSD than Computer Management/diskpart is of any help? Like EASUS partition manager or Gparted? Maybe the disk isn't partitioned correctly.
The disk isn't detected as an Intel SSD with the SATA-to-USB cable, instead being masked by it. Maybe this is another problem?

Hello! I have the same problem as you.
I tried  to connect OCZ Vertex 2 60GBSSD but I failed. It has the same conntroller SandForce but the older generation.
    Maybe that's the problem?
I was unable to install it on Windows 8.1, when I switched to the BIOS to ACHI mode Capability mode. But later he again loaded with it, then the BIOS will not see it to be.
I think the problem in the BIOS! I have 2.03 the latest.
