Installing iPhoto update
When installing iPhoto 6.0.1 update I get a big red shout on my hard disk icon and the message “You cannot install iPhoto Update 6.0.1 on this volume. an eligible iPhoto application was not found in the location / Applications/iPhoto.app.” I know I have iPhoto app.
what am I doing wrong?

You are right John. I have iPhoto 5.0.4. They don’t make it easy for you. I suppose that is the reason the download was not in the free Apple Software Update menu.

When installing iPhoto 9.2.1 software update, I got this pop up.
"The system extension “/System/Library/Extensions/IOFireWireWDHID.kext” was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it, or contact the product’s vendor for an update."
Is this a minor matter that can be ignored? Any suggestions on what I should do?The faster (and way more recommended) way to do this is to run a permissions repair from disk utility.
Open Applications -> Utilities -> Disk Utility -> Click on Macintosh HD -> then in the right pane there is a "Repair Disk Permissions" button click on this. It should repair all permissions to their proper settings.
Another option is to manually repair them on this kext only. This involves opening Terminal and running the following commands.
sudo chown -R 0:0 /System/Library/Extensions/IOFireWireWDHID.kext
sudo chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/IOFireWireWDHID.kext
Otherwise if you don't have any firewire devices it doesn't really matter. -
Iphoto wont install the update from the App store
I installed Yosemite on my imac mid 2010. Went to the iphoto which stated I needed to update. When I went to updates it was showing no updates needed. I then even found iphoto and pressed install and now it seems to just freeze on the install as it just keeps showing installing. Any help?

I have iPhoto 9.1.5 which was installed on my iMac that I received November, 2011.
My wife has the 9.2.1 version of iPhoto on her MacBook Pro which she bought months before I bought my iMac.
My iPhoto library opens fine in 9.1.5 on my iMac but will not open the copy of her iPhoto library that I copied to my iMac. We have two libraries and I want the same one she has instead of two separate libraries.
I went to the Mac App Store and downloaded iPhoto9.2.1 Update.dmg to my desktop.
I then opened the .dmg and clicked on the iPhoto9.2.1Update.pkg.
The install iPhoto Update window started to open briefly before the Alert message "The version of iPhoto installed on this Mac must be updated through the Mac App Store. Check the Mac App Store to see if an update is available" appeared.
I checked the MAS and found this link and this is what I downloaded: http://support.apple.com/downloads#iPhoto%209.2.1

Hi. I just converted to a new powermac G5 and started using iphoto.
I tried upgrading iphoto 5 to iphoto 6 but during the install when I'm asked to
"Select a destination volume to install the iphoto Update 6.0.2 software." I get a red stop sign when I click on the icon "Macintosh HD 233GB (219GB free)". It states "you can not install iphoto Update 6.0.2 on this volume. an eligible iphoto application was not found in the loction /Applications/iphoto.app".
I've read on here that I need ilife 6 but I thought this new computer (purchased oct/05) had it already on. Do I need to purchase it or is there something else I need to do on the install.

Can't install iphoto 6.0.3!! help
Hi, I hope someone can help me. I have a imac G4 256 MB w/ OX 10.4.6. I am still running iphoto 2 (what the computer came with) Now I finally want to upgrade to iphoto 6.0.3 and the computer won't let me. When I am told to select a destination to install it, my Mac HD icon comes up w/ a red exlamation point through it. When I select it I get this message: "you cannot install iphoto update 6.0.3 on this volume. An eligible iphoto apllication was not found in the location application/iphoto/app." Does anyone have any idea what I need to do. I am not very computer savvy. Also my computer says that I have 38.3 GB (is that memory?) w/ 21.8 free and iphoto needs 52.9 MB so I think I should have enough. Any help or thoughts is greatly appreciated. thanks

you say that you are still using iphoto 2. you have to have iphoto 6 installed before you can download version 6.0.3. the only way to get iphoto 6 is to buy it. that is buy the ilife'06 package. once you install it then and only then will you get the update. sorry this is the way it has to be. -
Why can't I reload iPhoto Update 6.0.6
My system crashed so I bought a new dual core 2.16GHz iMac5,1.
I ran some routine updates including iPhoto 6.0.6.
My engineer recovered my date from my old drive and gave it back to me as an external drive.
In theory all I have to do is drag my old iPhoto package from the external drive into the applications folder and I should have all my photo back a process which certainly worked with iTunes.
However iPhotos says 'You can't open your current photo library using this version of iPhoto' Underneath it tells me I have made changes using a newer version of iPhoto and tells me to quit and use the latest version.
However when I try to download iPhoto 6.0.6 again at the 'Select a Destination' stage I get the following error message. 'You cannot install iPhoto Update 6.0.6 on this volume. An eleigible iPhoto application was not found in the location /Applications/iPhoto.app
I feel I am running round in circles. Can anyone help.Hi there, the same thing happened to me. I had help in another thread. IM8 actually. Did your new system not come with ILife 8 installed? My IP6 library was on another drive as well. So if 8 is in there, I could not open my 6 Library. I even tried to copy it to the new machine. The update you downloaded is for 6 not 8. I had to remove 8 from my system. I then took my IL6 discs and reinstalled. Then ran appropriate updates... I was then able to copy every thing over with no errors. The updates you ran were for 6 and you need 6 in there first to update. And you have 8. IM8 did not copy over 6. But IP8 copied over 6. I would be careful about getting the whole library into the 8 version as the app does things very differently. Back up before you do anything. By the way, I received the same exact errors, and never even opened the new installed IP app.

As the tile says, I've recently bought a MBAir 2013 13". When I installed and updated iPhoto, I wanted to use my library, stored on an external hdd, which I used until the day before on my old MBPro 2010 13", without any problems. Now iPhoto says that this library cannot be opened by my iPhoto but it has to be opened with an updated iPhoto... but I had iPhoto 9.4.3 on my MBPro and I have iPhoto 9.4.3 on my MBAir! What can I do? Thanks a lot (sorry for my english, I'm Italian)

Since installing the last iPhoto update sharing a photo via e-mail opens a google e-mail format instead of an Apple Mail format. How can I get the Apple Mail format to come up when I click on share?

My dad bought a new retina macbook pro over a year ago.
The pre-installed iPhoto and iMovie applicaitons get this error when trying to download an update:
"to update this application, sign into the account you used to purchase it"
We are logged into the only account that he has ever had.
He has mountain lion.
It's very annoying and there's no way we know of to get around it. Searching and searching online led nowhere.
Please help!!!!!You cannot.
As requested... You need to use the SAME Apple ID that Originally made the Purchase of whatever Application you are trying to Update. -
IPhoto not "installing" after updating to Yosemite
I have just updated to Yosemite.
My old iPhoto won't work.
I try to download the latest version of iPhoto, which says is downloading, but when the download ends it never installs.
Correction - the "Instal" doesn't complete.
The site just says "Installing" but it never completes.Here's the deal....First I backed up my iPhoto Library; downloaded the iPhoto Updater 4 times; each try it popped up on my desktop within seconds and
did its thing; I continued to click on iPhoto in the dock and application folder and was lost in that loop.
FINALLY I searched "This Mac" for iPhoto and hidden amongst the gems was the app "iPhoto LIbrary Upgrader."
I'll be ****...

It worked like Apple said it would.

Recent upgrade to OS X Yosemite on my MAC and iPhoto update can not now be installed msg reads, "This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled." this is not possible help?
That error message can be misleading. It means, that iPhoto on your Mac is not associated with your Apple ID.
Either you did not set up your Mac using the same Apple ID - did someone help with your setup and use a different ID? Perhaps a family member? Or did you let someone borrow your installer disks?
Or did you not yet "Accept" iPhoto and other iLife apps to your Apple ID? Check the "Purchased" tab of the App Store, if any applications are waiting to be accepted. If you see "Accept" buttons, press them.
You may be unable to "Accept" now, if you missed the update to iphoto 9.5.1 on Mavericks. You could try to buy iPhoto, however. If you are lucky, it may show for free.
Backup your iPhoto library, if you do not have a current backup.
Uninstall iPhoto by deleting it from the Applications folder, but do not empty the Trash, so you can put it back,if need be.
Launch the App Store, click the "Store" menu, and sign in with your current AppleID.
Open the main page "Featured" of the App Store and search for iPhoto.
If iPhoto is listed as "Free", click the "Free" button to buy it with your current AppleID.

I had original iPhoto app from 2007 or 2008, but in the last year it stopped working seemingly out of nowhere. Now I just installed iPhoto 9.5.1 but it won't open even after downloading the iPhoto Library Updater. My pictures are lost in the abyss.

Have you run the iPhoto Library Upgrader? You need to direct it to the location of your old iPhoto Library by clicking the "Choose Library" button in the lower right corner of the panel you are seeing when the upgrade starts. -
I have bought a 2nd hand late 2008 macbook air and can't install iPhoto as it says it requires update 10.9 or higher i can't seem to update any further than 10.7.5 can anyone help please???

My iphoto keeps crashing after I installed the update 9.4.2
Hi, I installed the updated, edited about 30 photos and iphoto crashes, each time I re-open iphoto it takes less and less time to crash. Now I can flag about 4 photos before it goes down. Please help out. Below is the most recent crash report.

This means that you have iPhoto 09 (which is v8 - confusing, I know). To use Photostream you need iPhoto 11 (v9). This means you have to buy iPhoto 11.
