Installing iPOD software onto a new (second) computer?

Hi,
Sorry I'm new to the whole iPOD/mp3 player scene. Well about 2 months ago I installed my iPOD software onto my family's computer. Well my parents just bought me a new computer that I'm taking to college. I read that I can only install the software from the CD once on one computer? Is this true and if so how do I get the iPOD software onto my new comp and transfer my library? Well thanks alot.

Congratulations on the new computer, Joshua. It would help us if we knew if it was a Mac or a PC, however.
You'll need to transfer your music first. Use any of the following three options:
How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer
Copying songs over a network to use with iTunes for Windows
iPod Agent
You can use the CD as many times as you want. However, the software on it is probably out of date. Download what you need from the links below. Install iTunes first, then the iPod Updater. Then run the Updater (Start - Programs - iPod) and only connect your iPod when it tells you to. Choose the Update option.
iTunes 4.9
iPod Updater

  • Installing iPod software on a new pc will loose all info on my iPod?

i did not save my i-pod library on the software and i am now gonna install the software on a new pc. when i plug my iPod in will i loose all its memory? is there any way to avoid this?

While connecting the iPod to the computer on a Mac hold down the Option and Command (⌥ and ⌘) keys, on Windows, hold down Shift + Ctrl. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 3 and 30 seconds depending on your computer. Then go to Preferences>iPod and check the "Manually manage songs and playlists" box. Managing Your Songs Manually. In manual mode, your iPod is safe from being accidentally erased.
Something to remember about using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device. In that case use Safely Remove Hardware icon in the Windows system tray on your desktop or check this link: Safely Disconnect IPod

  • Error installing iPod software onto computer.

I get this error when running the iPod setup file from the CD:
"1607: Unable to install InstallShield Scripting Runtime."
Right after choosing the language, it starts to install, then stalls for a few seconds and displays that error.
I'm running the newest version of Windows XP on a computer that meets all of the system requirements. Windows is recognizing the iPod through the USB as well. Also, I popped the CD into another computer running windows XP and it works completely fine.
Any suggestions here guys? Any help would be appreciated since I've got this shiny new iPod sitting on my desk with no music on it until I can get this figured out. =\
    Thanks.

Awesome man, that site was helpful and I never would have thought to check there.
Turns out I had to reinstall Windows Installer, despite InstallShield working for everything throughout the past two years. But it fixed the problem!
Thanks for your help! I really appreciate it.

  • Installing ipod software onto mac G4 running Osx

I have a imac G4 running osx 10.0. I am able to connect my Fifth gen ipod to charge but it will not allow me to install the software that it came with. When I click on the install icon nothing happens. Can I still transfer music etc. onto the ipod with out installing the software?

Are you really running a 10.0.x version of OSX?
That's basically a beta version of OSX, and it is very unstable, buggy, and out of date.
I'm pretty sure there's no way your iPod is going to work on your system with 10.0
You should strongly consider purchasing and upgrading your operating system to a newer version.
The new iPod requires at least 10.3.9.

I have iWork 09 with a family license. I am unable to install the software on my new Macbook Pro (the message is simply "Installation failed"). I wonder if I need to remove an old computer from the family license, and if so, how?

Yes, gladly. I am trying to install on a 13" MacBook Pro with OS X 10.8.3. I insert the disk into the SuperDrive. The I work '09 window pops up with two icons: one Tim install and one that says "Read before you install iWork." I double-click on the "Install iWork '09" icon, and a window appears that says, "This package will run a program to determine if the software can be installed." I click "continue" and see "Welcome to the iWork '09 installer." I click on "Continue." The "read me" bullet on the left lights up, and I see "Read before you install. . . ." I click "Continue," then see the software license agreement. When I click on "Continue" again, I am asked to agree, and I do. The window then says, "Standard Install on 'Mackintosh HD" and indicates how much space the program will take.
I click "Install," enter my password, and the installation begins. It goes through a validating phase and begins "writing files." It indicates that installation will take about 30 minutes (although that number fluctuates). After about four minutes it goes to "cleaning up." Then after just a few seconds, the "Summary" bullet on the left lights up and this message appears: "There were errors with the installation. You may want to try installing again." There is a large yellow triangle with an exclamation point in it, and a bold "The installation failed." Below that appears "The installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance."
At that point, a "Close" button is pulsating blue at the bottom of the window.
Sorry for the tedious detail. Anything revealing there?
    Thanks!

  • How do I download my lightroom software onto my new computer when I already have my software on my old computer?

I purchased a new computer and tried to download my lightroom 4 program onto it. It is still installed on my other lap top. Can some give me some direction on how I can download my software onto my new lap top? Thanks in advance.

You have to use the same download link or same installer(DVD) to download & use the same serial number(it can be activated two times) to get it activated.

  • I want to install my Adobe CC on my new second computer. My current second computer needs to be repa

I want to install my Adobe CC on my NEW second computer.
My current second computer needs to be repared and I will get this new one.
How can I install my acount on this new computer without having issues.
I tried to look for the answer, but the only thing I could find is that once I install the account on the 3th device, I can deactivate it on the second one.
The problem is: My second computer will be gone already before I receive the third computer.
Do I need to deactivate my account in advance before receiving my new computer?
    Please help
    Angelo

    Hi Di Totto,
    Welcome to Adobe Forum,
When you install it on the third computer or for the third time & when you to activate it, if it installed & activated already twice, there will be an option of deactivating it from the previous computers, please click on that.
Next it will allow you to activate on your new machine,
Now you can go back to your first computer, log out & log back in of Desktopp CC App, launch any product, if there is any product to buy, in that prompt there will be an option to " license the software", please click on that & sign in.
It will reactivate the CC on the first machine.
You have already deactivated it from one machine, hence you can activate it on third computer.
    Regards,
    Rajshree

If you registered CS4 then you might be able to find the serial number for it in your Adobe account online.  If not, you still might be able to get someone in chat to assist you with getting it.

No you can purchase it directly from the iPod and then sync it to the computer whenever it is convenient for you

Does this mean I will lose the music from my ipod forever?
Yes, that is exactly what it means.
The right way to do it is to first rebuild your library on the new computer, and then sync the iPod.
You can rebuild your library by copying the library from the old computer or from your backup.
If neither of those options is available, you can extract the songs from the iPod, although the process is a bit hairy.  See this guide for the procedure, written by Forum member Steve/turingtest2.
