Installing iSync conduit for HotSync 3.2.1

Hello,
I got a Powerbook G4 with OS X.4.8
I've just bought a Palm T|X with Palm OS 5.4.9.
I've dowloaded the last package Palm Desktop 4.2.1 for Mac with HotSync Manager 3.2.1
Hotsync functions well with Palm Desktop.
In iSync, I go to "Device / Active Palm OS synchronisation" but I get an error message like : "Palm Desktop isn't well installed or was never opened. Try opening it and come back in iSync". I did it but it doesn't functions.
When I look in HD / Library / Applicatioin support / Palm HotSync / Conduit, I don't see any Apple or iSync conduit.
What can I do ?
Thanks
Powerbook G4 15" 1,5 ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Welcome to Apple Discussions.
This is a permissions problem with your Palm folders, most frequently occurring as a result of the option to archive and install Mac OS X.
Here are two methods you can use to correct the issue:
Take a look at the permissions of the folders listed below. Your permissions for the folders listed below should appear as described below the pathname to that folder:
For the Macintosh HD:Applications:Palm folder:
Ownership & Permissions
You can: Read & Write
Details
Owner: <shortusername>
Access: Read & Write
Group: admin
Access: Read & Write
Others: Read only
For the Macintosh HD:Library:Application Support:Palm Desktop folder:
Ownership & Permissions
You can: Read & Write
Details
Owner: <shortusername>
Access: Read & Write
Group: admin
Access: Read & Write
Others: Read only
For the Macintosh HD:Library:Application Support:Palm HotSync folder:
Ownership & Permissions
You can: Read & Write
Details
Owner: <shortusername>
Access: Read & Write
Group: admin
Access: Read & Write
Others: Read only
You can either reset those values manually, [then restart and recheck them to be sure that they are set correctly] or use the Terminal application by typing these strings listed below this example—substituting your short user name—as shown below:
sample: "sudo chown -R <shortusername>:admin /Applications/Palm"
actual: "sudo chown -R michaellafferty:admin /Applications/Palm"
…where michaellafferty is the <shortusername> in my case. Be sure to pay attention to the spaces in each string, and the direction of the / or \ [forward and back slash] characters.
Here are the appropriate Terminal entries. Each is is shown bulleted below, but actually begins with the term sudo:
• sudo chown -R <shortusername>:admin /Applications/Palm
[NOTE: at this point, you'll be asked to enter your login password]
• sudo chmod -R 775 /Applications/Palm
• sudo chown -R <shortusername>:admin /Library/Application\ Support/Palm\ HotSync/
• sudo chmod -R 775 /Library/Application\ Support/Palm\ HotSync/
• sudo chown -R <shortusername>:admin /Library/Application\ Support/Palm\ Desktop/
• sudo chmod -R 775 /Library/Application\ Support/Palm\ Desktop/
Again, pay particular attention to the spaces and to the \ characters, as both are critical to the syntax of these commands. Remember to place your actual shortusername in the string where the <shortusername> placeholder is shown, as in the sample above. [Do not include the < and > characters around your actual shortusername.]

  • ISync conduit for new "3 Skypephone"?

The network provider "3" has recently launched in Italy & the U.K. a new phone with skype built in (cfr. www.3Skypephone.com). Anyone has an idea how to sync this phone with iSync? Tia, E.

I do not have a skypephone yet but stay tuned. Nova Media (I mention the company above) has sent me a list of things to check on the phone and I will do it tomorrow. The phone seems to use the Qualcomm DREW platform and iSync plug-ins have already been developed for that platform. I will post here more info as soon as I get them. I have posted on the 3 Skype Phone forum has well but no one seems interested by that issue. Cheers, E.

  • ISync in 10.4.7 (intel) refuses to install conduit for Palm

Hello, I am trying to install th iSync conduit to sync my Palm Zire 71 with iSync, but every time I try to enable the settings iSync tells me the Hotsync Manager was not installed properly despite it working perfectly fine syncing the Zire.
I have reinstalled the latest version of Palm desktop, deleted users, even ran the old permissions fix script and not one thing has worked. I am kinda desperate for a solution at this point.

The issue you are describing is actually one of the most common problem encountered with the Palm Desktop, HotSync Manager and Transport Monitor, and usually occurs as the result of electing to reinstall Mac OS X 10.x.x using an archive and install option. • Isync conduit/adobe reader for palm issue

I just got a Tunsten E2 for Christmas. I'm somewhat new to this PDA world, so perhaps I'm missing something obvious. I installed the software, installed Adobe Reader for Palm OS and performed a HotSync. I then tried importing a PDF file to my handheld with no trouble. Then I saw via the Palm website that I could sync using isync via the isync conduit 1.2 from apple. So I downloaded that and followed the instructions to install it. Now my addresses and calendars sync flawlessly, but I can't seem to get Adobe Reader for Palm to transfer any more PDF files.
Has the isync conduit disabled a conduit for Adobe? Is there any way to fix this? Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thank you,
    J
P.S. I'm using Hotsync manager 3.2.1 and Palm Desktop 4.2.1

    Michael,
I've figured out what the problem is. When you install the isync conduit it removes any conduits that it feels it conflicts with. i.e. contacts, calendars, to do lists etc. It also, for some reason, removed the Adobe conduit named AcroConduit. I think this is a glitch in the isync conduit. Thankfully, the conflicting conduits that isync removes aren't deleted. They are simply put into a folder named "disabled conduits" located in the main "library" folder->"Application Support" -> "Palm HotSync", right next to the "Conduits" folder. So I just dragged the AcroConduit back to the "Conduits" folder and configured the conduit in HotSync Manager and, viola, all seems to be working fine... sort of.
It seems that Apple's Address Book and iCal don't exactly sync picture perfect on the palm pilot. email addresses where phone numbers should be, some addresses not showing up at all, calendars not showing up in the correct headings such as personal, business, etc. Apple and Palm could do better.

  • ISync Conduit not visible in HotSync Manager Mac OS X 10.5.5 (Leopard)

    Hi,
i just bought a Palm Z22 thinking it compatible to iSync (see http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/isync/ ) after my Visor Edge wouldn't sync any more. Now I am experiencing the exact same problem as with the Visor Edge:
I installed Palm Desktop 4.2.2 (shipped with the Z22), I started iSync and clicked "Enable Palm OS Syncing"; iSync told me to start the HotSync Manager and to enable the iSync-Conduit in the Conduit-Manager - problem: The iSync-Conduit does not show up in the Conduit Manager window. However, in the conduit folder (Library/Application Support/Palm HptSync/Conduits) there is a file called "Apple" amongst the other conduit-files.
    Please help...?

    Hi,
I have a Tungsteng 5 and I was syncing it with an XP PC. I bought a MacBook with OS X 10.5, I installed Palm Desktop 4.2.1 Rev D for Mac. I have synced once and then I followed the iSync instructions to add the Palm device but I don't see the iSync conduit in the Hosync Manager.
    Any idea?
    Thanks

  • CANNOT GET ISYNC TO INSTALL PALM CONDUIT? 10.4, G4, TREO PALM 4.2

    With all of these combinations:
I get the PALM DESKTOP to sync with the TREO GREAT!
But I cannot find or get the isync 2.0 to create a PALM CONDUIT so I can use iCAL. DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO DOWNLOAD OR INSTALL THIS CONDUIT? WHEN YOU CHOOSE "ENABLE PALM OS" IN iSYNC - NOTHING.
Post relates to: Treo 650 (Cingular)

Palm Desktop 4.2.1 Rev B running on latest OS X 10.4 worked super with my old Visor Deluxe. But then I tried to get iSync to enable the Palm device and... no luck. iSync tells me something about having to get HotSync Manager working, or launching HotSync Manager and trying to enable again--all to no avail.
HotSync Manager is working fine; the Palm Desktop is working fine syncing data of my old Visor. But I need to get that data on iCal and Address Book. The solution suggested earlier--creating new user acct. with non-admin privileges, etc.--seems complicated, but maybe I'll give it a try. My only Mac account is an admin account--don't see why I should have to set up a separate non-admin one.
Palm Desktop's fine, HotSync Manager's fine, iSync doesn't agree. Maybe it has something to do with the age of my Visor? Don't see why that should make a difference if PD/Hotsync Manager are working.
Anyone with another solution out there?

  • Palm Tree 755p + iSync/Missing Sync for Palm/iSync Conduit 1.2

I'm lost! Being stuck with a new Palm Treo 755p instead of the iPhone until my contract runs out. How do I get my Treo to sync with my Mac? There's iSync, iSync Conduit 1.2 and even Missing Sync for Palm. I'm willing to pay anything just to get things to sync with the Treo & iBook. But, after reading anything and everything I can find even on Discussions ... I'm more confused than ever.
Can anyone tell me what the real difference is between Missing Sync for Palm vs. iSync & iSync Conduit 1.2?
If I had that rebate check from uncle Sam maybe I'd go out and pay off Sprint to get out of my 2 year contract and then buy an iPhone, LOL. Oh, that's right we don't get the check until summer
    Any help is appreciated.

OK, I finally broke down and purchased "Missing Sync," after waiting for Apple to fix this problem. I'm sorry to say that "Missing Sync" does NOT solve this issue completely. It will sync the Address book, but will NOT work with iCal.
Apparently, "Mark/Space" (the makers of "Missing Sync") are aware of the problems, have identified the problem as Apple's, and reported it to Apple. Here are some of the issues noted on the "Mark/Space" web-page...
"This article describes situations under which The Missing Sync may report errors or perfomance issues. One error message is specific to iCal (part of Apple's Mac OS X operating system) and describes errors from iCal that are affecting the ability of The Missing Sync from performing sync functions properly."
"In certain situations, The Missing Sync reports an error message titled 'iCal Sync Errors'. This error is often caused when iCal is attempting to share data with Sync Services. Although this error has little to do with handheld devices, it affects the ability to sync data to or from those devices as Sync Services functions are compromised."
"THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN REPORTED TO APPLE, INC. BY MARK/SPACE."
"Errors that are not reported in The Missing Sync log may be found in the Console.log file."
"Here are some of the error messages you may see in the Console:
    iSDSqliteRecordMapper
    SQLite locking issue
    iSynceConcreteSession
    NSInvalidArgumentException
    ICalExternalSync
    ISyncInvalidRecordException
These error are generated by Sync Services and reported to The Missing Sync."
So, for those of you hoping that "Missing Sync" will solve the problems we are having with various hand-helds, and/or cell phones, it doesn't completely. I am a huge fan of Mark/Space's "The Missing Sync" and have used it many times throughout the years. It's a great piece of software that does a whole lot more than iSync ever has, but it does NOT solve all of the problems that are being reported all over this forum in regards to iSync issues and hand-helds/cell phones.

  • "iSync conduit failed" error

I am trying to synch either of two Tungsten E2 PDAs. I have Palm desktop 4.2.1 and iSync 3.0 installed. Both devices have iSync enabled (I did all the things in the Help files to enable everything). Both these devices have been synched successfully in the past.
When I try to synch now, the HotSync Manager log states things like this:
    iSync Conduit starting 4/24/08 3:17:55
Timeout waiting for Sync Engine, exiting 4/24/08 3:23:53
    iSync Conduit synchronization failed
“iSync Conduit” failed (error = #-2)
I cannot get iCal to synch, but other non-Apple things synch just fine. Does anyone know what I can do about this?

This is typically an indication that your conduit has not been 'configured' in the HotSync Manager. Palm and Apple's unfortunate choice of a term, not mine…
As the instructions indicate, you have to drag the appropriate replacement conduit into the Conduits folder located at
    Mactintosh HD:Library:Application Support:Palm HotSync
and then launch either the Palm Desktop or the HotSync Manager to 'configure' or activate the conduit using the HotSync menu's Configure option. Essentially, you select it in a dialog, double-click on it, then place a check in a box. Close that dialog, and you're done.
Synchronization issues not at all related to the defective or missing conduit, however, can still exist in Mac OS X 10.5.x configurations, requiring two steps to synchronize contacts in one, and events and tasks in another, by initially deselecting Calendars while insuring the Contacts is selected in your drop-down iSync device configuration dialog, synchronizing, reversing these settings and synchronizing again.
Many find this behavior annoying, and instead choose to synchronize with the Missing Sync for Palm OS from Mark/Space.

  • Trouble with Locating "iSync Conduit"

    Hi,
I'm trying to get iSync (which I've never used before) to talk to my Palm Z22 (which I just got today). It's just not working for me.
    This is what is happening:
    I go into Appications/Palm
    I open HotSync Manager
From the HotSync menu, I click "Conduit Settings"
The next step is meant to be "select the iSync Conduit from the list of available conduits."
Here's where I get derailed. In the list under "Conduit Name," there is no "iSync" conduit. Everything from Adddress Book to To Do List is listed, but no iSync.
I know I have iSync 1.5. The folder is on my desktop and I have installed it.
Still, I am unable to reach the point of "Select 'Enable iSync' for this Palm device."
    And it is SO frustrating!
I realize I must be doing something wrong, but for the life of me I can't figure out what.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!
    T

Using iSync with Mac OS 10.3.9 actually requires that you install two components: iSync 1.5 and the iSync Palm Conduit 1.2.
There was an earlier iSync 1.2 application, which should not be confused with the iSync Palm Conduit 1.2: they are very different pieces of software.
With iSync 2 and later—various versions of which ship with Mac OS X 10.4 and later—the iSync Palm Conduit is actually bundled into and installed by the application. With iSync 1.5, you must install and configure the iSync Palm Conduit [described above] from a separate package.

  • Installing Adobe Reader for Palm on Vista

I run as a standard account on Vista Ultimate. The installer needs admin privileges so that it can update c:\Program Files. As a result, the installer ran under my administrative account. When it shut down, updated the Hotsync conduit and restarted Hotsync, Hotsync was running under my admin account. This means that all Hotsync data ended up in the wrong user directory structure. Also, the conduit was looking in the wrong place for PDFs to be uploaded to the Palm. Restarting Hotsync under my standard account did not work - the Adobe Reader conduit did not show up in my Hotsync settings.
The solution was to change my standard account to have administrative privileges. I also installed Adobe Reader for Palm to a different directory, rather than under c:\Program Files - I am not sure this is required but has been recommended for other applications that are not Vista-compliant. The Hotsync conduits were properly updated this time but would not automatically restart - a manual restart was successful. I was then successfully able to sync PDFs.

  • Re-install isync

    Hi,
I have been having problems with isync and manually uninstalled it, in the knowledge that I had the pkg for isync 2.1. However, when trying to install 2.1 I get an error message saying the a newer version is already installed. A brouse of this forum suggested installing combi update 10.4.4 but this will not install on my Mac.
Can someone explain how I can re install isync please?

Got it. That's very clearly a problem you're going to have to address at the source - the export stage - rather than from iCal after import.
Have you spoken with the campus technology staff familiar with SCT Banner or SCT Campus Pipeline about the issue? Surely, they must be familiar with 'standards-based' calender export.
The problem here is that there are SO many component parts: the SCT program, the exported files, iCal, iSync and Sync Services. It could be that Apple has failed to properly account for and handle something produced by the SCT programs, but it seems far more likely that the export files are non-standard. The exported records are essentially considered 'mal-formed' by Sync Services, and there is no way that you can diagnose and correct the issue on a hit-or-miss basis.
The whole push-pull or put-get technology behind Sync Services is complex and at times mysterious, and made infinitely more complex when you cross platforms, despite the existence of widely touted 'standards' for data interchange.
I would start by hunting down the local Banner or Campus Pipeline expert, and asking that individual why the data is not 'synchronizable' in its current form.

  • Can't Install Isync

I have tried to install Insyn several times, but when I get to the actual install, it tells me it can't install, because there is nothing to install. I don't get it. There is an application present which says it has 7.2 mb of information, but it says there isn't anything to install. I am installing again because my Isync that was on my computer had an alias icon, and would not start up. Help?

What version are you trying to install, in what manner and from which source?
If you are using Mac OS X 10.4.5, you must first extract and install iSync 2 using Pacifist and your original Mac OS X 10.4 Install or Upgrade DVD, then apply the appropriate Mac OS X 10.4.x Combo update for either PowerPC or intel. Based upon your tag line, it would be this package:

  • How to get rid of install.mac - conduit - bing override when performing search in safari?

I downloaded paintbrush through safari on my mac.  Now whenever I perform a search (writing text in the url area), i am redirect to install.mac - conduit - bing.  How to get rid of it?

Okay i had the exact same thing aswell and it drove me crazy! I'm pretty sure i got it by downloading Paintbrush as well I finally figured out how to get rid of it tho, even after calling apple support which resulted with no solution.
    - First try to reset safari by clicking the safari tab next to the apple logo (top left), then select reset safari from the drop down box (make sure all boxes are ticked aswell)
    - Then after safari has reset go to preferences and select the privacy tab. Then go to the section Cookies and other websites data and select details.
    after that select Remove all.
    - Also make sure that your default search engine is https://www.google.com (or whatever you prefer) and that in the extentions tab there are no dodgy add-ons and things.
    - You can then exit safari,
    (here comes the tricky bit)
    - You will need to go to you finder and select the Painbrush App, then move that b**** to the trash.
    - Once that is gone, go to the search bar in finder and type in Paintbrush.
    - Then click the +icon just below the search bar.
    - You will then want to select the ^
    - Once the brop down box appears select other
    - You will then need to search System Files in the search bar, and then tick the box next to it, then press ok.
    - After that click the ^ and change it to
    - You will then see many files. BE VERY VERY CAREFUL NOT TO DELETE IMPORTANT FILES!!!
    - Some files will have the word conduit or plugin and such, so try move all of them to the trash. Again, try not to delete important files and folders, if your not sure about some just leave them, but when i did it it was fairly clear which ones to trash. (i also went and deleted any of the apps i didnt think were great/trustworthy)
    - Once you feel that all the nasty files are gone you can reopen safari and hopefully everything will be back to normal!
It seriously took me so long to figure this out and i'm so glad that i did, especially because there were not many articles on how to. Hope it works for you as well, if you have any questions or clarifications feel free to ask!
