Installing Itunes - 64 bit machine

I read the posts but none of the solutions worked for me. I installed the latest itunes and it goes through the install then I get the "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close" message when I run it. I tried reinstalling Quicktime 7, but it won't even finish the install. I get a unhandled exception error and it doesn't finish the setup. I am using the 64-bit version of Windows XP. Thanks in advance for the help.

hi Cowboy Bates!
I tried reinstalling Quicktime 7, but it won't even finish the install. I get a unhandled exception error and it doesn't finish the setup. I am using the 64-bit version of Windows XP.
you are running afoul of a conflict between the QuickTime Player and Windows Update KB908531 on XP x64 PCs. (the broken quicktime is causing your itunes launch error.)
for information and background on troubleshooting the beast, see:
b noir: Re: Windows XP 64, trouble after install of itunes update
if you go the "uninstall KB908531" route with this, see the "vulnerability details" section of the following security bulletin for three (at last count) workarounds that can block the Windows Explorer vulnerability (in lieu of having the update installed):
Microsoft Security Bulletin MS06-015: Vulnerability in Windows Explorer Could Allow Remote Code Execution (908531)

  • ITunes Error 7 (Windows error 127) after installing iTunes 64-bit for Windows

After installing iTunes 64-bit for Windows (latest build), I get an error pop-up saying:
iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes
    Error 7 (Windows error 127)
I've gone thru the uninstall, reboot and reinstall process three or four times now. Still nothing.
Furthermore, after clicking okay to the error, it continues to pop up on it's own every 45 seconds or so.
There was one other error I came across after trying to launch iTunes after installation.
    See both error messages here:

Brilliant. Thanks a lot. I've wasted a couple of hours on this nasty bug, & trying all the other suggestions across various threads again and again.
I now find I had the same registry entry hanging on, despite uninstalling & wiping everything again and again. Having now deleted this key, (I don't even have an iPod), & iTunes 11.1.14 now opens at long last.
But WHY is this bug not fixed? Enough people are suffering with this across the forum. WHERE is Apple support on this?
It should have been added to their page at
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
    by now, why hasn't it???
    It's not good enough!
    Re:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SharedDlls]
    "C:\\Program Files\\iPod\\bin\\iPodService.exe"=dword:80000000
AHA! This entry for iPodService.exe still exhisted.  So I had no folders on the PC, no installs on the PC and no services running.... BUT this was still in the Registry.
Step 5 - Delete only the Registry entry above.  NO REBOOT
    Step 6 - Reinstall iTunes64.exe

My Wife got an iPhone at work. IT set it up the first time on another machine, they finally install iTunes on her machine but I don't know if she can sync without loosing Photos, SMS, and other things. She had six months of stuff on that phone?
The problem is she can't update to new software until she connect to iTunes, but she don't want to loose all that info.
    My question is:
If she register her apple ID on that new computer, and sync the phone, will she loose everything? or iTunes will back up first (because apple id match) and then sync.
Otherwise, how can I do it? The closest apple store is 3 hours away. thanks!

Before you connect to a new PC, make sure that autosync is disabled in Edit/Preferences/Devices, otherwise her phone will be wiped during the following sync.
If she has data on the phone she wants to save, back up manually:
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your phone to her new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your phone without syncing. Transfer the purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your phone for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the phone for the first time.

  • Installing iTunes 64 bit version on Windows 7

After downloading and starting the iTunes64setup.exe, the install program showed that it will install the program at C:\Programs Files(x86). This is the location for 32 bit programs. Why does the install program want to place this 64 bit program in the 32 bit program directory? Should this be changed to C:\Program Files (the appropriate location for 64 bit files) or use the default location? Are there 32 bit components in the program that require it to be installed in the x86 location? Please advise.

After downloading and starting the iTunes64setup.exe, the install program showed that it will install the program at C:\Programs Files(x86). This is the location for 32 bit programs.
Yes, that's correct. A lot of the iTunes program is 32-bit.
It's been a while since I checked with a version on a 64-bit machine, but I think this is what you'll probably see after the install:
    \Program files\
    "Bonjour"
"iPod" (contains the 64-bit iPod Service)
    "iTunes" (contains the 64-bit miniplayer)
    \Program files\Common Files\Apple\
"Mobile Device Support" (contains the 64-bit AMDS)
    \Program Files (x86)\
    "Apple Software Update"
    "BonJour"
    "iTunes"
    "QuickTime"
    \Program files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\
    "Apple Application Support"
    "CoreFP"
(Can't remember off the top of my head where your MobileMe goes on a 64-bit system.)

  • I cant install itunes 64 bit

when i install itunes and when i open the program it says reinstall itunes and windows error 7 i did it 5 times and same problem

this is what i found on a page on the internet
    http://www.jerrytravis.com/560/an-easy-fix-for-itunes-10-5-x64-that-wont-install -on-windows-7-64-bit
I just downloaded iTunes 10.5 and tried to install it on my Windows 7 64 bit machine. What I got was an error message that said:
There is a problem with this WIndows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor.
The fix that allowed 10.5 to install correctly was very simple. Simply go to Control Panel > Uninstall a Program. Right-click on “Apple Software Update” and choose “Repair.” After that, iTunes 10.5 (x64) should install with no problems at all. Apparently the Apple Updater can get messed up and cause the new version not to install. Imagine that.
If only all Windows errors were so easy to fix!

  • Unable to install itunes 64 bit

Every time I install iTunes on my 64 bit version of windows, it installs it as the 32 bit version. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling with the iTunes64setup and it still installs the the application as the 32 bit version, saving it in Program Files/(x86) or whatever it is. While running itunes, the task manager shows itunes(32). I have an HP dv6 running Windows 8 64bit.

Also, if I ignore the first error message and proceed with the installation, I get this second error, that Apple Application Support cannot be found, and the iTunes boot up fails.  Again, any assistance appreciated.

  • Can't install iTunes 64 bit on windows 7

I reccently attempted to update itunes on both my computers on my Desktop it was done in 10 mins however on my laptop it first gave a intall error 7 and then I searched online for a fix and saw how uninstall all apple components worked for some people and decided to give it a try. Now when I attempt a clean install of itunes i get two errors sometimes it is apple mobile device failed to start and I attempt to start it manually with no sucess and I get an error to verify that I still have acess to a folder, which I have and I have attempted to install itunes now for nearly a week and all my music is on my laptop and documents and my laptop is a 64 bit windows 7 OS so pls help

    Many thanks.
I think you've got two different types of problem going on at once here. Let's try clearing this second error out of the way first.
the second is "Error writing to file: C:\ Program Files(x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\Webkit.resources\inspector\Images\timelinePillGreen.png. Verify that you still have acess to that directory."
That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Vista instructions in the following document: Check your hard disk for errors
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through without that particular error message afterwards? (Whether this works or not, we still might have to deal with the system services message.)

  • After installing ITunes 64 bit in my Windows 8 laptop, it won't launch

I just upgraded to Itunes 64 bit in my Windows 8 64 bit laptop. I've downloaded and installed it but it's not working. I've uninstalled and installed again and again, still ITunes 64 bit won't launch. Help!

Windows 8 or Windows RT? iTunes won't run on Windows RT. It should run on Windows 8. Use the appropriate installer from an account with administrator privileges.
    Windows System Requirements
PC with a 1GHz Intel or AMD processor and 512MB of RAM
Windows XP Service Pack 2 or later, 32-bit editions of Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
64-bit editions of Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8 require the iTunes 64-bit installer
    400MB of available disk space
Broadband Internet connection to use the iTunes Store

  • HT1923 How to uninstall itunes 32 bit and install itunes 64 bit on windows vista 64

I installed 32 bit version of Itunes by mistake on a Windows Vista 64 bit computer.  I have lots of items in my Itunes library.  Can I uninstall the 32 bit version and install the 64 bit version without loosing my Itunes library?

Yes you can without losing your music. Here is a link to a good website that helps people install and / or uninstall iTunes properly. It can keep you from going completely nuts if you are running into any problems trying to install, reinstall or uninstall iTunes! You can find step by step instructions there to help you if you can't remove or install iTunes for any reason or if it got corrupted somehow. It also has other reference links that have helped a lot of people from going completely nuts with iTunes problems: http://HowToUninstalliTunes.com

Running Windows 7 64 bit.  Itunes working fine until update to 10.5.2 attempted.  Installation fails.  I am able to install 32 bit version but not 64 bit.  As a result, cannot see my iphone in itunes either.  Anyone having a similar issue?  Apple tech could not solve it after 5 hours on the phone unfortunately.

These ones are typically caused by underlying problems on the PC that also often cause Windows Updates to fail to install. If we can fix the Windows Update trouble, we can usually get the iTunes trouble cleaned up en passant.
Go into your Windows update and try to check for new updates. If updates install, stock up on the ones you're behind on, restarting the PC if requested to do so. After the restart, try installing iTunes again. Does it go through this time for you?
If windows updates fail to install, go into your Update History and doubleclick the failures. What alphanumeric codes appear for you? Are they also 80070BC9, or some other number? (If they're another number, what number are you getting?)
