Installing Itunes "Registering ITunes Automation Server"

When I attempt to install ITunes 7.3, I get an error saying: "Registering ITunes Automation Server." I've uninstalled my previous version of ITunes, restarted my machine, then re-downloaded the installer, but I get caught up in the same place. Any assistance would be appreciated.

When I attempt to install ITunes 7.3, I get an error saying: "Registering ITunes Automation Server."
Hmmmmm.
I had luck with one of these the other day with the following procedure.
First, download and save a copy of the latest standalone QuickTime installer to your hard drive. (We'll run the install from there rather than "online".)
Latest Quicktime Installers … get the one that doesn’t mention iTunes
Now run the QuickTime install by doubleclicking the QuickTimeInstaller.exe file.
If that install goes through okay, reboot the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?
(The idea here is that if your QuickTime is already fully up to date, the iTunes installer bundle will skip that part of the install when it runs. Sometimes if the iTunes installer has "less to do" like that, it can get us past the "Registering ITunes Automation Server" hang.)

  • Stops installing when Registering Itunes Automation Server

when I install Itunes(7.5) its stops in the Registering Itunes Automation Server, then it pops up Itunes cannot open because some of the required files are missing.

After searching through the other topics, I found that some people have posted a solution that I tried and it worked for me.
    Good luck.
First uninstall Quicktime from Add or Remove Programs. Then go to http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/quicktime72forwindows.html after you get there download then reinstall Quicktime.

  • Itunes "registering itunes automation server" freeze?

    hi
i am really sorry for posting twice the same problem but since no one answered i thought that i should start a new topic:
when installing itunes (9.2.1.5) it installs everything (bonjour, apple software update, apple mobile device support, apple application support, and quicktime)even itunes but not perfectly it is there in program files but not in control panel and when i click on itunes.exe my LAPTOP (not only itunes)i can't move my mouse or even start task manager the only thing i can do is force restart. but i saw another topic where someone said to use cmd like this:C:\program files\itunes\itunes.exe /regserver,and my LAPTOP froze again so i force rebooted into safe mode and deleted everything related to apple except quicktime and itunes. Then when i went out of safe mode and used the cmd trick it worked but it said something about the software required for ipods and mobile devices was not installed correctly (but i need that software because i am getting an iphone 4)
but now heres the weird part when i installed itunes on windows xp mode, it installed perfectly without any errors. so could someone tell how to fix "registering itunes automation server" and explain what "registering itunes automation server" means? (if you want more information check out my other topic:click here)

I have the same exact problem, I got an iPhone 4 and when i connected to the iTunes i had earlier for my iPhone 3g, it told me to download a compatible version for the iPhone 4. So i went ahead and did that, and since then the iTunes install freezes on "Registering iTunes automation server" I have tried everything possible out there but no luck so far..
    I am using Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit

  • Install hanging when registering automation server

I'm tearing my hair out, as well as getting my 4rse kicked by the other half!
We've had iTunes up and running on our Vista Home Premium box for a while, then it just stopped working coming up with an error.
So I've tried re-installing, but 7.3 keeps hanging when trying to register the automation server. Worst still I have to kill it with Task Manager and it leaves a partial install that refuses to uninstall!
Any guidance would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Stuart

Registering Automation Server hangs are actually a 7.x.x.x thing rather than a 7.3.0.54 thing. I've seen them with 7.2.0.x too.
    Perhaps try this strategy.
First download and then install the QuickTime standalone installer:
Latest Quicktime Installers … get the one that doesn’t mention iTunes
If that install goes through properly, then try another iTunes install.
(The theory here is that if your QuickTime is already up to date, the iTunes installer bundle skips the QuickTime part of the install. If the iTunes installer is given less to do, sometimes it gets past the Registering Automation Server hang.)

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

After spending another two days on pinning down the iTunes 10.5 blank store page problem, here's the solution to be found: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3372617?start=0&tstart=0
    Look out for "japiohelp".
    In short:
    a) press Windows key + "R", enter "cmd", and press Ctrl+Shift+Enter (= runs as admin)
    b) enter "netsh winsock reset" and pres enter
    c) reboot the computer
    and Bob's your uncle.

  • Registering iTunes Automation Server installation freeze

Hi all. Long and detailed question, but I've been searching everywhere and am at my breaking point.
I searched for others with this issue and found a few people who complained about it, but the only responses suggested using the SpyCatcher deactivation when installation freezes at registering modules. That's not the issue here.
I upgraded to the latetst version and lost my abilitiy to open iTunes. It would launch (tracked in Task Manager) but wouldn't opne. Following advice I found on here (apple support docs and forum advice), I completely uninstalled iTunes and Quicktime.
Now, though, when I try to install, I get a clean install of Quicktime, but when installing iTunes, it gets all the way to "Registering iTunes Automation Server" and then freezes. The first time I left it for hours and no progress, and subsequent attempts to uninstall and reinstall hit the same point.
I'm running a Dell x64 pentium with WinXP sp2. I have ZA internet security suite which I disable for the install (though it never posed problems before and the ZA forums don't show people having install issues). Likewise, run multiple AV and malware scans, patches are updated and current.
The only thing I can even think of is that iTunes was initially installed under a different user account than the one with admin privileges, but since I've wiped all the accounts of any traces of iTunes and QT using CCleaner and Registry Mechanic after unintalls using the Windows Installer Clean-up utility, I can't see why that would be the issue.
I know this is a tough one, but it's so frustrating for me and my wife not to be able to update our iPods or manage our music.
    Thanks.

  • "Registerting iTunes Automation Server" freeze

    Hello,
So, this is where my iTunes installation freezes up. In fact, as I write this, it's making my computer freeze up every few minutes while not making any progress.
I uninstalled it using the Windows Install Clean Up program, restarted, deleted the iTunes folder and Quicktime VR files, restarted, then installed and this is where I am now.
I learned that I can get out of this hang up by stopping the "itunes.exe" process after doing the whole altctrldel thingie. After doing that, it says itunes is completely installed, but it's a lie. It freezes up and does nothing.
I hope this helps in describing my situation. I hope you can help.
P.S. I'm going to stop "Registering iTunes Automation Server" now.

I ate monkeys. Then iTunes was satisfied and began working again.
I described my steps in the following post:

  • Please Help...Itunes Automation Server problem

It installs up to the point where it says "Registering Itunes automation server", it freezes on the last bar and then says "cannot run cuz some of itunes required files are missing...reinstall"...but it won't. Can anyone help?
    Thanks

You will need to import all your songs to the laptop first. Then, connect your
iPod. Select Erase and Sync. This will remove all the files from you iPod (SO
BE CAREFUL YOU HAVE YOUR SONGS ON THE LAPTOP). Then start over, like you did
when you first got the iPod. Sync it with the laptop.
What I would do, is go to your first computer and burn a DVD of all your songs.
Then on the laptop, do an "Add Folder to Library" in iTunes. Make sure your
iTunes is configured to "copy files when importing". After that, your laptop
should have all the files that you had on your old computer, on it. Generally,
you can't copy from the iPod to the computer. There may be 3rd party apps that
allow this, but not built in to iTunes.
Leave the songs on the old computer, incase things go bad. You can always
re-init the iPod and go back to the original computer and re-sync.
    Good luck. Hope this helps.

  • Can't install ITunes on Windows 2003 server (WHS box)

    Hi,
I can't install the latest ITunes because it incorrectly mistakes my Windows 2003 server as Windows XP. So after search I find that I can change the MSI files as according to this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2154140.
This seems to work for all MSI file sin the ITunes etup exe except for this: AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi. If I change the MSI LaunchConditions it gives my error 2229 no matter what.
So I'm stuck. Should I call Apple next?

I can't help you with the error you get, but just to clarify while iTunes isn't "officially" supported for use on Server 2003, it does work. Sort of. iTunes 8 could be installed by editing the MSI, iTunes 9 however while this method is still required you'll run into a problem with iPodService.exe crashing, and iTunes refuses to finish the install until that service is up and running.
There are a few topics on here that detail what you can do to get around this problem. I believe currently the only tried and tested method is to use the iPodService.exe from iTunes 8, doing a swap trick when the iTunes 9 service crash occurs so that you can at least get the application to install.
I can't be bothered to go to the trouble though. I'm interested in seeing if Apple will silently stop with the BS and just fix the installer's version mismatch errors (easily done), and fix iPodService.exe. The reason why the service crashes, according to what I've read, is because it seemingly misidentifies Server 2003 and similar OS's as Vista or Windows 7, and then begins calling functions for those OSs from ntdll.dll - which causes the crash.
As for your error, presumably that is with Orca. All I could find relating to the errors is something about transforming the MSI and language translations. It could also be because of an older version of Orca. Perhaps try and re-download iTunes, and extract the MSI packages again. But you should only need to edit the LaunchCondition for AppleMobileDevice.msi - and you don't need to delete the table either, you can simply change the number in NTVersion from 501 to 502, save the package and it'll all work. It did for me when I first tried it anyway.
