Installing iWeb Update 2.0.2

Hi
I am having trouble installing the update 2.0.2 for iWeb. I double click the install icon and the installation page appears then an alert boc appears stating 'An eligible iWeb application was not found in the location/Applications.' This is not the case as my application is sitting there very happy? I have already installed the latest iLife update as advised on the Apple update page.
Any ideas?
James

That sounds like a reinstall would be good... But first backup your website
http://alyeska.altervista.org/en/iWebBackupWebsite.html
You're sure to have iWeb 2 ('08), right?
And you're sure it isn't already 2.0.2, right? (open iWeb, upper Menu, iWeb, About iWeb)

Cédric

"You cannot install iWeb Update on this volume. A qualifying copy of iWeb was not found in /Applications." How do I fix this?

Version 2.0.4 is iWeb 08 and direct publishing via ftp is not available in iWeb 08 and never has been.  You have the option of publishing to MobileMe, but you can publish via ftp, but you need to select the option publish to a local folder instead and then upload using Cyberduck, which is a free and dedicated ftp client.
If you want the inbuilt ftp function, then you will need to upgrade your iLife package to either iLife 09 which contains iWeb 09 or iLife 11, which also contains iWeb 09.  For this, you need to purchase both of these packages.  Either go to Amazon and try and get a copy of iLife 09 more cheaply or purchase iLife 11 directly from the Apple store.
This is what you will need to do and iWeb 08, which is the version you have, never has had built in ftp so that option will never be available to you unless you upgrade which you will have to pay for.  Upgraded and updates are different things.  Updates are just your normal run of the mill software updates and address bug fixes etc., whereas you will need to pay for full upgrades to other packages such as from iLife 08 to iLife 09 or 11.

  • Iweb update wont install

When I chatted with Tech Support because my website that I have been running for 3+ years wouldn't publish they had me download iweb update 3.0.2
When I downloaded it and tryed to install it I get the following error in the Destination Select portion of the install process: You cannot install iWeb Update on this volume. A qualifying copy of iWeb was not found in /Applications.
    PLEASE HELP ME!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. What is the version of the current iWeb application that you are using? If you truly have iWeb 08 then you would have iWeb 2. To get the 3.0.2 updater to run you will need to have iWeb 3 (09) installed. That would be part of iLife 09 or iLife 11. But you may not need to upgrade your iLife applications.
Since you can't publish try the following:
1 - go to the System/MobileMe preference pane and log out of MMe.
2 - login with a bogus username and password like "test" and "test". This clears the caches.
3 - login with your correct username and password.
4 - launch iWeb and try again.
    Next:
    1 - close iWeb.
2 - delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder.
3 - go to your User/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete the contents.
    4 - reboot.
5 - launch iWeb and see if there's any improvement.

  • Can't Install iWeb?

I'm getting this message while trying to install iWeb Update.
"You cannot install iWeb update on this volume. An eligible iWeb application was not found in the location /Applications/iWeb/.app."
I think it might be because I moved everything into labelled folders, because the Finder as it was was too messy and unorganized.
I moved all the iLife '06 applications into a folder named "iLife '06"
How can I fix this problem?

Um, you could move iWeb back into the Applications folder and see if that works.

  • I am using a new imac with osx lion 10.7.5 and have bought a copy of Apple iLife 11 on dvd a so that I can install iWeb and idvd, when I click on install iLife I get a message saying "iLife.kpg was signed with an invalid certificate

I am using a new imac with osx lion 10.7.5 and have just bought Apple iLife 11 on dvd so that I can install iWeb and iDVD, as macs no longer ship with these apps. When I click on install iLife I get a message saying "iLife.kpg was signed with an invalid certificate.
Next problem is that when moving through the installer and get to custom install, as I only want to install iDVD and iWeb, I am presented with the option to install iDVD, Sounds & Jingles and iWeb, but not sure what is going on with the other 3 options iLife Support etc, they seem to be greyed out but still look like they may install over the top of the newer versions already on my imac. Is it ok for me to just go ahead and hit install? Or do I have a problem?

Yep, just install iDVD (plus sounds and jingles) and iWeb if you want it (but note that iWeb apparently won't work if you upgrade to Mountain Lion).
Then use Software Update to get any late iDVD updates.

  • Installing iWeb 2.0.2 is the worst nightmare ever

When I first instal iWeb 2.0.1, all was wrong but one day started working, this was until the patch of iWeb 2.0.2 when again everything was wrong again, I do like a lot iWeb and I have a lot on my .mac account I even have 20GB of hard disk in my subscription, but this is the tip of the iceberg for me, probably the lasts weeks I have the .mac account, I have been waiting for a fix like most of iWeb users that are on this forum, and what I see is mac really not listening to the clients of iWeb, this is probably the worst Update mac has ever had, we users of mac knew that mac always test the software on the users, but when the users have a business based on their web pages like me and probably a lot of other users, then Apple is affecting third party and not the regular users.
I really don't know what to think right now of this update, but is definitely not working for a lot of users that we are desperate that Apple hear us.
I know probably Apple is having the finishing touches of Jaguar (nice) but we the ones that are affected with iWeb 2.0.2 are having way bigger problems and there is no one in Apple who really is looking at the problem.
    My sites are this ones:
    www.cinematograf.com
    www.soloenmexico.net
I wish I can continue working with Apple but if this problem persists I will be forced to leave .mac and never come back because of this bad taste on this issue, I will probably use Dreamweaver and rent a hosting plan with better things than .mac.
As you all can see I am really mad and ****** about this issue and I am shure I am not the only one.
    Do you think like me?
    Adolfo

    Jon,
When 08 came out, I Correct al my pages, I re did all of them, so that is not the problem, I even had to almost kill my whole site in order to it work perfect, that was when I had 2.0.1 then Apple send us the update for 2.0.2 and it was then when It stopped working at all.
With 2.0.1 there was problems and we all fix them as .mac told us, but with this update 2.0.2 there is nothing to fix there is probably not solution, so a lot of us are desperate, and we just wish to go back to the settings on 2.0.1 they worked fine (at least the last 2 weeks of version 2.01).
Then as you see my site: www.cinematograf.com is huge and www.soloenmexico.net (lives from the comments) (the last one has already 90 publications that makes it a 3 month old site (yes I made it with '08, in full) I can't think of loosing all the comments as that gives the site self promotion, the problem is that I had been already since "9/13/07" that I can't publish a thing it did work for a day on "9/24/07" as you can see on the site, but that was the last day it worked since then we can't publish a thing, the problem of that particularly site is that it was growing a hype and one day off we loose public opinions and one week off we loose fans, so is not really cool of mac to keep us off like this

  • IWeb Update - Publishing to MobileMe Problem

After running the 3.0.2 update I tested the app and all was well - or so I thought!
I don't use MobileMe much and decided to test the claim that it "resolves some issues related to publishing sites to MobileMe". Well, of course, publishing to MobileMe wouldn't work.
I resolved this by quitting, deleting the plist - Home Folder/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iWeb.plist. - relaunching and resetting the preferences. I also logged out and back in to MobileMe for good measure.
I never had any problem with uploading to MobileMe before this update. I wasn't even going to bother installing it because I never use the blog or podcast. I only installed it because I saw that another user had problems with iWeb not launching properly after running the update and thought I would see if I could replicate it.
Maybe one day we will get an iWeb update that actually works as advertised and contains something useful?

After I went through the steps mentioned above the published site had a few items missing in the header.
I published to a local folder to test it and this was OK. Then I re uploaded to MobileMe and this version worked.
I only use MobileMe for test sites so this glitch is not a disaster to me.
It would be worth while creating a small test site to troubleshoot this issue rather than using your main site.
I don't use the blog or podcast so I have no idea if there are any problems in that area.

  • IWeb update out

With other updates there is now an iWeb update available from Apple.
This update addresses issues when publishing to an FTP server and other minor issues.
If they are only 'minor issues' then iWeb will still be defective.
Anyone has the courage to install this update? Let us know.

Well, I was stupid enough to believe that this update would be an improvement and went ahead and installed the update. It isn't an improvement, it makes things worse. Apparently the result is what is described in this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1955682&tstart=0
I suppose the posters had already installed the update.
Each time you add something to one site all other sites turn red. When you republish one of those other sites, the previous one you just republished turns red again.
    This is outrageous.
I would suggest to wait with installing today's iLife update.
P.S.: it seems that a lot of people are experiencing this same thing without having installed the updates yet. So is Apple interfering now from their servers straight onto your desktop?
Anyone with suggestions how to get back to the previous situation? Would it suffice to go back to the previous version of iWeb and replace the domain.site with Time Machine? It seems that even this may not resolve this new issue.
Roddy, Old Toad, Tom, what's your take on this? I am flabbergasted.

  • Iweb update

has anyone updated without any problems?  I'm a bit hesitant on this one
Message was edited by: Ed Gonzales2

You only need to backup the iWeb '06 application in case you may want to revert to it or use it to maintain old websites. I do this and run it from an external drive.
    iWeb requires three items...
The iWeb application in the Applications Folder.
The domain file in Home Folder/Library/Application Support/iWeb.
The com.apple.iWeb.plist file which is located in Home Folder/Library/Preferences.
When you install iWeb '08, the application and the preference file will be dealt with by the installation process and the domain.sites file will be converted to a domain.sites2 file when you first launch iWeb - if that is your choice.
As soon as iWeb has converted you domain file, make a backup of this too!
Some people have experienced the domain.sites2 file "disappearing" after installing the V 2.0.2 update.
A spotlight search will usually "discover" it.
If you have backups this will not be a problem.

  • IWeb Update Keeps Crashing OS

Hello there. I just got a MacBook Pro. I got an alert I should download an iWeb Update. So I tried -- twice. My screen got dark (like a Windowshade being drawn, from the top to the bottom of the screen, progressively), and I got a message that I had to restart; when I did, I got a message that the OS had to been interrupted (or something along those lines). Anyway, I've been using a PowerBook for 5 years and never had this happen. Is this something with the new Intel processor or with iWeb or what?
Any help would be much appreciated.

    Welcome to the discussions, Murdoch.
The first thing that it's good to know is if your iWeb application is in your Applications folder. Usually the errors aren't this severe but it's generally a good place to start. Otherwise, you haven't noticed anything peculiar about your system prior to the install?

  • IWeb Update and publishing errors

I have just installed the latest iWeb update and now I have a chronic publishing error of which I can not seem to fix? The error message states:
*+An error occurred while publishing file “/Web/Sites/Sites.rss”. Try publishing again later.+*
Any suggestions would be appreciated. I have rebooted; reinstalled the updates; download "all to .Mac" and even "downloaded all to folder"...it is when I try publishing directly or via "all to .Mac" that I receive this frustrating error.

I too am having htis problem. The solution suggested can't be done for me as there is no 'Web' folder on my iDisk. Maybe this is because I set up my account a while ago, before iWeb was introduced. Maybe I need to get in touch with Apple to get them to create a Web folder for me. (I tried myself, but don't have privileges.

  • Can my iWeb '08 site be fixed,or do I need to just wait for an iWeb update?

Ever since my "upgrade" to iWeb '08, the text in my webpages does not appear. I haven't changed any fonts or colors. I have had to put my website back to it's iWeb '06 version.
Cyclosaurus mentioned that my "text box elements has attribute style.visibility set to hidden" and that I might be able to correct it if I were javascript saavy, I should be able to turn visibility attribute to visible with a few lines of javascript.
How do I do this? Does anyone know any quick javascript that I could cut-and-paste, maybe within an iWeb HTML Widget, that could counteract the "attribute style.visibility set to hidden"? Perhaps I can do this until Apple fixes this Bug/Glitch in iWeb '08.
Can my iWeb '08 site be fixed,or do I need to just wait for an iWeb update? Please help.
    Thanks.

  • How would install iWeb on my mac pro.

I'd like to install iWeb on my mac pro. When I download the install, it tells me I can't install because i don't have a version. I know I don't have iweb on my mac. I want to know if and how can i install iweb on my mac pro. I'm running os 10.7.5. thanks

If iDVD was not preinstalled on your Mac you'll have to obtain it by purchasing a copy of the iLife 09 disk from a 3rd party retailier like Amazon.com: ilife 09: Software or eBay.com.  Why, because iDVD (and iWeb) was discontinued by Apple over a year ago.
Why iLife 09 instead of 11?
If you have to purchase an iLife disc in order to obtain the iDVD application remember that the iLife 11 disc only provides  themes from iDVD 5-7.  The Software Update no longer installs the earlier themes when starting from the iLIfe 11 disk nor do any of the iDVD 7 updaters available from the Apple Downloads website contain them.
Currently the only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:
    OT
This shows the iDVD contents in the iLife 09 disc via Pacifist:
You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.
Export the slideshow out of iPhoto as a QT movie file via the Export button in the lower toolbar.  Select Size = Medium or Large.
Open iDVD, select a theme and drag the exported QT movie file into the open iDVD window being careful to avoid any drop zones.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • Can't update my website after last iweb update

Okay, since I installed the last iWeb update, I have not been able to udate my website. It was working prior to the update. Now when I make changes to my pages in iWeb and publish it, the website pages are not updated when I visit. Anyone experiencing this? I've looked everywhere to figure out the problem and I am stumped.

I have the same problem since updating to iWeb 2.04. I can't publish to a folder on my computer either. I've tried all kinds of troubleshooting steps: reinstalling iWeb, trashing caches and preferences, System Archive and Install, permissions repair, you name it. This has really shaken my confidence in Mobile Me as a reliable place host a website. Because iWeb won't let me publish to a folder as well as Mobile Me I can't even update the existing site files on my hard drive and use an FTP application to move them to another host site.
Does anyone know what the folder configuration in MobileMe is supposed to look like? I mine, there is a folder for "sites" with nothing in it. There is an iWeb folder with a sites folder in it too. There are files in there but I can't update them. Another strange thing is though I have two sites only some of the files from the second site show in Mobile Me.
I'm sure Apple is trying to fix these problems but I don't think they even know what the problem is yet. Meanwhile, we have to spend valuable time on this thing, and we're stuck because we use iWeb instead of a more main stream web page creation package.
I suppose there is a lesson in there for anyone who relies on their web site for their career and income.
