Installing J2SE v1.4.2_05 JRE "error reading setup initializing

I have a customer who just updated their OS on their computer from Windows 98 to XP and now they are trying to download the J2SE v1.4.2_05 JRE version of Java. In the installing process it gives them this error: "error reading setup initializing" Any suggestions as to what is going on? And how to fix it? Thanks!

On windows there are two available installers.
Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language (j2re-1_4_2_05-windows-i586-p.exe, 14.91 MB), and the online installer: Windows Installation, Multi-language (j2re-1_4_2_05-<font face="tahoma,verdana,sans-serif" size="1" color="#000">windows</font>-i586-p-iftw.exe, 1.35 MB) .
In some situations, it may be necessary to use the first (larger) one, which (Ibelieve) includes the MSI installer., which usually will already be on an XP machine, but may not be ion an upgraded Win98 machine ?
(just a guess)

  • Installing JRE 1.4.2_04 error: Error reading setup initialization file

I'm getting the following error when trying to install the Java 2 Runtime Environment.
Diaglog box containing message: Error reading setup initialization file.
I get this error on any of the installers for Java 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition 1.4.2_0x; Windows Platform; Windows Offline Installation and Windows Installation.
I do not get this error with the installer for Java 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition 1.4.2.
According to the InstallShield web site, this error is caused by an invalid setting for the MSI Engine Location property in the release. See Q105447 on the InstallShield web site Knowledge Base.

I doubt that the root cause is the modification of the file because of the following:
    - I have a machine (XP) on which I downloaded j2sdk-1_4_2_09-windows-i586-p.exe and was able to run the install without issue.
    - I then mounted a drive on a windows2003 machine and copied the same file to it, the file size was exactly the same. When I ran the install, I got the error "Error reading setup initialization file" and the button with no text.
    - I searched through google and found this thread. I used pkzip to package the file and on the original platform, copied it to the 2003 machine and unzipped it. Once again, the same error showed up.
The explanation for the error provided in this thread is not plausible because:
    - there are no firewalls/proxy in play in a file share
    - the same thing happens when the install is transferred through a zip. Something would need to alter the zipped file in transit without corrupting the zip itself for this explanation to be valid. This is simply not plausible.
There is clearly something going on that has yet to be explained. An explanation of the problem and (even better) a workaround would be welcome.

  • Installing J2SE 1.4.2_05 on Windows 2000

    Hi all,
I have been trying to install J2SE 1.4.2_05 on Windows 2000, ( the program for installing the same had been downloaded from java.sun.com site) the size of the file which i downloaded was of 356Kb.
When i tried to install the same i got an error saying Error 1606 :could not access network location http://java.sun.com/webapps/download/getfile/1.4.2_05-b04/windows-i586/sd142000.cab . While on the same network when i tried to install on some other machine it didnt gave me any error, the installation went on wery smoothly.
Any suggestions or ideas regarding the same are highly appreciated.
    Thanks In Advance.

It might have been the network. Why don't you download the complete thing and install instead of that remote installer?

I had this problem as well. I solved it by using an old Palm Desktop download instead of the one that Palm is providing now. My old copy was provided as a zip archive and the single file in the archive was named simply setup.exe. I guess the only difference between my old file and the file that Palm provides now has something to do with the installation software (it may be InstallShield; I don't remember for sure). In any case, if you are having this problem you might be able to find a usable file out there somewhere.

  • Error reading setup initialization file

I am trying to download and install
    J2SE v 1.4.2_04 SDK and
    J2SE v 1.4.2_04 JRE
on a Windows XP platform SP1. The machine is a dual XEON 3.0 G machine with 1G of memory.
I downloaded the software and saved it to my desktop. When I double clicked on either application I get a dialog box with the following message...
"Error reading setup initialization file"...This message appears in a dialog box with no header and no lettering in the button to dismiss the dialog box.
I tried looking through the forums and contacting SUN without any success....Can someone help me?

    Update to previous post
I found the source of the error. Either the firewall server or proxy server that our site is using had altered the file. Both servers do some type of 'content' filtering for viruses, etc. To confirm this, I downloaded the file while at another site and then compared the two files. There was differences between the two files. The alteration wasn't enought to completely break the executable, but enough so that InstallShield couldn't run properly.

    Hi Tushar Nathwani,
"Error Reading setup Initialization file" implies the setup file is corrupted. You have to find a working copy of it.
There is no other way around.

  • I installed Itunes on my Vista, but error reads that there was no Apple Application Support installed and Itunes needs this in order to run

    I need to back up my iphone 5s on my old PC running Windows Vista SP2. After installing the proper iTunes that would run on Vista, I get an error as follows;
"Apple Application Support was not found. Apple Application Support is required to run iTunes. Please uninstall iTunes and install iTunes again. Error 2 (Windows error 2)"
I will appreciate any help. Thanks

With the Error 2, let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR suitable for your PC (there's a 32-bit Windows version and a 64-bit Windows version):
    http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you? If so, see if iTunes will launch without the error now.
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • HT1926 Have new generation 6 nano.  Was able to install version 8 of itunes but error reads that this version with Vista needs newer version.  Have tried to install 10.1 but it installs only part way then installs itself part way through.  Help.

Has anyone had problems downloading itunes 10.1 with the generation 6 nano?  I have
Windows Vista on my computer.  Was able to install version 8.1 but nano needs newest version. Help anyone???

The solution Lijoesat posted above worked for me!
First I found the private/var/folders/ (and then lots of gibberish folders) and singled out two garageband files and deleted them. This did not work.
I then deleted everything which may or may not be a good thing, I am an idiot, I have no idea if these are extremely important files or not!
I tried to empty the trash bin after but many files was locked and Garageband would still not install.
I did a restart of the computer, emptied the bin successfully and tried to install Garageband again and it worked fine!
The inserted picture show some of the folder structure, I deleted everything after private/var/folders/

  • Error while installing J2SE 5.0 update 6

i got the following error msg while installing J2SE 5.0 update 6
Error 1722. There is a problem with this windows installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected . contact your support personnel or package vendor.

    And from the Installation Notes:
Choosing an installation path containing characters that are not part of the system code page - On Windows 2000, XP, and 2003, it is possible to name directories using characters that are not part of the system locale's code page. If such a directory is part of the installation path, then error 1722 occurs, and installation is not completed.
To prevent this problem, make sure that the user and system locales are identical, and that the installation path only contains characters that are part of the system locale's code page. User and system locales can be set in the Regional Options or Regional Settings control panel.

I'm using a relative path to my .pfx file for both the transportServerCredential and licenseServerCredential in the flashaccess-tenant.xml and my password has been scrambled using the Scrambler.bat.
Also, when I verify setup using http://<LicenseServer>:8080/flashaccessserver/flashaccess/license/v2 I get the message 'License server is setup correctly.'
Any ideas of why the Validator.bat can't read the configuration file?

I agree with you that if I can successfully playback content the license serve is setup successfully. Here is what I've tried and how I've set things up:
I have my license server setup (its the Protected Streaming version).
I'm using Adobe Media Server as my content/packaging server. I successfully served Vanilla PHLS sample streams to the sample Adobe Access player on iOS devices.
I have configured the Adobe Media Server to point to the license server and certificates as per the documenation and this Adobe Dev article (http://www.adobe.com/devnet/adobe-media-server/articles/content-protection-using-phds-phls .html). Since I am using a trial version of Adobe Access my .der files are the same for transport and packaging.
I am using the local key mode to remove one more variable (I have setup a remote key server as well).
I have placed a copy of the 'vod-policy.pol' policy file from the reference license server resources directory in my Adobe Media Server 'creds' directory and used the relative path '..creds/vod-policy.pol' in the httpd.conf file.
When I attempt to load the sample stream http://<mymediaserver>/hls-vod/sample2_1000kbps.f4v.m3u8 using the Adobe Access sample player on my iOS device I receive the following errors in the player:
    DRM error Major[3363] minor:[0] NSError:(null)]
From my knowledge of working with the Adobe Access Objective C library to create a PhoneGap plugin it appears that a decrypted playlist is not being returned by the Adobe Media Server. Additionally, I can find no information in the Adobe Media Server or Adobe Access logs that pertain to my setup.
I would love to have someone from Adobe speak to the problems I am having. I find the documentation to be hit and miss and most of my successful results during this proofing process have been from piecing together disparate pieces of information and trial and error. Information on using the Adobe Media Server with Adobe Access is limited to one Devnet article (above) and the help in Adobe Media Server that doesn't explain pathing to the license server or Java policy files in any detail.
    Colour me frustrated

  • Error Installing J2SE v1.4.2 on WinMe

    Hello,
While trying to install J2SE v 1.4.2 with NetBeans IDE v 3.5 Cobundle, the installation proceeds until it reaches 6%, then a DOS windows running command.com pops up for a few seconds, dissapears, and the installation progress stops. I checked the intallation log in the destination directory and I get the following message:
    "Installing J2SDK..."
    "ERROR: j2sdk installer not found"
    Can anyone help me?
    Thanks

I give up. I decided to download the NetBeans 3.5 installer. I already had the sdk installer from the cobundle, so I installed the sdk and jre, then I erased the NetBeans directory and the uninst directory created by the cobundle installer (I left jvm just in case) and then I installed NetBeans. I think everything works ok.
My advice, forget the cobundle and download separately (or if you already have the cobundle, get the sdk installer from the _uninst directory when the cobundle gets stuck and download the NetBeans installer).

The IMS installer currently hardcodes the path to a JRE that it wants to run. This JRE is the one that is included in the kit, so you <i>must</i> install the JRE that comes with it.
The only way around this is to use the embedded JRE during installation and not to set the JAVA_HOME environment variable. Check if you have it defined by issuing the command 'echo $JAVA_HOME'.
